chapter 36

Just a little more to go then you can rest. I told my body while walking home, but when I came across the park I couldn't help but stop.

Carefully as though it might crumble, I brought up my hand touching the bark of the tree I had first found him beneath. Meeting Hiei and the others, facing danger at every corner. Everything had all started here.

It has been almost 3 years since I last saw everyone not counting Carrie and Kurama who had returned to visit last year.

"Hie." I whispered. His harsh voice still lingered in my memory, and If I closed my eyes long enough I could still see his red ones gazing back. I shook my head, it's been so long he probably didn't have a single thought about me.

Reluctantly I willed myself to take my hand off and walk away, but not before looking back one last time.

I was beginning to see why my parents had wanted me to quit school, I wouldn't have had the energy. Taking over the Company itself required full uses of the mind and body in which case were both worn out.

I collapsed on my bead exhausted after another long tiring day. Bringing my knees to my chest I curled myself into a ball. Right away I could feel sleep beginning to take me, enveloping me like a blanket. I'm so tired.

It was times like these my mind let itself wonder and I realized how truly alone I felt. Carrie had been in demon world for 3 years now and I never thought i would miss her this much. Kurama barely let her call, and when he did it was hard not let how I felt slip. It would only burden her and the others so I kept my feelings to myself.

A slight thud brought me out of my thoughts. By impulse I stood up from my bed and slowly moved toward the window. I stopped before hearing it again and I inched closer. I squinted trying to see the source of the noise. Suddenly a hand shot up grabbing the outside sill.

"Ahhhhhh!" I screamed falling backwards.

A head followed next staring at me with red eyes that shone despite the darkness. I widened my eyes as the realization hit me. Hiei

"Hiei!" I shot up fumbling to unlock the latch. He lifted himself inside the room before stumbling to the side. I gasped lightly, helping him steady.

"Your hurt why..?" I fretted at the injuries, that were sloppily bandaged. Suddenly his body pitch forward leaning against my shoulder. Not expecting his sudden action I froze.

"Why?" He spoke. "Why is that the both of you are so much alike? Why you?"

It felt as if my heart had died, I knew exactly what he meant. He went limp applying all his weight on top of me. He fainted.

I drug him to the bed letting him sleep. As I gazed at his face my chest squeezed. Why did this hurt so much and make me happy at the same time? I knew nothing about him. Every time I got a step closer he would move even further away from my reach. Finally it came to me, I was in love.

I love him. Tears sprung to my eyes. Why him? Why this man who could never be reached or be able to love another? Because he had never been taught to.

I could still hear the faucet drip after washing away the evidence of my tears. I looked long and hard into my refection hoping for an answer, when I didn't find one I left with a heavy heart.

I stopped at my door taking a deep breath before opening it.

It was like I was reliving a memory, as he stood by the the opened window now awake. Except I had a feeling this would be the last time I would ever see him again.

"Your not coming back are you?" I broke the silence. "It's what you came to tell me isn't it?"

He stayed quite before giving me an answer. "I owe you that much."

"Well if this is goodbye, thank you for everything you've done for me." I bowed my head.

He scoffed. "Why are you thanking me?"

"I owe you that much." I smiled.

"Hmph." He smirked turning to the window.

With every step he took my resolve weakened. My hand reached forward and I couldn't hold it in any longer.

I leapt forward. "Wait!" I latched onto his back. "Please don't go."

He didn't turn, and only stiffened from my touch.

"..I love you..." I whispered.

His silence answered me, more than his words ever could. He had to leave and He was going no matter what.

"I know you can't ever feel the same, but I can't help it." Tears blurred my vision and I tightened my grip. "So please just this once."

I had set myself up for rejection, no doubt in a few seconds I'd be fixing a broken heart. But that was okay, I had known by loving him it wouldn't be a happily ever after.

"Do you realize what your implying?" He asked breaking his silence. "Demon's are possessive by nature and do not share. You will never be allowed to be with another man, even if this is the last we see of each other. The moment you try I will kill him and trust me I'll know."

He glanced out of the corner of his eye. "I will give you one minute to reconsider, and after that you cannot refuse."

Thoughts raced through my mind. Was I really willing to give up having a family, marriage, children and being a mother in exchange for this one night?

"I am done waiting." He turned. "Have you made your decision?"

With trembling hands, I reached out and gripped the fabric of his cloak, pulling him toward me. I stood on the tip of my toes cupping his face and ever so gently lowering his lips onto mine. When I felt his soft, warm lips touch mine, my heart raced.

I don't know how long I had been standing there kissing him and somewhere inside I feared he might push me away. But he slowly started responding before I pulled my lips from his. I hesitantly Opened my eyes to find his wide open in shock.

He hadn't expected that and I thought I had made a mistake before his lips crashed back onto my own.

It wasn't sweet or romantic, like every girl imagined. It was rough and there had been no love but yet he had still been gentle in his own way, that itself was enough for me.

And as I expected, he was long gone when I awoke. In his place, lay a crystal blue tear connected to a black thread, making it resemble a necklace.

I lifted it gently as if it would disappear, just looking at it overwhelmed me with a strange sense of calmness. As I continued to admire the stone, I noticed something. Encircling my wrist was a small black dragon.

I had been claimed by the dragon himself.

Don't worry it's not over there's still more to come! and yes they did the dirty deed
