I do not own Power Rangers SPD. Disney does. I do not own Operation Overdrive. Saban Enterprise does.
The only thing I do own is my character Emma.
I was sitting in the lounge by myself skimming my History book. All the other rangers had gone to bed, but because of my nap, I wasn't tired. I stopped at the Content page. There was a new chapter in the book called "A Change in History." It was the last chapter in the book. I quickly closed my book and closed my eyes. Everything here seemed to be normal, yet I have a chapter in the history book about when I ended up becoming evil. Like I needed a reminder in that. I decided to flip through the first few pages. I saw the title page wit Dr. Thomas Oliver as the author. The next page was the dedication page.
This Book is dedicated to my fellow Rangers: Jason Scott, Kimberly Hart, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan and Billy Cranston. Also to Adam Park, Rocky Desanto, Aisha Campbell, Kathrine Hillard, Tayna Sloan, Justin Stewart, Connor Knight, Ethan James, Kira Ford and Trent Mercer. To Theodore Johnson, TJ, for taking over as Turbo Ranger.
A Special thanks to Hayley Ziktor, for all your help.
And lastly, to a special friend, Emily Richardson, Emma, in hope that she finds the real meaning of being a Power Ranger.
I couldn't help but smile.
"Everything alright, Cadet?" I jumped at the sound of Cruger behind me. "Why don't you come on patrol with me?" Cruger offered.
"Sure." I got to my feet and went to put my book away and grab my morpher. I joined Cruger and we left the SPD Base and started patrol. "Do you usually do patrols like this Commander?"
"I thought the Rangers could use some sleep." Cruger stated. "What is on your mind?"
"There are a few things that I can't stop thinking about." I said simply. "Everything looks like the same as when I left, yet History has changed."
"Change in history?" Cruger asked. "Being in different years may make you feel as though something should be different."
"Actually Commander..." I trailed off. "In 2004, when I was with the Dino Thunder Rangers. I was captured by Mesagog and was turned evil. Now there is a chapter in my history book titled, A Change in History." I paused. "It took six rangers, one who was a 4th generation ranger, to save me." I sighed. "Tommy had to call in reinforcements to break Mesagog's hold on me." I paused again. "That's what I mean."
"Really?"
"Yeah..." I sighed. "You can break an evil spell, but when you're born evil, you stay evil."
"Where is all this coming from cadet?" Cruger asked, stopping.
"I made many friends, a few enemies, and…" I paused. "I was born evil. You can't stop that."
"Cadet." Cruger said as we started walking again. "Do you know why Kat and I gave you the morpher to become the white ranger?"
"You thought I was ready."
"But why the White Ranger? You could have been the green ranger."
"The first girl in green." I said slowly. "Tommy was the white ranger. He was given the White Ranger suit that was made out of white light that made it impossible for him to become evil." I paused. "But Trent was also the White Ranger, but Mesogog had control over him for a slight time." I looked at Cruger. "Why the White Ranger?"
"White means good. Pure."
"And Black is the color of evil, but Zack, Adam, Tommy and Will weren't evil." I pointed out. "Why me?" I asked. "Out of everyone you could have chosen to join B-Squad…why did you choose me?"
"You came when the rangers needed a new ranger. You are a fast learner, and you were willing to help." I smiled.
"Commander." I suddenly remembered something.
"Yes Cadet?"
"The Time Traveler surrendered, right?"
"Yes, we have him in for questioning."
"Don't worry about him. He was saving me." I said. I noticed that Cruger was confused. "I know it sounds weird, but it's true. The Dark Wizard was planning on making me evil. The Dark Wizard hired the Time Traveler to take the other rangers away so the Dark Wizard had no trouble taking me." I paused. "I told the Time Traveler to surrender. He's reason I'm not evil. He deserves a short sentence."
"And you think he's innocent?"
"If you look at it in my perspective, he didn't kidnap me because he wanted to; he kidnapped me to save me." I paused. "Plus, I need to figure out how he connects to my dream."
