Ch 36
Fili watched as his wife fired arrows at Bolg, he was going to go to her side when he noticed Thorin on his knees struggling against two large orcs. Fili ran to his uncle's side cutting down orcs as he ran. Kili saw his brother and followed him. The brothers struggled to get to their uncle and as they got there they noticed two arrows in his chest and he was still fighting. Fili yelled for Maggie but she was already charging at Bolg yelling out curses in Khuzdul. Tauriel ran over to them and covered their backs, Kili went to find Oin as Thorin pushed Fili away.
"Fight. I will live." Thorin gritted.
"Uncle, you need help." Fili said as Thorin shook his head.
"I've survived worse." Thorin's gaze fell on Maggie who had a sword in one hand and her staff in the other. "Go to your wife." Thorin said struggling to stand.
Fili helped Thorin to his feet and Thorin snapped the ends of the arrows and he started fighting. Fili stayed at his side and he saw Tauriel run towards Maggie, an orc was coming at her from behind and she couldn't see it because she and Bolg were battling. Tauriel dove through the air taking an arrow in her right shoulder. Maggie slashed at Bolg gouging her cheek as she turned to Tauriel who was trying to stand.
"Do not worry about me." She she elf said as Maggie turned back in time to block another blow from Bolg.
"Is this all you've got?" Maggie gritted putting the staff back on her back and making a fist as a burst of energy flew from her hand sending Bolg crushing into a bolder. "Tauriel!" Maggie said running to her friend.
"Maggie, go. Keep yourself safe." Tauriel said pulling the arrow out biting her lip.
"Let me heal you."
"No, kill him." Tauriel said wiping at her brow leaving a trail of blood. Maggie nodded and stood facing Bolg who was charging towards her. Maggie bent down and picking up a large stone and threw it at Bolg's face. The stone hit him in the face but he continued to run.
"Morrigan, give me strength." Maggie murmured as she raised her sword and plunged it into Bolg's stomach. The Gundabad Orc staggered and swung his fist which narrowly missed Maggie's head. He grabbed her by the shirt pulling her up to his face. Maggie spit in his face and swung her leg so it lodged the sword deeper into his body.
"I won't let you or your father take them." She gritted as the orc dropped her and she landed on her feet. Maggie said a spell as another sword appeared in her hand. Bolg pulled out the sword that was already in his body and threw it at Maggie's feet growling at her.
"Your nothing but a piece of shit, just like your father." Maggie spat. She charged at Bolg and their swords clashed. Bolg pushed Maggie back with his sword and before she could respond he swung his sword cutting into her left arm. Maggie looked at the bleeding wound and put her other hand over it, covering it in blood.
"Dumb ass." She muttered putting up her bloody hand. She felt her body shake as she started speaking in Gaelic as Bolg fell to his knees in pain. He howled as many orcs looked at him in fear. The spell continued until Bolg lay dead and Maggie fell to her knees exhausted. "Fuck, fuck…" She muttered as Fili ran to her side putting her hand over the wound she felt her body healing.
"How did you do that?"
"Honestly I don't know." Maggie said putting her hands on the stones. "Someone must have possessed me to do it."
"We need to heal Thorin." Maggie looked in the direction of Thorin who was fighting still with Dwalin at his side.
"They are still coming." Maggie said trying to stand but she was too weak. Tauriel and Kili appeared in front of her. Tauriel was limping from a leg wound and Kili's hand was covered in a bloody bandage. "Fili, try to channel my power to heal Thorin. I don't think I can make it over there."
"It will kill her and the-" Maggie knew what Tauriel was about to say as Maggie stood.
"Look, there is another group attacking the back of your army." Maggie said as Tauriel's eyes narrowed.
"I must go." She said hurrying off as Maggie tried to walk but Kili stopped her.
"Fili, she's too weak. Maggie sit." Kili said as Maggie frowned.
"But Thorin-"
"Uncle is strong. I'll stay here with Maggie." Kili said as Fili helped her back to a sitting position.
"I'll try and bring him to you." Fili said before hurrying off. The orcs avoided the area where Maggie was now most of them feared the witch.
"Kili, go fight. I'm ok." Maggie said resting her hands on the stones as she felt some of her power return.
"Tauriel told me, your with child." Maggie's eyes widened. She had suspected it for some days but she refused to focus on the idea since she knew of the upcoming battle. "I am staying here protecting you and my niece or nephew. That's what Fili would want me to do. Does he know?" Maggie shook her head.
"I wasn't even sure." She said softly.
"Tauriel is sure. Now uncle and Dain and the others will have to accept you as their princess. Children are so rare that no one will now question you." Maggie stood.
"I can't just stay here and do nothing."
"Fine, I'm not leaving your side." Kili said following Maggie in the direction of Thorin and Fili. Maggie hear a roar and saw Beorn tearing at Azog. The leader of the Gundabad Orcs was already badly wounded and Beorn raised a large claw and ripped into his chest. Maggie pointed this out as Kili grinned.
"Good." The orcs seemed to notice their two leaders were dead and the remaining orcs started to flee or fight even harder. Kili and Maggie fought their way to Thorin and Fili's side. Thorin was slumped against the side of mountain breathing shallowly and Fili had a dagger sticking out of his shoulder.
