Here it is. MY season finale.
A New Level in Monstering
The main hangar was buzzing with activity, several of Area Fifty-Unknowns cargo jets were being loaded up with building equipment by large forklifts and cranes. It had taken an age but General I.N. Monger and his team of monsters and aliens were finally going to be heading to New York to assist with the repairs caused by Gallaxus. Mayor Baloney had continuously declined their help, instead wanting compensation from them for all the damage that 'they' caused. Conceding that he wasn't going to receive a single cent from the military base he agreed to let Monger and his team help with the rebuilds.
Repairs had been going slowly, the attack was nearly five years ago but many skyscrapers were still unsafe to use, Liberty Island was still without a statue and everything south of Midtown was still inaccessible to the public because of ripped up roads and debris from damaged buildings.
Mayor Baloney had had a very stressful term in office and just wanted his city back up and running again, and if that meant having monsters fix the damage then he had no choice.
General Monger supervised with the loading process, instructing Fang, Bar'Hbi and Ravnivore on where to put the heavy building materials they were carrying. Sqooty was doing calculations on his compocketer on what needed loading on what plane and to make sure they had the right apparatus needed.
"Just a bit more and we'll soon be loaded and ready to leave, General," said the little alien, "By the way, are sure it is a wise idea having aliens in the middle of one of Earths most populated cities?"
"The section you're working in is closed from the public, nobody will see you. And the Mayor will be doing a helicopter sweep of the city to see how things are going so he won't notice you either. Covertron, I told you to get those iron girders loaded!" the General suddenly snapped at the alien who was idling around as he sipped his coffee.
"Surely you don't expect me to do this peasant work? This isn't why I came to Earth, to build buildings!" Covertron said.
"As a matter of fact it IS why you came here! You said you came here to rebuild public relations starting with the damage to the Big Apple!" Monger reminded him.
"Curses! I forgot you humans have some vague form of memory," he grunted as he began using his telekinesis to throw iron girders into one of the jets, disregarding anyone nearby who had to jump out the way.
"Sooner we get these repairs done the better! It's been too long having this whole dilemma hang over me all this time!" sighed Monger as he rubbed his eyes.
Fang then came up to him, carrying a crate filled with bags of sand, "Nnnnrgh, where do you want this thing?" he strained as sweat rolled down his scales, his arms crying in pain from the weight.
"Over by Jet 3," Sqooty pointed to the furthest plane. Fang groaned and slowly made his way over to the plane, Bar'Hbi walked past him carrying the exact same amount but was carrying it like it was filled with pillows. Seeing the snakes weakness made her roll her eyes.
Just then the conveyer platform came to a stop by the hangar entrance; on it was what looked like a giant washing machine the size of a two-floor building. Also on the platform were Sarah, T.O.M and a cackling Dr Sprocket. They leapt off and joined the General.
"I take it that's the super-cement mixer you've been working on?" frowned Monger.
"Indeed, not only could mix the entire cities cement requirements in one go but it can also super strengthen the mixture making the buildings three times stronger than they were before! MWAHAHAHAHA!" laughed Dr Sprocket.
"Only three?" asked Sqooty, "My calculations for this machine would mean it can make it at least seven times,"
Dr Sprocket glared darkly at the alien for ruining his moment.
"Just get it in the plane, Doc! You can brag after we get all the buildings upright again!" ordered Monger.
Sarah then threw her hands up and gave the victory sign, "Yeah, let's get these buildings all built up! Woo! Go Team Monster and everything!"
She then realised everyone was staring at her, even the workman had stopped their forklifts to look.
"Er, Sarah, a bit over enthusiastic? I'd expect something like that from T.O.M!" said Dr Sprocket.
"Yeah, Woo! Go Team Monster!" cheered T.O.M, copying Sarah.
"I er…I'm just really excited to be doing this and er…getting down with the program! Yo!" she said, now trying to act street.
"Titana, what is wrong with you? You're acting very out of character," said Monger.
"I…I don't know what you're talking about!" she said as she rubbed the back of her head, her face going red as everyone continued staring at her.
It was then that Dr Sprocket noticed something. "Hang on a minute!" he then did a quick scan of Sarah and then looked at his fellow monsters, Monger and the aliens, "This isn't Sarah, this is one of her bio-plastic clones,"
"Are you sure?" asked Monger.
"I'm not a clone! I'm the real deal, y'all!" she insisted.
Dr Sprocket was unimpressed as he pointed to her hair, "Your fringe is the wrong way, it should be to the left, not the right."
The clone felt her forehead, "Dammit, I thought I had it!" she muttered to herself.
Monger marched over to her till their noses almost touched, "Look here, whatever your name is…"
"Stephanie."
