Chapter Thirty-Five: Outsmarted

Hikaru had taken care of everything. We were set up in the Ritz for the next five days and then in the Hotel Kintetsu, which is the closest hotel to Universal Studios, where we'll be spending the weekend.

"I can't believe this!" Kimi exclaimed excitedly, "This is awesome!"

"Glad you're happy." I smiled shaking my head, "Excited for the seminar tomorrow?"

"Yes!" She smiled, "Oh my god, what am I gonna wear?!" She grabbed her suitcase and went into her her room and started to go through it. I went into mine and pulled out my computer. I turned it on and went on to skype to try to see if I could talk to Reiko, so we could put together our class project.

When I got on to skype, three different people tried to call me: my brother, Hikaru and Kaoru, they only counted for one person on skype because they shared one, and Reiko.

Just a minute. Let me get rid of the other two people trying to call me and I'll call you. I typed to Reiko.

Okay.She typed back.

Let me get rid of Tamaki and I'll call you guys.I typed to Hikaru and Kaoru.

Got it.One of them typed back.

I accepted the call from Tamaki, getting ready to lie through my teeth.

"Where are you?" He yelled.

"On a field trip for a class." I replied. It wasn't fully a lie. I was going to be attending a class.

"None of our classes have field trips." Tamaki replied.

"I'm in classes you not."

"Not many."

"And it's for one of those." I replied, "I'll be back on Monday. I've gotta go."

"Alright fine." Tamaki sighed, "But next time would you let someone know your going out of town?"

"I told Hikaru and Kaoru, not my fault their fighting."

"Let me rephrase that, next time would you tell me you're leaving town?"

"Yeah." I replied, "Bye."

"Bye." He hung up. I called Hikaru and Kaoru.

"How's the fight going?" I asked them when they picked up.

"Pretty well." Hikaru replied.

"We've got everyone fooled." Kaoru added.

"We've decided to kick it up a notch for tomorrow." Hikaru stated, holding up a couple of bottles of washout hair dye.

"Good deal." I nodded.

"How's everything going over there?" Kaoru asked.

"Good. Kimi's finding something to wear for tomorrow." I replied, "I just got a call from Tamaki, I guess he noticed after he got home that I wasn't there."

"He noticed when he went to leave." Hikaru replied, "Asked Kyoya, Sumi, and Hunny and they said they didn't know."

"Sumi knew." I replied, "But she's not gonna say anything."

"We think Kyoya tried to call you." Kaoru told me.

I shrugged, "Phone's dead, so I won't know till it's charged."

"Knowing Tamaki, he's probably told him by now." Kaoru pointed out.

"Knowing Kyoya, he's not gullible enough to believe it." I countered logically.

"Then what are you going to tell him?" Kaoru asked.

"That I'm fine. I'm out of town for a few days taking a class with a friend and that I'll be back on Monday." I replied simply, "That way there's no mention of you guys or Kimi, or that your whole fight it a cover up to mask my plans and Hikaru's boredom."

"And you think he'll buy that?"

"It's the truth. Not a whole detailed truth, but the truth."

"I hope for our sakes he buys it." Kaoru replied.

"Yeah, there's nothing worse than an angry Kyoya." Hikaru agreed.

"You've got that right." I nodded, "Let's just go with what we have for him, and if he doesn't believe it, I'll come up with something and tell you guys later."

"We're got a dinner with our mom, so we'll talk to ya later." Hikaru stated.

"Alright, I've gotta call someone anyway."

"Geez, you're busy tonight." Kaoru commented.

"Guess so." I shrugged, "I'll talk to guys later."

"Later." They both sighed off.

I called Reiko.

"Hey sorry it took so long, had to make a couple of calls."

"No problem." She replied, "Now I've got some good news and some not so good news."

"What's the good news?"

"I talked to the professor after school and gave us the okay on our ideas, all of them."

"Great." I smiled, "And the not so good news?"

"We have a third member, he's gonna place her with us tomorrow. She and her partner didn't get along so well, he has to separate them."

"That's not too bad." I replied optimistically, "Who's the third member?"

"Jounouchi, Ayame."

"No…" I groaned, "Not Ayame…"

"I feel bad for the two guys that got stuck with Anju, one of them's absolutely afraid of her and he gets to find out tomorrow that they have to work together." Reiko laughed. Anju was as black magic as you could get. It was one of the only things she was interested in, well that, steampunk, and porcelain dolls. The only one in the club that was more interested in black magic than Anju was Nekozawa himself.

"Who's being paired with her?"

"Your brother and his friend." Reiko answered smirking, "They were checking in with the professor on their progress and handing in the outline and that sort of stuff. Going over everything, and stuff. The dude totally freaked when he found out. It was hilarious, a little offensive, but hysterical. Neither Ayame or Anju were too thrilled to hear who their new partners were. The professor said unless we want to make a switch amongs ourselves, he wasn't going to do anything about it."

"If we switched Ayame and Anju, our project would be even better and we wouldn't have to worry about Ayame not liking our ideas and trying to take over."

"That's true." She agreed.

"I could conference in my brother and Kyoya and we could talk to them about it. Ayame gets along with Kyoya, she wouldn't have too much of a problem with them."

"She can't stand me, so she'd probably say yes." She agreed, "Conference them in and see what they think. And then Kyoya can talk to Ayame and I'll talk to Anju."

I conferenced the boys in.

"Hey guys, you know Reiko." I greeted them. She nodded in acknowledgement. "We have a proposition for you, we want Anju, and from what I hear, you both would probably prefer working with Ayame. We both have certain ways we would like to go with our projects and Ayame's more scholarly approach is not the route we'd like to go with ours. We're more on the unconventional side. But you two being at the top of the class, I don't think would mind having the third highest ranking student in our year no less on your team, one who's very good at the scholarly mumbo jumbo, while we'd prefer to go with hocus pocus and Anju is very talented at that, which Tama, that's something you fear, if I'm not mistaken, which intern becomes a problem for you, Kyo. If Tama's too scared, he's not gonna concentrate, which would cause problems for your project that you wouldn't have with Ayame. So really it's for your benefit that we happily take Anju off your hands."

"Please take Anju!"Tamaki cried, "She's frightnening and she's trying to change our project-"

"She's trying to help and put her input in."Kyoya corrected.

"She's saying my facts are wrong." Tamaki yelled.

"Some of your facts were wrong." Kyoya replied dryly.

"What?!" Tamaki retorted.

"Well, there were some facts that you didn't check and some things I think you might have made up, although some of her ideas are questionable." Kyoya stated logically.

"Boys, boys, no need to argue, if it helps you, we will be more than happy to have Anju. What helps you guys, helps us." I smiled. "So, Anju for Ayame?"

"Yes!" Tamaki exclaimed.

"Awesome, see ya guys on Monday!" I severed the conference link between us.

"How did you do that?" Reiko asked surprised.

"Years of practice." I replied, "Years and years of practice."

Tamaki's POV

"What just happened?" I asked Kyoya confused.

"I do not know." He replied just as confused.
