Chapter 36
Valentines From Hell Part 6
Todd drove happily to the planetarium as they continued their date. He couldn't help however the occasional glance in the mirror, which caused a momentary panic from Amanda in the backseat. Kurt hadn't noticed as he had just discovered his toes and was attempting to harass Amanda with them. This discovery had made them stop at a shoe store a few moments sooner as walking into the planetarium bare foot wouldn't go over well.
"Sweetie, I know your taken aback by your…. New look, but can we focus on driving please," said Candy, "And this is coming from ME, and you know my record."
"Did I kill someone?" asked Todd quickly, that was the only possible way of beating Candy's driving ability.
"No, not yet," said Amanda, she smiled uneasily at Kurt, "Candy you stop playing with your feet please."
"Sorry," he smiled and put his arm around her, Amanda rested her head on his shoulder.
"We should be there in a few….. What ya doin, babe?" asked Todd from where Candy had begun almost examining his hand.
"It's so… different," said Candy with a shrug as she laced her fingers with his and went back to relaxing in the passenger seat, "Is that Pyro?"
"Where…. Is he with Kiki?" asked Todd in horror, "Oh god no, yo."
"That must be what Pietro's epic plan was when he burst into your room last night," said Candy, "I thought he was just being invasive as normal."
"So vait… that's the crazy girl Pietro slept with?" asked Kurt leaning forward as they slowed the car to look.
"I thought Pyro was dating Wanda," said Amanda, "That's what his facebook said."
"Whoa… Pyro has a facebook?" asked Todd, glancing back at Amanda.
"He has two," said Candy casually, "I think he just hacked her account to do that."
"I didn't know that, yo," said Todd scratching his head, as he continued driving, "He has two?"
"Yeah, on one it's more professional and then… there's Pyro's," said Amanda.
"How did you even know that?" asked Kurt in concern.
"So you're both friends with him on facebook?" asked Todd, the nodded, he and Kurt shared a look of annoyance, "He's not even friends with me."
"So…. Changing the subject, what's our date surprise?" asked Amanda happily, "Ice cream, movie…. Planetarium?"
"I'm all for leaning," said Candy with an apprehensive smile.
"Nah, nothing to be learned here," smiled Todd as he pulled into a parking stall.
A few minutes, a small argument, and a discussion with the manager later, they finally managed to sneak back into the planetarium and secure one of the constitution rooms that were currently not in use due to their being no seats because of remodeling. It was perfect, although Todd and Kurt hadn't been able to sneak in as easily and it had been Amanda and Candy who'd managed to charm a guard and climb through a window. So at this moment, the guys weren't sure how well this date was going.
"Dude, we forgot the food in the trunk," said Kurt after a moment of standing around and playing with the system.
"Teleport and go get…." Todd stopped talking for a moment.
"You hop out the vindow, this…." Kurt trailed off.
"Is someone missing their powers?" asked Amanada casually.
"No…"
"Not that much…"
"Do you want us to go get it?" asked Candy with a devious smile, Todd was feeling that he may be having a bad influence on his girlfriend lately.
"Nah, yo, we can get it, come on Bl…Kurt," said Todd as he not to nimbly slid out the second story window and into a trashcan below, "Ow…"
"Hold on, just give me…. Damn zthese shoes," said Kurt as he slid on the chair for a moment before managing to climb out the window with a crash.
"OW!"
"GET OFF ME!"
"….." Amanda and Candy stared off at the window, worried mostly, but fighting back laughter.
"Were going to get caught," said Amanda with a sigh.
"So we've established any grace they had was power related," shrugged Candy as she sat on the ground, "They seem pretty obsessed with their new looks."
"Yeah and I hate that, I thought Kurt was perfectly handsome before," said Amanda, "And I don't want to yell at him but it's kind of annoying how he keeps having me pet his face."
"I wish that was all Todd kept doing, I'm pretty sure my eyesight is damaged from all the photos he took…. I had no problem with any of our previous pictures we have," said Candy, Amanda sat next to her, "But…"
"But if they decide to not want their powers back, we have to support them," said Amanda, Candy nodded.
"Yes, because we love them," said Candy, they both stared off into silence before a huge amount of crashes didn't even phase them.
"But if we keep letting them do this stuff, they might change their attitudes," said Amanda.
