-ON THE BACKS OF DRAGONS-

-True Power-

The deep powerful rumble of the ice sheets yielding to the Human Icebreaker as it crushed a path through the frozen sea was intimidating for Dawnwing. No one had the power to force their way through nature like this, yet it was happening right in front of her. The key wasn't someone; it was some-many, a stunning combination of Dragon abilities and human engineering. A human ability that she had to admit just kept getting more and more impressive each time she saw it.

Currently she was on the bow of the Adventure, she had lead them this far but Toothless told her to take a break and rest her wings, She needed to be at full strength when they arrive at the nest. They were almost there, a short flight away but the ice sheets were slowing the human's progress, a fact that made her very impatient. How did her brother put up with such slowness?

The deck of the ship was warm providing comfort for her against the cold air, her black scales absorbing what the sun offered her as she thought back on the pack under Sharpfang's care. The lack of structure was obvious with almost everything in disarray but before everyone blamed it on the harsh conditions. Most of the females had to go on the hunts only leaving a few behind to guard and keep the eggs from freezing. Dawnwing, Moonscale, and some others had even decided not to lay eggs of their own, mainly because they couldn't hope to raise offspring in their current condition.

And yet now she rested on a marvel of creativity and teamwork, her brother, the humans, everyone united in this grand alliance had discovered but more importantly wielded true power. And now that true power was coming to those who needed it most. . .

"Sister, it's time."

On the Backs of Dragons

The two Alphas followed the female Night Fury as they weaved through frozen canyons carved by ice and time, swift and strong. The saddlebag was stuffed with supplies they both thought would be needed, mostly dragon nip, medicine and bandages, and a blanket incase someone succumbed to the cold. As the black winged reptiles flew fast and low, their sleek and sharp, aerodynamic figures were reduced to a blur in their reflections on the ice below.

Suddenly Toothless' body tensed as a wave of new scents were detected, Night Furies, mostly female but their were some males, albeit juveniles. But the emotions that accompanied the scent were most alarming: Depression, hopelessness, fear. It was unacceptable.

Toothless told his sister to go on ahead as he broke off to find a more "Inspirational" entrance. . .

On the Backs of Dragons

As soon as the other Night Furies caught her scent Dawnwing was swarmed with questions, hoping that she would bring them any sort of good news no matter how small, just anything to help them keep going just a little longer. But she lost them when she mentioned the Bewilderbeast, soon coming to the conclusion she was crazy when she asked them a question.

"Who else do you smell?"

The scent of a young male was still fresh on her, now having recaptured their attention she explained she just didn't find another nest of Night Furies, but the one lead by the Alpha himself.

Again the other females surrounded her with questions about the Alpha, his size, age, if he had a mate and so many other things when someone else spoke up:

"Is it Nightclaw?" A certain female asked, her eyes were a slightly paler green then Toothless' and her build was thinner, but much more flexible. Moonscale.

"What about Nightclaw!" Another voice roared, this time male as the leader of the pack stormed in, hissing at the females in his path until his eyes crossed with Dawnwing's.

"So, Dawnwing, your efforts to abandon us proved fruitless didn't they?" He sneered, "Come back to beg for mercy? Or did you think I wouldn't notice?"

"No, no, and no." Dawnwing grinned, "I did not abandon this pack, I found help for it. I didn't come here to beg for your mercy because I know you don't have any and I knew you would notice, I was counting on it."

Sharpfang growled as he bared his teeth and prepared to attack; sensing the coming bloodshed the females hid their offspring under their own wings as time seemed to slow.

"That was a mistake, a very deadly mistake." Sharpfang growled as he began to pounce but stopped when a powerful roar sounded out, amplified in the frozen caves. All eyes went wide as their minds deciphered the sound:

Strength, the unrelenting force achieved through experience and raw power made everyone who heard it feel small and weak, like the tiniest candle's flame to be swallowed by the night.

Wisdom, the balance of control and discipline within the sound told wonders of the challenger's judgment and knowledge. The one thing Sharpfang most certainly lacked.

And last was confidence, a fiery pride and self worth achieved through doing the impossible multiple times but humble and without ego.

To the Females and juveniles it brought hope and joy, just the mere tone was inspiring as if all that was unwell was ripped down like a curtain to let the bright sun shine through. To Sharpfang, he knew he had no chance; he couldn't possibly dare take on the Alpha. But to Moonscale, well let's just say she would have cried if it was possible.

"Uh, Show yourself intruder?" Sharpfang managed to squeak as he started to back up when the ceiling behind him collapsed on his tail. As the snow began to settle a blue glow could be seen, and heard.

"Make your choice Sharpfang, stand down and face your crimes, fight, or flight." The Alpha ordered. It didn't take long for Sharpfang to decide as he began to cower away and take flight.

"Good riddance." The Alpha scoffed as he became fully revealed, or rather both of them. The Night Furies reaction to Hiccup was the same of all mothers to intruders near their children, protective and deadly. Thankfully the human Alpha managed to win them over with a generous dose of Dragon Nip, scratches, and treating their wounds no matter how minor.

When reinforcements arrived to help the Night Furies relocate onto a ship, things started to settle down, the Adults were simply too exhausted to resist and the juveniles were, well, juveniles, you know how that is.

When the convoy turned around to head back to Berk, Toothless found some unexpected company from Moonscale, I'll spare you the details but they caught up and by the time it was over, they had pressed their heads together and marked the other with their scent. Two childhood friends that were separated for years just made sure they wouldn't get separated again. . .
