What's up you beautiful people!? So here we are again, another week another chapter! And Christmas is right around the corner too! (For those who actually celebrate Christmas at least)
I think that was also part of the reason why I didn't make a Christmas special just because there are a lot of people who don't celebrate it plus I didn't really have much of an idea to make one.
But I did make something christmassy that has to do with this story! I was messing around with a dress-up game thing (a Christmas one) and ended up making something pertaining to this story that is just hilarious to me. So if you want to see it I will post a link to it on my profile, if I don't it's on my deviantart so just go to that link that's always on my profile.
Anyways enough with my crazy Christmas antics and on with the review replies!

Chapter 34: Unexpected Relations
Okay, Nightmare understood that she was looking forward to seeing Rose again, but this was definitely not the time. She couldn't help but to glare at the woman as if Rose had done that one purpose, and she possibly could have too. Law, who didn't even know the woman, wanted to kill her right then and there but refrained from doing so since it seemed that Nightmare knew her. The two separated from each other and stood up from the bed. Rose could sense the distaste in the air and spoke up rather innocently.
"Did you not know I was coming?" Rose asked.
"I knew you were coming, I just didn't know when and didn't expect you to burst through the door like that either," Nightmare grumbled.
"Well I didn't know you were coming at all," Law intervened in the conversation while looking over to Nightmare with a slight glare.
"I would've told you but we were kind of busy with something else…" Nightmare trailed off not sure of how to exactly word it. With a sigh Nightmare walked up to Rose and brought her in front of Law. "Whatever, anyways Rose this is Law or Mister Captain as I call him. Mister Captain this is Rose, she was my mentor in some things in the angel realm," she introduced them for each other. Rose put her hand out and smiled politely.
"I've heard way too much about you," Rose said as she waited for Law to shake her hand, which he did soon enough.
"So why exactly are you here as well?" Law questioned as he eyed Rose. Wasn't it enough to have one of Nightmare's angel friends on board? Why was there another one here now?
"My apologies but that is classified information," Rose told him "all I can tell you is that I've come to watch Nightmare for a bit." Law looked over to Nightmare to see if she had anything to say about this and Nightmare just nodded.
"It's true, if she can't tell you then I definitely can't," Nightmare explained with a shrug. Law sighed knowing that there was no way he could force the information out of her.
"Anyways I'm sorry to have to separate you two but, if you don't mind can I please talk with Nightmare alone for a moment?" Rose tried asking politely. Nightmare noticed that the girl did not want to get on Law's bad side. Well it was good to know that Nightmare had at least one smart angel friend. Law looked at Rose for a moment and then back to Nightmare. He shoved his hands in his pockets and made his way towards the door.
"Fine, dinner is probably almost ready anyways so when you're done just come to the galley," Law told them before leaving. As he closed the door he began mumbling to himself "why ask if I mind or not if you're going to end up kicking me out anyways?"
Rose began to walk around Nightmare's room, slowly examining every square inch of the place. "So this is where you were staying before you started living at Zach's place…" Rose quietly murmured.
"Yeah, what of it?" Nightmare questioned while sitting back down on her bed.
"Oh nothing," Rose chirped and then turned to Nightmare. Rose walked over to the bed and sat down on it so that she was facing Nightmare. "And that was Law, no wonder you like the man so much, he is handsome," Rose said with a slight smile.
"Rose, if you even think about it I will slaughter you," Nightmare was quick to threaten Rose when she saw a borderline mischievous look in her eyes.
"Oh no worries Nightmare, I wouldn't do such a thing. Especially not to someone like you, I'd be dead in seconds," Rose told her with a light laugh. Nightmare's eyes narrowed on the girl.
"Can you just cut to the chase already? You came here for a reason, didn't you?" Nightmare pointed out. Rose took on a more serious demeanor when she heard those words.
"Ah yes, of course," Rose stated. She held out her hand where a folded letter appeared from thin air and urged Nightmare to take it. Nightmare did and unfolded it to read the contents of the letter as Rose started explaining aloud. "Tomorrow morning this submarine will arrive at the next island. Within that island there is your next target. A boy of eighteen years old, his crime was committed with no one in his family knowing at all, so in their eyes he is still the golden boy of the family." Nightmare held her hand up in front of Rose, telling her to stop.
"I told you once before and I'll tell you again, I don't care what their story is. All I have to know is who I have to kill," Nightmare told Rose rather impassively. Rose huffed out a sigh as she hopped off the bed and onto her feet.
