Dean-
"Hello?", I said.
"Why would you do that? What do you want in return?", she asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"I don't want anything. I'm doing this for her because I love her and I know you hate me, but I just hope you show up when the time comes. I know it would mean a lot to her", I said.
"Okay and where will you be?", she asked.
"In the waiting room", I said.
"Okay", she said.
We ended the conversation there. I sighed and sat on the back steps. I imagined Maddie running around back here, I could buy her a swing set and a sandbox. I smiled.
"Dean", I looked over my shoulder to see Aly.
"What are you doing back here?", she asked.
I helped her sit behind me, her bump pressing into my back. Her arms went around my neck.
"Just thinking, picturing our little girl running around back here", I said.
"That's sweet", she said, her fingers playing with my hair.
"What are you doing up? I thought I left you in bed", I said.
"Couldn't sleep, my back is aching a bit", she said.
"Come on, let's get you to bed", I said standing.
"Actually, can we make a detour to the bathroom. I really have to go and I don't think I can hold it anymore", she said.
I nodded and helped her up. She made her way to the bathroom while I locked up. I wiped my eyes.
"Dean", she called.
I made my way to the bathroom. She opened the door.
"I think my water just broke, either that or I just peed myself", she said.
"But it's not time yet, you still have a few weeks", I said.
"Like I've said before, she can come early. Plan B Dean", she said.
I helped her out of the bathroom, making sure she doesn't fall. Helping her upstairs, we stopped half way and she squeezed my hand.
"Fuck that hurt", she said, breathing in and out.
"Ready?", I asked.
She nodded and we continued to our room. I turned on the shower for her and she got undressed and into the shower.
"Call Brie please", she said.
I nodded and called her.
"Hello?", she was probably asleep.
"Hey, it's baby time", I said, grabbing Alyssa's overnight bag and taking it downstairs.
"What? Really?", she asked.
"Yup", I said.
"Okay, Roman and I are on our way", she said.
"Take your time, she might be a while", I said.
"Want me to call her mom?", she asked.
"No, I'll do it", I said.
I hung up with her and called her mom back.
"What now?", she asked.
"Baby's coming. I don't know if you want to meet us here at home or at the hospital", I said.
"I'll go to yours", she said, before hanging up.
I went back upstairs. Aly was just getting out and she was holding onto the counter.
"Just breathe baby", I whispered and rubbed her back.
"Please don't touch me, that's not comforting at all", she said.
I removed my hand. Once she stood up straight, I helped her get dressed and downstairs.
"Did you get the bag?", she asked.
I nodded.
"Don't forget to put our phone chargers in there and her outfit is in there too right", she said, sitting down on the couch.
I ran upstairs and grabbed our chargers. I placed them in the bag and made sure Maddie's outfit was in there. I zipped it up and a truck pulled in.
"Roman and Brie are here", I said.
"Did you call Nikki and Seth? Oh I need to call my dad and mom", she was going to get up and I stopped her.
"I'll do it Lys", I said.
I helped her sit back. Pulling my phone out and calling Seth.
"Yo", he answered.
"Baby time", I said.
"Really? Now? Okay, so do we meet at your place or hospital?", he asked.
"She'll be a while so, once we are at the hospital I'll call you guys", I said.
"Okay, we will be waiting", he said.
I called her dad next and he said he would be on the first flight out. I walked back in and Alyssa's mom was here, along with Roman and Brie.
"Hey, you ready to be a dad?", Roman asked smiling.
I chuckled.
"Man, I just can't wait to hold her for the first time", I said.
Brie was holding Alyssa's hand through a contraction.
"Just think, in a few hours you're going to be holding Maddie for the first time", Brie said, brushing Alyssa's hair back.
Her mom was placing a warm towel on Alyssa's forehead. Her mom looked at me, I sent her a nod.
It was around four in the morning when we made our way to the hospital. I sent a text to Seth, he agreed to pick up Aly's dad once he arrived. We were in Alyssa's hospital room, her mom looked at me.
"Can we talk for a minute Dean?", she asked.
