The Man Who Knew Too Much- S6E22

She looked through the window of the door. He had been screaming not three minutes ago and now he was completely still. As still as a statue. But Gemma was still asleep, which was crazy because he had been screaming unbelievably loud. "You heard him too?" Dean's voice caused her to jump back. She looked back at her brother in-law. "Lil, he lost his nuts and bolts. We put him in there for a reason." He reminded her.
She pulled the window seal over and bolted it shut. "I know that. I just thought that when we let him out the first time, that was it. We were done with the crazy." She sighed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"He's dangerous, Lils. He could hurt anyone, he could hurt himself. He could hurt Gemma. This is for the best and you know that." He told her. She rolled her eyes.
"This was not supposed to happen, Dean. We were supposed to be okay. We had lives, good ones. We fucked up by coming back to this." He stared back at her. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I can't help him. I should be able to help him, but I can't. I'm his wife and I have to sit here and helplessly watch him go crazy. Again." Her hands fell to her sides.
"Let's get some food in your stomach." Dean changed the subject. Maybe that was what she needed. She hadn't eaten since breakfast the day before. She had been too busy. Bobby was sitting at the kitchen table, Gemma in his lap.
"Ma!" Gemma grinned, reaching for Lily. To Dean's surprise, Lily didn't pick her daughter up.
"Lils, what sounds good for lunch? I'm thinking grilled cheese." Dean suggested. She didn't say anything but sat down and opened the laptop on the table. "What are you doing?" He asked her.
Her eyes scanned the laptop screen. "How much time do we have, Bobby?" She asked. He said they had a little over sixteen hours. "That's more than enough time." She mumbled, taking her cell phone out of her pocket. She dialed a number and Dean and Bobby shared a look. "It's me. I need a favor. A big one...No, I don't have that kind of time...You'll have to come here...Thanks, I appreciate it." She looked over at Gemma as she hung up. "Looks like all we've got is the three of us. Think we can pull this off?" She sighed, shutting the laptop.
"I think we're gonna have to, kid. You got any sort of plan for this?" Bobby asked her. She shook her head and said she felt like winging it.
"I've got an old friend who's not too far from here. He's going to come watch Gemma for us while we...finish this. I need to go check on Sam." She reached out and touched Gemma's hand gently before getting up.
"Ma." Gemma said softly. Lily locked her jaw tightly and left the room.
Dean looked over at Bobby. The old man nodded once and Dean pushed off the counter and followed Lily down to the Panic Room. She was staring at the door, two feet away and frozen.
"Lil?" Dean whispered. Her arms fell down to her sides, a flashlight in her left hand. "Lily, you don't have to do this. I can do it, Bobby can do it." He offered.
She shook her head and opened the door. He could see the bed his brother was unconscious on past Lily's small frame. His wrists and ankles were bound to the bed. Dean had told Lily it was insurance. A just in case policy. "I'm just checking his vitals. Now that the wall is down...I'm worried for his safety, physical and mental."
He followed her as she went inside the room. "Give me the flashlight, Lily." Wordlessly, she tossed it to him. He leaned over Sam's body and opened his eye. Sam jerked, causing Dean to jump back.
"I'm going back upstairs. I need a drink." Lily muttered. Dean furrowed his brow. She didn't drink. She hadn't drank in...a long time. She left the Panic Room and went up the stairs silently. Dean followed her to her room and shut the door quietly. She was rummaging under her mattress. She pulled out a bottle of whiskey and screwed the lid off.
"Leave, Dean." She grumbled, sitting in front of the bed. He sat down in front of her. He asked her to tell him what was wrong but informed her that he wasn't leaving until she did. "I can't look at my daughter. I can't even stand to be in the same room with her anymore. She looks so much like Sam and I'm so afraid that we won't get him back this time. How can I be the mother I promised I would be if I can't even look at my child?" She took a swig from the bottle and winced.
"Whiskey was always your poison." Dean laughed as she swallowed slowly. She made a face and took another drink. "Lil, you sure that's it? Just the fact that she looks like him?" He knew that couldn't be all of it. It never was with her. There was always something else. "Tell me." He urged her.
"You're right. It's not just Sam. I've been afraid to be around her since Eve. The only reason I agreed to help her, to let her inside my brain was because she promised she would keep Gemma safe. Deep down, I know she wasn't going to keep her word. I knew exactly what she wanted with me. With Gemma. She told me I was the perfect child. I thought it was because I had wanted to help her, from the first time she asked me. But it wasn't that. It was because I was the perfect breed. I was half demon and half archangel. I had everything that any monster could want or need. And she wanted it more than anything, more than anyone. She was going to use me for...something. I couldn't read what it was but it wasn't good. And she wanted Gemma too. She said she was special. That Gemma would be what saved the planet, what saved everyone." Lily took a deep breath and another drink. Another three drinks. "I was going to hand my daughter over. My only daughter, my only child. I can't look at her without thinking about that. I let her down. She doesn't know and she will never know but I let her down."
Dean stood up and extended his hand to her. "If you're gonna start drinking again, at least let me get you a glass." He half-smiled. Lily grimaced and let him help her up. As they were walking down the hallway, she stopped and nearly dropped the bottle. "Lily?" Dean looked at her.
"Someone is here." The mood was gone. She was the same old kick-ass Lily he'd always known. He liked that Lily. She stomped down the stairs, sounding like a herd of elephants. Bobby and Gemma weren't in the kitchen. Dean nearly collided into Lily's back. Her ears strained for noise. "Panic room. Be quiet." She ordered him.
"You're telling me to be quiet?" He asked. She turned to glare at him then kept walking. Bobby and Gemma were sitting on the basement stairs, looking at an overly familiar face.
"Zar!" Gemma squealed.
Lily pursed her lips. "Balthazar. How nice to see you again." She said.
"Came to check up on Sleeping Beauty." He grinned, taking Gemma from Bobby's arms. "How's my favorite little beast today?"
"Don't call her that." Lily snarled. "But it took you long enough to get here." She sighed.
"You called him here?" Bobby asked. She shrugged and finished walking down the steps. She glanced inside the panic room. Sam was still asleep. She scratched the inside of her arm and bit her lip. Balthazar handed Lily a piece of paper.
"This is where they'll be, Castiel and Crowley. Listen, that's all I can do for you. I can't stick my neck out anymore." It was like he was never there. Lily handed the piece of paper to Dean.
"Bootback, Kansas? Sounds...different." Dean mumbled.

