Part 35
With Jake on his way to Seattle the rest now has time to celebrate Halloween.
As expected Phil is vetoing the French maid uniform as outfit for Lindsy. he prefers to enjoy that one in private. But the wicked witch from the west look has his approval. Josh decided to go as little red riding hood, an interesting look especially since he refused to shave. And Scotty Hilstrand looked just perfect as sleeping beauty. The long black wig really suited him.
His dad as big bad wolf was funny, even if Johnatan should be interested in little red riding hood and not the wicked witch from the west. But never mind. Eddie went for spiderman again, starting to get a bit predictable, but he likes the outfit and the response it gets him. Phil just wore a patch on one eye and went as pirate. The North Western crew where really boring, they didn't use any disguise. Monty went as Mighty Mouse. That was funny, even if Lindsy didn't really understand the joke at first.
All in all Halloween was fun, and the camera crew stopped filming after 45 minutes because after that there would have been to many beeb's. Correction, it would have been a continues BEEEEEEEEEB.
After the party everybody made it back to their boats, more or less, and Lindsy got settled in at the CM. Heading straight for the bunk she and Phil would be sharing and crashing. It was a bit tight quarters but Lindsy liked sleeping with Phil wrapped around her.
She woke up feeling strange, that would be the word, strange. Not really nauseated. But not good either. The felt as if the world was moving around her. And Phil was nowhere to be found. She tried sitting up carefully, trying to figure out if it really was the world that was moving or if she just had the hangover from Hell. Even if the lack of a headache didn't seem to point that way and she really didn't drink that much, did she?
Sitting went well, so she tried standing up only to fall over and slump against the wall.
At this point she also noticed that there was an enormous amount of clamor going on outside.
Putting on her shoes took some time. Because she kept losing her balance. But finally she had them on. Opening the door and sticking her head out into the hallway she nearly got decapitated by Freddie who came running by.
"Sorry Lindsy, have to run."
And gone was Freddie. Okay it seemed it wasn't the hangover from Hell but something else was going on. She made her way to the galley but there was nobody there. Going outside in her normal clothes didn't seem like a good idea. So instead she went up the stairs to the wheelhouse. There she found Phil sitting in his chair, chain chewing. Yeah he still wasn't smoking, and cursing up a storm at the same time.
During the night an other boat moored next to the CM and that while Phil wanted to get going early to get fuel, not leaving port yet, but just fueling up for the next trip. The guys where now all trying to get out from in-between without damaging either boat. And Phil was exchanging polite nothings with the other skipper, Bering sea style.
Lindsy sat down on the bench in the wheelhouse and just enjoyed the show even if she needed a dictionary for most of the 'polite nothings'. She didn't have anything else to do at the moment. And it was impressive to see how Phil managed to steer this big boat so precisely that nobody got damaged.
After 45 minutes the CM was out in the harbor and on her way to the fueling dock. Linsdy took this moment to make her presence know.
"Hey Phil, How you doing?"
Standing behind his chair and sliding her arm around his shoulders.
"I'm fine, you sleep well?"
Phil sounds a bit gruff and doesn't even turn around to look at her. He is working.
"Sure, only waking up was a bit strange. Do I have time to go shopping for some things, I didn't plan on staying for longer than a weekend. So I didn't bring that much."
"Sure fueling takes a few hours. Take Josh and go have fun, need my credit card?"
"Nope, I've got my own, but thanks."
Lindsy hangs around in the wheelhouse for a bit longer to see if she will get a kiss or something, but Phil is busy and has completely forgotten she is there. So after a few minutes she goes down stairs with the plan to get some breakfast for herself, only one by one the guys come in and it is clear they haven't had time to eat yet. So instead of frying two eggs and settling down for a quiet breakfast she ends up frying over a dozen egg in different ways and pouring gallons of coffee. But by then everybody has had something to eat and she can get her own breakfast.
The guys are working again, docking at the fuel dock. And that has to be done with precision, because if the boat is to far out the fuel line wont make it. But if it is to close it might be dangerous.
By the time Lindsy is done with her breakfast and cleaning everything the docking is done and Josh is ready to go shopping as well.
So the two of them head out to town, picking up Jake A, who promised the night before to join them and in case of emergency to get the store open, and Crosby from the Wizard on the way. He just happened to remember that he needed some more gear as well when he heard Lindsy saying that she would go shopping that day.
So with a posse of drop dead gorgeous boys with her Linsdy heads to town and gets her shopping done, and probably did the first fashion show in grundens and survival suit in the town of Unalaska. She even managed to do some shoe shopping, if those extra tuffs count as shoes. But the spending is undoubtedly way over 500 $ in total.
It is half way in the afternoon when Lindsy and Josh finally make it back to the CM. They had had some lunch in town with Jake A and Crosby, gossiping about the other boats and crew peculiarities. Lindsy was glad to have this time with Jake A in the same room, it helped her to get her hormones in check. Sure it was a cute boy, but no Phil. Definitely not Phil. But is was fun and they completely forgot the time. By the time they get to the CM they are welcomed by a very angry Phil who is standing on deck, arms crossed over his chest, clearly waiting. The rest of the crew is working somewhere out of sight judging by the sounds. It seemed Phil wanted to leave before noon and he is sure he told Josh earlier. So Josh gets a trimming alright. Only Josh isn't hanging around for it, he immediately goes to work without saying a word except for a fast apology while running past Phil. Leaving Lindsy to face off a very angry Phil.
Only Lindsy is still in the process of climbing on board, loaded down with her gear, not getting how angry Phil really is.
"He Phil relax, it was my fault not Josh. I did all the shopping."