"…what have you done with the real Titana? If you've harmed her in any way…"
"No, no! Nothing like that! She told me to stand in for her!" she said.
"Why?" asked Fang.
"She's not feeling very well and she didn't want you guys to worry!"
"Where is she now?" demanded Monger.
"In her room but she really doesn't want to be disturbed," said Stephanie, backing away with her hands up.
Ignoring her, General Monger marched out of the hangar with the monsters and aliens in tow.
Stephanie waved her arms as she tried to get their attention back, "Wait! I can still take her place, I can go titanic too! Watch!" she closed her eyes and focused but instead of growing big her neck just got longer and her head hit the ceiling, she collapsed to the floor as her body reeled her head back in, "Ehh, almost got it,"
As they approached Sarah's room they found two more clones standing outside the front door. When they saw the group coming they quickly threw themselves in front of the door.
"Something wrong?" said one.
"Can we help you with anything?" said the other.
"You two stand aside and get back to your base this instant!" Monger ordered them.
"Actually we think we'll stay here, it's nice!" said one, "Nice, erm, vents! Anyways, why are you here?"
Then Stephanie caught up to them, "Sheryl, Samantha, the gig is up, girls! They know."
"Steph, you had one job!" groaned Sheryl.
"I'm sorry, I forgot about the fringe! It's hard to get your hair the way you want it,"
"Tell me about it," said T.O.M as he adjusted the leaves on his tomato head.
Then came a knock on the door which caught the clones by surprise, "It's alright, girls. I can take it from here," came Sarah's voice.
"Are you sure?" asked Samantha.
"Yeah, you did your best; you'd better be getting back now,"
"Okay, back to Area Fifty-Secret we go then," sighed Stephanie.
The three clones took each other's hand and walked down the corridor back to their home.
"The dreams I've had…" Fang said to himself.
Monger then banged on the door, "Titana, ill or not, you know you are not allowed to let your copies roam the base instead of you! Open up!"
"I…I really don't think that's a good idea, General," said Sarah.
"Open. This. Door!"
"But General, I'm…"
"NOW!"
There was a momentary pause and then the door opened up. When they saw the sight of Sarah they all jumped back in shock, Sarah looked like a zombie with her face drained of colour, bags under her eyes and she looked exhausted.
"Hey, guys, Wassup?" she smiled weakly.
"Jesus, Titana! George A. Romero could make a film outta you!" said Monger.
"My dear, you look absolutely terrible!" said Dr Sprocket, "Shouldn't you go see Dr McKenzie?"
"I've been to see her too many times in the last month and besides she's away on a medical conference." Said Sarah, gripping the doorway for support, "I've been feeling weird for ages and recently it's been getting worse. I can't even go titanic!"
The General turned to Dr Sprocket, "Tin Man, get Sarah to your lab and try and work out what's wrong with her!"
"No need, I'll probably shake this thing off, whatever it is," she insisted, "I'll be fine, see?" she took her hand off the doorframe and almost fell over as her legs were too weak. T.O.M quickly caught his friend and held her in his vine arms.
"T.O.M, you go with them, the rest of you get back to loading up the planes! QuickTime!" ordered Monger.
T.O.M carried Sarah to Dr Sprockets' lab as the others returned to the main hangar. Distancing himself from the rest of the group, Covertron stroked his moustache with intrigue, "Interesting, it would appear that my original plan to neutralize Titana has succeeded after all! What a splendid turn of events! The Gran Coverlord will be happy to hear this news! Hee-hee-hee!"
In Dr Sprocket's lab Sarah sat on top of the workbench as the robo-doc took a blood sample from her, he had to hold her arm up as she was too weak to keep it up herself.
"I don't know what you're looking for, Doc? Dr McKenzie has been trying to figure out what's wrong with me for weeks!" she said.
"Ah, but she's not a doctor of science or has access to the most advanced tech on the planet!" he boasted.
"Or mad!" added T.O.M.
"Quite, by analysing your blood we should get an idea on why your powers have been letting you down so badly. Perhaps you can tell me when the symptoms first started?"
"Well, I'd have to say the first time something was wrong was when I started suffering from insomnia just before Dr McKenzie joined us, she gave me some pills that did the trick but recently the sleepless nights have come back and the pills no longer work! Then other stuff started happening, only my arm growing at the hockey match, the failure to grow at different occasions, the headaches, the nausea,"
"And that time with the rabbit and the lightning," Dr Sprocket put in, "Even when struck by lightning the Quantronium inside of you should not have been able to escape so easily and fuse with another host!"
"You have a theory, Doc?" asked Sarah.
"Is that a cross between fear and creepy?" T.O.M asked.
