Jon was sitting in the garage at his work station. He still couldn't shake what Adriana had told him. He was desparate to not be paranoid about anything but he couldn't help himself. If Adriana was planning on hurting herself then Jon was going to everything he could to stop her. He was shaken out of his thoughts when he heard someone call his name.
"Jonathan? Aren't you coming to bed? It's late."
Adriana had been waiting and waiting for him to come to bed. She slowly stepped into the garage but kept the door open with one had.
"Go back to bed. I'll be there in a minute."
"That's what you said two hours ago."
"Dammit, Adriana. Can you just leave me the hell alone?"
"No. Shut up and come to bed."
Jon shot up and knocked over the stool he was sitting on. Adriana was unfazed by this. She simply stared at her husband who was wearing nothing but a pair of jeans. Jon was barefoot and his curly hair was wild.
"Get out."
"Make me."
Jon walked up to his wife and looked at her dead in the eyes.
"I'm warning you: get out. For your own good."
"I'm not going anywhere until you get out of the garage."
Irritated, Jon cut off the light and brushed past Adriana into the house. Adriana closed the garage door and locked it. Sighing, she headed back to the room. When she entered into the room, she found Jon putting on his socks and shoes.
"Where are you going?"
"Out."
"Jonathan, it's three in the damn morning!"
"I don't give a damn. I was minding my own business in the garage until you showed up."
"I didn't do anything wrong! Why are you treating me this way?"
Jon finished tying his shoes and looked up at his wife. Shaking his head, he headed to the drawer and grabbed a white t-shirt and slipped it on.
"Part of me still doesn't trust you. You say that you've had the urge to harm yourself and that you haven't gone through with it. You probably have harmed yourself and you're just lying to me."
"I'm not."
"Fucking liar."
"I'm not a liar! Stop calling me that!"
"LIAR!"
Adriana quickly walked up to Jonathan and slapped him across the face.
"How could you do this to me?" Adriana said.
Before he knew it, Jon wrapped his hands around Adriana's neck and began to choke her.
Jon abruptly woke up out of his sleep. He wasn't choking Adriana like he thought he was. Instead he was dreading the day ahead of him. He slowly got up and stretched. Then he proceeded to the bathroom where he brushed his teeth and washed his face. Jon wasn't going to bother shaving the small stubble on his face. He turned on the shower head and stepped in. The hot water splashed against Jon's skin which felt great at the moment. Jon ran his fingers through his hair and let the water continue to comfort him. Unfortunately, he would have to step back out of the shower and go to work for the day.
After getting dressed, Jon kissed Adriana on her lips and said: "I love you." He pulled back the covers and lifted up Adriana's nightgown and planted a kiss on her stomach.
"I love you, Tia."
He quickly pulled Adriana's nightgown over her stomach again and pulled the blanket over her again before leaving and giving the other kids kisses. Maddy, Jasmine, Michael, and Aiden were still sound asleep in their rooms. J.J. was in the living room watching t.v.
"Hey you," Jon said. He gave J.J. a kiss on his forehead and knelt down in front of him. J.J. wasn't smiling like he usually did. "What's wrong, kiddo?"
"Is Mommy going to be okay?" J.J. asked.
"Yes she is. Don't worry," Jon said.
"Good. Because I don't want her coming after me again!" J.J. said.
"Aww. I'll have Jackie and grandma Gwen come check on you," Jon said.
"Good!"
J.J. perked up and kissed his father on his cheek.
"Have a nice day at work, Dad."
"Thank you. Look after your mother. And if she explodes, hide from her."
Jon had arrived to work thirty minutes early. It was still early in the morning. Jon downed his coffee, leaned back in the driver's seat, and closed his eyes. He decided to wait for Gus to get to work. In the meantime, getting some extra rest was what Jon wanted for the time being. But even though Jon was trying to clear his mind, he couldn't stop thinking about certain things. Adriana in particular. Jon was hoping this day would be over quickly so that he could head back home and lay down in his bed. He would only be at work for six hours. But six hours was still too long. Jon wanted to start his car up and leave work and return home. But he needed to go to work and needed to stop being so paranoid. Reluctantly stepping out of his car, Jon closed the door to the car and locked it. He heard someone call out his name as soon as he was towards the entrance to the police station.
"Morning, Officer Good!" Sarah said.
Jon turned around and waved at Sarah.
"Mornin'," he said. He walked up the stairs to the entrance and held the door for Sarah as she walked up the stairways.
"How're you?" Sarah said as she passed Jon.
"I'm okay," Jon said. He checked his phone to see if the children or Adriana had text him or called him since he had his phone on silent.
"Just okay?" Sarah said.
Jon looked up at Sarah who had a slight look of concern on her face.
"Yeah. I'm okay. Just want this day to be over is all."
Jon finally made it to his desk and plopped down in his chair. He didn't have a problem with Sarah but he definitely wasn't in the mood to be dealing with her. She still harbored feelings for him and still tried to hit on him even though she was fully aware that Jon had a family. That didn't stop her from trying to get at Jon. Just like now. Sarah brought Jon a cup of coffee and sat it down on his desk.
"How come a handsome guy like you has a frown on his face this morning?" Sarah asked. She was admiring Jon's stubble on his face and his blue eyes. His hair was also slicked back. Sarah's mouth started to water a little the more she stared at Jon's arms, which were muscular. His dark blue shirt that had sleeves that stopped at his elbows and also exposed some of his clavicle bone.
"I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but can I be left alone right now? I have a lot on my mind."
Jon was beyond done with Sarah at this point. He wanted to throw the coffee back in her face.
"Aww, you don't want to talk to me?" Sarah pressured. "If your cousin was here, you would want to talk to him!"
"That's because he's my cousin," Jon responded.
"Don't be mean!"
