Chapter 35- Sorrow Feelings
First, the special chapter does not count towards the chapters, so I'll fix the number problem when i update this chapter. And I also fixed that there was no "Next Time", so I guess it wouldn't matter now, unless you went back and read it. Other than that, I hope you all enjoy!
Last Time...
Fed up that Xavier stopped hanging out with him since he met Harper and Keenan, Bobby dueled Xavier. After hearing that Xavier never stopped being his friends, Bobby once again became the gang's friend.
It had been 3 weeks since Keenan's mother revived Yamato and Blake after their defeat against Nocturnal. Keenan was lying on his bed with his hands behind his back, sleeping. Suddenly, he was awoken when Trixie, Xavier and Harper came rushing in. "Keenan! Keenan!" Xavier cried.
"U-uh? Huh? W-what's going on?"
"Something terrible happened!"
"Terrible? Don't tell me: a girl turned you down? Hahaha!"
"No, it's worse than that!"
"Worse than a girl turning you down Xavier? That's hard to believe."
"Keenan, stop it! It's serious!" Harper yelled.
"Whoa…o-okay. What's wrong?"
"It's Blake….and Yamato! They collapsed!"
"They…they collapsed!? What do you mean!?"
"They were at the pier, about to duel some kids when they clutched their hearts and collapsed! We took them to the hospital!"
"Their…hearts? Oh no…" Keenan unpredictably sprinted out of his room, undoubtedly heading for the hospital. "Keenan! Wait!" Harper yelled.
"Come on, let's follow him!" Xavier said. The three friends ran after Keenan.
Deep in you (The scene opens up to Keenan Serpentine, who's waking up and heading outside)
How to find the strength inside? (Kalka appears before the walking Keenan and Keenan activates his Duel Disk)
It challenges you
Taking all that you can find(It pans to Keenan, whose losing, but a Xavier, with a silhouetted warrior, appears in front of Keenan and puts its hand on Keenan's shoulder, giving him strength)
It's alright, trust in yourself
So come on, it's because you've come this far (Then, Kalka disappears and Keenan and Xavier run forward)
It's waiting for you (A whirlwind strikes the ground in front of them, stopping them. Keenan looks behind him and sees Harper and Harpie Lady, behind her)
You must raise yourself above and touch the sky (Five shadowy figures, the Materia Organization, then appear, stopping Keenan and his friends)
The dreams we see so far (Keenan imagines dueling a silhouetted woman and smiles)
Together makes us who we are (Harper and Xavier stand behind Keenan in support)
So don't let go, you know we're almost there(It begins to rain and Keenan, dueling the Materia Organization, with Shining Werewolf in front of him, reaches for his Life Point counter, trying to give up. But another Blake appears and smiles, and points to the sky where a gigantic silhouetted machine appears and shot at the figures with its gun-like weapon)
I see you, endless gazing up to the sky, wondering why (Something causes Keenan to look up to the sky and an image of Keenan's mother smiling appears. A hand touches his shoulder and he looks back to see just a glimpse of her before she disappears)
And you feel you can't go on, but you know this isn't the end (Keenan smiles and with his friends' support, he causes the Materia Organization to disappear and the three continue to run)
So come on, it's a lie when shaking in fear(As they're running, Trixie Strike with a silhouetted monster flying with her and Will Hide with a silhouetted armored monster joins them, but the ground in front of them then rumbles and from it emerges Blue Eyes White Dragon, with Vestal, standing on top of it)
You're fooling yourself(Keenan gets knocked back, but his friends encourage him to get back up. Yamato, with Red Eyes Black Dragon, appears and begins fighting Vestal and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Keenan yells, and with Red Eyes' Black Dragon's support, Vestal and Blue-Eyes White Dragon disappears)
It is true you'll never run away from here(The seven friends continue to run and the sun comes out and they stop. Keenan draws the top card of his deck and raises it to the sky as Shining Werewolf appears and he and his friends' monsters stand behind their respective owners)
The three arrived at the hospital and found Keenan in Blake and Yamato's room. Bobby was there too. "Guys! Are you okay!?" Keenan cried.
"Y-yeah. Our…we were about to duel, but then I felt a pain in my heart," Blake explained. "Yamato…he felt it in his too."
"Your hearts…no…not now. Mom…don't take them away."
"Keenan, are you okay?" Trixie asked.
"…Yamato…Blake…remember when you died after losing to Nocturnal and you were suddenly revived? The reason you were…was because that spirit…my mom, she brought you two back."
"Your mom…but…isn't she…" Yamato said.