The others ignored him and Dr Sprocket returned to the blood sample under his homemade microscope, using his own telescopic robot vision he was able to look at the blood at a subatomic level. It was like looking at two storms raging at each other against a red backdrop, bolts of green and blue were clashing with each other like lightning. Dr Sprocket looked up, a look of concern on his metal face.
"What is it, Doc?" asked Sarah, the look on his face filled her with dread.
"It's…it's the two elements in your body, my dear. The Quantronium and the Xtremium. Both highly powerful elements that, until now, have granted you the ability to grow into Titana. But it seems that the two energies are now turning on each other, preventing you from growing and causing serious harm to you in the process, hence the illnesses and the Undead look,"
Sarah folded her arms and glared at him, she didn't like being referred to as a zombie.
"Well, is there anything you can do, Doc?" she asked.
"Not at this level, these energies bonded with every cell in your body, I'd have to somehow remove those energies one cell at a time and seeing as how I can't do that there is nothing I can do,"
"So my own body has turned against me and it's going to kill me?!" she exclaimed, her head sinking into her hands.
The mad scientist pondered for a moment, "Maybe, maybe not. It has been known throughout history for two similar yet different powers to come to blows and yet, in the end, they put aside their differences and come together to become a powerful force to be reckoned with. Maybe this is something similar, maybe the Xtremium is trying to strengthen the Quantronium but is having difficulty?"
"Yeah, real nice," Sarah rolled her eyes, "I've got World War 3 going on inside me!"
"You may find it ludicrous, my dear, but it could be either your body is rejecting the joint elements or they are evolving…"
CRASH! BANG! WALLOP!
The pair of them jumped as T.O.M knocked a box from off a shelf and various items fell to the floor, "Oopsie!"
"T.O.M, I've told you a thousand times: Do Not Touch!" the robo-doc said crossly.
"Well you should leave signs or something telling me not to!" he said.
Dr Sprocket pointed to the 'Do Not Touch' sticker that was on the box, and the other boxes, and on every wall, on the ceiling, on the door, even on the back of the brainless vegetables head.
"Huh, maybe if I knew how to read then maybe I would know what they were trying to tell me!" said T.O.M.
Dr Sprocket began putting the objects back in the box when he came across a shiny, black cube that was made up of 27 smaller cubes.
Sarah saw him holding it, "Hey, isn't that…?"
"The Rubiks Crystal! Bane of my scientific career! Studied it for months and got zippo out of it!"
"Ooh, Zippo! Sounds interesting!" said T.O.M.
"I tried everything to try and discover its secrets, I tried blasting it, shocking it, dropping it from 350 feet, dunking it in acid, crushing it under 500 times gravity, holding it over lava, drilling it, and several other methods that General Monger put me on the naughty step for. All that and nothing! Even Sqooty gave up on it, there's just no way to get answers from this thing," he sighed.
"Did you ask it nicely?" asked T.O.M.
Dr Sprocket looked at the mutant vegetable, "Seriously, T.O.M? A piece of highly advanced alien technology, the most unique object in perhaps the whole galaxy and you think if I say please then it'll just open up? You think if I just say: Please Open, then it'll just…"
The cube started giving off a blue glow and began to levitate out of Dr Sprocket's hand. They all stood back as the cube slowly broke apart into the 27 smaller cubes, they began hovering around a small blue energy like planets rotating around a star.
"#TOM4THEWIN!" T.O.M said smugly.
"It…its…I can't believe it!" said Dr Sprocket, struggling to believe that the crystal had finally opened, that all he had to do was say 'please' and that T.O.M succeeded where the brightest minds failed.
"Doc, what…what is that?" asked Sarah as she struggled to get down off the workbench.
The robo-doc touched one of the little black cubes and a small symbol appeared on it along with the others. He then touched another cube and the whole lot rearranged itself and the symbols changed, the blue energy in the middle flashing green momentarily.
"I think it's some kind of advanced alien computer and these cubes are the keyboard!" said Dr Sprocket, his grin getting so wide he threatened to bend his jaw out of shape.
"A computer for what?" Sarah asked.
"Who cares?! I've done it! The Rubiks Crystal is solved! FINALLY, MWAHAHAHAHAHA! We have to inform General Monger immediately!" he said, he put his hands on the floating cubes and the whole thing combined back into one cube. He then took the cube and dashed out the lab.
"Doc, wait!" called Sarah, T.O.M picked her up and they chased after him.
Back in the hangar the last of the cargo had been loaded into the jets, the forklifts had pulled back into the main transfer corridor and the others had all boarded, waiting for take-off. Only General Monger was left as he consulted his watch, they were behind schedule and he didn't like that.
Just then Dr Sprocket came dashing in, the Rubiks Crystal in his lab coat pocket, his arms and legs flailing around as he made his way over to the General.
"Bout time you got here, we're running late! You'll have to finish your check-up on Sarah when we get back," said Monger.