"Uncle!" Kili said running to Thorin. Maggie started fighting at Fili's side and once the orcs around them were dead she turned to him.
"Let me." She put one hand on his shoulder and one hand on the blade, Maggie pulled the blade out quickly as she said a healing spell and the wound healed.
"Tell him." Kili said as Fili looked at Maggie questionably.
"Tauriel….she says that we are going to have a child. I'm pregnant." Fili's face lit up as she swung Maggie around.
"That is why….I thought you seemed different."
"I wasn't sure and…."
"Come here." Thorin said weakly waving his hand. "Maggie, I'm sorry. You fought bravely today and healed both of my nephews and now your going to be the mother of the next prince." Thorin started to cough and blood appeared on his lips.
"I can help you."
"No, you need to rest. Your already pale and we have the next prince or princess of Erebor to think about."
"I'll get Oin." Kili said standing and looking around for the healer.
"Thorin, I- let me please." Maggie said as Thorin grabbed her hand which was starting to hover over his wounds.
"No, the only thing you need to do now is rest. I saw what you did to Bolg. Fili, I'm sorry I doubted your wife. She is worthy and my father was right, she does have the spirit of a dwarf." Maggie bit her lip tears coming to her eyes. Thorin started to cough again and Fili pulled Maggie to his chest.
"Thorin, please. Lizzie-"
"I don't want her to see me like this. She should be happy…with someone who can love her with all his heart…..someone who is good enough for her. Maybe Bard…." Thorin trailed off as his coughing got worse. Kili came back with Oin and Maggie scrambled out of the way.
"I should find Gandalf….maybe he can…"
"I'll find him. Rest my love." Fili said kissing the top of her head. Maggie backed up a few steps and noticed Gloin and Bofur walking towards them. Maggie walked over to Gloin.
"Can you please go get Lizzie? I'll let her know your coming." Gloin nodded as he and Bofur walked back towards the entrance. Maggie broke the protection spell and called out to her sister to let her know Gloin was coming for her and she needed to be quick. Maggie looked around, all over the mountain lay dead orcs and she noticed many dwarves who looked to be from the Iron Hills. Further down the mountain she saw dead men and elves along with more orcs and wargs. It seemed like hours but it was only a few minutes before Gloin and Bofur came with Lizzie.
"Liz, I…. you were right."
"Your having a baby!" Lizzie shrieked loudly causing those around them to look.
"Congratulations, lassie. You shouldn't have been out here today."
"Tauriel was the one to tell Kili and he told me." Maggie took a deep breath. "Lizzie, Thorin…..Thorin is badly hurt."
"I need to go to him. Did you heal him?" Maggie shook her head. "Then do it. You have to help him."
"I wanted to but he wouldn't let me. He told me all I can do is rest, he doesn't want me to risk the baby." Lizzie started to cry as Maggie put an arm around her shoulder. "Come this way." When they reached Thorin Gandalf was there as was Bilbo. Thorin was apologizing to Bilbo when he spotted Maggie and Lizzie.
"Of course you didn't listen, you never did." Thorin said with a half laugh. Thorin motioned for Liz as everyone else backed up to give them privacy.
"Lassie, how are you doing?" Oin asked.
"I'm ok."
"You need to rest, Thorin told me. Your put enough strain on your body and you need to rest. You should go back into the mountain."
"Oin, I can't. Not yet." The old healer nodded his head and returned to Thorin's side. Fili went over as well as Maggie stood back with Gandalf and Bilbo.
"Thorin told us the exciting news." Gandalf said patting Maggie on the shoulder.
"He is very proud." Bilbo said as Maggie noticed Dain, Thorin Stonehelm, and Kona were approaching.
"Here we go." Maggie muttered.
"Lass, we heard the news."
"How-"
"My son heard your sister yelling, word has spread all down the mountain."
"Oh….wow…" Maggie looked at the ground.
"We also heard about Bolg, maybe I was wrong about you." Maggie looked up to see Dain half smiling as he extended his hand.
"Thank you, Dain." She said shaking it.
"You did well with a bow and sword." Kona said as her cheeks flushed.
"Thank you. Kona, I know we didn't start off well but maybe someday we can be friends." The dwarf nodded. Dain went to speak to Thorin.
"How are your troops?" Maggie asked.
"We lost many but we fought bravely." Thorin Stonehelm said as Maggie spotted Thranduil and Bard making their way up.
"Excuse me." Bard reached the area first.
"I'm glad to see your safe. How is everyone? We lost many men."
"Thorin….he's badly wounded but everyone else is fine."
"I heard the news…." Bard said as Maggie flushed.
"Yes, it seemed everyone heard Lizzie."
"Is she ok?"
"Yes, she was inside the mountain. She is over there." Bilbo was hugging Liz as she sobbed into his shoulder.
"Margaret, Tauriel….she is badly wounded and wants to see you and the dwarf prince."
"Kili! Come!" Maggie said loudly as Kili hurried over.
"What?"
"We need to go see Tauriel." Thranduil motioned down the mountain as Kili and Maggie walked quickly. They found Tauriel laying on the ground with Legolas holding her hand.