"You about ready?" Lily asked, leaning on the door frame. Dean's eyes lifted from Sam's body to her. He nodded. "My uh, friend took Gemma out of the house. They're going to an obscure safe house. But we need to leave now." She said.
Dean slipped the piece of paper into Sam's hand along with a gun. "Come find us Sammy. Please." He begged. Lily extended her hand and waited for Dean to take it. A few seconds later, he did. She handed him an angel blade, which he gripped tightly.

The car ride was tense. It was...suffocating. Lily doubled over in the passenger seat, her hands holding her chest. "Lil? Lily, what's wrong?" Dean asked, putting his hand on her back.
"He's dead. Balthazar is dead. Cas killed him." She murmured.
"Hush you two. I see people." Bobby growled.
"Dead people or living people?" Dean joked. Lily cracked a smile. Bobby said they were angels. "Fantastic." Just what they needed. "Do you think you ca-?" Dean started but Lily shoved her hand over his mouth. He jerked her hand away, glaring at her.
"Do you two hear that...?" She whispered.
"Hear what?" Dean replied. The ground beneath their feet shook. Dean closed his eyes. "What the hell is that?" Simultaneously, the three of them turned and looked up at the sky behind them. The sky was dark with black clouds. "Looks like a storm's coming in." Dean sighed.
"Dean, that's no storm. Those are demons." Lily told him. It definitely didn't move like a cloud. It was fast approaching, any second it would be on them. "In the car. Now." She urged them. The three of them quickly piled into the car, Bobby in the back and Dean and Lily in the front.
"It's gonna hit us, isn't it?" Dean whispered. Lily told them to hold on tight. As the smoke engulfed the car, the Impala flipped over and landed on the hood.

"Lil? Lily, wake up." Dean groaned. She stirred, but it was weak. "Lily, wake up." He repeated. Her eyes fluttered open. "That's my girl." He cracked a small smile. She blinked slowly. "We gotta get out of here."
"No shit, Sherlock." Bobby groaned from the backseat. Lily grinned lightly. Dean pulled himself out of the car.
"Can you two get out alright or you need my help?" Dean asked, rubbing his face. Bobby easily got himself out. "Lil?" Dean questioned.
She pushed her hands against the dashboard. Again and again. "I can't get out. I can't move. Dean, why can't I move?" She slammed her hands against the dashboard angrily. "I want out! Get me out!" She shrieked.
Dean moved to her side of the car and knelt down. "Calm down. Just calm down. We're gonna get you out. Can you feel your legs?" Shakily, she said yes. "Okay. Here's what I need you to do. I think you can get out. But you're gonna have to throw the door open because I think it's jammed pretty tight."
"Dean I have to get out. Please I have to get out." She whimpered.
Dean stood up and leaned his head against the car. He nodded, finally understanding what had to happen. "Wings, do you have a handle on your wings?" She said yes. "You need them right now, kid. Do it quick and they should throw the door open."
"Get back. Both of you." Both of the men stepped back a few paces wordlessly and quickly. In a flash, the passenger door flew open and almost off the hinges. "Get me out. Pull me out." She ordered him. He bent down and took her by the arms. He yanked her out swiftly and she stumbled forward. "We gotta get in there. I can feel...an archangel. Whatever is happening has to be stopped. Come on." She regained her posture and started walking.
"Whoa. Whoa." Dean grabbed her arm. "You can't just go bustin' up in there, especially if there's an archangel in there. I know you think you're invincible, but you aren't. So just...let's make a plan."
She snatched her arm away and narrowed her eyes. "No time for plans. It's happening now. Crowley is performing the ritual right now. I'm going in there, whether you want to go with me or not."