"General…discovered…finally…floating bits…computer…please…" said Dr Sprocket; he was so excited his vocal processor was on the blink.
"Tell me later; just get on the plane with the others!"
"But…General…"
General Monger began to curl his lip, "If I hear one more 'but' today…"
Reluctantly Dr Sprocket remained quiet and boarded the jet; he would just have to tell him the exciting news later. Then T.O.M and Sarah came in, the tomato put Sarah down and looked around, "Have you seen a mad scientist made out of bean tins go this way?" he asked.
"In the jet, now!" Monger pointed to the middle jet, the only one with its loading doors still open.
T.O.M saluted and ran inside, Sarah began making her way but the General stopped her, "Not for you,"
"What?"
"You're ill, and without your Titana self around for the foreseeable future you have no part in Team Monster," he said regrettably.
"You're…you're kicking me off?!" she spluttered.
"Till you start feeling yourself again, sorry. For now you stay here," he said.
She was about to protest but the General raised a finger to silence her. He then boarded the plane and the doors closed. All Sarah could do was watch her friends fly off on their very important mission without her. The jets all took to the skies and headed east towards their destination.
Sarah stood by the hangar bay doors, holding onto the frame, as she watched the jets get smaller and then disappear from view. She hadn't felt so helpless since she was captured on board Gallaxus' ship.
The teams arrived in New York in the early hours of the morning and had now been working for a few hours, hauling heavy beams to buildings that needed rebuilding, repaving ripped up asphalt and installing new street lights. Team Monster was making good progress, despite being a member down. Team Alien were doing their fair share too, even Covertron who was in a much chipper mood after learning of Sarah's dilemma. He used his telekinesis to pick up loads of red paint and then paint the side of a small building.
"Covertron, what do you call that?" asked Fang.
"What do you mean?"
"You've painted a target on the side of that building with 'Attack Here' written under it!"
"Silly me, fixing!" he said quickly, grabbing more red paint and smothering the entire side of the building.
They then heard the sound of a ships horn, they were close to the city ring road and they looked out to see a giant cargo ship with a huge tarpaulin covering something.
Sqooty checked his compocketer, "Ah, that must be the new Statue of Liberty, all the way from France!"
"Wow! Impressive that the French were able to make an exact replica!" said Fang.
"Who is this monument of liberation?" asked Bar'Hbi.
"My studies on American history say that the original statue was designed by the people of France in 1886 as a gift to the American people. A well-known tourist attraction till it was destroyed in 2009. This new statue has been made with an all new metal, instead of just copper and wrought iron; they've increased the density and strengthened it with a secret metal that the French say is indestructible,"
"And yet it'll never stop being on the receiving end of every great disaster movie!" said Fang as they watched the cargo ship pull into the harbour.
T.O.M slid over to a glum Dr Sprocket who was dawdling with his own work.
"Why so glum, my robotic chum?"
"I've got the biggest discovery in Earth science in my pocket and instead I'm mixing cement," Dr Sprocket said, lightly kicking his super-cement mixer.
"Well, you can always show the others my discovery?" he suggested.
"Yours? It's my…"
"I suggested you ask nicely,"
"Lucky guess! I'm the one who's been working on it all this time; I'm the one who figured out what it is!"
"But you never said please!"
"Yes I did, I said Please Open and…"
The Rubiks Crystal flew out of his pocket, glowing blue, and then broke apart into the tiny cubes hovering around the small blue energy. This caught the attention of the others.
"Yo, what's that you got there, Doc?" asked Fang.
Dr Sprocket glared at T.O.M who just smiled back.
"Ahem, this, my fellow monster and aliens, is the greatest secret in the universe finally solved by the technological and maniacal genius that is me: The Rubiks Crystal!"
Sqooty's antennas went yellow, "What?! You got it to open? But my intellect is vastly superior! There's no way you could have figured out how to do it!"
"He didn't, I…"
Dr Sprocket stamped on one of T.O.M's vines, shutting him up.
"It was quite easy when you think about it, I must say I expected a bit more of a challenge from an alien species but ho-hum," Dr Sprocket said smugly.
"Wait a minute," Covertron squinted at the alien computer, "I've seen something like this before," his monocle scanned the symbols on the floating cubes and the results appeared before him, he then jumped his seat, screaming.
"Woah, mushroom-head, tone down the volume behind that bush of a moustache!" said Fang, covering his ears.
"You must destroy that thing immediately!" he shrieked, taking out all the weapons in his hoverchair and aiming them at the cubes.
Dr Sprocket stood in his way in protest, "What's gotten into you, man?"
"That 'alien computer' as you call it is property of the Raznar!" he said, "The most feared species in the galaxy! Ruthless, merciless, former business partn…erm, they are more dangerous than anything ever imagined!"