At this point she is holding out a hand for some help getting on board. Phil doesn't even offer to help with the bags.
"You don't have to tell me it was all your fault."
Phil answer's, and after that he starts yelling at Lindsy. And yeah it was also laced with some of the Bering Sea 'polite nothings' at her address, and he turns around, stalking away leaving Lindsy to fight her own way on board.
And it isn't so much what he said but the way he said it. Lindsy freezes for a second and then decides she isn't going to accept it. If this is the way it is going to be on board then she is going back home, nobody talks to her like this. Not even the big and mighty Captain. Phil on his boat and working sure is a very different creature than Phil relaxed on land. And she is pretty sure she doesn't like the captain side of him.
Dumping the gear she bought on to the dock she turns around and heads back to town.
It is the on deck cameraman that points this fact out to Phil. And sure Tod Stanley has got some major favor points with Phil for being with him last season during the embolism, but even he gets his head bitten off at first.
Then Phil goes after Lindsy, who has set a swift pace on her way to town. By the time Phil manages to catch up with her he is out of breath, and Lindsy isn't slowing down to give him time to catch it again.
Nope, she is angry alright, first he pretty much forces her on his boat, and now he starts blaming her for things she didn't know anything about. Even cursing at her? No way that is going to happen. Next flight out is hers. And if that takes to long she will get Boris to come and get her.
And yeah she knows that her walking out of fights isn't her best character trait. But she cant handle unreasonable people, that is also why she pretty much walked out of her family. If you fight it is in the form of a hefty discussion and sticking to the facts. Not screaming and cursing and blaming somebody without any good reason, just because things didn't go the way you want.
She didn't want to be on the boat anyway. Even her famous sense of the ridiculous, that normally comes to the rescue, has left her.
So instead of slowing down and listening to Phil she just walks faster, and when Phil is keeping up she goes even faster without really running.
Phil is struggling to keep up and he is about to just grab her and make her listen when Lindsy's phone starts ringing. Talk about saved by the bell.
She stops walking and barks a rather short of breath "What?" into the phone.
Than her voice changes and she is friendly again.
"Hey Jake, sorry about that, I am angry with your dad, but what happened?"
Phil is by now ready to pull the phone from her hands but she is giving him the death ray stare combined with the pointy finger, and he learned to respect both of those by now, in combination they are a deadly tool.
All he can do is watch and listen to a one sided conversation that is laced with lots of grinning on the side of Lindsy and even more Hemmmmemmm's. He does manages to distil that the baby isn't born yet and that Hilde has accepted Jake back into her live. But that is about it.
Than Lindsy is talking to Hilde.
"Dave? Yeah sure I met him………..You want me to tell him what?……Say again?…. Sure I will…………. Huhu, yeah sure I'll do……………..Anything else?………..Okay. I'll ask, yeah have fun…………sure………….bye now………Yeah you too……….. And kiss Jake from me.
With that Lindsy started laughing again, and still grinning she turns off the phone. Only now does she step closer to Phil and looks at him. Still grinning and a warmer light shining in her eyes.
"Okay Phil you are more or less forgiven for cursing at me. But never ever do it again. I am not one of your deckhands, I am your fiancée, remember?"
And man does he remember. He also remembers why it is a bad idea to have women on board. He is going to be so whipped this trip, and the worst part??
He is going to love it.
Wrapping her arm around Phil his waist and turning him in the direction of the boat Lindsy is grinning into his face.
"Lets go."
Together they walk to the CM again. Phil still burning with curiosity and some residual guilt trying very hard to apologize, and Lindsy just grinning about some internal joke, and refusing to let him speak or to say a thing herself. When ever he starts to speak she just turns over and gives him a quick kiss to shut him up, its effective.
Phil helps Lindsy on board and then starts throwing her gear to Freddie who is standing by. Lindsy, now safely on deck starts looking for Dave. Once she spots him she walks right up to him and gives him a big bear hug and three resounding kisses on his cheeks. Dave turns red almost at once.
"This is from Hilde, you know Jake his girlfriend. She says thanks, all her cravings are being met and she also likes number four and fourteen and she wants you to call soon so you can explain the bracing thing in number 21 again, because that one isn't working and she bumped her knee, seems Jake wasn't really paying attention at the time."
Dave just stands there grinning and turning red, while Josh, Freddie, Murray and Phil are rolling around the deck with laughter. Seeing this Lindsy turns around to face Phil and lets go of the clincer.
"And she also told me to ask you to explain number twelve to Phil because she thinks I would like it, even if I don't have a clue what she is talking about."
This leaves Dave feeling acutely uncomfortable and wishing for the Bering sea to open up and swallow him whole, Phil has stopped laughing and is pretty much ridged with shock and the rest is really going off in whoops.
Tod Stanley is looking for the right filter again, congratulating himself that he still has it in his pocket. Only now he needs it for Dave and Phil in stead of Jake. Heaving a deep deep sigh he attaches it to the camera, again. Luckily he needed it for a short time only.
The shock didn't last very long. Soon Phil is up in his domain the wheelhouse again and the crew is getting ready to undock. While Josh is in the process of throwing off the lines to the dock Russell Newberry comes running up, shouting and waving his left arm, carrying his duffle bag over his right shoulder.
"He Josh, I heard you guys are a man short, need an extra deckhand?"
"Wait here, I'll ask."
And with that Josh runs up to the phone in the wetroom to talk to his dad. And yeah, Phil could use an extra hand. Because it is clear that Lindsy wont enjoy doing bait anytime this trip.
Within seconds Russell is on board and working. His duffle bag thrown into the galley and forgotten. Phil has a full crew again, and Josh is back to being master baiter. He still is the youngest one on board.