"Yeah…but she helped you two. But she said that…" Keenan started to tear, but continued on. "She said that the hearts she gave you are only temporary. In 1 month, you two…will die."
"Die!?" Everyone gasped out.
"Yeah. I'm…so sorry you guys. I couldn't protect you!" Not able to keep the tears in any longer, Keenan let them flow out and he rushed out of the room.
"Keenan! Wait!" Xavier yelled before running after him. Bobby followed. "I'm going too!" Trixie said. But Harper stopped her and asked if she could talk with her. After giving Blake and Yamato word, the two girls headed out front of the hospital.
"Look, Trixie. I know what I-"
"Save it Harper. I don't care what you have to say. You hurt all of us!"
"I know, but…"
"Hey. Am I…interrupting anything?" A voice asked. The girls turned around and saw Rex standing there. Knowing who Rex and what Rex really is, Harper gasped, about to say something, but Rex stopped her. "Harper, were you going to say something? I'm not sure that's a good idea. But anyways, should I leave?"
"Yeah, you should, before I make you."
"Stop it Harper!" Trixie yelled. "Stop being mean to my friends! You're angry that I trust Rex more than you! What, you didn't get enough fun hurting Keenan and us?"
"No, it's-" but suddenly, the two girls were struck; by Rex, using his power to transform his arm into a scythe. The girls let out a soft cry and collapsed, to which Rex rolled his eyes. "I was so getting tired of waiting." Rex then summoned a portal and disappeared into it with the girls.
For minutes and minutes, Bobby and Xavier looked everywhere for Keenan, until they found him at the pier, with his feet dangling over the edge. The two sat next to him. "You okay?" Xavier asked. Keenan was still crying. "No. How am I even the Chosen One? I couldn't save anyone. I let Harper get taken away, Toby die, and Yamato and Blake get hurt. And now they're going to die. I'm not fit to be the Chosen One!"
"That's not true! Look, we got Harper back, Toby is safe and we'll find a way to save Yamato and Blake! I promise! Look, we go way back yo and I know you can do this!" Keenan looked to Xavier and the trails the tears left behind could be seen. "Look bro. We're in this together! You have friends who will back you up!" After seconds of thinking and looking at the water, Keenan wiped away the trails of tears from his face and smiled. "You know what? You're right Xavier. I have friends who would die for me; and I'd do the same for you all. Thanks buddy!"
"Come on, let's head back." The three friends headed back to Yamato and Blake, but when they arrived, they saw Trixie and Harper gone. "Hey, where are Trixie and Harper? Did they leave?" Keenan asked.
"Harper wanted to talk to Trixie and they went outside. You three didn't see them?" Yamato asked.
"No. Hmm…they'll be back."
"Okay, how are my patients?" The doctor asked as he walked in the room. The doctor did a check-up on the two and gave them a sign of news; bad news. "Well…there's a problem."
"Problem?"
"Yes. Their hearts. They're very weak. I am sorry to say but…they need heart transplants. If they don't get the transplants in about a week's time…they'll…die."
"Die?! They can't!"
"I'm sorry. That is the only way."
"Doc, how long would it take to find a donor?"
"It'd take months to get find a donor; let alone two. I am…so sorry, but there's nothing…we can do."
"So you'll just let them die!"
"It's ok-ugh….ughhh!" Yamato started.
"Yamato!" Yamato coughed and into his hand spilled blood.
"Keenan! We need to hurry!" Xavier said.
"I know! My mother…she said…whoever took their hearts needed to be defeated. But…that's Nocturnal. No one can beat him."
"Someone has to be able to. We just haven't found him or her."
"Well, if you do plan on saving your friends, you must hurry. They're running out of time." The doctor said before walking out of the room.
"Right. Huh, Harper and Trixie still aren't back."
"Come on, they still should be outside." Xavier said. Keenan, Xavier and Bobby headed outside to retrieve the girls, but they only found out that they were not there.
"Huh, they're not here." Bobby said.
"Maybe Harper took Trixie somewhere private to talk, to make up."
"Make up? What do you mean?" Bobby asked. Keenan looked all around, but quickly saw a piece of paper on the ground in front of him. He picked it up and read it, only to let out a gasp a few seconds later.
"What's wrong Keenan!?"
"Take a look!" Keenan handed Xavier the note and read it. Xavier let out a gasp too. "If you want to see Harper and Trixie again; meet me in front of the Heartland Pier in 1 hour. Oh no! It's signed by Vince!" Keenan snatched the paper and read it again to confirm it. He then crumpled the note and threw it on the ground along with a roar. "Vince!"
"Come on; let's go tell Blake and Yamato!" The three friends headed back to tell their friends about what just happened.