"I've studied Raznar in my galactic history classes, I thought they were extinct?" said Sqooty.
"Indeed they are, set off one too many bombs on their home planet, wiped themselves out! But there was rumour that they had sent one of their experimental weapons into the known universe as a lasting reminder of their tyranny! Nobody knew what it was or where it went, until now!"
"You're saying this floating puzzle game is some sort of weapon?" frowned Fang, looking at it, "Doesn't seem so dangerous to me,"
"Maybe that's how it works, allowing gullible minds to examine it and then unintentionally unleash its destructive power!" said Covertron.
"Covertron, I don't want to say I don't believe you, but I'm certainly thinking it loudly!" said Dr Sprocket, "This is a unique find and a discovery that will see me presented with every science prize imaginable, maybe even name a new one after me!"
"Gotta admit, Doc, these guys know more about space stuff than you do!" said the snake, "If they say it's dangerous then you should probably…"
Bar'Hbi stepped forward and shouted, "Ravnivore, don't…"
The six-legged alien dog had crept up to the cubes and sniffed it, not liking what he smelt he attempted to bite it and one of his fangs hit a cube with a red symbol on it. The blue energy turned red and emitted a shock wave that knocked everyone back. It then rose into the air and grew larger, the small black cubes disappearing into the red, burning energy.
The group emerged from the pile of sand and stone that they had landed in, T.O.M emerging from a pile of rope, "Wasn't me! I didn't do it! You can't prove anything!"
"Doc, what's it doing?" asked Fang as the red energy began making deep reverberating blaring noise.
"It seems that Covertron might have been right about the whole Raznar thing, the Rubiks Crystal does seem to be some sort of weapon and Ravnivore just pulled the trigger!" said Dr Sprocket.
Ravnivore hid behind the super-cement mixer, realising he had landed himself in the alien dog house.
"See, not everything I tell you is a lie!" Covertron then quickly covered his mouth, "Sssh, silence Covertron!"
Bar'Hbi took out her elemental staff, "Little Sqooty, what kind of weapon must I destroy?"
Sqooty scanned it and went over the results, "It appears to be a high concentration on sentience energy unlike any I've ever seen!"
"Sentences?" frowned T.O.M.
"Sentience, and what does that mean?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"Many species use sentience energy to make small inanimate objects become self-aware, it can be used to make children's toys come to life or to make a computer think for itself, I believe Gallaxus used it for his ships computer. But I've never seen energy that massive, it's off the scale!" explained Sqooty.
The red ball of energy then began hovering towards the harbour and out over the river. The teams watched it as it began floating over the large cargo ship.
"Okay, ten bucks says I know what's going to happen next!" Fang called out.
The energy then dropped down like sand in an egg timer, it went through the tarpaulin and then disappeared. For a moment there was a brief red glow and then the sound of grinding metal, followed by the tarpaulin being thrown off and the Statue of liberty standing up on the cargo ship, its eyes glowing red.
The monsters and aliens stared at the scene before them, all their eyes wide.
"Ten bucks please!" said Fang.
Lady Liberty looked around; torch in one hand and tablet in the other, and then she shot lasers out of her eyes and cut the ship in half, causing it to sink within seconds.
"Libertas is out of control!" said Dr Sprocket, he then saw his fellow monsters looking at him, "Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, it's who the statue is based on!"
Lady Liberty waded through the water, heading for the city, she pointed her torch at a half-built building and a firestorm shot out of it, sending the whole structure up in flames.
"Good thing this part of the city is still off limits!" said Sqooty.
"Yes, but how long till Libertas decides she wants some humans to squash or some populated area to raze?" said Dr Sprocket.
"I dunno, three minutes?" asked T.O.M.
"Point is we have to stop that possessed statue before she levels the city!" said the robo-doc.
"Us?! Against that?!" exclaimed Fang, pointing at the statue that was now making its way onto dry land. It climbed out of the water and stood at its full height of 111 feet. It raised its tablet and smashed a sizeable hole into a building.
"I am not afraid of a moving lump of rock," Bar'Hbi said confidently, sparks shooting out of her clawed staff, "Come, Ravnivore, to battle!"
Ravnivore came out of his place of hiding and joined the alien huntress, she climbed aboard and they rode over to Lady Liberty who was just in the middle of crushing some trees on the sides of the streets.
Bar'Hbi gave her war cry as she threw her staff at the statues head, the claw opened and shot lightning at it but the staff deflected off and fell to the ground.
"It seems the French weren't kidding about the whole indestructible thing?" said Sqooty.
