Hey guys you don't even know how sorry I am for not updating sooner. I haven't touched this story since before my birthday. So many things have happened between these updates. I can't believe it's been 6 months already. So thank you to everyone being so patient with me and the long awaited update.
Thank you to Musical Skater, Zelda Melda, WolvesRock14, and FangaWolfLover for updating way back in last year.
Musical Skater: I know I answered you in the last chapter, but here's a new one.
Zelda Melda: I know it's kinda obvious and that's the point.
WolvesRock14: Sorry for the wait with this chapter. And one of your theories is probably right.
FangaWolfLover: Maybe its a lot more intricate than that... *moonwalks away with you* Just saying this chapter is complete fluff
Disclaimer: I don't own this, but I do own the fluffy fluff in this chapter. It's actually pretty cute. See you guys at the bottom.
Last time: A-chan: Well in chapter 33, the second round of the contest took place, so everyone sang. Then, in chapter 34:
In front me was a wall dedicated to Carrie, all of them were, but this one was specifically her only. She looked so much like her mother.
Why would she throw away the one thing that can lead her to the truth?
I smiled larger than I think I ever had before. She had fallen into my trap.
Carrie's P.O.V.
I lay at home in the living room watching some crime show rerun that I was half paying attention to. As the flashes came upon the screen, lights from the show, I blankly stared at it, thinking about other things. My phone buzzed in my hands, but I didn't look down at it. Even though the sudden vibration slightly broke me from my reverie, I kept my face towards the TV.
I began to watch the two main detectives walk across the screen to get to where the suspect was hiding. (A/N: I may or may not be watching Law and Order: SVU) Just as the suspect resists arrest and tries to attack one of the detectives, and consequently gets shot, the doorbell rings. I jump at the sudden noise, scaring Muffins who was cuddling with me on the couch.
After holding my hand to my racing heart, I gently pick up the old cat and place her in the place I just was. She meows quietly as I back up, pawing my hand softly. I hold up one finger, as if she'd understand, and turn to the door. Turning the door handle, I don't see anyone. Looking down, I pick up a small envelope with my name written on it.
Looking once more around my yard, I shut the door and hold the envelope close to my chest. Plopping back on the couch, this time next to Muffins, I slide my finger under the flippy part of the envelope. (A/N: I have no idea how to describe it)
A small piece of paper almost gives me a paper cut. Pulling it out, I stare at the familiar handwriting that I grew up looking at; the scrawl of letters on the page.
But the odd thing with this note was that is was a small letter instead of the usual few words. And it read as follows: 'Dear Carrie, you may be wondering why I have been leaving you these notes with cryptic messages. It's because you need to learn the truth about your mother. If you want to know more, write a message to P.O. box 336. I'll respond soon.'
"The truth? What is he talking about?" I ponder aloud. I got a meow in response. Looking over at the old cat, I continue to talk," Well I should probably answer, right? You can't just pique my interest like that and not tell me more."
Standing up, I say, while skipping to my room," Time to write a reply!" Hopping up the stairs, two at a time, I reach my room a bit out of breath. I pull out a half piece of paper and began to write a reply.
'Dear mystery person, I am intrigued by what this 'truth' is and would like to learn more. Also, who are you? I'm only asking b/c you seem to know who I am.'
After reading it aloud and deciding it sounded good, I grabbed an envelope and stuffed the paper inside. On the outside of the envelope, I wrote 'To Mystery Person'. Walking back to the kitchen, I write a note saying I would be going for a walk, excluding the part about me going to the post office.
Throwing on a pair of Converse and a thin coat, I shut the TV off. As I leave, I lock the door and start on my way to the post office.
*Really sorry for not updating sooner transition*
Stephen's P.O.V.
A head of blue hair walks on the other side of the street. Carrie obviously doesn't notice me as I stop to watch her. Cocking my head at her, I watch as the blue haired girl continues walking down the street and around the corner.
Pulling my bag full of books onto my shoulder, I walk after her, leaving the Peaceville Library behind me. Sure, it may seem creepy that I'm following this girl I just met, but I was worries about her.
It just seemed odd that she was going somewhere that was on the outskirts of town when none of our friends' houses were out that way. I tailed her for a good ten minutes when she stopped in front of a building.
