Dance in the Rain

Chapter 36: Death Anniversary

"Amy, Amy?"

"Yes Ally?"

"I can't sleep."

She scooted over in her bed, "Come and join me."

I quickly hopped off of my bed and joined her in her much bigger bed.

"What's wrong Ally?"

"I-I had a bad dream."

She giggled a little, "It's not funny." I defended.

"You know what I do to forget my nightmares?" she asked,

I shook my head, "Well I sing a little happy song until I forget my nightmare."

"What's the happy song?"

"Just anything that makes you happy." She said,

"I don't know."

She sighed, then started to hum a random tune. Amy was really good at singing.

"Happiness is having Ally as my sister, having someone to sing to and be there for. I love Ally." She sang, I smiled at her.

"Did you just make that up?" she nodded her head, "But the great thing about it, is its true."

"I love you too Amy," and then I fell asleep.

Those were one of the good memories I had of Amy. She was pretty smart for a five year old.

It was 8 o' clock in the morning, Delilah had just picked me up. I left Aunt June a note on the kitchen fridge, "Out to visit Amy" I didn't want to explain too much.

"You look great Ally," Delilah said as she glanced at me, she was wearing a white top with white pearls and some dress slacks, she looked professional.

As for me, I was wearing a light pink summer dress and some brown sandals. I had decided to straighten my hair today, just like how it used to be when I was little.

"I guess you could say I'm getting a little more girlier." I admitted, she smiled. "You're becoming a woman." She said, "How are the guys?" she asked after a minute.

"Well," I didn't know what to say. "Dallas and you are still okay right?" she asked, I nodded my head. "We decided friendship is the best thing we can be." I said,

"How about Elliot?"

"I think he's getting the message."

"Austin?"

I sighed and bit my lip. "I honestly don't know. The weirdest thing happened…"

We were finally there, we were at the cemetery. It's been years since I was here, I was only four but I understood so much. I remember my parents crying like crazy, I remember Aunt June comforting them as much as she could but also trying not to cry so much.

We got out of the car and after walking for a good five minutes we stood before her stone. Amy Marie Dawson, Loving Daughter, Sister and Hero. Delilah started to cry and I didn't know what to do.

I hugged Delilah, "I know it's been so long, but I do miss her." She said, and I rubbed her back showing her that I'd be there, that everything would be okay. Everything was okay.

"I love you and I miss you Amy," I whispered, then I dug into my pockets and pulled out a smooth rock with her name on it. "It's a gift from me and the beach." I said, laughing a little.

"The beach is a really beautiful place Amy, I'm sure you would love it there." I said, kneeling down to place it next to her stone. I was surprised to see someone placing orange daises next to the rock, I turned to see Aunt June.

She had a slight smile on her face, "You weren't the only one who loved my daisies." She stated, "Thank you." I said, she just patted shoulder. "She would be proud of you Ally." She said, and I teared up a little.

Austin's P.O.V.

It was 9 o' clock in the morning, Ally said we would talk this morning but she's not home. She went to go visit Amy. I know I shouldn't be upset but I was, I know it's a special day for her sister but I just really needed to talk to Ally.

I heard foot steps coming down the stairs and turned to see Dez, "Good morning!" he said, "Morning." I mumbled.

"What's wrong now?" he asked, "Ally said we'd talk this morning," I stated. He was about to open the fridge, but he read the note on it.

"Be a little more understanding Austin." He said, getting milk and a cereal box. "I know." I said, sighing.

"I was just going to finally tell her." I admitted, "Seriously?" he asked, so surprised. "Yeah."

"I'm proud of you dude!"

"Don't be proud just yet, I haven't told her." I said,

"But you will."

"Yeah but what if I choke and end up not telling her."

"Then you'll regret it forever." He said, making it sound really dramatic.

"Shut up."

"If you don't, she'll just move on and find some other guy to be with." He said, just the thought of that hurt me.

"You're right, I need to tell her." I said, he grinned at me as he dipped his spoon in his bowl of cereal. "Smart idea," he said, starting to eat.

Ally's P.O.V.

"Aunt June? Delilah?"

"Yes?" they both said,

"This is probably a silly question to ask, but what happened to the little boy that Amy saved that one day." I asked,

They both were a little surprised at my question. They were quiet for a minute.

"Honestly Ally, we don't know." Aunt June said, "I guess I just want to know if he's okay and all." I said,

Delilah smiled, "You have such a good heart Ally. You know what I'll research on it, okay?" she said, I nodded my head. "Thank you Delilah," I said, hugging her.

"Well I guess this is goodbye?" she said, "Just for now." I admitted, she nodded her head. "I'll miss you and I'll tell your parents you're doing just fine of course." She said,

"Thank you, that means a lot to me." I said,

"Thank you for taking care of her June," Delilah said, she smiled. "It's nothing, I love Ally as much as you guys love her." She said, and they both hugged.

"Remember I'm always a phone call away," Delilah said, I nodded my head. Before she walked away, I hugged her again. "I love you," I said, "I love you too dear." She said, and then she was gone.

Aunt June looked at the time on her phone, "Oh my, it's almost 1 o' clock. I better hurry home to get ready for work." She said, my eyes suddenly widened.

It was almost the afternoon and I had promised Austin we would talk in the morning.

I kept hoping Austin would be home, but by the time we got home he wasn't home. "Dez, do you know where Austin went?" I asked, he shrugged.

"He just left, he said he would probably be home late." He admitted, I bit my lip with disappointment. Very smooth Ally, you should've remembered.

"Don't worry Ally, he understands." Dez stated, as if he already knew why I was asking about him. "Thanks Dez," I said and quickly went to my room to get some more sleep. Hopefully when I woke up Austin would be home and would be willing to talk about whatever he wanted to talk about.