Lady Liberty looked down at her tiny attackers; the two aliens were now trying to punch her stone feet to no effect. The seven spikes on her crown began to crackle with energy and suddenly she shot a powerful blast that sent them all flying down the street and landing amongst rock and dust. Nearby windows shattered and fell, an almighty crash as broken shards littered the ground.
Bar'Hbi got up and growled at the statue, "I will not be defeated by a walking garden ornament! Har—"
Lady Liberty used her torch to fire a forcefield at the female alien, freezing her in place. She then paralysed the others and then lifted them off the ground.
"You'd expect her to have anger issues, what with being destroyed in all those movies!" said T.O.M.
The crown then lifted up and the monsters and aliens were sucked inside her head, the crown lowering back down and caging them inside.
Once free of the forcefields they tried to free themselves but the metal was too strong. Fang tried slashing it, Bar'Hbi tried punching it and Dr Sprocket attempted to laser it but the laser ricochet all around the room till it finally got eaten by T.O.M.
"What are we going to do? She's trapped us in here!" said Fang.
"None of our weapons are able to penetrate the metal, they really wanted to make sure this statue could not be destroyed!" said Sqooty.
"Such mindless destruction," said Covertron, peering through the gaps in the crown so to see what Lady Liberty was doing, "You can't destroy these buildings, my people wanted to do that…be quiet, Covertron!"
Dr Sprocket tried contacting General Monger but couldn't get a signal, "The energy possessing this thing is creating too much interference! I can't warn anyone!"
"Not to worry, Doc! With all the chaos and destruction this things going to cause someone's bound to notice sooner or later!" smiled T.O.M.
Dr Sprocket looked at the brainless vegetable, "Not very comforting, T.O.M! We'll just have to hope that someone on the outside can save us and stop Lady Liberty from destroying the world!"
Back at Area Fifty-Unknown Sarah was in the War Room, using the screens to see if anything good was on the TV as she tried to get some food in her, slowly putting some potato chips in her mouth and forcing herself to eat it, her appetite had been affected as well and it had been ages since she had eaten something.
As she flicked through the channels she reached the bases' satellite feeds, various satellites in orbit observing everything across the planet, she figured she could get a live feed of her friends in New York so selected the satellite looking down on the east coast and magnified the image. The camera focused closer till she could see New York, then she noticed smoke coming from the south end of the city, where her friends were. Hurriedly she focused in closer and saw something large, grey and with horns rampaging down Park Avenue. She peered closer and to her shock she saw it was the new Statue of Liberty, magnifying even closer she saw some green vines sticking out of the viewing area in the head.
"Omigosh! The guys are in trouble! They need my help!" she said.
She forced herself to her feet and with difficulty she made her way to the main hangar where the last carrier jet available was being washed.
"Clear the area! I need to take this!" she told a soldier standing by the loading bay doors.
"Sorry, miss, we got orders to get this cleaned when General comes back, we can't…"
She may have been feeling weak but this wasn't time to show it. She grabbed him by the collar and pulled him to her, "Listen, I'm leader of Team Monster and I am ordering you to allow me access to this jet! If you don't I will see to it personally that you clean up Ravnivores 'accidents' after he's eaten on Vindaloo Night! Understood?"
"Um…"
She gave him her most serious look, her paleness making her look more frightening than tough.
"Okay, okay! It's all yours!" he squirmed.
The soldiers vacated the premises as Sarah climbed into the jet and entered the cockpit. Being a licensed pilot she was able to start the jet up and guide it out of the hangar. She took off down the runway and into the clear blue sky. She gripped the steering as tight as she could as if trying to make it go faster.
"Hold on, guys," she said, "I'm coming!" Then she noticed an out-of-place button next to the throttle, it was labelled 'Hyper Boost! MWAHAHA! Do not push!', "This must have been the jet Dr Sprocket was working on a while ago, let's see if…" she pressed the button and suddenly she was pressed into her seat as the jets speed increased dramatically, the jet tore through the sound barrier as it went faster than a Blackbird.
The Statue of Liberty continued its attack on the city, punching holes in buildings, ripping up roads with its laser vision and using her torch and tablet as weapons. Her giant metal feet stamping on stray vehicles and squashing them flatter than a pancake.
Inside its head the monsters and the aliens were trying anything they could think off in order to get out. They had tried to make their way to the viewing platform in the torch but it had been sealed off. They were also being constantly thrown left and right as the statue walked along.
"Perhaps this will work?" said Sqooty, replicating a heat ray from his compocketer, "By superheating the structure the metal should melt away," he aimed at the wall and shot a jet of blue fire at it, it struck the wall and consumed it in flame but a few minutes of flame-throwing the wall was still intact, if not a little blackened.
T.O.M touched the wall and the tip of his finger caught fire, "Hmm, maybe we should leave it a few more minutes till it's well done?"