Sarah took her hair out of the ponytail that it was in and stood in front of Jon. She touched his left thigh but her hand was immediately grabbed by Jon's.
"Don't. Touch. Me."
"Why!? I'm just trying to make you feel better!"
"Leave me alone!"
Jon finally managed to get rid of Sarah for the rest of the day. He was more than glad to patrol the city with Gus to finish off the day. Luckily, nothing happened that day. Jon was able to finish a day of work with no more problems and finally get back home. Adriana and the kids were fine for the most part. Adriana was still hungry even though she ate three full course meals when Jon was gone. Gwen had decided to spend the night to make sure Jon, Adriana, and the children were okay. Especially Jon and Adriana. She hated seeing them fight. Especially in front of the children. There had been a few times where the arguments between Jon and Adriana had escalated to the point where they ended up hurting each other and making the kids upset in the process at seeing their parents mad at each other. Even though his siblings were aware that their father had PTSD and their mother had postpartum depression, they still didn't like seeing their parents argue. J.J., however, had partially gotten used to the arguments. He had to remind his siblings that their parents were not going to leave each other and that this was normal. The arguments, that is. Not the actual fights that either left Jon was a busted lip or Adriana with bruises on her arms. Gwen knew what Jon and Adriana were going through. She hoped that they could overcome their obstacles and end the physical abuse they inflicted on one another whenever they got angry. One thing is for certain: Jon and Adriana truly loved each other. That was a given from day one.
1999:
"Mrs. Germanotta...I mean Mom...dang, I do not know why I keep messing your name up! I'm sorry...Um...I have a question about sex," Jon said.
Mrs. Germanotta stopped knitting her quilt and looked at Jon with sincere eyes.
"What is it about sex do you want to know?"
Jon thought for a while.
"Um...does it hurt? If I have sex with Adriana, will it hurt her? I mean, I don't want to have sex with her now. I'm not ready. We're not ready. But I'm just saying when we are ready, will it hurt her?"
"For some, sex is painful. For some it just feels right. She'll tell you whether or not it hurts her. But if it does hurt, it's not your fault or hers. The sex just doesn't feel right."
Jon hugged his mother tightly.
"Thank you! Now I can tell her this!"
Jon resumed watching t.v. as if nothing happened. Mrs. Germanotta could do nothing but smile and continue knitting her quilt.
Present:
"This brownie is good," Adriana said. She was delighted to have dessert after dinner. Jon was rubbing her feet.
"I'm glad you like it," Jon said.
"What's the matter?" Adriana asked.
"What?"
"You haven't said much ever since you got home."
"Nothing. I'll talk to you about it soon. Right now, I want you to relax."
Adriana smiled which caused Jon to smile in return.
"There it is!" Adriana said.
"You goofball!" Jon said.
"I'm glad you two are enjoying your time together. Are you two alright?" Gwen asked. She had brought Jon and Adriana blankets in case they fell asleep on the couch while watching t.v.
"Yup," Adriana said. "These brownies have walnuts in them...hmm...didn't notice."
"You'd eat a horse if you could!" Gwen said.
"I definitely would," Adriana said.
Jasmine came into the living room and sat on Jon's lap.
"What's up, buttercup?" Jon said.
"I just wanted to watch t.v. with you, mommy, and grandma," Jasmine said.
Jon kissed Jasmine's forehead.
"We're watching your favorite: Tom and Jerry," Jon said.
"Yay!" Jasmine said.
Adriana finished her brownie then slowly got up from the couch.
"I need to use the bathroom," she said. "I'll be back."
Gwen sat down in the recliner and let the seat back so she could get comfortable. Jasmine was holding onto Jon's fingers and trying to squeeze them as hard as she could, which amused Jon.
Almost fifteen minutes had passed and Adriana hadn't returned. Gwen noticed this first.
"Did Adriana fall into the toilet or something?" she said.
"I'll go check on her," Jon said.
"No, I'll go," Gwen said.
She got up and walked to the bathroom in the hallway and knocked on the door.
"Adriana?" she said. Gwen hoped that Adriana wasn't trying to harm herself. Last time she walked in on Adriana attempting suicide was when she thought was Jon had died in Iraq.
"Come in."
Gwen opened the door and walked into the bathroom. Adriana had been standing in front of the mirror admiring herself. Even though Adriana was wearing grey sweats and a plain white t-shirt like her mother, Adriana couldn't help but stare at herself in the mirror for a while.
"You know what? Mom...part of me thinks I look ugly because I've gained weight over the last few years. But part of me thinks I look gorgeous regardless. You know what...I am gorgeous. Just like my mother."
Adriana turned around and gave her mother a kiss on her cheek. Gwen smiled and hugged Adriana.
"You're perfect the way you are," Gwen said.
She gave Adriana a kiss on her cheek, grabbed Adriana's hand, and led her out of the bathroom before Adriana would end up staring at the mirror all night. At least Adriana was speaking positive about herself. The more Adriana remained calm and happy, the less stress she would put on herself and the baby.
"Mom, I want another brownie. This time with milk. Please?" Adriana said.
"Sure thing love," Gwen said.
Adriana was definitely going to eat all of the food in the world while she was pregnant with Tia.
Everything had been going well for the next two weeks until she had arrived at the local bar to give Jon his cell phone that he forgot at home. Even though he was with Gus, she still wanted Jon to have his phone on him. As soon as she walked into the bar, her eyes landed on Jon, who was near the pool tables in the far corner of the bar. There was some girl talking to him and flirting with him. It was Sarah, Jon's co-worker that Adriana didn't really like.
Before she knew it, Sarah had planted a kiss on Jon's lips.
Adriana felt her heart shatter into a billion pieces.
Her husband. Her best friend. The love of her life...was kissing another woman.