"Agreed," said Candy as they watched the guys argue over who got to try climbing in first.
The two couples enjoyed the star gazing and picnic which consisted of a few smashed sandwiches, some warm drinks, and something that had once been pie but they were uncertain and Kurt couldn't remember what it was. They'd opted to separately hang out in the room for personal reasons. The date had been going well in Todd's mind, although his current make out session with Candy behind the prompter near the podium wasn't exactly working out in his favor.
"You okay?" asked Candy with a raised brow as she pulled away from their kiss.
"My jaw ith killing me," said Todd, messaging his jaw, his tongue felt tired, and his leg was falling asleep, "Hey babe could you move off me for a second."
"Exactly what you want to hear from your boyfriend on Valentines," said Candy, "… Did you hear that?"
"I didn't," came Kurt's voice from over near the speakers.
"I did," said Amanda, who was currently not over by the speakers but the door, apparently their Valentines make outs were not going well for either of them, "Someone's coming, let's go."
"Time to bail," said Todd as they headed towards the window and opened it, "Ladies."
The rest of the evening varied the same chaos, with a near trip to the ER with a slip from the window sill, a car breakdown, and a small bout of food poisoning…. Todd was glad to be back at the X-Mansion. They walked into the small hospital wing; limping, covered in grease, and irritated. McCoy sat perched at his desk with the gun being finished up, or so Todd hoped. As much as he liked his new look, it didn't make up for the spontaneous lock jaw, his lack of any agility at all, and the fact he'd felt like an idiot when he couldn't even get the hood open. He knew Kurt was under the same thing, the two mile walk had seemed like nothing at first but for someone used to teleporting everywhere, he'd grumbled the whole way. He'd also had a lovely dumpster fall and his smell had caused a shift for Kurt to be downwind from them, which Kurt had not been happy about.
"Ahk, please tell me it's done," said Kurt as he collapsed in his seat, "I'd rather wear my watch forever than walk again."
"Bit mellowdramatic, yo," said Todd, "But seriously, hit us."
"Well it's almost done, probably another twenty minutes to put it back together," said McCoy confidently.
"Give me a screwdriver," said Todd, sitting across from McCoy.
Todd walked into the house that night not feeling too bad, he felt strange having rapidly regrowing his tongue and he also had managed okay at the end of the night. Candy had told him it had been the most exciting Valentines she'd ever had and she hadn't been upset at all when she'd dropped him off, but he really had spent a great deal of the ride contemplating he and Candy's relationship after she'd asked him what they should do next year. He smiled, wondering what next Valentines would bring. He opened the door, the smell of burnt….toothpaste?... wafting from upstairs…. He didn't want to know, he really didn't. Pietro zipped in front of him looking smug.
"Don't you have like ten dates?" asked Todd with a yawn, "Yo, I had one messed up day."
"Yeah yeah, Valentines is always work. I had three dates, helped Wanda get rid of Pyro by tricking that crazy stalker of mine to hanging out with him. It was perfect we made it look like we stood them up.. long story.. then I had to fix Lance and Kitty's little issue, I need like a hundred bucks if you can swing it… and then I had to deal with your issues, but whatelse is new, always fixing problems," said Pietro in a rapid irritated sentence.
"What? I ain't given you a hundred dollars, yo," said Todd with a scoff as he went to walk by him.
"Why does everyone only hear that," sighed Pietro, "Besides, it's not for me… Where are you going?" Pietro zipped in front of him.
"I'm exhausted, you have… nevermind, I'm not gonna get into a debate," said Todd.
"First off after all the trouble I went through, you are not going to bed… besides Kitty and Lance are cleaning up toothpaste and I am not going up there, they are in a clingy mood and NOT with each other," said Pietro, "And…. he's not even listening."
"Good night, Pietro," said Todd, he opened the door and froze at the person sitting at his desk with one of his sketchbooks.
They didn't look up right away; instead light brown hair with a hint of red blocked the figures view. Todd didn't even have to see the light colored eyes or the thin face of the women sitting at his desk, he knew exactly what Pietro had been talking about. Months of searching had led nowhere, but give Pietro a few weeks and he could find the impossible. He made a mental note to give Pietro the hundred bucks for whatever or whoever he needed.
"…M..Mom?"