Sqooty quickly turned the heat ray to a freeze ray and put the fire out on the monsters vine made hand.
Dr Sprocket had dismantled half of his head and was now working with several components rolling around on the floor. He then began putting them back together with glue and sticky tape to create a miniature satellite dish.
"Doc, now is not the time to go to pieces!" said Fang before Ravnivore fell on top of him.
"I am attempting to boost the signal on my communicator so as to get everyone away from the city!" he said.
"Away? Surely we need every one of your weak and feeble military forces to take this thing on?" said Covertron, his hoverchair taking a beating as the others were constantly thrown at him from all the swaying.
"No military force can beat this thing, not even Mongers Special Forces! With this things power any attempt at stopping it would result in a massacre! The best we can do is get everyone as far away from Libertas as possible!" said the robo-doc, "There, I think I've got it! Transmitting…now!"
Workmen and soldiers who were several streets away suddenly received an alert to evacuate the city, this was followed by several distant explosions that quickly got them all scarpering.
"That should get the city cleared, I hope!" said Dr Sprocket, putting the pieces back in his head.
"Great, now we just stay in here forever while Lady Liberty destroys the city!" said Fang, folding his arms.
"This place got room service?" asked T.O.M.
"I refuse to be caged like a budgie!" said Bar'Hbi as she attempted to punch the walls again, leave her with a throbbing fist.
"Can anyone hear that?" asked Sqooty.
"You're a mad scientist!" Covertron jabbed a finger at Dr Sprocket, "You should know how to get out of ludicrous positions like this?"
"Trapped inside an alien possessed statue never made the list of ludicrous situations!" Dr Sprocket replied, "And you seem to know a lot about the aliens who made the Rubiks Crystal, why don't you figure out a way?"
"I know nothing about the technology behind Raznar weaponry, we just bought armourments from them so we could further our cause of enslaving….Silence, Covertron!"
"Seriously, am I the only one who hears that?"
"Doc, are you sure you ain't got any lasers or cutting tools or acid packed explosive gizmos that can get us out of this?" Fang asked.
"I'm afraid not, Libertas will not release us and will continue to tear the city apart until nothing…"
Sqooty leapt up and down, "What! Is! That! Sound!"
Everyone stopped and listened, they could hear what sounded like a jet engine and it was getting louder.
"It sounds as if it is coming from over that way," said Bar'Hbi, throwing her long orange ponytail back over her shoulder.
They all peered out the small windows and could see in the distance one of the carrier jets approaching at high speed.
Fang's eyes slowly widened and he looked at the rob-doc.
"Um, is that…"
"Yep!"
"And it's heading…"
"Yep!"
"And it's going to…"
"Yep!"
"So should we…"
"Indeed."
"DUCK!"
Everyone dived to the floor and covered their heads whilst T.O.M began making quacking sounds.
The jet smacked right into Lady Liberty's face with a giant explosion. Bits of plane debris fell all around and crumbled into a burning heap on the roads. The statue emerged from the smoke however, unscathed.
Sarah had grabbed a parachute and jumped out before the jet crashed into the statue, she hoped by using it as a missile she could stop it or at least free her friends.
By the time she touched down and freed herself from her chute the statue had moved on and was now out of sight. Burning jet pieces everywhere but nothing belonging to Lady Liberty.
"Nothing? Seriously? Oh man, Mongers gonna be steamed!" said Sarah.
There was no way she was going to be able to catch up with the rogue statue and her only idea at stopping it had failed. She was too weak to run and the adrenaline from the jump had worn off.
She paced back and forth, trying to think of something else but she had nothing, normally Dr Sprocket would come up with a bonkers plan to defeat impossible enemies, but she was all alone. Poor, pathetic and small Sarah all alone against a 111 foot metal being of death. It was going to destroy the world and she could do nothing to stop it.
"Come on," she told herself, "They need me! They need Titana! Grow already!" she screwed her face up and focused as hard as she could, nothing happened.
She slumped against a car in despair and saw her reflection in the wing mirror, frail, weak, useless.
"Why? Why can't I save my friends? Why?" she cried, a tear rolling down her cheek. The tear dropped onto her red outfit and there was a momentary flash from the symbols on her clothes.
She stood up again and looked at herself all over, the glowing had stopped but something had definitely happened.
"Wha…was that…come on, you two," she said to the Quantronium and Xtremium inside of her as if they could hear her, "My friends are in danger and I'm the only one who can save them, and it's not just them, the whole planet will be torched if I don't do something! So please, the two of you stop fighting each other and work with me here!"
For a moment there was nothing, then slowly she started to feel more awake, more lively, she looked at her reflection again and saw the colour return to her cheeks and the bags disappear from under her eyes.