"Very well then, but remember that above all you must complete the job without…" Rose wasn't able to finish due to Nightmare cutting her off.
"Leaving a trace, I know," Nightmare muttered under her breath while slowly getting up as well. Rose's eyes narrowed as she stared at Nightmare.
"Nightmare I advise you not to say such a thing so lightly. I do hope that you remember what happens if you leave at least one trace of the kill behind. Not only will it be lights out for you but also for that deal you made with the Order," Rose pointed out in a serious tone. At the mention of the deal Nightmare had made with the Order she glared up at Rose.
"I know that, and that's exactly why I won't screw up," Nightmare snapped in a low tone while walking past Rose and out into the hall. Rose stayed silent for a moment before turning around and following Nightmare with a triumphant smile. Although that conversation wasn't in much need of a winner or loser at all Rose still walked with the pride of a winner. Nightmare ignored Rose's happy attitude and just went on her way to the galley. The hallways were seemingly empty, which only showed that Nightmare and Rose were that much later to get to dinner.
"So how was it to meet all your pirate friends after so long?" Rose attempted to spark a conversation during their walk down the long hallway as if nothing had even happened back in Nightmare's room.
"Good," Nightmare gave a plain answer only because she knew that Rose would bug her if she didn't answer at all. For some reason Nightmare noticed that Rose's smile widened at her response.
"It makes me so glad to see you thishappy," Rose chirped with joy. Nightmare gave Rose a questioning look.
"Happy? Where on earth did you get that from?" Nightmare asked her.
"Isn't it obvious though?" Rose then tilted her head as she stared at Nightmare. Nightmare gave no response and just kept looking at the girl questionably. Rose let out a light chuckle "well I guess it wouldn't be obvious to you but I notice it. For you being happy doesn't come with an easy to notice smile. Then again I am good at noticing things like that. Your eyes, your expressions, your wording, and even your posture seem different to me. You were always so gloomy back at the village so it's honestly new to me that you could look so… full of life," Rose tried her best to explain it in a way that Nightmare could understand. She knew that when it came to such a word as happiness Nightmare wasn't an expert.
"Full of life…" Nightmare repeated in an absentminded mutter. She let out a small chuckle "funny." After that little conversation the two girls had already reached the galley. What happened next was something that no one was able to foresee at all, not even Nightmare. Just as the two entered the galley the clash of a breaking plate was heard on the other side of the room over by the kitchen door. Everyone, who was currently staring at Rose, looked back to the direction of the noise to see Cain frozen in place staring at Rose with widened eyes.
"Rose…" Cain trailed off in disbelief. From that alone it was evident that Cain knew who Rose was, or at least he knew her name. There was more to it though, the look of shock in his eyes told it all. Nightmare was taken slightly off guard by this. It was her understanding that no one in the crew knew any of the angels at all, so how on earth would Cain know who Rose was? Nightmare brought her eyes over to Rose and was met by the same shocked eyes that Cain wore. There was something else though. Something that Nightmare wasn't completely sure on; could it be…?
"Cain…" Rose said and that was when Nightmare was able to confirm her suspicion. Rose was not only surprised to see Cain but there was also the slightest hint of fear that any other person could easily overlook. This was something Nightmare just couldn't let go. Her curiosity was peeking to a height that its barely ever gone to before. There was no doubt in her mind that the angels were the ones who tampered with any possible information that Nightmare would've been able to gain on how the two knew each other. Not only was Nightmare curious but she was also very interested. This was probably the first time she had seen both Cain and Rose be so shocked about something before.
Nightmare's eyes traveled back over to Cain. If there was one thing she did know it was that Cain would definitely be the one to speak first. As much as she wanted to ask a question or two she also wanted to see how things would play out. Nightmare's thought was proven to be true when she saw Cain gain his composure, but oddly enough he wasn't smirking like he normally would in such a situation. "After that day I never thought you'd actually try again, especially since I kept my end of the bargain," Cain's voice was in its usual dark tone, but way more serious than normal. The eyes of the Heart Pirates looked back and forth between the cook and the unfamiliar woman standing next to Nightmare. Zach, surprisingly enough, also had no idea what was going on. Hopefully everyone would be able to find out soon enough, but it was rather hard to wait when key words were already being thrown out into the air. Things like 'that day', 'try again', and 'bargain' stuck out like sore thumbs to those with sharp minds in the room. Nightmare turned back to Rose, eager to hear her retaliation. Sadly, there was none.
