"Elena's eight months pregnant." Pamela began. "We need to be prepared for if anything goes wrong."
She didn't flinch as I went to lunge at her before Kol and Klaus each grabbed one of my arms to hold me back.
"Nothing is going to go wrong." I hissed, rage coursing through me at her words. "Do you hear me? And, if it does, it will be on your head!"
"Elijah!" Rebekah admonished, surprised at my behavior, but Pamela just shook her head.
"It's perfectly alright, Rebekah. A lot of expectant fathers become very protective at around this stage in the pregnancy." She explained. "It's just being enhanced by Elijah's vampirism."
My siblings relaxed slightly at Pamela's words, but I continued to glare at the witch, shrugging off my brothers' hold and stalking to the other side of the room.
"You are our plan!" I enunciated, pointing at the dark haired witch. "That is why you are here. Or have you forgotten your purpose in this house?"
"I am a midwife." Pamela said clearly. "I can deliver the baby, but not if anything goes drastically wrong. If Elena needs surgery then we need a plan, and we need one soon. Because she is nearly thirty-six weeks pregnant. This is happening and it is happening soon. If we don't have a plan, then we could lose them both."
I felt my eyes blacken and veins come out in full force before I could do anything to stop it and I growled at the witch, causing my brothers to move beside her, watching me warily.
"I won't let that happen." I snapped.
"You won't be able to do anything to stop it."
~~O~~
"Are you okay?" Elena asked, coming up behind me. "Bekah said you got a bit agitated with Pam earlier."
She huffed when her stomach hit my back before she could wrap her arms around me and I turned to her with a raised eyebrow. "I want this thing out of me." She said plainly, glaring at her stomach.
I laughed softly and wrapped my arms around her, resting my chin on the top of her head. "The 'thing' that is our son?" I asked.
"I don't care." Elena muttered, sinking into the hug. "I just want it out." She said again, making me laugh. "Oh, you think I'm kidding?" She asked, looking up at me. "Do you have any idea how many times I've peed today? It's not even one o'clock yet."
I smiled sympathetically, resting my chin on her head again and letting out a soft sigh. "We're nearly there. Four and a half weeks left."
"We hope." Elena murmured. "I swear to God if this kid doesn't come out when it's supposed to I will scream."
I chuckled. "I don't doubt that for a second." I said, kissing the top of her head.
~~O~~
"Elijah Mikaelson, right?" Meredith Fell asked, surprised to find me sat in her office.
I nodded, watching the doctor as she settled into the chair behind her desk, looking wary with me sat in the room.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, sitting ram-rod straight.
"What do you know about Elena's…condition?" I asked, folding my hands in my lap and sitting forward slightly.
"She's pregnant with your child." Meredith nodded. "If my calculations are correct she should be due soon."
"Four weeks and a half." I confirmed with a nod. "We have a midwife who is aware of the…possible supernatural ramifications and is prepared to deliver the baby when the time comes."
"But?" The doctor asked, leaning forward slightly as she sensed the reason for my visit was coming to light.
"But, we have been informed that she is not properly equipped to handle things should they go wrong and we have been advised to find someone who is." I said, tapping the arm of my chair lightly. "Naturally, as a doctor who is aware of the supernatural presence in this town and of who Elena and I are, I thought of you."
"You want me on standby if anything goes wrong and Elena needs surgery?" She reiterated, her brow furrowed.
I nodded, raising an eyebrow at the doctor. "So? Can Elena and I rely on you? Or will I be forced to find someone else in the limited time we have left?"
"I'll need to know everything about her pregnancy that I can." The doctor said with a sigh, settling back into her chair.
"Of course." I said, producing a flash drive from the inside of my jacket and handing it to the woman as I stood.
"I'll see you around, Doctor Fell."
~~O~~
"Hey." I said, waddling to Elijah's side and awkwardly lowering myself onto the couch beside him. "I'm not going to ignore the fact that you didn't answer me earlier just because you disappeared for an hour or so."
Elijah smiled with a soft sigh, putting his arm around my shoulders. "I expect nothing less." He murmured, his arm tightening around my shoulders as I nestled into his hold and rested my head on his chest.
"What's wrong, Elijah?" I asked softly, rubbing his chest lightly. "You can tell me."
"Truth?"
"Always. We promised not to lie to each other."
