By time Olivia had finished her classes for the day Fitz was in his office grading papers. It was still early in the afternoon; she stopped by to check in on him knowing he was still upset about this morning.
"Hey, I'm going to go to the store so I can make that dinner I promised. Any requests?"
"Anything as long as it doesn't have cream of mushroom soup and potato chips." He told her with a smirk. The few times Olivia had cooked for them, they had been snowed in by an early snowstorm in September and she wanted comfort food. Which for her equated to casseroles, having the main ingredient cream of mushroom soup. Fitz wasn't bothered by it when he didn't know she could cook, now he planned on making fun of her anytime he saw her in the soup aisle.
"Ranchy chicken with broccoli it is!" She responded, it was one of her favorite meals and she made it every snow day, Fitz was sick of it already and winter hadn't really even started yet.
"Want me to duck out of here and come with?" He was still worried about her.
"Nah. I'll surprise you besides; if we are going to be able to enjoy our night those papers need to be graded. Speaking of which Cyrus sent mine back with enough red marks to make me seriously reconsider taking his class in the spring."
"I'll look at it tonight." He told her sympathetically. She was Cyrus's favorite student, he was always talking about her potential, but it meant that he was harder on her than any other student. He always gave her an A but she had to jump through flaming hoops for it.
"Thanks. Two hours?"
"Love you Livid." He told her raising his voice a bit to sound silly.
"Love you Fitzy!" He raised an eyebrow at her.
"I thought Id try it. I don't like it." She said crinkling her brows, indicating she wasn't pleased.
"Good let's not have a repeat." He told her mocking seriousness.
She made her way out of the poli-sci building and back to her car. With her key between her fingers, ready to stab someone if necessary and her eyes peeled she made it to her baby. 'Maybe she should invest in something more inconspicuous' she thought, but than she turned over the engine and knew nothing inconspicuous would ever sound that good.
Arms full of bags Olivia made her way back into the apartment with the mail in one hand and her cell phone in the other. She shot Fitz a quick text to tell him she's home, knowing he worried, even before her family reared their ugly head.
Having decided to make chicken Parmesan for dinner, she went straight to the kitchen because she knew it would take a while to get everything ready. There was a radio under the cabinet in the kitchen she quickly switched on and allowed herself to get lost in the process of cooking and dancing around to the music. The soundtrack to Stuck in Love came on, and she smiled, thinking about how Fitz went to three different Targets before he found the CD, knowing how much she loved the movie.
Making a full meal, something her grandmother had taught her, felt good. It had been so long since she'd been up to it. She was nearly done frying the chicken, she was flipping with one hand and stirring the gravy on the stove with her other hand, when the smells and sights eventually hit her and tears immediately welled up in her eyes. They were happy tears. She could hear her grandmothers voice telling her to be careful with the oil or that the chicken wasn't brown enough yet. It was almost like she was there with her.
She would have been proud of her cooking a meal for her man. 'Its about damn time Olly, sex and food! That's how you keep a man,' she would tell her and Michael and Huck would cringe while she and Claudia laughed.
"I don't see any smoke, I guess you really can cook! Fuck it smells amazing in here Livid!" Fitz said as he walked in, but he immediately saw the tears in her eyes and paused terrified to ask what happened.
"No it's Okayed their happy tears, well bitter sweet. I was just thinking about grams." He held out his arms for her to walk into them.
"I wish I could have met her."
"She would have hit on you." Olivia told him laughing.
"Okay now I really wish I could have met her." Fitz told her giving her a squeeze.
"Go change." She told him knowing he was uncomfortable, "We've got a while before dinner is ready, oh and mail came for you here?"
He started pulling off his button down as his tie was already hanging untied around his neck,
"Oh don't worry I didn't send out a change of address form or anything. It's technically for you so I had it shipped here. Speaking of which I should probably pick up my mail or have David grab it at least."
"Well it's too small for a puppy and it's too big to be a book so I'm not sure how interested I am," she joked as he handed her the package.
"Okay I'll just keep it." He pulled it back and took it into the room with him where he was going to change.
"Fitz! Come back I want it! I want it!" She looked up at him pouting, knowing that he couldn't resist that look.
"Okay, but there should be an explanation first. Remember the other day we were talking about our favorite movies when we were kids and I said I watched Mary Poppins and the wizard of oz over and over again?"
"Yeah and you said you wanted your own Toto which I still think is ridiculous. You're like nine feet tall you can't have a lap dog."
"Livid focus..."
"Right okay I was complaining about having to watch princess movies with Cammie and how the only ones we could agree on were Cinderella and Anastasia."
"And than you realized that you hadn't seen it in years and spent the entire week trying to find it?"
"You found me the movie!?"
"Amazon is a wonderful place." She tore the package open and pulled out the DVD excitedly.
"Can we watch this tonight instead of game of thrones?!" She begged.
"I thought you'd want to wait until Claudia and Cammie get here." He told her hoping to avoid watching the cartoon. She pouted a little at him,
"But we can always watch it again when they come for thanksgiving." He conceded as if he would ever say no to her in the first place. She gave him a thank you kiss that quickly escalated as she helps him undress from the day.
"Dinner?" He breathed out not really caring, but also not wanting to ruin her hard work all day.
"In the oven on low. We have plenty of time for me to welcome you home and grab a shower." She told him with a wink. After they finished their shower they both changed into comfy clothes, Fitz wearing his Brown sweatpants and a white undershirt, Olivia having stolen his navy t-shirt and a pair of cream colored silk pajama pants.
Olivia added more cheese to the top of the chicken and started boiling the water for spaghetti. She forced Fitz to get the movie started and relax on the couch, after much insistence he finally did. As she was bringing the plates over for them he said,
"You didn't have to do this much work, you could have gotten a jar of ragu and I would have been happy Livid."