At the Materia Organization base, Rex appeared to Vince, as per his orders. Though, he seemed to have that look of curiousness. "Sir, you called?"
"Yes, I want to know what you did with Harper and Trixie?"
"Y-you…you know?"
"Yes…" As on cue, Vestal emerged from the shadows, with a smile on his face. That made Rex frown. "You told him?"
"It doesn't matter," Vince interrupted. "What did you do with them?"
"Well sir, as per your request, I captured them so that Keenan would come to rescue them. Then I can tell him who I really am, through your orders."
"Sir, we're going to tell them?" Vestal asked, actually shocked and not knowing what the plan was. Vince nodded to confirm. "With that knowledge out, Keenan will break. Get ready Rex. I expect Keenan to duel you, out of anger."
"Sir." Rex bowed and took his leave.
"Vestal, how is the search for the one with the Spellcasters coming?"
"Well…sir, we have not found him. But, do not worry. Once we do, he will join us."
"You better hope so. Continue searching. Take Kalka with you."
"Sir." Like Rex, Vestal bowed and took his leave. Vince then crossed his legs and took a sigh. "I'm tired of losing to Keenan. Those two better not fail me."
"Sir, if I may," Jimmy asked as he walked in. "Why do I not just defeat Keenan and his friends and get this over with?"
"Because, we need the Chosen One alive. And if his friends are in danger, Keenan can become trouble. We will wait a little longer."
"Understood. Who is attending this inevitable duel between Rex and the Chosen One?"
"Myself and you."
"Really? How about Nocturnal?"
"No. His cravings are starting to be troublesome. Anymore exposure and there will be a problem."
"Hmmm…just what is Nocturnal sir? And what are his intentions in the organization?" Instead of answering, Vince just shooed Jimmy away. Jimmy just smiled, bowed and walked away.
After being captured, Harper awoke and found herself in a large crate, unable to find out her location. She saw Trixie beside her and tried to wake her. "Trixie! Trixie! Wake up! Are you okay?"
"Uh…wha…what's going on? Where…where am I? Ugh-get off me!"
"Trixie, why don't you trust me?"
"Where are we? We need to get out of here."
"But Trixie-"
"Just shut-up and help me find a way out!"
"Can we talk?"
"Shhh…"
"But-"
"No, shh! I hear something. It's…water?" The two quieted to hear better. The two noticed that they were hearing water wave back and forth, like waved splashing against the land.
"Are we on the water? That can't be; we're not moving. I think we're near the pier."
"Please Trixie, just listen!"
"What? Why do I have to listen to a traitor like you!?"
"I said I was sorry."
"Well, sorry isn't going to do anything. You can say sorry a billion times and I will NEVER forgive you. You're supposed to be Keenan and Xavier's friend, but you put not only them through crap, but you put me through it too! And why? Just because you were angry!? What an idiot!"
"You don't understand. I didn't have anyone. The only person I had was taken from me. I just…lost it then. I thought Keenan and Xavier were to blame; I thought it was their fault I was alone. You don't understand how it felt to have nobody."
"You had Keenan and Xavier…until you pushed them away. Keenan told me he thought it was his fault you were with those Materia jerks. But it was only yours. I don't trust people easily and everything you did; hurt me, called me names, hurt Keenan and Xavier, made Keenan cry; there is nothing you can do to make me trust you. Ugh…I don't even know why I'm talking to you. I'll just find my own way out of this crate."
"Trixie…I'm sorry." Suddenly, the two girls heard footsteps, followed by the crate opening. The person who opened it, Harper gasped at. "Hey! You're that guy, Jimmy." Without speaking, Jimmy grabbed the two girls and took them away.
"Hey Keenan. You sure you want to do this? Maybe it's a trap." Xavier suggested as he, Bobby and Keenan were walking to the pier.
"I don't care. They have Harper and Trixie and they're not going to get away with it!"
"I understand. Hey, Bobby, maybe you should head home. This might get very dangerous."
"No way! Hey, I might be out of the loop, but I think I can help."
"No, he's right," Keenan said with the utmost seriousness. "You need to go home Bobby. I don't want someone else to get hurt."
"But…okay. I understand. Later." Bobby motioned goodbye and took off. The two friends then made their way to the pier, where, to their fears, Vince and Jimmy were there; with the latter holding the girls hostage.
"Let them go Vince! Now!" Keenan ordered. But Vince just smiled. "Not yet. If you recall, I said a while back that we had a surprise for you."
"Just let them go! Take me!"
"Keenan! No!" Harper pleaded.
