Aaren,
You were very vague in your note. This was out of the blue. Sometime's you are such a hypocrite. You expect me to tell you everything while you tell me nothing. I don't understand; we won, we are alive, we get to be a family again. At least I had hopes we would be. And you left? I'm not angry, not as much as Jayme. It's just...you chose a terrible time to up and leave. She and I wanted to tell you about Jayme's marriage to Jacob. You should have seen it; it was so beautiful. She had a Beauty and the Beast theme; books and lanturns, royal blue and gold colors, even Jacob added a bit of his family's heritage in the decor. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it worked perfectly. Now it's been a year and they just had their first baby, well babies. It certainly was easier than Bella's. They had two boys, I wonder if they'll have Jayme's powers. And if they do, how much danger are they in? It's happening all over again.
"Why do I even bother? It's not like she ever writes back." Carlisle whispered to himself, throwing his pen onto the desk. Sighing, he turned and looked out the window into the darkened sky, watching the snow land softly on the ground. It was another, hopefully more peaceful winter. Jayme insisted on waiting til there wasn't as much snow on the ground for their wedding. Not too long after that, she discovered she was pregnant. Although it was a time of great joy, it was also a time of great sorrow.
"It meant it has been a year since Aaren left.
"In every letter since, there was so much he wanted to write, so much he wanted to tell her. But writing to her is not as satisfying as talking to her. "Maybe if I write Dear Sister instead of Aaren, I would sound more polite, maybe sympathetic, than so demanding. Like I'm talking to her as I did when I was a boy. Actually, that sounds more pathetic."
"Carlisle remembered, as a boy, how close he was to Aaren. In some ways, she was more his mother than his sister.
"One afternoon, he went to her crying and sobbing. He had just been through a fight with a village boy, calling him a bastard child, a mother killer, an unwanted boy. Carlisle knew the village bully was right, but that didn't ease the pain. He remembered barging into the house, pass Elizabeth and Danelle, and dove into Aaren's lap. Sobbing into her dress, he heard her loud shouts of pain, and her petite hands tried to pry him off her. It was abnormal for Carlisle to be leaking snot and tears onto her dress. But he didn't care, he just wanted to be with his sister, let her comfort him just as she always did.
"No, I can't expect that now. I'm not that little boy-"
"The sound of a whimpering half vampire and half wolf newborn below him brought him back to reality. Carlisle looked down at the twin boys; one was awake and whimpering while the other was snoring softly. One was wrapped in blue blanket, the other in black. The first grandson's born in the Cullen family.
"Now, now, hush." Carlisle said gently, picking up the newborn boy wrapped in the blue blanket. Letting him rest in his arms, the baby went silent and stared at Carlisle with large brown, nearly black eyes. "I didn't think talking out loud would wake you. You must be one of the lightest sleeper's I have ever met, well for a baby. Unless you have already learned how to pretend to sleep."
"Dr. Fang." Carlisle looked up to see a pale, shaken Jacob standing in the doorway.
"Jacob's dark brown eyes scanned the library, although he hadn't seen a lot of libraries, he was still impressed by the amount of books in Carlisle's study. But he was also impressed by the size; big enough to fit a studio apartment.
"Carlisle put his finger to his lips, then pointed to his grandson in the other in the crib. Weeks earlier, Carlisle planned ahead in hopes of avoiding the same mistakes that happened with Bella. The first thing he planned was having a crib and another queen size bed in his study in case something were to happen to Jayme and Jacob. After Jayme gave birth to the twins in her old room, Rosalie and Esme carried the twins down stairs into the library, and Edward hauled Jacob to Carlisle and Esme's room.
"How are they?" Jacob asked in a soft tone, walking into the room and gently closed the door. His attention switching between his son in Carlisle's arms, and his other son laying in the wooden crib Sue made.
"The Pack wasn't certain how to take Jayme's pregnancy, this was the first time in their history that a set of twins were born half Quilette. The only one that showed excitement was Sue. Just about a month before they were born, she had sewed a years worth of clothes, woven a few blankets, and had Seth and Sam chop down a tree and carve a crib.
"Carlisle signaled for Jacob to follow him to the crib. Noticing the baby in his arms had fallen back asleep, Carlisle placed him down next to his twin in the crib. With Jacob standing next to him, they stared in awe at the sleeping boys.
"They are both healthy boys, despite the high temperatures." Carlisle looked up at Jacob who's eyes were hopping between the boys. He could tell Jacob was still taking everything in, it had been a very eventful year for Jacob. Engagement, preparing for a possible battle, marriage, then a set of twins ten months after that. To help ease the new father's nerves, Carlisle changed the subject. "I'm glad to see you're alright, you hit your head rather hard."
"Sorry, couldn't help it."