Elijah didn't say anything to me for a few long moments before letting out a long sigh. "I'm scared, Elena." He whispered, his arm tightening on me automatically. "I'm so scared that I might lose you. Both of you. There's so many things that can go wrong. And I'm scared."
"You're not going to lose me." I said softly, sitting up to look Elijah in the eye. "I am going to do everything I can to keep anything from going wrong. And, if it does, you'll be fine. You're strong enough to handle this." I murmured, placing my hand on Elijah's cheek. "We both are."
I pulled Elijah into a hug, feeling him tremble against me as he tried to keep from crying. "It's okay." I whispered, feeling him wrap his arms around me. "It's gonna be okay."
I saw movement out the corner of my eye and looked up, surprised to see Rebekah stood in the doorway, looking at her brother with a sad and slightly stunned expression. She met my eye a moment later and stared at me for a second before smiling at me slightly, nodding as she turned and left the doorway.
~~O~~
"I'm sorry abou-" I was cut off by Elena slapping me in the mouth with her batter-covered mixing spoon and glaring at me.
"Don't you dare apologize to me for telling me the truth." She snapped, glaring at me for a moment before taking the spoon away and continuing to stir her chocolate cake mix.
"Okay." I said softly, licking my lips to remove the cake mix and humming at the taste. "That's really good." I murmured, reaching to take some out of the bowl with my finger and pulling back when Elena hit my hand with the spoon. "Hey!"
"Keep your fingers away from my cake mix." She ordered, pointing at me with the wooden spoon she was wielding.
"Okay!" I surrendered, holding up my hands until she stopped glaring at me and went back to stirring the cake mix. "Do you want me to do anything?"
"Can you grab a cupcake tray?" Elena asked. "And fill it with..these?" She placed a pot of cupcake cases in front of me and went back to stirring the mix when I nodded.
She paused a moment later, taking one hand and resting it on her stomach, taking a deep breath in.
"Elena?" I asked, dropping the wrappers I was holding and blurring to her side. "Are you okay?"
She smiled at me a second later, just as I was about to call for Pam and took her hand away from her stomach, resting it on my arm. "I'm okay, 'Lijah." She giggled. "It's just Braxton Hicks."
I let out a sigh of relief. Practice contractions. "Don't do that again." I breathed, pulling her into a hug.
Elena giggled, letting go of her mixing spoon to wrap her arms around me in return. "Sorry." She laughed. "They started while you were off wherever you were earlier."
"Sometimes I could swear you're trying to kill me." I sighed, dropping my head to her shoulder and burying my face in her neck.
Elena gigged again, running her fingers through my hair. "You know, you're not getting again of my cake mix just because you nearly had a heart attack."
I let out a muffled groan and moved back slightly to look at her. "Not even a little bit?"
"Not even." Elena laughed, slapping me on the chest. "And don't you pull your puppy dog eyes on me, Elijah Mikaelson!"
I sighed, and looked away from her, turning back to laying out empty cupcake cases on the tray. "Now I know you're really trying to kill me."
Elena smirked, beginning to fill the cases with mix. "You're cute when you pout."
"Only when I pout?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
She stared at me for a few moments, eyes darkening before she forced herself to look back at the cupcakes. "I hate you."
"Why?" I grinned, walking up behind Elena, putting my hands on her waist. "Because I'm so cute?" I asked, kissing her neck lightly, smirking when she let her head fall back against my chest.
"You're an ass." Elena let out in breathy laugh.
"Why's that?" I asked, kissing Elena's neck and chuckling quietly as her body melted into mine.
"Oh my God…" Elena moaned. "Elijah, this is so not fair."
"Is that so?" I asked, nibbling the skin of her ear.
"You're an-ohmygodihateyou!"
"Hmmm…I love you too."
"You don't have any idea how much I want you." Elena moaned, leaning back into me.
"You say that like it's a problem."
"Have you looked at me lately?" She asked. "I'm the size of a house!"
I scoffed against her neck. "You're gorgeous, my lovely." I assured her, pushing the tray of unbaked cakes away and turning Elena in my arms, lifting her onto the counter at the same time.
"You're a terrible liar." Elena murmured, smiling at me.
"I don't lie." I said firmly. "Especially after we promised each other not to."
Elena smiled at me again, her eyes darkening when I nipped at her neck again.
"I need to cook these cakes…" She protested weakly, making me laugh.
