Chapter 35
Holy city: Part II
Aggression
...
"Hah, Nebula collapsed already?!" The eighth angel smirked, pointing at the grey-haired. "He's always like that."
"Just stop criticising for a while," the ninth angel groaned, punching him to the ground. "You're never satisfied! Thanks to him, we were able to win that war!"
The tenth angel walked in, staring at the crowd with an annoyed expression.
The ten angels sat down together.
Then, the tenth angel clapped his hands twice, and everyone woke up.
"Ah, Lune, you're here..." Ange muttered and sat down properly.
"Hahah," the eighth angel smirked, pointing at him. "Our cute archangel has been taking a nap!"
"Show some respect, Locus!" The ninth angel, a female angel shouted, punching him. She gritted her teeth. "Your insolence is unforgivable!"
"Now, now," Varitita sighed. "Don't fight like children, eyesores! Leave him be, Madera."
"S... Sorry..."
Ange smiled. "Leave them, Varitita. You're way too strict. They've been through a lot..."
The grey-haired, also called Nebula, sat down, yawning. "Hah, what happened?"
"You died..."
"Oh, great..."
Locus started laughing. Madera punched him, smiling nervously. "Asshole..."
Ange stood up. He walked toward Satan. Satan stared at him. Ange's outfit was different. He wasn't like the other heavily armoured angels with a hundred wings. He looked just like a normal human... It was heart-warming, for some reason.
Ange sat in front of him. He smiled warmly, running a hand through his hair. "Why are you sitting on the ground? Come with me..."
Satan hesitated. He was relieved that the nine other angels weren't looking at him. They looked really indifferent toward his existence. He nodded slowly. Ange glanced down at Ethan. "Let me wake him up for you..."
He placed a hand on Ethan's forehead as a white light covered it. A few more seconds, Ethan regained consciousness. He stared at Ange's cheerful face. He smiled weakly.
"Sit down," Ange helped him. Ethan nervously stared at the eight angels. They looked dreadful with their colourful auras and their towering wings. They looked dreadful, unlike Ange. And now that he remembers, he's never seen Ange's angelic form, not even when they fought back in Gehenna.
"Stand up and walk behind me. Don't look at any angel in the eye. When I sit down, stand up beside me; don't sit down, stay still, alright?"
The two demons nodded. The three of them stood up. They walked back toward the others. Ange sat down. Satan and Ethan stood beside him. They didn't eye a single angel, as Ange asked them.
Everyone fell silent for a while. Then Ange started talking.
"Out of respect for our new guests and to make the usual formalities, everyone should go ahead and present himself properly."
The nine angels nodded and stood up.
Lune started. He had a long black hair and orange eyes. "Lune, second saint, moon and night saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Aliquam continued. "Aliquam, third saint, time saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Locus was next. He had royal blue hair reaching to his elbow and white eyes. "Locus, fourth saint, space saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Varitita continued. "Varitita, fifth saint, gravity saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Solute smiled weakly. "Solute, sixth saint, wind saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Nebula stood up. "Nebula, seventh saint, mist saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Neige coldly stared at Satan, remaining silent. After a few minutes, he finally spoke. "Neige, eighth saint, snow saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Erini was next. "Erini, ninth saint, nature saint, nice to meet you," he sat down.
Madera was the last to speak. She had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. "Madera, tenth saint, wood saint, nice to meet you," she sat down.
"Thank you," Ange nodded. "Sit down, Satan and Ethan."
Ethan and Satan did as instructed. Ethan closed his eyes, feeling a pain in his heart. Ange glanced at them. "In the case that you're wondering about the first saint, it would be me, Ange, first saint, light saint."
"You're no longer a saint, archangel!" Madera corrected.
Ange's gaze softened. "Well, you're right..."
Ethan placed a hand on his chest, panting silently. Lune glared at him. He cleared his throat. "Can we finish with this quickly, Ange? We came straight from a mission and we're pretty exhausted."
"Sure, I understand." Ange sighed. "I just wanted you to meet these two. They're both Gehenna's," he hesitated for a while. "Princes..."
The angel's eyes widened. Varitita and Solute looked away.
"How could you kidnap two members of the royal family?!" Locus stood up in protest. He gritted his teeth, pointing at the demon brothers. "Do you know that these bastards can start a war against us because we kidnapped them?! Ange! Have you lost your mind?!"
"We didn't kidnap them," explained Ange. "We just saved them. They were both about to get killed."
Solute's eyes widened. He gasped, placing his hands on his face. "Th... That... killing intent... it was..."
He started trembling.
Locus glared at him. "Was it that dreadful?" He glanced at Satan, who was staring down at the ground. "So, you brought them here?"
Ange nodded. "I'm merely asking you not to hurt them."
"You're asking us not to hurt a demon?"
"Ethan's powers were sealed. He no longer can use magic. Satan's condition doesn't allow him to use his fire anymore as well. Do you understand? Now, they need our protection..."
"Why?!" Madera frowned. "If they have problems with Gehenna, we have nothing to do with it! Let them solve their problems on their own!"
"Because they might become angels someday..." Ange added.
The nine angels glanced at each other in confusion. "Angels?!"
Nebula crossed his arms. "Alright then, let's lock them in a room and that's all?! What guarantees you that all this wasn't a game and that they actually aren't spies for Gehenna?"
Ange sighed, lowering his head. He glanced at Satan and Ethan. "I'll have to ask you to duel these guys. This is the ultimate proof. You have no choice..."
"I will duel them, both of them," the black-haired angel offered, lips parting with a small smile. "Please, accept my request, archangel."
Ange stared at him. He glared at the black aura surrounding him. "What are your intentions behind this duel, Lune?"
Lune remained silent. He stood in front of Ethan. "Let's go? I won't kill you..."