"It happens to most new fathers."Carlisle assured him, carefully handing the blue blanket baby to Jacob.
"Swallowing down his shaky nerves, Jacob held his son close to his chest. Awestrucked, everything seemed to have gone still. Everything seemed so surreal. Carlisle looked down at the sleeping baby in the black blanket. Bending over the crib, he gently picked him up. " At least this one stays asleep. How's Jayme?"/span/p
"She's sleeping, you two took a lot out of her." Jacob said to his son, smiling for the first time since his wedding. Holding the first baby in one arm, he took the twin into his free arm. "Wow, they're pretty heavy boys."
"They're both nearing ten pounds each." Carlisle mentioned, surprised Jacob said the babies were heavy. "I would have thought their weights to be light for Quilette children."
"Just wait til they're my age, it'll be all muscle."
"The babbling boy in Jacob's arms raised his hand, touching Jacob's face with tan, chubby fingers. Jacob's smile widened slightly, feeling the smooth finger tips. Carlisle could tell he recognized his father's voice.
"Hey!" They heard Rosalie's booming voice from the family room. "Mutt, don't you dare hog those babies, I am not afraid to rip off your arms to get to them!"
"Carlisle rolled his eyes comically, forgetting that the family had been waiting for hours since Jayme went into labor. He knew Alice was dying to go out shopping for baby clothes. Rosalie was just as excited to hold the babies, and start spoiling them.
"I think it's time to introduce the new family members." Carlisle suggested, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah, before blondie breaks in."
"And this time, please take it easy with the blond jokes. Let's just have a good family moment, shall we?"
"No promises." Jacob said with a sneer.
"Taking a deep breath, he carried both of his sons out of the study, leaving Carlisle alone with the unfinished letter. He debated on continuing his letter, making it longer or more harsh and demanding. A second later, he heard everyone's excited gasp's and their many questions.
"Twins!"
"I was hoping for girls."
"What're their names?"
"Make way!"
"Let me see!"
"Shaking his head, Carlisle left the room and joined the rest of the family in the family room. He paused at the top of the stairs, watching the daughters and Esme squeal over the newborn boy's. Esme held the blue blanket boy while Rosalie held the black blanket boy. Unsurprisingly, Rosalie woke him up. Carlisle looked at Jacob, who was standing in quietly with a small smile, still a bit too shocked to answer anyone's questions.
"Don't tell me the two of you haven't thought of any names." Rosalie said, smiling down at her nephew.
"Jayme said she wanted to continue the biblical naming of the Quilette children." Carlisle answered, walking down the stairs and stood next to Esme. "I think she said, if it's a boy, she wanted to name him Daniel and the girl Micheala. Leave it to Jayme to name her kids after her favorite Stargate character and actor."
"Guess their names are Daniel and Michael." Edward mentioned, gazing down at the twins with a warm smile.
"Daniel Carlisle and Michael William. Honoring our dad's." Jacob finally said, pronouncing each name slowly. Carlisle's mouth formed a warm smile, feeling slightly excited that Jacob and Jayme were honoring their father's like Bella did when naming Renesmee.
I DO NOT OWN STARGATE
Jacob walked down the stairs, carrying the babbling and cooing twins in his arms carefully like he was carrying newborn puppies. Looking out the windows, he saw the pack huddled together in front of the stairs, staring with fierce looks off the side. Pausing, he studied their faces. Uncertainty and anger, expressions Jacob was more than familiar with. Jacob could tell they were on edge, glaring at something in the trees.
"What's going on?" He whispered, walking out the door and down the stairs. He followed their edgy glares to the trees where the twins stood abreast each other, shooting threateningly glares at the pack, their palms turning a bright almost firey red.
"What's going on?" Jacob asked, holding his sons protectively. Edward and Carlisle were by his side before he knew it, taking the boys out of his arms. Sam's head turned sharply at Jacob, ready to morph and attack. Then he pointed at the twins.
"These two refuse to lower their defenses."
Jacob walked down the rest of the stairs and looked at the twins. "What are you two doing?"
"Protecting our family, Jake. You, Jayme, the Cullens and the twins." One said. Jacob struggled, trying to remember who was Eve and who was Julia. The two British twins resmbled each other almost too much. Strangle though, he remembered their code names and which one wore the red mask and which one wore the yellow mask.
"Pyro, Pheonix, what are you protecting us from? The Volturi have gone, we're safe-"
"You dumbo! The Pack!" Pheonix shot in her normal teenage tone, her attention turned back to Sam and the pack.
"We overheard their lil' talk earlier." Pyro added.
Jacob rolled his eyes. The twins always either finished or bounced off each other's sentences, adding more information, also with a bit more attitude. Jacob hoped that his son's would copy the same act.
