How I Remembered You
Disclaimer: I don't own One Piece.
After that big adventure on their last New World Island, Nami decided to have a chance to just feel relaxed by tending to her tangerine grove. It was early in the morning but luckily that her husband was up earlier and made her breakfast; it was tasty and it filled her up energy. She soared to get started that Luffy had to remind her to pick up her equipment, she blushed at that yet she did it anyways.
Sanji was now down in the dumps once again that his captain had beaten him to serve breakfast to Nami but Robin got him back on his feet when she asked him to make meals for the rest of the crew; Sanji wanted not to be beaten to Robin by Luffy. After everyone else had breakfast, they went to do what they do best while noticing that Luffy isn't with Nami but lying on the Sunny's head.
Nami continued to tend to her tangerines until the red of dawn settled in the sky and she took a break from the work. When she did, she noticed that someone left her some snacks for her to eat; she smiled at the display around the snacks was nothing that Sanji would but her husband. As she ate, she began to feel terrible that this is the first time in a while and the first time since their secret marriage that they never talked to each other; she hoped that she didn't hurt Luffy by accident.
Then music filled the air, not from Brook, came from the front of the Sunny. Nami never listened to such smoothing and sweet tones so she went to see who was playing and discovered a rare sight: Luffy was playing the panpipes of the song that Nami seemed to recognize from when she was an infant, when Bellemere would sing this song to send her to sleep at night even if she is sad or upset for some reason.
The Luffy stopped playing and turned to where Nami was hiding,
"Do you like this song, Catstar?" Nami had to bang this into her head again: nothing can hide from her captain unless he wants them to remain that way. She went out of her hiding spot to join her husband on the Sunny figurehead; he continued his song that seemed to make Nami nod off the sleep in her husband's arms when she snapped out of her trance,
"That is a nice song..." Luffy stopped playing in order to listen to his wife at which she smiled, "Where did you learn it?"
Luffy also smiled, "Back when you guys disappeared, I was left all alone frightened and lonely." Nami dropped her head at how she made her soon-to-be husband hurt inside like that when he placed his hand on hers to make her feel better; it wasn't her action just to change heart and stop it. "Then I found these panpipes just next to me and I tried to learn how to play it when I remembered what my mother told me." Luffy explained that reminded Nami that his mother died when he was five, "She told me to remember her song that allows helped me tuck into bed at night and I tried it. It was a long time but the song still helped me keep a calm mind in those dark moments one can experience in life."
Nami found it all hard to take in that in a sudden moment that a person like Luffy learned how to play music so he could move forward to meet his crew again.
"Also..." Luffy said that caught Nami's attention again, "This song was the thing to remind me of you Nami." Nami couldn't believe her ears,
"Really?" Luffy nodded and Nami felt her heart sparked like fireworks as she hugged her husband; Luffy went back to play the panpipes, this time for everyone to hear. The music was very smoothing, like polished marble and straight forward like a child that seemed to calm even the savage New World Sea.
Nami felt like she is with her foster mother all over again; with her playing the song to tuck her to sleep at night. Luffy's body was like a warm bed in the cold air around the ocean; she felt like she could go to sleep anytime. Luffy noticed and placed his Strawhat on his wife's crown and kissed her with passion that she enjoyed.
I don't know if this is good news or bad news but this whole special event between the captain and navigator did not go unnoticed. The rest of the crew listened to the whole thing the 'love birds' enjoy (they are not sure captain and the navigator are married). While Sanji was chained until he calmed down, the crew decided to express the big moment of romance in their ranks in their own ways; Zoro decided to share the evening up in the Crow's Nest with Robin, Usopp showed Kaya the necklace that he made with objects from the last island which she loved second to the creator himself, Chopper wrote notes of this night and went back to making medicine, Brook went to his room to think how to make all this into a song to share the same feeling, Franky finished his latest creation with a little something reserved for his captain, and Merry and the boys all just smiled at the closeness that their friends are to each other. The whole evening was smooth, calm, and peaceful; prefect for that occasion that Luffy brought up. Luffy also saw how his crewmates were enjoying the evening; in the New World, that doesn't happen in everyone's' lives often.
Nami finally fell asleep knowing that her husband has a way of remembering her by playing that song that his mother taught him. It really pained her if Luffy should ever be lonely again so she quietly promised not to make her husband feel like that again. He smiled and fell asleep with his wife under the moon that radiated the entire ship as if it was a colored lantern.
