I need to get this out of my head before it drives me crazy again because of the stupid plot bunnies! God I don't get why they couldn't bother me while I was on winter break, but no, they choose to attack when classes have started back up for me! -dodges as another one flies over my head- but anyways, I will do my best to survive this while typing the story!

Whispers of the Enchanter

Escape II

The evening went rather smoothly much to Heba's concern. Timaeus told him about Dartz requesting his presence for the banquet, though the Dream-Seer had no idea why. Nonetheless, he took a bath with the Emerald Knight and together, the two of them went towards the banquet hall. The moment Heba stepped in, the guests for the evening shot up from their seats and immediately surrounded him.

"How is he here?!"

"Impossible!"

"He should be in Egypt!"

"Dartz, explain yourself now!"

Heba was beyond terrified and hid himself behind Timaeus. Critias and Hermos came to stand beside their brother, the three Knights had their hands on their swords as they glared at the guests menacingly. Dartz stood up and raised his hand calmly, his eyes locking onto those of Rex as the latter signaled his Signers to be at ease.

"I can see why you are confused my friend. This is Heba, my Dream-Seer and betrothed of Timaeus. I have been informed the Enchanter looks exactly like him, perhaps that is why you confused him for your target."

"Are they twins?" Carly asked in shock.

Upon hearing the strangers mention his brother, Heba's hand tightened around Timaeus' and the latter gently stroked the back of his head several times.

"Yes, they are twins. I would have loved to reunite them here but seeing as the Enchanter has escaped, that will have be put on hold for some time. Now, be at ease and enjoy the banquet."

Dartz looked at his Knights and the trio gradually removed their hands from their swords.

Guiding his lover over to their spot at the table, Timaeus sat down and pulled Heba onto his lap. The latter was still trembling from fright, prompting the Knight to wrap his arms around Heba's waist to calm him down.

"We need to get out of here..." Heba whispered quietly.

"Critias and Hermos have prepared everything already. We'll leave tonight," Timaeus answered, putting some food onto the empty plate.

Rex couldn't believe his eyes.

The moment Heba walked into the room, he was shocked to see who he assumed to be the Enchanter. If it weren't for Dartz' explanation of his identity, he would have had his Signers kill the child right then and there.

Yet this revelation of Heba being Yugi's twin worked in his favor.

If he could somehow kidnap the Dream-Seer, he could lure the Enchanter out and capture both of them in one fell swoop. However he had a feeling it wouldn't be an easy task, not with the three knights surrounding him. Rex could practically sense the animosity rolling off the trio when his Signers surrounded them. He heard tales of the trio, how their battle prowess were unmatched on the battlefield. It wouldn't be wise to fight them without a plan of sorts.

Not to mention Dartz had the power of the Leviathan under his control, only a fool would challenge the King of Atlantis.

Quietly formulating a plan as he ate, Rex kept an eye on the Dream-Seer the entire evening.

The moment Dartz excused them for the evening, Timaeus whisked Heba away from the banquet hall before the latter could freak out even more. Critias and Hermos were beside their brother, the three walking briskly past the Dark Signers with the Dream-Seer being carried by the Emerald Knight. Once they were out of earshot from the others, the knights all converged in the shared chamber of Timaeus and Heba.

"Are you alright?" Timaeus gently lowered Heba onto the bed.

"I-I'm fine," Heba stammered, taking the goblet of water Hermos held out to him.

"Those people back in the hall...they're not alive," Critias murmured, his armor glinting in the moonlight.

"The one called Rex is alive, the others are animated bodies," the Emerald Knight corrected.

Critias rolled his eyes at his brother's comment.

"We need to leave. I...I have a feeling those people are after me," Heba said once he finished the water.

"We'll leave at midnight," Timaeus answered, removing his helmet briefly.

"I've already packed our things and snuck it aboard the boat earlier."

Timaeus went over to the door and cracked it open slightly, peering out into the deserted corridor. The lights were off for the evening, with only oil lamps on the wall illuminating the darkness. The servants must have retired already for the evening, and the guards were in the barracks no doubt. The docks would be unguarded, this would be the most opportune moment for them to flee.