"Sam intends on killing the baby. Mutiny might I add!" Pheonix continued.
"Well, now babies. Congratulations by the way."
"Our conversation," Sam said, taking a step forward, forgetting he wasn't the Pack leader anymore. "Was not about Jacob's children. He is the leader of our pack, we cannot do anything without his say. Unless they are seen as a threat-"
"Oh spare us you illogical logic. Wait, does that make sense?" Pyro asked her twin.
"Is there a point to your question?"
"No, so moving on. Sam, you deem everything a threat. When Renesmee was born, you wanted to tear off her head along with the rest of the Cullen family!"
"You certainly didn't stop, bloody hell, you nearly killed the Cullen's!"
"We don't want to fight." Seth begged, trying to keep his voice steady.
"You believe him?"
"Not in the slightest." Phoenix agreed with her sister, standing with her legs shoulder length apart and opened her palms wide. Fire bigger than a fire on a liter but small than a campfire appeared in her palms, the heat waved through her blond hair, making it bounce slightly. Pyro followed her sister, standing identical to her. "If you want to hurt Jayme and Jacob's babies, you'll have to get through us first!"
"Fine. I've been itching to kill something. Let's see what can kill these two wanna-be's." Paul whispered, taking a few steps towards the twins. He snarled and his eyes were starting to change color. The twins raised their arms, the flames expanding and spiraling in their palms.
"Hold on!" Jacob shouted quickly, standing in between the two fighting parties. "Girl's, Sam's right. They won't hurt any of us, I've imprinted on Jayme. That mean's they can't touch her or the kids." Then he looked at Sam. "Sam, this is nothing like Nessie. Jayme's not changing or doing anything to effect the treaty. She's alive, she's just sleeping."
"What about the Volturi?" Sam asked, his face hard and cold.
"If they don't see Carlisle and Jayme as threats, they won't see my boys as threats."
"Boys?" Billy asked with light in his voice, wheeling himself forward, smiling anxiously. Seeing the smile on his father's lips made the tension ease in Jacob's heart. Quickly, he turned and ran up the stairs to Carlisle and Edward. He scooped both boys back into his arms and walked down the stairs, stopping in front of Billy. More than anything, he wished his sister's and his mother could be hear with them. To see and celebrate the next generation of the Black family. And possibly the first Hybrid twins born in the Quilette Tribe.
"Boys, dad." Jacob smiled, carefully placing Michael in Billy's arm. Carefully, he knelt down and placed his hand underneath Daniel's head so Billy could see him. Jacob could see pride in those old, tired eyes. He wondered if Billy was feeling young again; having babies in the family again. "Twin boys."
"If these two cause us such a fuss," Paul asked in a harsh tone. If Jacob wasn't in such a good mood, he would've morphed and bite off Paul's head. His anger and irritation elevated when Paul pointed a long, tan finger at the boys. "What makes us think they won't?"
Jacob shot back up and took three big steps towards Paul, staring hard into his eyes. "I'm your Alpha, right?"
"So?"
"So shut up and trust me when I tell you, they will not be a threat to us." Jacob said with as much authorization as he could. It had been awhile since he had to remind another member he was the Alpha. Whether they liked it or not, they had to obey him.
"I'd say let's put the dog down." Pheonix suggested, raising her engulfed hands over her head.
"Let's test out the strength of our brethren!" Pyro agreed, raising her hands.
"Eve, Julia, enough." Carlisle commanded the young girls, however he kept his distance. The twins were like any other hot headed human being; stand in their way and Carlisle might end up in a hospital. But he wasn't going to let that happen to anyone.
"Tell machismo here to back off!"
"We're protecting our family!"
"There is no threat here." Carlisle assured them gently. "Not from the babies, not from us, and not from the pack."
"Yeah that's what you thought when that girl was born!" Paul snapped in a heavy, harsh tone.
"Her name is Renesmee. She is a member of our family just as are all of you." Carlisle corrected, squeezing his fist tightly, keeping his temper under control. "I understand your fear and frustration, and this was not part of our treaty. But we can fix that, we can change it, modernize it, make it fair. After what we just went through with the Volturi, we do not need another visit because of Daniel and Michael."
"Yeah, right-"
"Paul, that is enough." Sue scolded in a dark, yet motherly tone like Paul was one of her children that was constantly scolded. "Jacobs son's are a part of us, they are a part of our family just as they are of the Cullen's-"
"Leah, are you ok?" Seth asked his sister, noticing she was very quite during their confrontation with the fire twins.
Everyone turned their heads and looked at Leah, watching her eyes try focusing on everything around her. But her attention kept returning to the twins in Billy's arms. Slowly, she approached Billy, struggling to keep her jaw from dropping. Her breathing was light like her heart. She stopped before Billy, standing stiffly. Then, she looked back up at Jacob with hard eyes and pointed at the baby in Jacob's arm. "Which one is this one?"
