There wasn't a single soul within three miles of the Akatsuki base, dead or alive, that missed the heart-wrenching scream. A long silence followed, even the wind seeming to still as everyone froze and listened for any further sound. When none came, all but the Akatsuki continued on with what they were doing., Kisame, Sasori, and Hidan sprinted down the hallway with a bored looking Kakuzu casually strolling behind them. "Why are women always such a damned pain?" Kisame grumbled and stared at Kasai lying curled on her side in a slowly growing pool of water. Making a sign with his hand, Kisame send the water back into the sink as Sasori turned the water off. "This is your fucking fault Sasori. Deal with it." Kisame grunted as he picked her up off the floor and set her on the bed, inspecting the gash on her shoulder with curiosity.
Hidan left immediately, muttering curses under his breath as he brushed roughly past Kakuzu in the hall. "Fucking swear if they fucking disturb another fucking ritual of mine with their shitty nonsense… I'm going to fucking sacrifice them!" He screamed the last bit and slammed his door shut, burying his scythe in it as he stormed back over to the blood circle on the floor.
"Oh just leave her. She'll wake up eventually." Sasori mumbled dismissively and turned for the door. "No. No you fucking don't." Kisame growled in irritation. "You deal with her. I'm not going to deal with her shit because you decided you need to poison her for some reason or another." He grabbed the smaller puppeteer and pulled him back towards the bed. "I get disturbed again, it's gonna be your heart I'm ripping out." His threat was idle as he stalked towards the door, clearly too tired to put up with anymore. As the door clicked shut behind him, Kasai mumbled restlessly in her sleep. Sasori shook his head as he looked down at her. "Keep dreaming kid. It'll come back to you soon enough." He flicked the lights off as he walked out of the room, leaving her door cracked open.
I groaned as I stretched, stiffness had settled into my muscles quickly after my bout with Akuto's men. When I sat up I stared in confusion at the water puddled on the floor, I could vaguely remember going to take a shower and Sasori talking to me after that but I was certain I had shut the water off. Shrugging it off, I threw a towel from the bathroom down over the water and meandered towards the kitchen. The whole way there I couldn't shake the feeling of someone following me, even though it was fairly obvious the base was dead.
I gave up trying to find something to eat and settled for a glass of water, sipping quietly as I watched the faucet drip. The hair on the back of my neck suddenly prickled and I heard a loud tick. I spun around, the glass dropping from my hand and shattering on the floor as I stared at the clock with my heart in my throat. It continued ticking slowly as the water and glass pooled around my feet. My hands were trembling as I lifted the dish-towel from the counter and knelt to clean up my mess. There was no one there, in fact I didn't think there was anyone out of their rooms at the moment and yet I could almost feel someone breathing down my neck every second. A deep breath steadied my nerves momentarily as I tossed away the broken glass but with every second that ticked by on the clock behind me I grew more and more restless, panic welling in my mind.
There was a flutter of wings as startled birds took to the sky as the Uchiha walked beneath them towards the entrance of the base. His footsteps were almost silent as he checked the living room and found it empty. At the far end of the hall he saw Kasai, walking shakily towards her bedroom door. Walking quickly he had almost caught up with her when she whipped around, throwing an arm up as if to defend herself. Itachi barely had time to take in her pale skin and shaky stance before she collapsed as if terror overwhelmed her. Baffled, Itachi approached her cautiously. "What the hell?" He mumbled as he knelt beside her, shaking her shoulder. Grey eyes snapped open and met his crimson ones before narrowing sharply.
Itachi leapt back as fear flashed through her eyes for a second and then her expression twisted to rage and her chakra swelled around her almost violently. "Kasai?" She glared at him, a visible glow of chakra surrounding her as she straightened herself from the slumped position she was in. Behind her, Sasori stood in the hall and made eye contact with Itachi briefly. Understanding flickered across his face and he sighed. "Hn. Akuto's men are back. Same area as before. No survivors." He instructed Kasai with a bored tone. "Go." Kasai vanished the moment he said the word. In the hallway Itachi sent Sasori a withering glare before vanishing after Kasai.
The young kunoichi stood on the edge of the trail, her hands clenching and unclenching slowly at her sides as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other restlessly. A small group of nin, about 6-7 were canvassing the woods in front of her in search of any trace of the Akatsuki's base or the Akatsuki themselves. Her face was void of any emotion, but her eyes followed the men's every move like a hawk. Behind her, Itachi remained motionless as he watched Kasai wait for her opportunity. Beneath her thin black shirt, her shoulders rolled and she exploded forward, bursting out onto the trail with her chakra blazing around her.
The tall female nin closest to Kasai had scarcely turned her head to acknowledge Kasai when Kasai's chakra-laden hand slammed into her back. Blood spattered out of her mouth as her ribcage was shattered, her broken ribs puncturing her lungs and drowning her in her own blood as she fell to the ground paralyzed from the shoulders down. Itachi's expression darkened slightly at the excessive use of force Kasai used to plow through everyone in front of her. But whatever he thought of her actions, he made no move to stop her as she scorched two men with a fireball so overpowered that only ashes were left to drift to the ground when the flames vanished.
Kasai's hair fanned out behind her as she twisted to avoid a sudden slashing gust of wind. Moving smoothly, she dropped to one knee and pressed her hand to the ground. She looked up as her chakra rumbled quickly through the ground in front of her, toppling smaller trees and sending the last remaining man into a gaping sinkhole in the ground. The earth collapsed back down upon him, crushing the poor soul beneath the weight of the dirt.
All in all, it only took a few minutes for me to create a new clearing in the forest about a hundred yards wide. Even though it had just been me fighting the small scouting party, it looked as though a small war had been fought from the looks of the toppled trees and torn up earth. I couldn't help the grin of satisfaction that spread across my face as I surveyed my work proudly. When I was satisfied with inspecting my work I turned back to Itachi, still grinning widely as he stepped out of the shadows. "Unnecessary," was his only comment as he surveyed the destroyed section of the forest. "Fun." I smirked as Itachi moved past me, his hands forming several signs. Several of his clones appeared and were immediately slaughtered by Itachi's fire jutsu, leaving behind scorch marks in the shape of bodies on the ground. "You're responsible for eliminating whatever attention this draws." My expression soured at the note of anger in his voice but I fought back the shiver that ran down my spine. I could feel the sense of danger from earlier creeping back over me as I let my chakra subside. Itachi must have sensed the change in my demeanor because he moved back towards me. "Get back and sleep." No matter how much fun I had just had exercising my newly regained chakra, I couldn't argue the idea of sleep.
~Back at it again! Kasai's got her powers back and can raise all kinds of hell again! Please leave a review if you read! It means the world to hear what you think. Thanks!~