"Let's go," he said to the others.

Escorting Heba between them, the knights hurried down the hall, having taken off their armor to avoid making noise that would attract attention.

-Egypt-

Yugi's condition didn't improve for quite some time despite being tended to by the best healers Atem could find. The horror and trauma he experienced at the hands of Rex and his Signers took its toll on his fragile body. All the healers could do was prescribe medicine that would help heal the scars and strengthen his body, but the rest was up to his willpower alone.

Atem sat beside his little lover, never even leaving his side for a brief moment. The affairs of the court were left to Set in the meantime, the High Priest doing what he can to keep Egypt functioning while its Pharaoh recovered from the ordeal.

The scars that marred Yugi's porcelain skin served as constant reminder of his incompetence. He couldn't even keep the one he loved safe! What kind of a Pharaoh was he?

A useless one it seems.

Yugi groaned and began crying out in his sleep, his arms flailing about in terror, searching blindly for someone to comfort him. Atem grabbed Yugi's hands and held them in his own while whispering words in his ear.

"Atem?..." amethyst orbs fluttered open.

"I'm here little one," Atem answered, pressing a kiss to Yugi's forehead.

"I'm scared..." Yugi admitted.

"Don't be. I'm here now."

Unable to remain conscious for long, the Enchanter fell back into a slumber as the Pharaoh watched on quietly.

-Atlantis-

The three Knights and Dream-Seer arrived at the docks and hurried into the boat Hermos had prepared in advanced. Heba was the first to go in, squeezing himself into the corner to give the other three access. Critias went in next, followed by Hermos, and Timaeus was about to board when he heard footsteps approaching. Drawing his sword and scanning the darkness carefully, the Emerald Knight held his guard.

"Leaving in a rush?"

Rex emerged from the shadows with his followers.

"What do you want? You have no business to stop us," Timaeus challenged.

"Oh but I do. You have something I want," Rex glanced at Heba and grinned.

Critias and Hermos jumped out of the ship and stood beside their brother.

"Heba doesn't belong to anyone," Timaeus growled angrily.

"We can do this the easy way or hard way, your choice."

The knights raised their swords in the air.

"So be it."

Rex snapped his fingers and chaos erupted.

Heba couldn't tell what happened.

Everything just flashed before his eyes.

The only thing he could remember was a shadow looming overhead, and then Timaeus cried out in pain as he fell on his knees. Critias and Hermos dragged their injured brother back towards the ship. Suddenly, three more shadows emerged from the ground and shrieked simultaneously. One resembled a hummingbird, the other a lizard, and the last one was a monkey.

"Go!" Critias shouted.

Hermos activated the ship and tried to pull out of the dock, but the three animals blocked their path.

"Damn it! I can't move!"

Timaeus coughed up purple blood as he laid on Critias' lap.

"He's been poisoned!"

Scared for his lover's life and the others, Heba raised his hands in the air and began to chant a song, one that the knights were all too familiar with.

"No! If you do that your life will shorten drastically!" Critias shouted, grabbing Heba's arms and lowering them.

"It's the only way we can get out of here!" Heba yanked his arm free and continued chanting.

Calling upon the Leviathan to aid in their escape, the waters below the ship began to churn violently. Narrowing his eyes in concentration, Heba continued chanting until the great serpent emerged from the watery depths and loomed over the Dream-Seer.

"Leviathan, help me! Defend us from those who wish us harm!"

Heeding the words of the Dream-Seer of Yggdrasil, the Leviathan roared and charged at the three animals, knocking them on their backs and clearing the way for Hermos to flee from the dock. Exhausted from the summoning, Heba fell on his bottom and panted heavily, his forehead matted with sweat.

"We need to get help or he'll die," Critias said urgently.

"Take us to Egypt. Find my brother, it's the only way we can help Timaeus!"

Critias took out a medical kit and administered a clear liquid into the wound.

"This will slow down the poison and buy us time."

Hermos sped out of the dock and dove beneath the waves.

Unable to keep his eyes open any longer, Heba allowed the darkness to consume him as they sped away from Atlantis.