'The post office...? What is she doing here?'
I stood outside for a bit longer than I thought and when she started to walk back out, stopping most likely to say good bye to the clerk, I hid. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Carrie didn't seem to notice me, at least that's what it felt like at first.
Until I heard my name. "Stephen?"
Letting out a quiet string of curses, I turn to face the blue haired girl. "Hi Carrie. Fancy seeing you here..." I trail off, looking away from her face.
"You do realize I knew you were following me, right?" Carrie begins to walk away, hands behind her back. Springing up from my spot behind a tree, I run after her. Catching up quickly, I fall into step with her. "W-What are you talking about? I-I wasn't following you. May-"
I stopped talking when Carrie gave me a 'are-you-really-trying-this' look. "Stephen, I saw you when I was walking out. I actually saw you at the library and noticed you had been tailing me. Don't worry, I'm not mad that you followed me."
"You're not?"
"Albeit I am a bit creeped out, I'm not mad. You just wanted to see where I was going. Honestly, I find it kinda cute." Carrie reaches up and ruffles my hair lightly.
'C-Cute?' I could feel my cheeks begin to warm. Usually its the girls that blush, but this time I'm the one. So this is what it feels like. We had already began walking again when I muttered to myself, still blushing slightly," I can see why Lenny likes you so much."
"What was that?" She asked, tilting her head at me cutely. Trying to calm my racing heart, I stutter out," N-Nothing. I was just talking to myself."
She shrugged it off, most likely believing me. "I might be asking too much, but can you keep this a secret?"
It was now my turn to cock my head slightly. "Keep what a secret?" I ask.
"Me being there."
"Why?" We had started to walk back into semi-familiar territory.
"I was just sending someone something and I don't want everyone to worry about me."
"What if I'm worried about you?" I question.
"I already know you worry about me. You're going to get worry lines at a young age. Sometimes you're almost as bad as Lens with the worrying thing." For some reason I felt kind of mad - no jealous - when she mentioned her childhood friend.
'I couldn't be...Right?'
As we continued to walk, my head was swimming in thoughts. I didn't notice, but I ended up walking Carrie all the way back to her house. I ended up accidentally bumping into her, sending my heart racing with the contact. "S-Sorry about that. I wasn't really paying attention to what was happening."
"Tell me about it. I tried to start a conversation about 3 times of the way here and you were just in your own world. It was like you were a zombie, actually," Carrie giggles out. I shrug my shoulders indifferently-well as indifferent as I could make it seem. I felt like I had to leave before I made a complete fool out of myself.
Pointing in the direction of my house, I spoke," I'm gonna go home now. Sis is probably wondering where I am, so bye." Before I left, though, she gave my arm a light pat, saying," Thank you for walking me home."
*Another P.O.V. change*
Carrie's P.O.V.
Stephen's attitude seemed to change and I was a bit confused by it, but I didn't press him about it. After he left me at my house, I went in and sat back on the couch, turning the TV back on to the murder mystery marathon I was watching before I left. The answering machine - it was in the next room, which I could see from my spot on the couch - had a blinking one and would beep every few minutes.
Waiting for a commercial break, I stand up and hit the play button and listen to the message. The female computerized voice began, "One new message. Friday September 19th, 4:56 p.m." I glanced at the clock in the kitchen; 5:28.
The message then continues, but now it's a man's voice," It seems like you are out at the moment, so I hope you hear this when you get back from wherever you are. I have finalized grandma's funeral and who her stuff is going to. I wanted to say that I'll be back by Monday the latest. So see you guys soon."
The message ends leaving a silence in the house. It had been a few good weeks without my father around. Sure, he hadn't been bad in a long while, but that might change when he comes back to the place where it all began.
I don't know what came over me to write the Stephen falling in love with her scene, but i couldn't help it. It seems like the flirt is actually shy... And if you noticed, Carrie didn't notice that she was doing it.
Well I'm going to try and get back on a writing schedule since I have a break next week so I'm hoping I can write some more. As I was writing this chapter, I realized how much I missed doing this.
So please review and/or PM me. I promise the next update won't be six months away. Love you guys and see you next time ~A