I nodded. I kissed the side of Alyssa's head. She squeezed my hand.
"Where are you going?", she asked.
"I'll be right back, give me a quick second", I said.
She nodded and Brie took my place. I followed Marissa, we stopped down the hall.
"I'm still going to be in there with her, yes", she said.
I nodded and pushed my hands into my pockets.
"Yes", I said.
She nodded and walked back to the room. I stayed out in the hall and took a deep breath, leaning back against the wall.
"Hey, Alyssa's asking for you", Roman said.
I was about to head to her, but Roman stopped me.
"What's going on? You aren't getting cold feet are you?", Roman asked.
I chuckled.
"No, I made a deal with Aly's mom. She gets to be in the delivery room with her and Brie", I said.
"But you were looking forward to being there", he said.
I nodded and looked down at my feet before looking back at him.
"Aly needs her", I said.
He nodded and we walked back to the room. Dr. Bayley smiled at me.
"Ready to be a dad? Looks like Maddie can't wait anymore", she said.
They were getting her ready.
"Okay, if you aren't suppose to be in here please make your way out to the waiting area", Dr. Bayley announced.
The nurses were helping Brie and Marissa and explaining what they needed to do. I walked out with Roman, Bayley stopped.
"Hey, aren't you suppose to be in here?", she asked.
"Her mom and friend got this", I said.
She nodded.
Alyssa-
Bayley was telling me to push and I shook my head.
"Where's Dean? He's suppose to be here", I said, taking deep breaths.
"We traded, he thought it would be better if I was here instead of him", my mom said.
"What, but he's been talking about this for a long time", I said.
I looked at Brie.
"Find him, please I need him", I cried.
Brie nodded and brushed my hair back.
"He's just going to mess things up, he's better off outside", my mom said.
I glared at her.
"I want you out, get out", I yelled.
Dr. Bayley told a nurse to get my mom out. She looked shocked.
"You're causing stress to the mother which can cause stress to the labor and baby. Please leave this room ma'am", Bayley said.
"Find Dean, please", I begged Brie.
She nodded and left.
Dean-
I paced the waiting room, biting my nails.
"Hey, baby?", Seth and Nikki walked in.
Alyssa's dad behind them.
"How is she? Has she had the baby? Why are you out here? I thought you said you were going to be in the room with her? Is she alone?", he kept asking questions quickly.
"Brie and her mom are in there with her", I said.
Marissa came out angry, she sat in a waiting chair.
"What are you doing out here? Why aren't you with Lys?", I asked.
She ignored me. Brie came running out and pulled my arm.
"She wants you, not her, you Dean. Come on", she said out of breath.
I didn't question it, I followed. Dr. Bayley was telling Aly to push, but she shook her head no.
"Aly he's on his way, but you need to push", she said.
I quickly made my way to Aly.
"Baby, I'm here. You need to push doll face", I said, before kissing the side of her head.
"Where were you?", she asked.
"I thought you would want your mom here more", I said.
She shook her head no.
"Push Alyssa", Bayley said.
Brie-
It felt like forever, but she was finally here. I left Dean and Aly alone to share a moment with their new born daughter. Walking out into the waiting room, everyone stood.
"She's here and absolutely beautiful", I said smiling.
Roman hugged me.
"Can we see her?", Nikki asked.
I nodded and turned so they could follow me. Walking into Aly's room, Dean was holding Maddie in his arms.
"Look at her", Nikki said, taking a peek.
Dean smiled. He was in love.
"Hi Maddie, I'm grandpa", her dad said.
Dean looked at him.
"Want to hold her?", he asked.
Aly's dad nodded and Dean handed the baby over to him. He moved towards Alyssa and kissed the side of her head.
Dean-
After everyone held her and left for the night, I watched Madeline sleep. Her chest rising and falling, my smile never leaving my face. I lightly touched her stomach.
"You are so beautiful", I whispered.
I left her to sit beside Alyssa, she was sound asleep too.
"I love you", I whispered to her.
Alyssa opened her eyes and smiled.
"Be my girl?", I asked.
"Yes", she replied softly.