"What do you mean?"
"I had the dream again while I was taking my nap earlier, about my parents abandoning me. But this time, it was slightly different. It wasn't my parents. It was a different couple disguised as my parents." I paused. "The Time Traveler said he saved me once before and what if that was what he was getting at?" I looked at Cruger. "I need to talk to him."
"You can talk to him tomorrow." Cruger said. "We need to finish our patrol and get some sleep." Cruger stated. I don't think I can sleep. There is so much that needed to get done. Like, talk to the Time Traveler; figure out this dream of mine once and for all, and finish up some late math homework. I'll need some espresso and then I can get started.
Cruger and I finished the patrol. I went to the lounge and got an espresso. First I had to go find the Time Traveler and talk to him. I've had a brief tour of SPD Base when I first started, but finding where the Time Traveler was, will be interesting. Surprisingly, I found him, and rather quickly, I might add.
"Time Traveler." I said, making my way over to his cellar. "You followed your end of the bargain."
"And you better follow yours."
"I've already talked to Commander Cruger." I said. "I'm here to talk to you about something you said in 2004." The Time Traveler looked at me. "When you said you've saved me once before, you meant when I was four years old, don't you?"
"So you know."
"If you mean I know about you actually being an average person who took me from my family and put me in me in foster care as protection from my dad, then yes, I know." The Time Traveler did not speak for a while. He just sat in silence. "Well, I'm waiting."
"Yes…that was me." The Time Traveler stated. "However, there is something about your life you don't know."
"My parents are evil, I've got magical powers and I've been in foster homes since I was four. What don't I know?"
"The Dark Wizard is not your father."
"What?" I was taken aback.
"Are you sure you're ready to handle this?"
"I'm a ranger. I can handle anything."
"Your real father was Michael Richardson. Your mom was Julie Richardson. They got married in 2008. Michael died in a car crash in 2013. You were only a year old. The Dark Wizard then turned your mom evil and they got married in 2014. She died a year in a half later. That is when I took you from the Dark Wizard and put you in foster home. Everything up to that point is a lie.
"What about my powers?" I asked. "Are those a lie too?"
"You were born with your powers." The Time Traveler said. "And this is why, I believe, the Dark Wizard couldn't make you evil at the same time as your mom."
"The whole meteor thing, right?"
"Yes." The Time Traveler chuckled.
"One last question before I leave." I paused. "Who are you?"
"You are not ready."
"Again…I am a ranger. I've got to be ready for anything."
"Are you sure?" The Time Traveler asked. "Knowing the truth may harm you."
"Who are you?" I asked. "Don't make me ask again."
"You are a true Power Ranger, Emma." I froze. The Time Traveler said something that I couldn't hear and the Time Traveler was no more.
"J-Jason?" I asked quickly. I was confused. He nodded.
"Hello Emma." Jason said. "It's nice to see you again."
"You're Jason Scott. First Red Ranger."
"Yes, now keep your voice down." Jason said.
"I'm so confused." I leaned up against the wall behind me. "You're a Power Ranger. You can't be evil."
"I thought you said you were ready to know who I was." Jason asked.
"So did I." I sat down. "I didn't think I would know who you were." I sighed. "Why you?"
"Julie was my cousin. We were, surprisingly, really close. Like a brother and sister." Jason started. "When she got married, I was in her wedding. When she got pregnant with you, I was asked to be your godfather. I know something was wrong when your dad died and your mom got re-married shortly afterwards." Jason paused. "I knew, when your mom died, that I had to save you from the Dark Wizard. So my wife and I started planning and wrote a letter. Then we took you away, late one night."
"Why didn't you just keep me? We were…I mean, are…family. It would have worked."
"The Dark Wizard knows who I am. He would have found you. It was better for you and my family."
"And the whole Time Traveler thing? You're wanted!"
"A little help from an old friend." Jason said simply. "It's a fake profile. None of it…well almost none of it, is true."
"Are we seriously related?"
"2nd cousins. Yes."
