Hello, readers! This chapter is dedicated to the wonderful actor Alan Rickman (the player of Severus Snape) who sadly passed away earlier today after suffering from cancer. Cancer is taking away too many people before their time. Alan Rickman had a wonderful talent that he shared with the world so, rest in peace to another legend. Thank you for bringing the character of Snape to life for us in such a wonderful way.

I'm not J.K Rowling - you know the drill.

Hermione POV

'Take out your wands and get on the floor!', Remus shouted. I reached my hand into my pocket as I crouched down onto my hands and knees. I looked over to see as Harry did the same. My heart beat was going crazy as I looked around to see Remus kneeling down firing spells over the fencing that surrounded the café. I jumped up to his side, wanting to help him, but he tried to push me back down by my shoulder.

'Remus, no! Look', I said pointing to the scene unfolding in front of us. People were falling to the ground and more and more black, hooded figures were to be seen around Diagon Alley, 'There's so many of them and we're the only ones fighting back. They're going to be immediately drawn to us!' At this, Remus took my hand and pulled both of us down next to Harry.

'Remus, what do we do?!' Harry looked desperately at Remus.

'We need to get out of here' He muttered. He rested his back against the fencing and it moved back slightly. 'Wait a minute'. He sat up and started to crawl along the length of the fencing until he reached the corner. He put is hands on top of the fencing and peered over it. He looked for a second before returning to Harry and I.
'Right, this is what we're going to do. There are a line of cafes and restaurants from here all the way to the Leaky Cauldron exit of the street. We're going to crawl in single file along the railing and I am going to move a single panel of fencing each time, allowing us through to the next café. You need to keep low and try not to move any of the tables or chairs. We cannot get caught. Harry, I have a feeling they're here for you', he looked at both of us in turn, 'we're going to be okay. Right. Are you ready? Let's go.'

Remus went in front and Harry and I followed behind him on all fours. We got to the first fence and Remus took out his wand.

'Wingardium Leviosa.' A section of fencing slightly moved off of the ground and Remus, following it with his wand, moved it to rest off to the side. Briefly, he turned his head and looked around at Harry and I before continuing on. My heart was now pounding in my chest as I could hear screams and crashes from the other side of the fencing. We continued moving and it was a slow process. Remus had to delicately levitate each peace of railing so as not to bring too much attention towards us.

Once we had crossed perhaps four or five cafes, something started to feel strange. Something had changed, but I just could not put my finger on it. Then it hit me. Everything had suddenly turned much quieter because most of the firing had stopped and there was only the occasional shout from a death eater or running footsteps. Remus was half way through moving the fencing that would allow us to pass through to the last café before the exit when we heard a call.

'Over there!' That was, unmistakably, the shout of a death eater who had just spotted the fencing moving. Remus called out to both me and Harry immediately.

'Spread out around the café. Hide anywhere except under chairs or tables. You'll be seen to easily!' I stood up, covering my head, and ran. Harry was not far behind me but I could not see Remus anywhere. We pushed our way through the tables and chairs outside and entered the café. The blinds were drawn and the lights were switched off and I had a feeling that Harry and I weren't the only ones who were to be hiding in that café. I saw Harry dive behind the counter in the corner of my eye and I ran through to the kitchen area. I looked around frantically for a place to hide as I heard the door to the café bursting open somewhere behind me. I spotted a space between two of the tall cupboards. I slid in between them. There was only room for me to stand between them and there was barely a few inches between the tip of my nose and the next cupboard. I was breathing heavily from the running and the panic. I closed my eyes and rested my head against the panel behind me. Where was Remus? Was he okay. I could hear tables and chairs being over turned in the front of the café and I let out a small whimper. I was terrified. A death eater wouldn't think twice about killing me.

'Someone check the kitchen'. All the breath left my body as a few tears streamed down my face. I held my hand over my mouth to muffle my breathing. As I heard someone step into the kitchen, the only sounds in the room where the sound of their heavy boots on the tiles and the dripping of a tap somewhere else in the room. I was trying desperately to be quiet. I could hear the footsteps getting ever closer towards my hiding spot. I was well hidden but if they were to look closely, they would surely spot me. I was trapped. My forehead was damp with sweat and my chest was heaving with my deep breaths. I mouthed 'I love you' while thinking of Remus. Harry and Ron. Ginny and the twins. My mother and father. All my loved ones faces flashed across my mind. I tried to calm my breaths. If I wasn't going to leave this kitchen alive, I wanted them to be the last people I thought about.

'Avada Kedavra!' A shout came from the front of the café and the footsteps wondering the kitchen stopped before running out to the front of the café. I took my opportunity and slipped out of my hiding space. I peered around the door frame to see several flashes of light. All I could see was light and all I could hear were shouts. I didn't even hear the word 'stupefy' before I fell to the ground and blacked out.
