Let Your Silence Sing

Chapter 36

"I feel like one of those show poodles. Is there a reason for this?" I grumbled, trying to shake Road's fingers out of my hair. "No, bad girl. Keep those away from me."

Ever since Apocryphos had kidnapped me, I wasn't allowed to be left on my own, much to my own chagrin. No, really. I am so pissed off right now.

At this moment, Road had her tiny, grabby hands stuck in my hair, and Tyki and Allen were sitting across from us, alternating between staring at me in amusement as I attempted to remove Road from my hair (read: rat nest), and glaring at each other. Some sort of macho contest I didn't want to get involved in, I suppose.

"If Apocryphos comes back-"

"But he won't," I interrupted Tyki.

Tyki gave me something of a glare. "And how do you know that?"

That was a good question. How did I know? I guess because what he tried to tell me was a rather 'goodbye' subject, but what did I know. Plus, if I started to mention what he was talking about, I would have to explain the whole thing, and I would rather figure it out myself than have them butting in everywhere. I found myself replying, "Because I am omnipotent."

"Uh huh," Tyki retorted, crossing his arms disbelievingly.

I stood up abruptly, forcing Road to the side with a squeal. "Well, I am done with this. Goodnight, sir!" I snapped. After a whole day of being watched, my patience was drawing thin, and if one of these morons tried to stop me from leaving, I would've totally gone all badass ninja kung-fu attack on them.

I was almost disappointed when no one tried to stop me. Relieved, but disappointed.

"Desiree?" an annoying voice asked, reminding me strangely of Grell.

"What?" I grumbled, irritated at being woken up. I cracked an eye open to glare at the man at the base of the bed.

"Oh hell no!" I yelled, shocked and even more pissed off to find Sheril perched there. "Get out, you fucktard!"

Sheril raised an eyebrow. "Is that the best you can do? I've heard much worse from the twins."

"Little shit, dick, bitch-monkey, cunt, fucker, hell-nugget, son of a bit-"

Sheril sighed and interrupted my tirade with a, "I can see why Tyki likes you."

I blinked, unable to process what he had said. When I did, I replied, "Nope. We're not going there. Let's reintroduce; hi I'm Desiree. Don't talk about Tyki and we'll get along just swell." His face twitched. "How did you get in here, anyway?" I was certain I had locked the door.

"I walked through the door."

"You're not Tyki."

"No. I opened the door and walked in."

"I don't trust you farther than I can throw you."

He held out his arms. "Ready at any time, lady!"

"You are so-!"

"Amazing, imaginative, clever…"

"Annoying, probably heavy, and possibly the dumbest social speaker I have ever had the displeasure of meeting," I growled.

He clutched at his chest. "Oh, that hurt." Were all Noah this theatrical? He opened his mouth, then smacked his lips together as if tasting something nasty (and invisible). "I digress. I came here to talk about Monica and Tyki."

"No thanks," I sweatdropped, standing to leave.

"He loves you, you know," he said. I half turned to him, then sighed and sat back down, drawing my legs up to my chest.

"Let's get this over with, I suppose. I can't avoid you forever," I muttered. I cringed, waiting for the terrible statement I knew was coming.

"Monica isn't Tyki's fiancée."

I coughed loudly. "Excuse you, I think you messed up some words…?" That was not at all what I expected to hear. "Tyki knows, then?!"

"Not at first- because I am an amazing actor- but he figured it out recently. That's why I am here. He kept trying to get me to tell you."

"Why didn't he do it himself?" I asked, in between being upset and being giddy at this new development.

"Would you have believed him."

"Um…" I thought about it for a second, and was ashamed to admit, "No…" I probably would have thought he wasn't serious and just wanted to get in my pants. That lady-killer. "Wait. Why should I believe you? You hate me!"

He did a dramatic hand flip. "Acting~"

"I don't get it."

He gave me a look and shook his head. "Alright, this is a pretty important story, and I'm not going to repeat it. Listen closely."

"'Kay."

"So, Tyki has said that he's fallen in love with girls before." I rolled my eyes. Of course he had. "And got pretty close to them, but he didn't really love them. He would have been in trouble if it hadn't been for me." Sheril's smile widened. "You see, everything was a ploy! Tyki's not getting married." He snickered. "Pretty convincing, right?"

I smacked him as hard as I could.

"What was that for?" Sheril demanded petulantly.

"Revenge." I blew off my hand dramatically.

"What was convincing was the slap. I still can't believe you hit me!" Tyki complained. Sometime during Sheril's mash-up of a story, he had snuck in.

"I'm sorry, little brother, but it was for your own good."

Hello, rage old friend. Is it time to slap some bitches?

Both brothers groaned in pain as I once again hit them. (Admittedly, I didn't hit Tyki as hard.)

"Well. That was fun. But at this point, I don't even care. Either you get out of my room, or I'll leave."

The brothers shared a nervous glance, obviously suspicious of my sudden mood change. As it was, they had to deal with Noah-mood-swings every day, and realized it would probably be better for them to leave.

They were lucky this time. I narrowed my eyes after them dangerously.

After I was alone, I sank down on my bed, and let my head lean forwards to my legs. Tears started falling from my eyes again. I couldn't tell if they were from happiness or not.

"Neah did you hear that?" I asked, knowing that he was most likely spying on me (as usual).

"Yup."

"And you knew this?"

"Yup."

"Can you turn substantial?"

He floundered, "Uh… I don't trust you at all."

"Yeah… you shouldn't." I turned my evil shark grin on him. "You said earlier that you could tell me what was going on. I'm still holding you to that."

Neah sighed and ran his left hand through his hair. "Sure… but come here."

"Uh… why?" I asked, starting to walk over to him. He didn't answer until I was close enough that he could grab me and pull me into his substantial lap.