"Unfortunately, we are not here to make a trade. Keenan, I bet you are almost broken down; why, with your two friends in the hospital and knowing Harper here hurt you. But you see, there's something else; maybe the final thing to bring you down."
"Are you trying to make me angry? Because it's working."
"What a dirty mouth for such a kid." Jimmy said.
"That's quite alright Jimmy. I believe we will be victorious today."
"I'm warning you Vince. If you hurt my friends-"
"Then what?" Jimmy asked. But the argument quickly stopped due to Vince's interruption. Though, before even Vince could say anything, someone beat him to it. "What's going on here?" Emerging from hiding, though Keenan and his friends did not know he was hiding, was Rex, to which Keenan smiled. "Rex! I'm so glad you're here! Vince has Harper and Trixie!"
"Really now? That's…honestly good."
"What? Rex, what are you talking about?!"
"Haha! You know I'm kidding bro."
"That wasn't cool man! Our friends are in trouble!" Keenan said with a tone of anger.
"Well, excuse me. Since we're all being serious here…" Rex conjured a Duel Disk, being the first thing to make Keenan widen his eyes. Rex noticed and smiled. "What's wrong Keenan?"
"That…how you made that Duel Disk appear…only…"
"Only the Materia Organization can do that? Well…I guess the secret is out. To be honest, I…was really working with the Materia Organization the whole time." Xavier and Trixie gasped in shock, but it was Keenan who gasped in pure shock and whose eyes widened almost superhuman-like. As if someone reached down in Keenan's mouth and ripped out his Voice Box, he was completely speechless. He could not let out a single sound.
"Come on, say something Keenan. Or…are you too shocked?"
"…I…Rex…you…you're lying. Hahaha…you're lying, right?"
"I could be…but then how you explain where I was when I wasn't with you idiot?"
"I…you…you were with your mom. right? Right?!."
"….Shut-up. Don't talk about her. Besides, I was at the Materia Organization Base. Face it, you just lost another 'friend'." In just pure shock and utter (I don't know another word), Keenan fell to his knees.
"Oh, are you alright!?" Rex asked in a faux-caring tone. Though, still in shock, Keenan didn't respond. Vince smiled. "Well, well. Like I thought, Keenan is distraught. Maybe we should keep your two friends here, just to finally break you down." To everyone's surprise, Keenan stood up, though his head and arms were left hanging.
"Oh, what's happening now?"
"Xavier…give me your Duel Disk."
"What? Why?"
"…Just give me your Duel Disk."
"Oh, don't tell me you're going to duel him."
"Rex, why?"
"Why? Come on; that question is so cliché."
"Answer it!"
"Vince wanted you to trust me; to see if you were the Chosen One. It was fun to pretend to be your friend. Though, I grew tired of it."
"I trusted you!"
"So?"
"How could you do that to me!? I trusted you! I thought you were my friend!"
"Yeah, you 'thought'. It was all a joke. I was never your friend. And honestly, you're stupid for falling for it."
"All this time, I thought we had someone else to help us defeat the Materia Organization, but…now…I'll make you pay!"
"Make me pay?"
"I trusted you!" Keenan tried to rush towards Rex for a hit, but Xavier held him back. "L-let me go Xavier!"
"Keenan, stop. Duel him, don't fight him!"
"Grrr…Rex, I challenge you to a duel!" Having heard Keenan say that was the whole reason everyone was there and that made Rex instantly smiled. "You serious? That's a bad move. You don't know how strong I really am."
"I saw your duel with Bobby. I know you're strong."
"Bobby was a weakling. I'm much stronger than that. But I guess you're about to see a first-hand look at how strong I really am, huh?"
"I thought you were my friend Rex. You used me and now I'm going to make you regret it!" Keenan activated his Duel Disk and donned his Duel Gazer. Rex followed Keenan's steps and the spectators donned their own gazers and Trixie donned her tattoo. The Augmented Reality was activated. "Augmented Reality Vision Link Established."
"DUEL!" The two former friends yelled.
Rex: 4000
Keenan: 4000
Vince smiled. "Let's see how Rex fairs against Keenan. He has yet to duel him."
"The better duelist goes first," Rex said before he drew a card. He looked at it and smiled. "First, even though we don't have our Dark Gauntlets, I can still conjure the Shadow Province." Rex raised his arm and revealed his Shadow Mark. It glowed and the Shadow Province appeared. "Now, this duel will be real. Let's start, shall we? I set 1 monster and end my turn." An unknown monster appeared.
"Rex, you should have never betrayed me. I thought we were together on defeating the Materia Organization!"