Ethan hesitated. He glanced at Ange, almost asking for help. Ange's gaze grew serious. "Alright, but I'll interfere at any moment if you try to kill him."
"Yes, sir, that would be very convenient," Lune bowed. He grabbed Ethan by his arm and dragged him toward the exit of the temple.
Aliquam bit his lips. "Lune is scary! He's... He's always got that black aura around him!"
Ange emotionlessly stared at the exit of the temple. He glanced down at Satan. "You'll just watch..."
"What? He won't duel?"
"His bonds with Ethan are really strong. If Ethan is in real danger, he'll try to save him at all cost. But, you'll see that even Satan can't make great damages, due to his lack of energy," explained Ange.
He helped Satan to stand up and they both walked ahead. The other angels followed them. Satan narrowed his eyes, blinded by the bright light at the exit. His eyes widened, as they went outside. The sun was shining. It was day time. It wasn't the same than Gehenna with its dark days. Everything was bright. It reminded him of...
Rin...
Satan lowered his head, clenching his fists.
I hope you're doing well, Rin...
The angels walked toward the backyard. It was a wide yard. It was surrounded by antique pillars. It was similar to an amphitheatre. The angels sat on the highest tier, staring down at the fight. A soft wind blew. It was fresh and cold...
Satan stared at Ethan. "Will he be... alright?"
Ange didn't answer. He patted Varitita's shoulder, who nodded.
Lune stared at Ethan. "What is it? You look confused."
Ethan clenched his fists. "How am I supposed to fight you without my powers?"
"We'll discover that," Lune's orange eyes started shining. A yellow circle shined into it as dark clouds started forming in the sky. And in a second, the night came and a big round moon appeared. It was a white moon...
Satan stared at it, eyes wide. His power is... thrilling...
Ethan glanced around, waiting for an attack.
"You can't imagine..."
His eyes flashed wide, as a black darkness surrounded him.
Ange's gaze darkened.
"How the night can be dreadful."
Ethan gasped, as darkness chains wrapped around his body. He gazed at it, shocked. An angel... is using darkness?!
"Are you surprised?" Lune's smile widened. "But, I can't really call that darkness... Since my sole wish..."
Ethan fell to his knees, panting.
"Is to destroy the demons... A pure intention, isn't it?"
Ethan gritted his teeth, glancing at him. He tried to get rid of the chains, but it just got tighter.
Lune glanced at the moon. He closed his eyes, flying to it. He smirked, standing above Ethan. A hundred black orbs surrounded him. "The moon is my fuel. The closer I am, the greater my darkness..."
Ethan stood up, staring at him. He emotionlessly stared at the orbs.
"Now, disappear," the orbs formed into beams and blew toward Ethan. Varitita stood up, but Ange shook his head. Varitita nodded.
Satan's eyes widened, as the beams crashed on the ground and dust exploded from the ground, making the vision almost impossible. "Ethan!"
Lune glared. "Could he have..."
The dust faded away.
"What are you doing?" Ethan smiled, absorbing the chains into his body. Everyone's eyes widened in shock. "He's... absorbing the darkness..."
Lune gritted his teeth. "You're crazy! That darkness is stronger than you! You'll die!"
Ethan's smile widened. His crest started shining. "You can kill me, cut my head, my limbs, extract my heat, burn my flesh or drink my blood." His eyes turned black as his skin cracked. "But I'll never forgive you..."
A black circle formed in his hand as he flew toward Lune. "IF YOU USE SATAN'S FEELINGS!"
Ange smiled. "This is what I wanted to see..."
Madera's eyes widened. "He's... sacrificing his own life for his brother?!"
Aliquam smiled.
Black chains ran from Ethan's body. A black blade appeared in his hand. He held it with his both hands and started attacking the night angel. Lune stared at him, shocked. He gritted his teeth, grabbing Ethan by his neck. He kicked him to the ground and grabbed a golden sword. He flew toward him.
They started a sword match.
"Hah?!" Erini stared at Ethan, shocked. "This is the first person that makes Lune that angry! Nobody was ever able to keep up with him! This Ethan is amazing!"
Locus smirked. "I may want a fight with him..."
Lune clenched his fists. "Amazing... You're making my blood boil!"
Ethan's eyes widened. He collapsed to the ground, screaming. A black aura surrounded him. His hand reached for Satan. Satan's eyes flashed wide. He ran toward him.
He held him, eyes watering. "Ethan, speak to me, ETHAN!"
Ethan clung to his shirt with trembling hands. "It... HURTS!" He cried out in pain.
Lune smirked widely, glancing at him. "That's what you get for defying the angels!"
Ethan gasped, falling into the darkness. He moaned in pain, relaxing into his brother's hold. His hand fell to the side. Satan gasped. He held his hand, calling out his name. Tears ran down his face, hearing no answer. He felt his pulse. His eyes went wider. "No... p... pu... lse..."
The others' eyes widened.
Orange flames burst from Satan's body. He carefully laid Ethan on the ground and stood up. He stared at Lune, eyes wide in fear and rage. "No... pulse..." He started walking toward the night angel, everything around him burning. "You... killed... him?"
Lune smiled. "What of it? You're all filthy demons! Die and shut up!"
Satan smiled back. He disappeared. Lune gasped, feeling himself kicked to the ground. Satan started punching him, fire covering his fists.
Varitita stood up. "Sit down," Ange ordered.
"But, archangel! Lune is getting his ass kicked!"
"I told you..." Ange's gaze went cold. "If Satan keeps this up, he'll die. His flames will last for a limited period of time. And then, it's Lune's fault. He should take his responsibilities..."
Varitita sat down.
Satan gritted his teeth, grabbing Lune by his collar. Lune stared at the rage in his gaze, shocked.
Is this... the demon lord?
To be continued...
