Chapter 36: Nightmare's Recollections:

"You have my strong pledge for expectation, Izo. Don't test your luck." said Joshua as he sat at his sofa peering weakly into the poisonous void in irritation; his fingers drummed the arms of the sofa as he looked up slightly at the GM. Izo narrowed his eyes at him as Joshua put in "How do you dissent to your deeds?"

Brayson shook his head as he watched Izo icily locked eyes with his old friend, he hated Izo so much because of the hardship he and Joshua had to go through from Izo and Rei, even Joshua's half brother Ayumu. Izo chuckled aloofly as he replied, "I did what I had to. He had poor judgment compared to you Joshua, he would have been erased with the truth stuck with him…"

Joshua pounded his fist into the sofa as he glared at Izo "Don't you spur my brother, Izo. Why would you in all the people here attack that pact-" suddenly a lurid cough erupted from Joshua that he had to hold his throat and rub it. By looking into his dulling lavender eyes, Brayson felt sorry for all the stress he had, the reason he had to help his old friend.

"He attacked me first," coldly stated Izo while his maroon eyes flashed darkly, "Ayumu is as naïve as you described him before the Reaper's Game. You might be more pleased with that."

Joshua half closed his eyes and sighed, he croaked, "Yes, I am Izo. For once I am…"

Izo stood up and blinked at Joshua "I will tend to the next mission, this one will likely erase the whelps." Brayson cringed as he watched his bluish haired comrade leave the room, he watched him go as he brushed his jet black and purple streaked hair down.

His almost white eyes flickered back to the Composer who was busy with spying on players; most likely he wanted to be alone for now. And Brayson would oblige to that.

As Brayson left the room, Joshua sighed. He got up and retreated to his deeper quarters that only Joshua knew of; when he went down the stairs he made sure he put on security so Brayson couldn't find him. The only thing on his mind was the nightmares he had over the last few days.

After a long time he reached the chamber he hid. By knocking in a combination of knock, he saw the sturdy doors open. The knocks consisted of making sounds of spelling Ayumu's name. He entered quietly and the door closed.

Inside was a dusty room that had many selves and a old desk, that had a photo frame on it with the picture intact. When he sat down on the rough chair he looked at the picture; Joshua and Ayumu were in it with their parents. Joshua was 9 at the time while Ayumu was 8 and a half.

Joshua was holding onto his mother's hand while Ayumu was clinging to his mother's periwinkle blue and emerald green dress, Ayumu's mom had long dirty blonde hair that was in a bun while her long bangs draped over her shoulder and her pistachio green eyes almost twinkled. Joshua's mom had curly ash blonde hair with the same lavender eyes as Joshua; she wore a dull dark grey skirt with a white blouse while a bandana was worn over her hair. Finally, Ayumu's and Joshua's father. Their father had almost gleaming golden scraggly hair with the most lurid blue green eyes you ever seen; he wore a long black-sleeved shirt with a strippy dull purple vest. He wore knee long shorts that were black as well.

Joshua sighed sadly; he slowly reached for the photo and brought it closer. He missed Ayumu.

After putting the photo back he laid his head on the desk and closed his eyes.

The nightmare came back.

Joshua was 15 at the time while Ayumu was 14 and a half. He hugged Ayumu hard as they shut their eyes even though Ayumu was blind so it made no difference, Ayumu had wandered onto the road because he thought he sensed something there and Joshua had no choice but to protect him.

A loud shriek sounded as the bus lost its wheel from the sudden veer and spun around out of control. Ayumu let out a whimper as he whispered franticly "Josh! What's happening? Tell me what you see?"

Joshua had to open his lavender eyes and watched in horror as Ayumu's mother who was trapped by a fallen tree because of the heavy rain they were having, Joshua's mom and their father tried to free her while the bus headed for them. Then a loud union scream from their parents sounded before a sickening thud. Silence followed. Joshua opened his mouth in a gap and gawked at the scene.

Ayumu whimpered again and whispered, "Josh! What happened? I can't sense mom, or dad, or aunty anymore." a shrill sob came from him "Please! Tell me Josh!" Joshua only shook his head and hugged Ayumu tighter; he couldn't say it, not to Ayumu at all. Ayumu wasn't ready for the information yet; he had to wait until he could take it easily.

"Josh?" said Ayumu as Joshua took his hand and guided him to their parents, police started to swarm into the place while Joshua ignored them. Ayumu had to know the truth up close, and they had to say goodbye to them for the last time. It pained Joshua to do it.