"I like your hair," he finally responded, running his hands through my long hair. I made a purring sound and snuggled into his neck.

"Just because you have magic hands doesn't mean you'll get out of explaining this to me."

He sputtered a bit before settling on saying, "I know." He exhaled loudly, and his arms wrapped around my waist. "So, Monica was never Tyki's fiancée. She was basically hired by Sheril, since he was skeptical that Tyki really loves you."

"He loves me?" I looked at Neah hopefully.

Neah groaned. "Of course he does, you dork."

"But he…"

"For the most part, whatever happened was an act. Monica is a surprisingly good actress." He then correctly interpreted my expression and told me, "I've said it before and I'll say it again, 'Go get your man back'."

"M'kay."

I found Tyki in the library. He had his face buried in a book. Literally. His face appeared to have been smashed into the book.

"Ty…ki…?" I asked cautiously.

He immediately jolted upright. "… Desiree?" he asked, just as cautiously. Slowly, I gave him a smile, trying to tell him I had forgiven him (and not that I wanted to kill him. That misconception sometimes occurred)… I wasn't going to forgive Sheril as easily, though. Tyki treated me to a brilliant smile and reached forwards to hug me.

"Ah, ah," I said, taking a step back. "Nope. If you're interested you have to court me properly!" And now I had Single Ladies stuck in my head. I turned around dramatically.

There was a silence behind me. I twisted my head back around to see Tyki with a very contemplative face. "Alright," he said.

"Wait, you're serious?"

"Were you?" he responded, eyes slightly wider than usual.

I frowned. "Well, yeah but…" My scowl deepened. "Why on earth do you even like me?!" I had to know.

"Well, you're funny. You're beautiful, nice, understanding…"

"Whoa, hold up. What gave you those ideas? Geez, now I'll have to go out of my way to freak you out and make you not like me!"

Tyki grinned at me, "I don't think that's possible."

"Challenge accepted."

"Do I get to make myself disgusting too?" Tyki laughed.

I snorted. "Go for it!"

He turned to leave, presumably to make himself unappetizing, but I stopped him.

"Hang on, what happened to Monica, anyway?"

"Monica?" Tyki seemed surprised. "I think she went to America to study there. Surprisingly, she's very interested in the native cultures there."

"That's crazy!" I exclaimed.

"I know!"

"That crazy!" I repeated. "I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Sheril paid, and that's why she was your fiancée for hire?"

"Exactly. See, you're smart too." His expression suddenly turned very gentle. "I'm just so drawn to you."

"Let me guess, your Noah is in love with me too."

"There you go- you're doing it again!"

"Doing what?" I demanded.

"Being so understanding. You know about my Noah, you know all about the Noah- so much it's scary- and yet you still accept me and the rest of them." I really had nothing to say to that, so I stayed quiet and let Tyki monologue. "You're right, by the way."

"Huh?" I had been distracted from my original question.

"My Noah really likes you. It doesn't make sense, his only purpose is to hate and destroy, just like the rest of the Noah, and yet…" He gave me an unreadable look, but then smirked. "Maybe the mystery draws me in also."

"Mystery, huh?" I mused. He had no idea.

"Later!" Tyki chirped, finally leaving the library.

I blew air out quickly, letting my hair whoosh out in front of me. Should I tell them?

So, I drew a picture of Desiree (it can be found on my Deviantart account- same name). Does anyone reading this draw? Because I would be thankful to the nth degree if someone could draw fanart for me ;u;

Ramble Corner

NAW: Whaaat? What is this, you might ask. Is this real, you might ask. YES. THE RUMORS ARE TRUE! I AM HERE. IT IS I, THE GREAT AND MAGNIFICENT NAW! UPDATING AFTER ONLY 4 DAYS. HAHA SURPRISE!

Neah/Allen: *Eye roll*

NAW: *Coughs* Anyway, now that we have that out of the way, it's thanking time.

Thanks to the follower: Dark-Forest-Clouds!

Thank you to the favouriters: kitsunlover, Azlea, and laurent1991!

And reviewers~ Thanks to:

bloodymaiden95: Thanks so much! ^u^ Don't worry, things look bad now (actually, they've already improved xD), but I promise it'll all work out! I'm not that mean (Neah: Yes you are). Well, not today :P

AnonymouslyResearched: Oh goodness! I'm glad you're excited, and hope I don't let you down ^^;

BlackIrisX: Happy birthday! Ahaha, I'm glad a new chapter was a good birthday present for you~ Here, I'll give you some internet birthday cake! *Hands you cake*

Hades' Neko: I'm glad! I was worried people wouldn't like her backstory eheh. *Bursts out laughing at your reaction* I am so glad you pointed that out~ It will be (sort of) explained later, or at least go into more detail. But just wait until you find out who their father is *Chuckles maniacally while backing off screen*

Allen: NAW doesn't own D. Gray-Man, read and review please!

NAW: So, I realized that my latest chapters have been getting really depressing (see, that's what happens when I get off filler) so I decided that I need to put a couple filler chapters in before it gets serious again. Yeah, that's why Desiree isn't going to address what Apocryphos said until later.

Along with that, I'm not done with the backstory. Oh hoh, nope. You think you know what's goin' on, but wait. There's more.

Also, I've been really confused... Is "Marian" Cross's first or last name? It's been put out that "Cross" is his first name, but I'm just going to ignore that, because Marian isn't a last name -_- So, for my story, his first name is Marian, last name Cross. Just to clear that up.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT: Yes, this. I have just hit a road block with my story, and I don't know when I'll next update. I've just kind of gotten out of writing. Please prompt me TT_TT Like, send me an idea. I'll try to get cracking as soon as I can, but I'm having the worst writers block ever...