"Whatever. You just got fooled." Keenan looked at the card he drew; Grey Condor. He looked at the rest of his hand, which contained Support Squirrel, Jewel Axe, Star Boost, Garnet Jack and Attack Zapper.
"I'll defeat each one of my enemies! I Normal Summon Grey Condor in Attack Position. When my buddy is summoned, I can Special Summon another monster from my hand. Attack Zapper, appear!" Grey Condor appeared and it let out a shriek that summoned a small armored bee with two antennas and a bee stinger. (ATK: 800-T) (ATK: 500)
"Before I Synchro Summon, I activate Star Boost. With this, Synchro Summon is possible; since it increases Grey Condor's level by 2. Since I have a level 5 and level 2 monster on the field, I Tuner Grey Condor with Attack Zapper to Synchro Summon Ground Striker." Grey Condor turned into 3 green rings. The rings then passed through Attack Zapper, who in turn transformed into 2 stars. A beam of light then enveloped Attack Zapper, passing through the rings, and Ground Striker appeared. (ATK: 2700)
Star Boost
Normal Spell
Increase the level of a monster you control by 2.
"Ground Striker, attack that face-down monster!" Ground Striker ran up to the unknown monster and destroyed it. It was revealed to be Constellar Acubens.
"I end my turn. Rex, don't you feel sad or guilty or anything?"
"I did what I was told to do. You trust people too easily. How you're the Chosen One is beyond me."
"I trusted you Rex and you just played with my trust."
"Oh come on, this isn't group time. I'm not here to hear your story."
"Fine, then I'll just defeat you. Go."
"Tsk, tsk. Suit yourself. To be honest; I always wanted to duel you Keenan. I wanted to see your power for myself. Kalka was too weak to do anything right. So now, I'm here to fix it."
"Rex, you don't understand. My friends, my real friends, will always have my back. And together, we'll defeat you! All of you!"
"Ha! Just keep telling yourself that fool! This duel will end soon. I draw!" Rex drew a card and smiled. "I summon Constellar Aldebaran in Attack Position." The bulky silver armored warrior with bull horns, carrying an energy ring appeared. (ATK: 1300)
"When this creature is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon Constellar Leonis in Attack Position." The silver armored beast with blue spikes on its body with blue hair, armed with an energy sword and wearing a silver cape appeared. (ATK: 1000)
"But wait, there's more: Leonis lets me Normal Summon once more. Constellar Algiedi, appear from the skies!" The slim, silver armored woman wearing a blue cape and carrying a staff with a crystal in the middle appeared. (ATK: 1600)
"But here's the funny part Keenan; I'm still not done! Hahaha! Algiedi allows me to Special Summon another monster from my hand. Summon, Constellar Kaus!" The white, mechanical horseman carrying a golden bow appeared. (ATK: 1800)(Rex's Hand: 2)
"Oh man! He just summoned 4 monsters in one turn!?" Xavier cried out.
"Wow….he's super strong!" Trixie said.
"And Keenan, don't think I'm even close to being finished. I activate Star Changer, increasing Algiedi's level by 1. Now that it's a level 5, I activate a second Star Changer, increasing Kaus' level by 1 too, making it a level 5 also. Next, I Overlay my two level 3 monsters and my two level 5 monsters to Xyz Summon Constellar Hyades and Constellar Pleiades!" First, a portal appeared and the two level 3 monsters disappeared into it and Hyades appeared. Then another portal appeared and the level 5 monsters disappeared into it and Pleiades appeared. (ATK: 1900)(OLU: 2) (ATK: 2500)(OLU: 2)(Rex's Hand: 0)
Keenan stepped back in surprise. "He just summoned 2 Xyz monsters in one turn!" He said to himself. Rex smiled. "Tell me Keenan! Are you scared? Have you finally figured out who you all are dealing with?"
Keenan looked at his hand before looking back at the two opposing Xyz monsters. Then he smiled. "Rex, you don't scare me! Honestly, I still think something is wrong, like you belong with us. I guess maybe because I truly thought you were my friend. But…" Keenan then frowned. "You're my enemy now; and I have to take you down."
"Don't tell me you expect to try to talk some sense into me? I'm not one of your stupid friends. It won't work."
"Don't call my friends stupid. And I'll defeat you Rex; I'll defeat all of you!"
"Then...bring. it. On."
Author's Note: 2:52 am is the time I finished this chapter, excluding the following words and the editing. I should really go to bed. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy it. Looks like things are getting more intense; could we be reaching the end of the first season? I hope it was good and please R&R.
Keenan continues his duel with Rex, still shocked that Rex was really working against him. And Rex even pushes Keenan in a corner. Next Time: Sorrow Feelings Part 2