"And have my grandmother haunt me! Hah no thanks there will never be any jar gravy in our house!" Minutes later, seconds after he had the first bite he changed his story insisting that he couldn't live without her cooking.
"It's a miracle I've made it this long Livid this is amazing!" When she finished eating he pulled her onto his lap and kissed her fiercely, allowing his hands to play with her still damp curls and teasing her tongue with his own.
"Wow I'll have to cook for you more often if that's the thank you," she said pulling away breathlessly.
"I'm thinking this should be our Monday special."
"I don't want you running yourself ragged for me."
"I really enjoyed it. I felt closer to grams and my family today than I have in years."
"Well than I guess I could put up with it. I'll have to start working out more though." He told her patting his full stomach. She scoffed at him, she'd have to cook every day for the next five years for her to be able to undo what the navy had done to his body. It was perfected, defined, but not obnoxious, covered with a light dusting of hair that he hated and she thought looked manly. His chest was firm but soft enough to cuddle into.
She curled into his side as they settled in to watch the movie. Once she was wrapped securely in his arms, with Zorro curled in her lap, he pressed play. He listened as she giggled and sang along to her favorite parts and as she cooed about how cute the puppy, Pooka, was. Much more preoccupied watching her watch the movie than actually watch it himself, he was surprised by how much he actually enjoyed it.
"I can't believe you found this for me!" She said adoringly from under his arm.
"I can't believe you made me watch a cartoon." He teased her than kissed her forehead the way he knew would bug her. She gave him a dirty look but kissed him firmly on the mouth anyways.
"Don't act like I've never caught you watching nineties cartoons out here."
"The rugrats are an exception and you know that Livid!" She laughed as he pulled her onto him further. Olivia had just straddled Fitz's lap when music began to float through the ceiling of her apartment. Annoyed Olivia dropped her head to his shoulder and groaned.
"Ugh I hate my neighbors!" he laughed at her, she hated the building. He was fairly certain had they not decided to get a house, she wouldn't have made it until the end of her lease anyway.
"What do you know about them, aside from his crappy down beat of course?"
"Don't forget the cat abuser down the hall," she rolled her eyes, "one more thing to look forward to when we shack up."
"About that uhm so I kind of found a house I want you to see."
"Than why do you have your guilty look? The same one you get when you finish my wine."
"It's the same realtor..."
"You didn't!" She hopped off of him.
"No it's just her listing. I found the house online." He defended and pulled her back.
"Ugh maybe we can go through the owners. I think there's a fine or something for them pulling the listing but we could just pay it."
"You haven't seen the house yet and your finding ways to handle the real estate agent?"
"Bee if you love it, I'll love it. We discussed what we are looking for and we agree on pretty much everything important. I'm not worried. I just want us to make our home together." He was touched that she trusted him enough and that she was that excited for them to buy a house together.
"I'll get the lawyer on it in the morning. Hopefully by Christmas we can have a giant tree in the front window."
"That easy?"
"Well it's not like money will be a problem, so we will get approved for the home loan. I've had a perfect credit score since I was fourteen, Dad's lawyers made sure of that even after... And I'm sure even if yours isn't Huck can fabricate whatever we need."
"So were doing this?" She asked hesitant, but excited.
"Were doing this." He affirmed grinning from ear to ear, "and it's going to be great."
"And it's going to be great!" She smiled as she repeated his declaration.
"So now we just need to clarify the important stuff."
"I though we just did?" She asked confused.
"We haven't discussed our dog, obviously he will have to get along with Zorro over there," the cat raised his head and rested back down next to Olivia, "I still think a little Toto looking dog is where it's at." He told her hoping she would agree.
"No way, tiny dogs like that have those high pitched barks that make the neighbors want to kill them plus they nip. I won't be getting attached to a dog than have to get rid of it because it bites our toddler." She spoke definitively, she wanted a giant mutt to go on runs with and protect the house, and the excuses she made were just a way to convince him. He was staring at her bewildered. Not really believing he had heard her right.
"Our toddler?" He asked her excitedly.
"Don't get any ideas, we've got like six maybe eight years before it's even a discussion, but it's my intention to have a bunch of little Grants with your eyes and my cheeks running around." He was still bewildered he couldn't say a word. His lack of a response cut her and she said, "I thought that's what you wanted, you said you like kids. I assumed. I'm sorry. It's fine... I guess." She had always wanted children, even with her life being the mess that it is, she hoped that one day it would calm down enough so that she could be a mother to someone. She was always trying to take care of everyone. It was simply in her nature. But she loved Fitz more than anything in the world. He was her world. If he didn't want kids she would have to reevaluate. She wouldn't bring kids into a world where they weren't wanted.
"Livid I want as many kids as you're willing to give me whenever you want! Whether it's ten days or ten years I want it Livid. I want a bunch of little girls that look just like you and have your attitude and a bunch of boys to keep other boys away from our little girls! God help me but I want a bunch of little Livvies! I just didn't think you thought about it. I'm still adjusting to the new Olivia I guess. Before everything happened you weren't as... I don't know committed I guess, like you were just waiting for the other shoe to drop to find an excuse to run."
"Honestly I was. I was scared to death. I still am, but seeing you bleeding, not knowing what could happen to you and if I could lose you and it would be my own fault was worse than any imagined problems I could come up with in my head. I know what I want now. And it's you. It's always been you. I wait for you, I watch for you, my whole life is you." She told him knowing that it wasn't the feminist thing to say, but in that moment she wanted nothing more than to give herself completely to the man in front of her.
"I love you Livid. I'm so in love with you." It was the only thing he could think to say, but it was all she needed to hear.