One policeman barged their path and raised his hand up "This scene is private for you pedestrians. A bloodbath has happened to those people-"

Joshua angrily shook his head while his scraggly hair whipped around, "Those 'people' are our parents! Move! Let us through now!" the policeman looked hesitant as Joshua jerked a bit forward and shouted "Let us through NOW!" The policeman sighed and moved away from the half brothers, sadly Joshua guided his blind half brother to where the blood was getting washed away by the rain.

When they were closer to their parents, Joshua felt Ayumu let go of his hand. He turned to see Ayumu kneeling down and using his index finger he put it in a puddle of scarlet blood, for a while he kept it in there before he looked up at Joshua "What is this Josh? I can't understand what it is."

Ayumu was left hanging on the question as Joshua hoisted him up by the arms, and grabbed his hand again that had blood on it. When they reached the bus Joshua stared in horror, their bodies were all sprawled and lopsided and broken. For the first time in his life he was glad Ayumu was blind.

They stood there a while until Ayumu hung his head and mumbled, "They're here, but why can't I sense them?"

"They're dead Ayumu," choked Joshua as sorrow filled his voice, "They're dead, that's why you can't sense them." Right away Ayumu let out a sob "Nix!? Nix, nix, nix!?" then he ran from Joshua's side to the bodies and fell next to his mother "Mom? You can't be dead… Nix! Please…" Joshua closed his eyes as Ayumu laid his head down on her body and wept shrilly.

The whole area changed into darkness and shifted into a different scene.

Joshua never saw this part of the nightmare before.

Ayumu was walking down the street and watched everyone who passed, whenever someone said hi he said hello back in a cheerful shrill.

But as he started to run he muttered, "Why can't I have a normal brother?"

When he walked for a long time, he found a bench and sat down. For a while he watched other people he half closed his eyes in sadness. Suddenly he felt strange, Ayumu looked around in surprise as he felt the need to go somewhere. So he got up and began to follow along the streets until he halted at a dark alleyway.

Joshua who was watching the scene yelled in horror "No! Don't go in there."

But the Ayumu in the dream couldn't hear him as he went in, Ayumu gasped aloud as his hand touched the cold slimy wall "What am I doing? I shouldn't go in here. What will Josh think?" he froze and slowly narrowed his eyes "Hmm? Why should he care? What he doesn't know won't kill him."

Again he ventured into the dark alleyway. Grime started to stick to his shoes that he paused to shake his foot, with another shake of his foot he growled "Stupid alleyway…"

An eerie wind hit his face that he shielded himself and fell down. As he sat there he pondered what was that. He felt the walls as he struggled to get up; Ayumu yelped as he slipped on grime and landed on his back. Closing his eyes he growled in irritation "Why was I born blind?"

Ayumu had a hard time getting to his feet before he wandered further into a dead end. As he stared sightlessly at the wall he heard someone speak "All alone. How sad." Looking for the source of the voice Ayumu turned his head wildly as he walked around "W-w-who's there? S-show yourself."

"If you say so." at once Ayumu was pushed against a wall by his neck as a dark figure held them there, he struggled wildly as he yelled, "Let me go! Let me go!" the figure chuckled darkly as Ayumu squirmed in his hold and shrieked "Please! Let me go… Why are you doing this?"

"We just need some more contestants for a game," explained the figure as Ayumu whimpered, "You must understand the situation. Now hold still!"

'What does he mean by that!?' thought Ayumu as he started to try and free himself, 'I can't allow him do whatever he's doing. Nix…' suddenly he heard a clinking noise as Ayumu sensed it was nearby his ear 'Gun!'. Instantly he started to wiggle and shrilly yelled out "Joshua! Joshua, help me! Help! Help! He-"

Cold metal met his temple and then a dreadful pain impaled the side of his head. Joshua watched in horror as Ayumu's pewter eyes rolled back and he toppled down, his younger half brother limply lay there as blood started to gush out of his head.

Joshua looked away as Ayumu's blood mottled and dappled the grimy ground, he felt sick watching the scene as he heard Ayumu think 'Is this death? Blood… Joshua… Help me…'

The scraggly ash blond haired boy's head jerked up as he looked around wildly, Joshua wheezed loudly as he felt suddenly light headed. He got up and tried to walk around but he moved in a teeter, his mind whirled as random and logical thoughts ran through his head. Pain started to buzz in his head and his vision began to blur.

His eyes rolled back and he toppled down.