"Daniel. Why?"
"Leah what's wrong?" Seth asked again, running to his sister's side. Leah stood still and stiff, her hard gaze softening, her shoulder's slumped slightly and her mouth dangled open slightly. It was a look Jacob has never seen before.
Then Jacob realized what was wrong.
"Oh you are kidding me. Leah, please tell me your joking." Jacob demanded in his dark tone, glaring daggers at Leah.
"I have no control over it, Jacob!" She snapped, she wanted to look at Jacob, but they refocused back on Daniel.
"You've imprinted on my son, Leah! A baby not even a day old!" Jacob shouted, standing in Leah's view. His heart was sore for a moment, he didn't like seeing Leah upset. But his father instinct hardened his heart.
"Oh get over it! At least I didn't imprint on both of them!"
"He's not even an hour old, Leah! And already you're making wedding plans? That's disgusting!" He shouted loud enough that both twins started crying. Billy tried rocking them back to sleep.
"Leah imprinted on Daniel." Edward informed them, trying to hide his smile. Normally, he wasn't as evil minded towards the pack. However, he was finding enjoyment in the situation.
"This should be good." Emmett whispered to himself.
"Emmett." Esme scolded, looking at him with a scowl. She never liked it when Emmett added a sly comment in hopes of starting a fight.
"Jake, you know me."Leah explained, hoping Jacob's stubbornness would take a break long enough to listen to her. "I would never hurt anyone in our family, even my annoying pest of a brother. If I imprinted on anyone, then that means the person I love has my full attention and protection. I imprinted on Danny-"
"His name is Daniel!" Jacob screamed, insulted. He didn't understand why; but Leah calling Daniel 'Danny' was like someone calling Renesmee 'Nessie' in front of Bella. "Don't call him Danny!"
"Jacob, please calm down." Carlisle begged, now standing in between Leah and Jacob.
"Calm down!? You want me to calm down!?" Jacob screamed, panting heavily and heatedly. His face becoming more and more red, and his control was slipping. The glare Jacob was giving Carlisle made a chill run down Carlisle's spine. He recognized that glare, however, he knew Jacob was trying to protect his son. "How do you expect me to calm down when Leah has claimed my son!?"
"I didn't claim him!"
"Imprinting is just the same as claiming!" Jacob screamed again, his attention back at Leah, his heart craved for him to morph and force Leah to break her imprint. Through his teeth, he continued. "He is mine! Daniel is my son!"
"Jacob-"
"Stay out of this, Doc!"
Carlisle paused, feeling a familiar pang in his gut.
"Are you seriously going to try to keep me from him? How about I try to keep you from Jayme!? Think it's that easy!?"
"Sure as hell can try. I don't care if it's a wolf thing or not, you will stay away from him."
"You know I can't! I care for Danny-"
"I said don't call him that!"
"Jacob, please." Carlisle walked forward and gripped Jacob's bicep gently. Suddenly, Jacob turned and grabbed Carlisle's hand tightly.
"Get off!" Jacob shouted, grabbing Carlisle and throwing him hard into a tree, and landed with a loud thud. Gasping sharply, and instinctively, Carlisle put his hand up stopping the rest of his family from yelling at Jacob. The pain was similar to when Emmett threw him, or when his father threw him. At times, he was used to the pain. But he can't fight off the shock the pain causes from suddenly being thrown into the trunk of a tree. He looked up at the twins, watching them leap and land a few yards from Jacob, fire in their palms. Jacob, however, was more distracted from what he did. Putting both of his hands in his hair, his eyes went wide in horror and shame. "Carlisle...doc... I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"I'm fine, it's nothing I have not been through before." Carlisle lied. He knew he had at least a few broken ribs, hopefully no internal bleeding. Shakily, he got back to his feet. "Girl's, I'm not telling you again, back down."
Ow, ow, ow, Carlisle thought, feeling Edward's hand grasp his arm.
"Listen to me, Jacob," Carlisle managed to say. When he was a vampire, he didn't feel any pain. Now that he was enduring a pain similar to the pain from his past. Something he didn't miss from his past. Without the constent, burning pain, he would be able to give a Presidential speech. Everyone was looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to continue. He took a deep breath, ignoring the pain. "Daniel and Michael are going to need their family, that means both you and Leah. As far as any of us know, they are the only twins born from a Hybrid and a wolf; they are born more wolf than vampire. They may possess the ability to morph, they might not. But we won't know until they have grown. If they do, what happens then? They may be more dangerous, maybe a bit more hard to control. But maybe they won't. We do not have any knowledge of something like them ever existing. We all need to work together to raise them, and means living with Leah imprinting on him."
