I know it's been a while but I was hit by a pretty important writer's block, but it's now gone and my muse is giving me plenty ideas. All mistakes are mine, I haven't had the time to re read the whole chapter, too tired with work.
But good news the next chapter is already half written ^^
Chapter 36
Rory walked past a car accident involving two cars on her way to work. The whole place was packed with police officers, firemen and paramedics. She paid no attention to the whole scene and kept on walking, she had to get to work soon and attend the meeting with the rest of staff and of course their new boss, Logan.
When she got to her office she found a bunch of roses on top of her desk along with a card in a little envelopp. She put her bag along with her gloves in a drawer before grabbing the card.
I love you no matter the size of your tummy, you remain the most amazing and beautiful woman I've ever met and loved. Never forget that you're growing our child.
MAC
Rory smiled as she read the card, Logan really is a big romantic at heart although he would deny it if asked about the authenticity of the card.
"Hey Leigh, beautiful flowers, who are they from?" a co-worker said from her office doorway.
"My fiancé, he's the one who sent those flowers." She answered smiling. "How are you John?"
"Fine, I didn't know you were engaged."
"I'm and my stomach is a proof of that. I can't wear my engagement ring because my fingers are swollen because of the pregnancy." She said laughing. He had been shocked to learn about her pregnancy, she knew he carried some kind of torch for her but she had made it clear she was not interested. "I sometimes think the baby wants to show me he's better and smarter than me by outsmarting me especially when I'm tired."
"I don't know about outsmarting you, he's like a bunch of cells."
"At this stage he's more than a bunch of cells, he kicks me, moves around. He's just like his father, he loves to annoy me." She said laughing. "He especially loves jumping on my bladder at night every two hours and then doesn't stop until morning so that I can't sleep."
"Not funny."
"Nope but if his mom can't get any sleep then the same goes for his father. We're now ready for the sleepless nights, midnight feedings and sleep deprivation."
"Isn't it a bit too early for sleep deprivation?"
"Yeah, but at least we managed to plan our wedding faster and shop online for the nursery."
"Oh you're getting married soon?" John asked, sadness could be heard in his question. Rory brushed off his sadness, tired of his crush on her. She had made it clear over and over that she was not interested, if that made her a heartless woman for disregarding his feelings, then so be it.
"Yeah, next week, it'll be a small wedding with our close friends and family."
"I thought women all want to have huge weddings to show off or some thing like that."
"Nope, my fiancé and I are not into huge events like that much to my grandmothers' chagrin who always thought they'd get to organize a huge wedding for their only grandchild."
"You're getting married in a few days and I'm not even invited?" one of the Rory's coworkers said as she walked towards the twosome, having heard the whole conversation from her desk. Rory could not help but roll her eyes, as if she would ever send an invitation to the woman who had dissed Logan just a few days ago. "How can you not have a huge wedding, did you send your family bankrupt by going to Yale?" she asked laughing, as if she had just said the funniest joke ever.
"I didn't ruin my family, I just don't like being the center of attention." Rory explained, having stopped herself before she could add unlike you. "We should probably get ready for the meeting, I need to drop my article on the People of New York Internet fundraising and interview."
"How did you manage to score an interview with the guy? He doesn't usually accept interview requests from the press."
"I have my ways, may I go now or do you want to talk about my private life a bit more?" Rory asked sarcastically as she took the file containing her work. She walked towards her editor's office, leaving her coworker gossiping about her private life since there is nothing better to do. She quickly walked towards her editor's office, knocking twice on the door before walking in. Rory found him staring at his computer screen, he did not even lift his head to acknowledge her presence, he just asked her how she was doing while staring at his screen and typing every few seconds.
"What can I do for you dear?" he asked her, finally looking at her.
"I'm here to submit my work for next week since I'll be out of the office for a few days."
"Yeah, Mitchum told me about it. I guess congratulations are in order?" he said smirking.
In the beginning he had been weary about hiring her, knowing her ties with the Huntzberger and being the heiress of two powerful society families. Keith had voiced his concerns about her desire to work, especially when she has millions in the bank and is about to marry the heir of a news empire. Rory fought to make it known how serious she took the job, bringing several of her articles along with glowing recommendations from her teachers and her bosses when interning for them. What really convinced Keith to hire her was her desire to hide her family background and her ties with the Huntzberger. She had explained how she wanted her work to be recognized more than her last name or the people she associated with.
« Yes, Logan and I are having a small wedding surrounded by our family and close friends. It'll be a small affair, nothing too big or worth mentioning in mile long articles. »
« Somehow I doubt it, there'll be mile long articles about it even in Huntzberger owned papers. I'm not into gossip news unlike my wife but she told me your wedding is one of the most anticipated wedding of the year. Three of the most important society's families united by mariage, a dream come true for many. »
« That's what I want to avoid, it's a marriage not a business deal despite what many people think. Logan and I got together on our own and we decided to get married because we're in love. People should put down their gossip magazine and live instead of watching what's going on in our lives or even better pick up a good book. » Rory said with a weary smile, she could not even understand people's facination with her life. Money should not be what defines her or Logan, it should be their personnalities, who they are as people, not what they represent or are worth.
« True, you should go before they accuse us of having an affair. »
« Hate to say this but you've got nothing on my baby daddy. » Rory said laughing, she quicly left his office before he could come back with a remark. She was still laughing and mostly in a good mood when she heard someone call her name, not her fake one but Rory.
She spun her chair and stood up when she saw Honnor running towards her. Honnor threw her arms around her neck and hugged. Rory saw tears in her eyes, she pulled away and grabbed her hand to lead her to an empety conference room.
« Honor what's going on ? Why have you been crying ? » she rapidly asked her.
« It's Logan, he was in a car acc… »
« Oh my god ! »
« He's fine Rory, the accident was about two hours ago. It's nothing to be scared off, he's fine I'm just being stupid, I talked with him on the phone. He called me to ask me to come and get you before you heard about it from someone else. » Honor explained, trying to calm a crying Rory but it was useless. « I'm taking you to the hospital so you see by yourself, dad is already there with him until we get there. » Rory nodded and followed Honor outside, they rushed to the lift without even going to her desk to get her belongings.
« Leigh are you alright ? » John asked her as he approched her.
« She's fine, don't worry Mr… »
« My name is John Dwayer, I work with her Miss Huntzberger. We're a bit worried.» he explained, pointing to some of his coworker who were watching them.
« Well let me reassure you Mr Dwayer, my friend is fine, thank you for your concern. If you would excuse us, we need to get going. » Honor said dismissing John as she and Rory walked into the lift. She put her hand on Rory's arm bringing her out of her thoughts.
