Finally got this chapter out! I'm so sorry for the late update (it's better than usual, but still, I'm ashamed...) I kept trying to make myself write this chapter, but I just never get to it... :( And this chapter turned out to be so much shorter than my usual writing... I'm sorry, I thought of this chapter pretty hard, but this is the best content I can came up with it, so sorry... :(
Anyway, I hope you guys will like it!
I don't own Prince of Tennis just my OCs :)
"Marui-sempai, Marui-sempai," Miyuki said softly as she shook the red-haired boy. "Wake up."
"Huh?" Marui rubbed his eyes slowly in order to readjust to being awake. He was used to wake up early for tennis practice, but not during the summer. He enjoyed sleeping in (or at least until his brothers forced him to get up, because they were bored). "Is it morning already?"
"Yeah," Miyuki nodded lightly. "Thank you for staying overnight, you really didn't have to."
"It's no big deal," Marui smiled. "I didn't have to fight with Akaya about who gets the queen-size bed anyway. So how long do you have to stay here?"
"Um, I'm not really sure," Miyuki replied. "I think the doctor is giving me a check-up today to see how I am doing."
"Hopefully it'll be soon."
"Me too, I'm sick of lying around here," Miyuki said leaning on the ramp behind her. "This room is so boring. I mean just look at its color." She looked up at the ceiling, which was coated with simple white paint as well as the rest of the walls.
"Right, because what people hate about hospitals is that its interior color is so dull," Marui joked while letting out a sigh due to the comment the girl just gave.
"Well, it's part of it. I mean, can't they think of a better color for people to look at when those people have to stay here for weeks, maybe months!" Miyuki reinforced her point.
"I'll talk to nurses about that then," Marui smiled.
"That's all I'm asking for. I just want to bring this to people's attention," Miyuki stated.
"Alright, I'm going to go buy some breakfast; I'm starving," Marui placed his hand on his stomach. "You want something?"
"Nah, I'm okay. The nurse will bring me my breakfast in about half an hour. They're not the best in the world, but hate to be waste," Miyuki shrugged her shoulders.
"Okay, speaking of which, don't forget to take your medicine along with your breakfast," Marui reminded her as he opened the door.
"Why does everyone have to remind me of that? You know I hate that stuff!" Miyuki whined as she let her head fell flat on her pillow.
"I know, that's why I'm reminding you," Marui laughed.
"Oh, Marui-sempai, wait!" Miyuki shouted after she finally remembered something.
"What?" Marui poked his head back into her door. Luckily for her, he was able heard her call. He thought he was hearing things, but he decided to check up on her just in case she was indeed calling his name.
"Would you mind putting me in my wheelchair?" Miyuki said, pointing at her wheelchair. "And push me toward the window, please?"
"Sure," Marui followed her orders completely. Once he was done, Marui knew he just had to ask, "Why do you want this?"
"The scene looks so much better here than just watching it from the bed," Miyuki explained.
"Okay, then, I'm actually leaving this time," Marui started to walk out of the room. "Are you sure you don't need anything else?"
"I'm sure," Miyuki paused for a moment to think if she needed anymore help before the red-hair boy left to go buy his breakfast. "Yeah, I'm sure."
"Alright, see you in a bit."
After about five minutes since Marui had left the room, there was a knock on the door. "That was fast. Maybe Marui-sempai forgot something…?" Miyuki thought since the cafeteria was about a ten minute walk from her room. She was also confused by why he would bother to knock when he knew she would be here. "Come in," Miyuki said without turning around. "That was fast Marui-sempai. Did you get…" She froze when she turned around and saw who was at the door. "You…" was the only word she could get out of her mouth at the end.
"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue? Or you are just simply being rude to your elder again?" Chiharu teased as she walked slowly into the room, which threatened Miyuki as she was invading Miyuki's territory. Her daughters slowly walked behind her.
"Mama, why are we here again? You knew I hate this hospital smell…" Kaede looked around in disgust. "And all the room looks the same, it's hideous!"
"Kaede, shut it," Kotone replied calmly. "Mama has her reasons. Just let her do her thing."
"Mama's girl," Kaede teased.
"Shut it, Kaede."
"Kaede, Kotone! Hush down!" Chiharu barked. "Mama is protecting our family."
"I hate to agree with your daughter but… why are you here?" Miyuki asked after her heart finally returned to a normal pulse. "…In my room."
"To warn you," Chiharu said as she suddenly grabbed the handle on the wheelchair and turned it toward her direction. "Leave Daiki alone," She placed her hand on Miyuki's chin to force Miyuki looked at her while she emphasized each word. "That family of yours is no more."
"I never said I wanted him back," Miyuki said with a strong hint of anger as she shook her face away from Chiharu's grip.
"Don't play innocent with me!" Chiharu grabbed Miyuki's hair so she wouldn't escape Chiharu's glare like last time.
"What? You think just because you destroy my family; I'm ought to destroy yours?" Miyuki bit back, no longer had that pain and fear in her heart.
"Ah! Mama, you're right! She's out to get us!" Kaede shrieked.