Cain let out a heavy sigh while combing a hand through is black hair. "I have to admit though, when the word angel started to get thrown around the sub I thought something like this would happen," from those words alone Nightmare started to form a hypothesis or two. When Cain mentioned the word angel, it gave the obvious clue that he knows that Rose is an angel, and also knew about her being an angel whenever they had come to know each other. Nightmare's initial thoughts were that of a former friendship or maybe even a former love, but both of those were shattered by Cain's first words. Although something like 'that day' could mean anything the words 'try again' and 'bargain' didn't seem to have anything to do with friendship. There was also the fact that angels only ever left to the normal world on a job and Nightmare knew that if Rose was on a job she'd never mess around. The next piece of evidence Nightmare had to work with was that twinge of fear in Rose's eyes. Rose had never shown fear, in fact none of the angels did, if an angel were to ever show fear then there could only be one cause, and that was the higher ups or much rather the Order of the Lawgivers.
Aside from the Order of the Punishers the Order of the Lawgivers were probably the scariest out of all Orders. They controlled everything. Every rule, decree, or law was made up by them for all other Orders to follow. Contrary to popular belief it is them who make the rules and regulations for each Order. They are the same people who hold court sessions as the judges, just like the old man who was the judge for Nightmare's council meeting. If an angel did anything that went against the rules made for their Order then they'd have to go through the Order of the Lawgivers. The scariest thing about that is the fact that they could end you in an instant or make you suffer for years.
From that thought Nightmare started to collect more pieces to complete the puzzle. Rose showing fear must've meant that the Order of the Lawgivers was definitely involved, but how? Cain was most certainly not an angel in disguise, or even a rogue angel for that matter since the thought alone was ridiculous. The only other option was that Rose must've done something wrong or against the rules involving Cain. Did she maybe leave behind a trace of a killing? No, unless it was in her early years as a Punisher then that wasn't likely. Then another, almost unimaginable, thought came to Nightmare's mind. It couldn't be, could it? This was Cain though, and Nightmare had never quite seen his full potential in a battle yet. Just as Nightmare's thoughts were reaching a conclusion Rose spoke up causing that conclusion to become completely affirmed.
"I'm not here to kill you," she mumbled in a low tone. It turns out that Nightmare's final thought was right. Cain had somehow been able to escape the wrath of a Punisher out to get him and lived. Nightmare was honestly shocked by this. Throughout that entire year in the angel community she had read close to every history book there was and had never read about anything similar to this.
No one was able to hear Rose's low mumble except for Nightmare. Rose took this as her chance to grab Nightmare by the arm and forcefully drag her back out into the hall to have a quick word with her. Zach got up from where he was and followed after, he may not be a part of the Order of the Punishers but this was most likely something worth knowing. Before either Nightmare or Zach could speak Rose was the first one to talk.
"Why the hell is that devil's child on this submarine?" she spat with both anger and that tiny hint of fear Nightmare had sensed from before.
"As fitting of a name as that is for him why are you referring to Cain as a devil's child?" Nightmare questioned with a raised brow.
"Because he is one!" she said in obvious annoyance. Saying that he was a devil's child was plain over exaggeration but Nightmare couldn't help but to become more curious as to why or how he had acquired that nickname.
"How so?" Zach asked jumping into the conversation. Rose leaned back against the wall of the hallway and heaved a sigh. Before she began her explanation she tried her best to calm down. Her eyes scanned the hall to make sure no one was listening in and then began to speak in a low voice.
"That man… he is the only man in history to ever escape a punishment, not even once but twice," Rose finally admitted. Nightmare was right. Somehow Cain was able to escape such a fateful end and live, but what surprised Nightmare was that he pulled it off twice.
"How come neither of us have ever heard of this?" Nightmare inquired hoping that her question would pull the entire story out of Rose.
"Obviously the whole incident was covered up by the Order, only the Punishers who were there at the time know about it. Back then the rules weren't as strict in punishments. We didn't have to triple check to see if we left a trace behind, all we had to do was kill and leave. But then I was assigned with the task to get rid of a fourteen year-old roughly ten years ago. His crime was the murder of his own family along with setting his village to flames. At that time I had been a part of the Order for about two years already. Just like any other angel would, I didn't think much of my target other than the fact that'd he'd be gone like all the rest. No one had ever screwed up a mission yet so it was obvious that I wouldn't think that I'd fail. Anyways I looked over his information and then devised a plan." Rose stopped talking to gain her breath. Nightmare saw the reminiscence in Rose's eyes and that fear that had probably been present on that day as well.