"You said on old friend helped you…Was it Billy?"
"Yes." Jason said slowly. I sighed. "And Tommy, Adam and Kim." I groaned.
"Why?" I asked.
"They know you."
"But they didn't when we first left." I pointed out.
"In all honesty, Kim is a new addition to the help."
"Curse you changing history." I said with a yawn.
"You should get some sleep Emma. I'll be here tomorrow."
"No. I want to stay." I said. "This way I know what's going on. You have family, don't you?"
"Yes. Remember Emily?" I nodded. "We got married and had two beautiful kids. Morgan and Kyle." I smiled.
"And they're ok with you being gone over Thanksgiving AND Christmas?"
"They knew I had to do this." Jason said. "Besides, me and Emily already had their gifts picked out before I left."
"I bet they want you home." I said slowly. "I'm going to get you out of there Jason. I promise."
"Emma, I kidnapped you."
"No, you saved me. They can't hold you accountable for that." I smiled slightly. "Besides, you're family and I know for a fact that your kids need you, not matter how old they are." I sighed. "Don't make them grow up without you. If you stay here, you'll miss a lot and I don't want to be accountable for that."
"You won't be." Jason said.
"I'm going to get my math book." I told Jason. "I'll be right back." I got to my feet and quickly headed to my bedroom and grabbed my math stuff before leaving; I grabbed my six envelopes addressed to my fellow rangers, Kat and Commander Cruger. I quietly entered each of the rangers' rooms and left the envelopes somewhere they could see it. After distributing the four envelopes to the rangers, I stuck Cruger's and Kat's into my math book and headed back to the cell that Jason was being held in. "I'm back." I said sitting down on the floor. I opened my math book and started to work.
"You have math homework?" Jason asked. "We haven't even been home for 24 hours." I smiled, not looking up.
"I went to class today. We reviewed what I learned 14 weeks again and this was the homework from 14 weeks ago." I went to work, quietly, on my homework.
"It's really late, so this better be important." A man said over the phone.
"He's back." Another man said.
"What? Are you sure?"
"Yes, he's back…and by the looks of things, he may be in trouble."
"Have you gotten a hold of anyone else?"
"Of course, who do you think I am Tommy?"
"Sorry Billy. What did Adam say?"
"He's going to get a hold of Rocky, Aisha and…" Billy started.
"Billy, what do you think we're going to do?" A woman sat up next to Tommy.
"Save Jason."
"Save Jason?" Tommy said. "He's with the rangers."
"Yeah. So?"
"Emma's there." The girl said to Tommy.
"Kim's right." Tommy told Billy over the phone. "Emma's there."
"What do you think we should do?" Billy asked.
"Emma's going to need us." Tommy said.
"How do you figure?" Billy asked.
"We're going to go help Jason. If Emma doesn't know…"
"I bet she does." Kim said.
"The SPD rangers aren't going to just let Jason go, innocent or not. He took Emma for 14 weeks."
"So she'll need support?" Billy asked.
"Yes."
"Well, Adam already called Rocky, Aisha, Carlos and Tanya." Billy stated.
"We'll call Trini, Zack, TJ, Andros, and Zhane."
"Alright, I'll get ahold of Justin, Leo, and Damon."
"Leo and Damon will get ahold of each other if you just call one of them."
"Right. We'll meet up tomorrow afternoon and discuss the plan?"
"Sounds good. Let the others known." Tommy said as he hung up the phone.
"Well?" Kim asked after Tommy hung up of the phone.
"We're going to go help Jason. We're also going to support Emma. This is all a crazy mess." Tommy said. Kim nodded in agreement. "We've got work to do tomorrow. We'd better get some sleep."
The next morning, Bridge, Z, Sky and Syd were in the lounge, reading through their envelopes.
"Listen to this." Sky said. "I can't believe I'm still not home. It's 1996 and I just made enemies with the pink and yellow rangers. They called me evil and the advice I missed the most was yours, Sky. Something about 'You're thinking about this too much. We need you to focus', made me miss you and your bossiness."