"I'll get Rebekah to do it." I shrugged. "Unlike Kol or Niklaus, she won't eat all of the mix."
"I'm supposed to be feeling fat and ugly and house-like and you are making that very hard."
"I'm pretty sure that's my job."
"And you're so very good at it." Elena purred, kissing me lightly, tilting her head to the side as I tailed my lips down her neck.
"You said Bekah'll do the cupcakes?"
I hummed in confirmation, not taking my lips from the skin of her neck.
"She'd better do a good job."
I grinned, nipping her throat lightly when she began unbuttoning my shirt.
~~O~~
After our…activities, Elena dragged me into a shower where, despite my laughter, she insisted that I shave her legs and…other places, not for the first time since her stomach had gotten bigger.
She had then coerced me into applying some…thing called…body butter? Not that I have any idea what that is, but she seemed to want it on.
Currently, I was being used as a full body pillow by her, another thing that had become a common occurrence. No matter how I went to sleep, I would wake up in the morning with Elena wrapped around me, which would lead to me lying awake for three or four hours until she woke.
I looked to the door at the sound of my name being called and softly invited them in, smiling at Rebekah as she edged open the door lightly, peering around it.
"Hey." She whispered, smiling at me and coming forward to sit on the corner of the bed. "She okay?"
I nodded, looking down at the sleeping girl in my arms. "Just tired."
"Well she'd better wake up hungry." Rebekah huffed. "You honestly have no idea how much mix fits in that bowl, until you have to make cupcakes with it. I had to make Kol go and buy another tub of cupcake cases."
I laughed slightly, shaking my head. "And how many have Kol and Niklaus already eaten?"
Rebekah grimaced, shuddering slightly for effect. "They are so lucky they can't throw up from overeating."
I laughed again, groaning at the same time. "Will they ever learn?"
Rebekah shrugged, looking at Elena thoughtfully. "Well…they did just eat half of a nearly nine months pregnant woman's cupcakes. Maybe she'll teach them a lesson."
"They are afraid of her." I agreed. "I'm assuming you didn't tell them the cakes were Elena's."
"And spoil the fun for when she wakes up?" Rebekah asked, raising an eyebrow. "Who do you think I am?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "Thank you." I said sincerely, placing my free hand over my sisters for a moment.
Rebekah smiled back. "Of course. You know..she isn't so bad."
I smiled, ever since the sleepover the girls had had a few weeks ago, something had changed between my sister and Elena. Rebekah was a lot more willing to spend time with Elena than before and they seemed to get along a lot better.
"I'm glad the two of you are getting along." I smiled, careful to keep my voice from going any louder than a whisper.
Rebekah smiled too. "Did she tell you she apologized for daggering me?"
I quirked an eyebrow, looking at Elena for a moment. "No, she didn't."
"After the girl's night." Rebekah smiled, looking at Elena just as I looked back up. "She said she was sorry and she was trying to protect her family…she didn't think I'd be able to go through with the plan against Nik."
"Would you have gone through with it?" I asked softly.
"I honestly don't know." Rebekah said softly with a small shrug. "I was angry with him…but…I don't know if I would have been able to go through with having him killed."
"Believe me, I understand."
Rebekah grinned at me, both of us looking at Elena when she let out a soft noise in her sleep and nestled closer to me, her arm tightening around my waist.
"I don't say this often, and if you tell anyone I said this I will find a dagger," Rebekah began after a moment, drawing my attention back to her, but she was still looking at Elena, "you've done good, Elijah. Elena and this baby are exactly what you and the rest of this family need. I'm proud of you, brother."
I smiled at Rebekah, accepting the awkward half-hug, blinking away the moisture in my eyes.
"I love you, sister."
"I love you too, 'Lijah."
"And I love both of you, but I'm trying to sleep here." Elena muttered, making Rebekah and I jump slightly.
"I didn't notice you wake up." I said softly, running my hand through her hair.
Elena raised an eyebrow. "I'm half a week off of being nine months pregnant, I was barely asleep in the first place."
"So I get used and abused as a full body pillow for the hell of it then?"
"You're comfy." Elena shrugged, making Rebekah laugh.
~~O~~
So there was a time jump of a couple of weeks in this chapter, and there will probably be a slighter smaller one next chapter as well as I try to get to the birth. Name ideas are more than welcome :)