"I remember it so clearly. That was the first day in my life that I had ever feared a human being. I'd say that if there's one thing that angels and humans have in common then it's that eminent fear of death." Nightmare honestly wanted to scoff at that fact. Not because she herself wasn't afraid of death but because Rose had implied that a fear of death was the only thing the humans and the angels had in common. "From the moment I took on the mission I knew that he had red eyes but seeing them in person was completely different. All signs showed that he was asleep yet right when I went for the kill his eyes shot open. It was almost as if he has an alarm in his head that goes off whenever death is nearby. It frightened me to suddenly see those orbs of blood red but even more so that he had seen me with my wings out and all. I'll never forget the first words I heard him speak on that day… 'you've chosen the wrong target'. He was smirking too as if he already knew he'd get away. I was taken aback by his voice and just recklessly tried to kill him. That only allowed him to easily dodge my attack. I still tried to go after him but somehow he had escaped me." Rose paused for another moment before concluding her story.
"After that I went back to the Order and shamefully told them of my mistake. I was punished but not put to death. That's when all the rules were changed about leaving a trace. It surprised me that they didn't send someone else after Cain straight away since he knew of our existence but that wasn't the last time I saw him or his name. Around five to six years later his name was back up on the board and I made the stupid mistake of begging the Order to redeem myself. By this time he had already become a part of the Heart Pirates but back then I didn't take much notice to that, which is why I was so surprised to see him just now. Fear struck me once again when I had failed in the same exact way as the first time. But rather than him escaping he had trumped me in strength. On that day he had done something for the first time in history. He struck a deal with the angels. People can know about the angels but for people to know about the angels who are supposed to kill them was forbidden. Cain had picked this up and struck the deal to promise to keep his lips sealed as long as we didn't go after him again. It was a deal and those two incidents were never mentioned again." That sentence had marked the end of Rose's story. Rose looked the two both in the eye waiting to hear their responses.
"I can't say I'm extremely surprised that Cain was able to accomplish such a thing. I've never seen his full strength and his persuasive skills are better than most people. The thing that I'm surprised about is that the Order actually agreed to this deal," Nightmare stated and Zach nodded in agreement. It was reasonable that Rose alone would agree to such a thing but the entire Order agreeing to it was quite the stretch.
"Well in truth I've left a bit of it out but I seriously thought I'd never see that guy again," Rose muttered under her breath.
"Well here I am so tough luck," the deep voice of Cain sounded from the galley door. He wasn't there the entire time but he had listened in to the last portion of Rose's story. Cain still seemed to refuse to wear his usual smirk and spoke with a borderline annoyed tone. It became clear to Nightmare at that point that both Cain and Rose disliked each other and wouldn't be able to get over their abnormal past very easily. A devious smirk crossed Nightmare's face as she thought about how much fun it'd be to have Rose onboard the submarine for a while.
A/N: Okay so I'm so serious when I say this. Right when I decided that Rose would indeed be a character in this story I was literally just like "Okay... This girl is totally going to know Cain *game-face mode activated*" And that's how it happened. So there are a few things I'd like to address about this chapter. I was somewhat wary to have Rose call him a devil's child just because some of you might've gotten the wrong idea and stuff like that so I specifically specified that she was over exaggerating. As awesome as it would be I think I would be digging myself too far down if I even try to put in that type of drama that Cain is like a devil or something. So no, Cain is not a devil!
The next thing I'd like to address is just that I was going to name the chapter A Surprising Relationship but that might have ended up in people thinking that Nightmare and Law would be found out so I renamed it to that.
Lastly is that I the reason why I put this whole chapter in the story is because Cain is becoming more and more of a loved character (As I have noticed by my lovely reader, that's right, I'm talking about you... and you). So I thought that it would do the story some justice, especially since I feel bad for not having as many action scenes as I would like.
Aaaanyways you guys have no idea how much I love Oda right now! (Possible spoilers for those who aren't caught up) But seriously I'm am soooo freaking glad that we are in filler territory in One Piece right now just because the filler includes Law! Law + Filller = the most glorious and hilarious thing ever! I seriously laughed throughout the entire episode (the one that came out yesterday)
Now that that's said and done I'd like to just said FAVORITE, FOLLOW, AND REVIEWWW!
Till next time,
~Zelleroni!