"Wow Sky…that is 100% accurate. You would say that." Syd joked.
"Why do we even have these?" Z wondered.
"I guess it was Emma's way of talking to us when we weren't there." Bridge stated.
"You know, it's almost 10. Where is Emma?" Syd wondered. Sky got up off the couch and walked over to my door. He knocked on my door. The door opened and Sky peered in. He turned towards the other rangers.
"She's gone." Syd, Bridge, and Z stood up and the four rangers went straight to the command center.
"Commander. Kat. Emma's missing." Sky informed. Cruger looked at Kat, then to the rangers.
"I think I know where she is." Cruger said. "Follow me." Cruger left the command center with Kat and the rangers behind him. Cruger headed straight towards the confinement cellars. The six of them saw me, fast asleep on the floor, with my open math book, next to Time Travelers cell. "Cadet Richardson." Cruger's voice jolted me awake. "I thought I told you that this could wait until the morning."
"I was ready last night." I said, closing my math book. I gathered my stuff and stood up. "The Time Traveler isn't real." This made Sky, Z, Bridge and Syd, confused. "He saved me from the Dark Wizard. Twice."
"Emma, he kidnapped you." Z said. I smiled and shook my head.
"No. He saved me. His real identity is Jason Scott. The first red ranger and my godfather." Cruger, Kat and the rangers looked inside, but they only saw the Time Traveler. I looked in and noticed Jason had transformed back into the Time Traveler sometime during the night.
"No time for games Emma." Sky said.
"I'm serious." I said sternly. "If you don't believe me, contact the planets he's so called wanted on."
"How did you know?" Kat said. "I said nothing about that before you went back in time."
"Go ahead and check. They won't know what, or who, you're talking about." I walked past the rangers and headed to the command center, leaving Cruger and Kat their envelopes before heading to my room.
I sat on my bed doing some more of my math when Z entered. I looked up. Z sat down next to me.
"I feel like you wrote everyone your whole adventure." Z said. I didn't say anything. I shut my math book and grabbed my journal.
"This is my whole adventure. From the day I disappeared to, almost, the last day." I sighed, turning the journal in my hands.
"Is there something you're not telling us?" Z asked calmly. "You can tell me."
"You won't be mad?"
"Mad?" Z asked. "Why would I be mad?" I opened my journal and turned to a date in my book.
"There was this moment, while I was with the rangers, where I didn't want to come home." I paused. "Actually…I wanted to stay there because I was finally a regular teen." I paused again. "But I couldn't stay because I always had to leave with the Time Traveler." I looked down at my journal and started reading.
"Zordon reached us and said that one of Zedd's Monsters was attacking Angel Grove. We soon found out that Jason, Trini and Zack were hypnotized by the Zedd Waves. Tommy was worried for his teammates. At the same time, I was wondering if Sky, Syd, Bridge and Z were worried about me."
"The day that I wrote this, Kim found it wide open on the floor. She read it and we kind of had a discussion. I said things like do they care enough to worry about me? I feel like they're using me. I called myself a terrible person. I didn't want to come back here because I love being with Kim, Tommy, Zack, Trini, Jason, and Billy." I sighed. "But then I said something I truly regret." I turned so I couldn't see Z's face. "I told Kim that I didn't care about my fellow rangers."
"Emma…" Z said slowly. "I'm not mad." Z said. "But I am confused. Why didn't you think we would be worried about you?"
"Our fight before I left." I said simply. "It wasn't the best time to leave."
"Or maybe it was." I looked at Z confused. "Getting away from here was probably a good thing for you. You've learned a lot."
"Yeah, I did."
"And you even missed Sky's advice. I didn't think that was even possible." I chuckled.
"When you're gone, you start missing the things that you didn't like when you were there." I pointed out. "I missed everyone and everything." I smiled. "Including Sky and his bossiness."
"I honestly never thought I'd miss Sky's advice."
"Well, neither did I, but I did." I chuckled.
"Welcome back."
