Confession to the cat – Alternate Route

He hadn't turned into a cat for a long time, but even if he did and showed up in front of Kido as one, she might grow suspicious and now right away it was him. That's why, even though it was embarrassing to go through the same thing he did ten years ago, Kano was now able to turn into a golden feline.

And what better way to test it out by appearing in front of Kido, acting as if he needed to be taken care of for only a few hours?

It went according to plan. Right now he was on her lap, purring as she stroked his fur. He saw everything; her smiling and gushing over his illusion. Staring at him as he drank the milk she offered. Kano relaxed against her, determined to keep this a secret he would actually enjoy keeping.

"Honestly, that Kano." The said boy looked up at her, staring with his new cat eyes. "Always going out without telling any of us, making us worry…"

At first, Kano felt bad. He had his reasons to do this, but it was wrong to make everyone worry about him. But this time he only went missing because he wanted to try this new trick out and tease her when her guard was completely down. So, just for today, he would listen to her. She's hadn't been this open for a long time and he missed it.

"Would you mind listening?" she sighed when he sat up on her lap, meowing at her to tell him what was wrong. He gave her his full attention. Kido just snorted. "Good, you're much better than those idiots."

Ouch, that's harsh, Kido. He meowed at her to begin, and she started. "Kano, you know? He's been my friend since I was little. Even though Seto – he's another friend of ours, was with us, Kano was always there to cheer us up…with his idiocy. But here's a secret you mustn't tell anyone, okay?" He was surprised when Kido winked, making the gesture Ayano always made in the past. "I'm grateful that he helped us, even when I was the one who couldn't control my powers the most. He may be tired from all this, but I'm thankful for Kano's encouragements."

Glad to know how much my idiocy makes you smile, Kido, Kano was happy to know what he did was actually appreciated. He meowed at her playfully, and heard her laugh.

"Yeah, it's weird." She lifted him up in her hands to nuzzle his fur softly with her cheek. Kano blushed at the affection, but kept quiet. "I don't like it when he uses his Eyes to hide things, but I'll admit he meant well. He's a good person. I know that." A tired sigh escaped her after this, lowering the cat in the process. Kano looked up at her worriedly. "I just wish he would stop using it though. It's not good for him."

Silence looming over them, with Kano staring at her with bright yellow eyes before he leaned closer and placed his front paws on Kido's shoulders. He gave her a small lick on the cheek, startling her.

It will be okay…and I'm sorry, he tried to tell her with his eyes. Kido stared at him for a moment, blinking at him until a smile gradually appeared and she lifted the cat up to her face.

"You're sweet," she whispered before cuddling him again. "But yesterday Seto told me that we have to have faith in him that he would stop and I should stop worrying. But I can't do that." Her hold on the cat tightened slightly. "I…I just don't think we should leave him alone."

"Meow?" Why not?

"Because I don't want to," Kido answered without missing a beat, not caring that she was acting uncool and talking to a cat. Kano wanted to wrap his arms around her to comfort her, but couldn't. "He needs us to be with him and I don't want to abandon a close friend," he stared up at her as she held him closer. "As much as I claim to hate his idiocy, I can't abandon someone I love, right? Even if he would never know it, I want to stay with him until the end."

At her words, Kano's eyes went wide from shock; his breath came short as they sank in. She thought of him that way. She cared that much because she…loves… He tried to push himself away from Kido, staring at her questioningly. She was crying, but she quickly wiped the tears away as she said, "Not one word to anyone, okay?"

Oh crud, Kano felt his face burning up; making his heart feel like it was going to explode along with his overheating Eyes. He quickly jumped away from Kido, feeling his powers breaking away as he dashed for the nearest exist.

"H-Hey! Where are you going!?" Kano cursed himself as he heard her chase after him as he ran. But everywhere was close off. "Come back here!"

Kano tried to jump up at the air vent, but it was too high with his cat body. He looked around; trying to think of another place to escape, but Kido had already scooped him up. He thrashed around, trying to tell her to let go before it was too late while she yelled at him.

Finally, his powers came loose, and his illusion faded away as he fell on top of Kido with a thud. She was taken by surprise, squeaking as she dropped onto the floor with him. Both the teens groaned on impact, Kano pushing himself up while hissing. When he opened his eyes to look at Kido properly, all he saw was an absolutely mortified girl staring at him with bright red eyes that matched the colour on her face.

"Umm…" he said as he noticed her hand turned into fist. "Hey, Kid-"

His light was punched out.

The new rule for tonight was that whenever Kido locked Kano up in his room without his dinner for the day, no one was allowed to talk to him let alone approach him. No one dared to ask, except Mary and Momo but Seto and Shintaro told them to drop it.

Behind the closed door, Kano was tied to the bed, making muffled noise through his gag as he struggled to be freed. He had slipped up again, and this time this was the worst punishment Kido had given him. Well excuse him, it was supposed to be a small joke-slash-experiment he was trying! He didn't expect to hear Kido's love confession!

His stomach growled as he stared up at the clock, the commotion outside died down by now. 12:01am Kano sighed at the red digital light, thinking he should give up already and just sleep with an empty stomach. He just hoped this would be over in the morning.

Accepting his fate tonight and starting to doze off, it felt like only seconds passed before Kano heard the door opening. The light was still off, so he didn't bother to open his eyes. Probably Kido coming in to untie the ropes and take off the gag to end his punishment. When he felt his hands and feet free though, she was nudging him.

"Oi, get up already."

The blond blinked and saw the faint outline of Kido in the dark. Taking off the gag himself, he noticed something smelled nice in his bedroom.

"Oh, is my punishment over?"

"Shut up and eat before I change my mind."

He shrugged and began to eat his dinner. His favourite too: curry on rice. They stayed quiet, only the sound of the spoon Kano was using scraped against the dish resounded in the room. Once he was done, Kido took the dish and walked out without another word. Thinking she was still mad, he decided to roll over and get back to sleep with a satisfied belly.

But after a few minutes, with him almost dozing off, he felt someone climbing into his bed. Kano wondered what was going on now when arms started to wrap around him, followed by a voice whispering into his ear:

"You are an idiot."

Kano stayed silent for a while, but he let himself smile and relax when Kido pressed closer to him. "I know. My bad."

"I won't be as forgiving if you do it again."

He laughed a little. "But it was fun – " he chocked when the grip around his waist tightened. "How about I just warn you before I pull a stunt like that again?"

She didn't answer him first, just loosening her grip and relaxing. Kano decided to drop it and was ready to doze off again when Kido spoke up again.

"Next time the black cat," she snuggled closer to him. "I like the one from back when we were little."

He smiled again. "Sure."