"That's why we are here," Kotone pushed Kaede away and walked up to Miyuki as well. "To prevent that, idiot." She said that last part as she stared back at her sister.
"You knew?" Kaede asked in surprise.
"Why else would mother bring us back to this place?" Kotone asked. "Use your brain sometime, would you?" She whispered the last part, mostly to herself.
"I'm not as pathetic as you to do something that low," Miyuki looked at Kotone.
"You…!"
"That's why you're here, right?" Miyuki asked. "To kick whatever crap that was left from my broken family so that your family will continue to shine," Miyuki said in monotone. "Although that shine… I doubt it's much of a pleasing color." She smirked while looking out the window.
"How dare you!" Kotone suddenly shouted, losing her cool composure. She then grabbed Miyuki's shoulder and pushed her down, causing her to fall off of her chair. "Don't make my family sound like that hideous one you had!"
Miyuki bit her bottom lip to prevent herself from screaming from the pain caused by the sudden fall. "The father is the same…" Miyuki said slowly while grabbing the wheel of her chair to get into a more comfortable position, taking a short breathe every now and then. "Your family is already tinted…"
"You little…!" Kotone gritted her teeth and approached Miyuki before she was stopped by her mother, placing a hand in front of her. "Mother…" She then watched Chiharu walked up Miyuki and bent down to her level.
"Heh, who knew behind that sweet face was this much venom?" Chiharu smirked, causing Miyuki to frown in annoyance, before continuing. "Listen, kid, don't get all confident thinking your daddy is coming back. Daiki couldn't care less of you, even now. You're lucky he even remember your name. He only showed some concern toward you now because you had to suddenly pop out of his life, our lives."
"Ma'am, I think you have some hearing issue," Miyuki spoke calmly. "I told you, I don't want him back. I don't need him to come back just so he can leave again."
"Mama, this is sad," Kotone sighed, walking up to Chiharu and placing a hand on her shoulder. "She doesn't even know what love is anymore."
When Miyuki heard that, she quickly bit her lower lip again and started to shake a little. Due to that comment, she started to remember her question to Shiraishi wondering if she was unlovable. She tried to calm herself down by reminding herself the answer the Shitenhoji team gave her, that she was indeed loved by them, no matter what.
"Miyuki, I know you said you didn't want anything, but I brought you some milk anyway," Marui said as he walked into the room while staring at the bottle of milk in his hand. "Help you don't… Miyuki! What happened? Are you okay? Nurse! Please come in!" Marui ran and sat down next to Miyuki in panic.
"Oh my, what happened?" the nurse asked in shock from what she saw when she entered the room. "Please pull her up," the nurse ordered after she secured Miyuki's legs to ensure they would not move as Marui placed her back into the wheelchair. "Hayashi-san, what happened?"
Marui looked at his friend worriedly after she stayed in the same position, head lowered and hands tied together, for what seemed like eternity. Miyuki eventually raised her head and gave them a light smiled. "I slipped out of the chair, clumsy me, huh? Haha."
"Well, please be more careful in the future, Hayashi-san," the nurse warned. "The doctor will be in the room in about two hours to check-up on you. I will mention this incident to him."
"Yes, thank you," Miyuki bowed her head in understanding as she watched the nurse left the room.
Before anyone could say a word, a phone started to ring. It turned out to be Chiharu's as she reached into her purse and took out her phone. "Yes? Ah, anata, no, the girls and I were just shopping. Yes, yes, we'll be home soon. Bye," Chiharu then hang up her phone and placed it back into her purse. "You heard daddy. We're leaving," she ordered before walking up to Miyuki and whispered, "Don't forget what I have said, you pathetic mistake."
"Yes, mama," Kotone said in monotone before dragging her sister away.
"So," Marui asked awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. "What was that about…?"
"What can I say? I'm a klutz," Miyuki simply replied.
"That's not what I meant. Who are those three?" Marui asked, looking at the door that the trio went through a few seconds ago.
"Marui-sempai, am I unlovable?" Miyuki asked while stilled looking down on the ground.
"What?" Marui replied in surprise, wondering what caused the girl to suddenly ask that question. "Of course not, I mean just look at all the friends who are here to support you."
"That's not what I meant," Miyuki said softly.
"Oh…" Marui rubbed the back of his neck, not sure what she meant. "Why did you suddenly asked?"
"Um…" Miyuki shut her eyes, now regretting asking the question. "The truth is…"
"So that's why you froze when you saw that man," Marui concluded once Miyuki finished the story.
"What should I do, Marui-sempai? I want to forgive him, but when I see him… I just…" Miyuki tightened her fists, thinking how she acted when she saw her father with his new family.
"Well, I never had to deal with this kind of situation before, but…" Marui paused to gather his thought. "Why bother apologize to someone who you don't even want in your life? If you're happy with what you got now, why bother hang up on the past? What? Did I say something wrong?" Marui asked when he looked at Miyuki and saw her smile gently.
"No," Miyuki shook her head. "Thank you. That really helps."
