Chapter 35: Danger

JJ eyes flew up at the door when she heard loud voices on the other side. She heard footsteps nearing the door quickly, and her heartbeat sped up fast. She knew they intended to kill her. There wasn't a chance that she would make it out alive. She knew that, and a part of her was trying to find peace with it. But the biggest part of her was afraid and angry. She couldn't leave her daughter without two parents. JJ knew from her own experience how hard it was to live without them. To grow up without your family and not being able to spend the most important moments with them. She couldn't let that happened. She didn't want Lucy to have to deal with the same void, she had lived with most of her life. She was too young, too fragile.

The door to the dark room opened and showed a man she hadn't seen before. He had a muscular build and looked like a soldier. He approached her as she squirmed in the chair. She was fighting with everything she had, but it just didn't work. ''Let me go!'' she murmured through the cloth on her mouth.

The man cut the restraints and pulled her out of the chair, her knees weak as she was forced onto her feet. She was dizzy and the darkness claimed her sight. He put on new restraints with her hands behind her back, so she had no way to fight. He then led her out of the room and into the connecting space. It was big and empty. But she recognized three faces. One, she knew from a long time ago. It was ADA Joel Austen. She had run into him when she worked as a lawyer. And the other two faces sickened her the most. It was Anthony Hall and Jacob Murray. She couldn't even look into the eyes of Anthony as he stared back at her with a smirk on his face. If she had a gun, she knew she would've shot him in that very spot. The urge was overwhelming her and she never expected to feel so much hatred for everyone. Deep down she always believed she wouldn't be capable of murder, but that moment proved her wrong and it scared her.

''Let's take her outside! It's time.'' Murray ordered. He made a head start and walked towards a door, he opened it quickly and stepped outside.

JJ was pulled outside where she immediately saw the familiar car of her uncle. He was leaning against the drivers' side with worry written all over his face. Her heart sank to her feet as the men approached him. Something was very wrong. There was no other reason for him to be there. He had to be involved somehow.

Tom stepped towards Murray with the box of evidence. He had actually stolen evidence from the police, which went against everything he believed in. But he would do anything to keep JJ safe. It was the price he had to pay for his mistakes. ''Where is she?''

Murray moved to the side so Tom could look at his niece. ''Give me the evidence and I will let her go.''

''No, we do it at the same time!'' Tom ordered. He wasn't stupid.

''Let her go!'' Murray said simply. ''Come on!''

JJ felt the restraints fall off her wrists, and she immediately made a run towards her uncle. When she was halfway he tossed the evidence to the other side and jumped in his car. For a moment, JJ thought he would drive away but when she heard the sound of a gunshot she quickly realized they were never supposed to make it out alive.

Tom drove around JJ as he kept his head low and stopped next to her so she could jump into the passengers' side. ''Get in!'' he yelled as more shots were fired at them. Two shots shattered the windows, and another went right by him and JJ.

When JJ was in the car he sped off, but when he was only a few seconds away, he realized they had shot the wheels. So he stopped in front of another abandoned warehouse and took out his own gun. ''We have to get out!'' he yelled at JJ, who seemed to be in complete shock.

JJ jumped out of the car and followed Tom inside the building. ''What the hell is going on?'' she asked in fear. ''How did you find me? What do you have to do with those people?''

He decided to ignore her as they moved further into the building. He put his back against the wall, JJ doing the same thing. He peaked around the corner and saw the next space was empty as well. He was about to move when he felt himself fall to the ground.

JJ tackled him and took a hold of his gun within seconds. She pointed it at him as he got up from the ground. ''We're not going anywhere until you tell me the truth!'' she croaked out. ''How? Why?''

''JJ, this isn't the time!'' Tom whispered, knowing they would know exactly where they were hiding if he talked to loud. ''They're going to kill us if we don't move right now!''

She kept the gun pointed at him. She wasn't about to give him control. She just didn't trust him anymore. ''Give me your phone!''

He took his phone from his pocket and handed it to her. He was about to say something when they heard voices coming from the other side.

JJ put the gun in her jeans and pulled him with her. She had no idea where they were or where she was supposed to go. Outside, she only noticed that they were at a large abandoned property with several abandoned buildings.

They reached another door and silently ran outside. It was dark so they had an advantage to hide. JJ ran across the lot with Tom by her side before they both hid behind a crumbled wall. She pulled the phone from her pocket and dialed the number she knew by heart. She waited for the beeps and felt her heart beat faster when she heard breathing from the other side.

Hotch was speeding through the empty streets outside of city. He had followed Tom but quickly lost his trail, so he had been driving around while the team and a SWAT team had joined him for what seemed to be nothing. But when he heard his phone, he picked it up quickly and put it to his ear. ''Hello? Tom? JJ?'' he asked in despair.

JJ felt the comfort wash over her at the sound of his voice. ''Aaron?'' she cried out. ''They're trying to kill us. You have to come.'' she begged. ''I don't think we're going to make it.''

''JJ, I need you to hold on!'' he encouraged. ''I am going to put you on hold for a sec so I can have my tech trace your call. Hold on!''

She was about to say something when his voice disappeared. She clutched the phone with her hand and kept it at her ear.

Hotch quickly dialed Garcia and she immediately picked up. ''Garcia, I need you to track Tom Murphy's cellphone. JJ is free but she is in danger.''

''Of course, sir!'' Garcia said quickly as she started typing away at her screen. It only took her one minute before she had the address. ''I just sent you and the rest of the team coordinates. Good luck, sir!''

''Thank you, Garcia!'' he breathed out. He quickly ended the call with her and returned to his call with JJ. ''JJ, I have the address. We're on our way!''

Tom was listening to the conversation JJ was having with Hotch when he heard footsteps approaching them. ''JJ, we have to run. Now!'' he whispered in fear.

''Aaron, I have to go!'' she said in despair as she pulled out her gun. She got up and dropped the phone to the ground. She peeked over the wall and shot at the man who was getting. He fell to the ground and didn't move.

JJ and Tom ran off to find another place to hide when the voices were coming closer. They disappeared into the darkness as the shots were fired, and Hotch was listening on the other end of the line, praying that they got away.