"Lillian, how nice of you to join us this evening." The woman smiled tightly.
Lily shifted her stance and placed her hand on the angel blade at her hip. "Raphael. I would say it's a pleasure but we both know how I really feel." The blade flew right past her ear. For a hopeful moment, she thought it would hit its mark. But Raphael caught it in his hand just before it went in his chest.
"You brought company. Lovely." Raphael's vessel smiled. Lily turned to see Dean and Bobby standing behind her.
"Be with you in a few moments, love. Bit busy right now." Crowley called.
Her heart felt like it was getting pinched by a lobster. How could he be doing this to her? To Gemma? She thought he loved them. He glanced at the men behind her and they were thrown down the stairs. Her hands curled into fists at her sides as her wings spread out. "I would be very pleased if you put a stop to this nonsense and come home with me, Fergus. Gemma will miss you terribly if you carry on with this. I would hate to have to kill you."
"Oh shut up Lillian." Crowley groaned.
She pursed her lips. "Lily, I have missed you." Someone touched her shoulder from behind, his voice barely a whisper. Raphael and Crowley weren't paying attention. Crowley was reciting the incantation.
"Castiel, what are you doing here?" She murmured. He pulled her into the shadows.
"The incantation will not work. I gave him the wrong blood." Lily closed her eyes. This was all going to Hell, back and there again. She stepped back, closer to the light.
"Cas, if you gave him the wrong blood, what did you do with the right blood?" She whispered. He didn't reply, he only looked at her with those blue puppy dog eyes. "Cas, what did you do with it?" She growled.
"I apologize greatly, Lillian. I did what I had to to keep the Host of Heaven and everything else safe." He whispered. Oh God, she thought. She was going to vomit. He did it. Cas had done it. Castiel walked past her and down to where Raphael and Crowley where.
"Castiel. I thought I got rid of you." Crowley sighed. Castiel tossed an empty jar at Crowley's feet.
"What's going on?" Dean groaned, leaning on Lily's shoulder. She supported Bobby with her other arm. She told them that Castiel did the ritual correctly while he tricked Crowley into doing it improperly.
"He did it. He opened Purgatory and whatever was in there, it's in him now." She said quietly. She watched as a bright white light filled the room.
When the light dimmed, it was like nothing changed. Castiel was still standing in front of Raphael and Crowley. "None of you can imagine what this feels like. Having millions of souls inside of you." Castiel said. Crowley disappeared.
Raphael stared at Castiel. "Let me go, brother. We are family. We love each other." The archangel pleaded. Castiel glared at his older brother and snapped his fingers. Raphael exploded like a firework, the blade in his hand falling to the ground. Castiel looked up at Lily and the men. "I saved you. You are welcome." He said tightly.
"The eclipse is gonna end soon, bud, let's get those souls out of you." Dean promised. Castiel frowned. "We gotta get them back where they belong. Back to Purgatory." Dean said.
Castiel shook his head. "These souls belong with me, Dean. Raphael was not the only one. He had followers and I must punish them as I have punished him."
Lily took a step forward, shaking Dean's hand from her shoulder. "Castiel, please believe me when I say that I love you. You...You saved my life, but you saved my soul too. We're family. Me, you, Dean and Gemma. We lost Sam, Cas, please don't make us lose you too. We need you." She begged. "Whatever you've got inside you, it's gonna kill all of us. Please, Castiel. Let us help you."
"I have no family, Lillian. You are just afraid but there is no reason to be. I will protect you. And the child. She will be useful in the future I think."
Her heart surged. Gemma. Everyone wanted her. She was powerful. Dangerous even. He wanted to use her. Just as Eve had. "Stay away from my daughter. Or I swear to God I will destroy you." She snarled.
Castiel stared at her. Blue on blue. There was a groan as Castiel turned. He pulled an angel blade out of his back, grabbing the assailant by the forearm. "Sam. I'm glad to see you're awake." He looked like death. "No angel blade will work on me because I'm not an angel any longer. How can you swear to the person standing before you, Lillian, that you will destroy them? I am God now. And if you do not obey me, I will destroy you." Castiel's voice was even and cold.