The symbols on her outfit lit up brightly as she felt a rush of energy course through her body. Whenever she needed to grow she always thought of large things like elephants, mountains or even skyscrapers, but what she was thinking right now was far bigger than any of that: the love she had for her friends.
She started growing, slowly at first but steadily gaining in speed. Sarah fist-pumped the air in relief and jubilation.
"Oh yeah! Titana's back in town baby, now I can go save…whoa, hey, WHOA, WHAT THE…!"
Sarah had reached the fifty foot mark but was still going, she was getting bigger and bigger, she looked around as everything around her shrunk, it was like her graduation day all over again, an overwhelming sense of fear and confusion.
Finally she stopped at her new dizzying height, everything looked much smaller. She looked down at her feet and saw they were as long as a car.
"Is this what Dr Sprocket meant by me evolving? How big am I now?" she asked herself.
Deciding to work it out she stood next to the nearest building and placed her hand on top of her head, seeing where it came to on the building. She then counted how many storeys there were beneath the mark.
"Fifteen storeys. That means…I'm about…150 feet! Geez…"
She touched her head as she came to terms with this new dizzying height and her elbow went right into the building like it was made of sand.
"Oh my-Sorry!" she said to the empty building.
She stepped away from the building but her big feet stepped on the abandoned cars and crushed them flat. She lifted her foot up and the squashed car fell off her sole and landed in the footprint she had made in the asphalt.
"I'm really sorry! So, so sorry!"
Walking backwards, she wasn't watching where she was going and her 26 foot wide butt smashed into a glass skyscraper. She spun round at the sound of cracking windows and saw she had made a large butt print in the side of the building. Her face went as red as her shirt.
"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!"
Whenever she moved a part of her body would hit something, something she didn't have much trouble with at fifty feet. At her wits end she just froze in the middle of the street, not moving a muscle, she took a deep breath and calmed down.
"Okay, Sarah, you got this! You got used to it once and you can do it again! Just need to control yourself and focus on the matter at hand!" she coached herself, the sound of a nearby explosion reminded her of what she had to do, "Hello, matter, prepare to meet my hand!"
The monsters and aliens were helpless as they were tossed around inside Lady Liberty's head like clothes in a washing machine; they were seriously starting to bruise now. Then Dr Sprocket finally had an idea, a light bulb switching on in his head.
"Got it! If we emit an EMP through whatever mechanism that opened up the top of the head then we'll be able to open it up ourselves and escape!"
"I believe I can replicate an EMP grenade or two," said Sqooty, he pressed a button on his compocketer and several silver grenades materialized on top of the screen.
Bar'Hbi picked up a grenade and got ready to throw, "I will break Liberty's head open so wide she will…"
Suddenly the room went red and the gravity increased dramatically, forcing everyone down to the ground, they felt like they were inside an invisible car crusher.
"She's got eyes in her head! Trippy!" squealed T.O.M as his head was slowly squashed.
"Can't…move…you?" Fang grunted, looking at the others.
The others couldn't even shake their heads as the life was slowly getting crushed out of their bodies.
Lady Liberty was coming up on Bryant Park, its metallic footsteps cracking the memorial fountain. As its laser eyes continued to cut through buildings it noticed a shorter but wider building on the other side of the park, it was the New York Public Library.
The statue aimed its torch at the building, the metal fire glowing red and building up energy, ready to atomize the entire library.
Suddenly a giant hand tapped Lady Liberty on the shoulder. The statue turned around and was faced with a giant red bosom; it craned its neck up and saw a displeased woman's face looking down on it.
Sarah now towered a good 40 feet above the Statue of Liberty, she had her hands on her hips and glared down at it like a mother looking down at a naughty child.
"Ms Liberty, I don't appreciate you kidnapping my friends and ruining the city!" she said to it.
Lady Liberty raised its torch to strike her but the giantess grabbed it firmly, the statue tried to pull back but couldn't get free.
Sarah then realised that her grip was crushing the statues arm till, with one swift yank, she pulled the statues hand off. The hand holding the torch fell to the floor with a loud bang.
The statue looked at its severed wrist and then back at the giantess, its eyes glowing red and getting ready to shoot.
Sarah put her hands over the statues face and beams or red shot between the gaps in her fingers, she felt a slight tingle but no pain, she was however getting annoyed.
"Give me my friends back…NOW!"
With a mighty heave she pulled the statues crown off like it was made of paper. The crown fell to earth and landed next to the torch. A handless and crownless Lady Liberty stopped moving, momentarily paralyzed in shock.
Sarah peered into the hole in its head and saw her friends getting up off the floor.
"Are you guys okay?" she asked.
Her friends looked up and almost fell over as they saw Sarah's giant face looking down on them.
"S-S-Sarah? Is that you?" asked Dr Sprocket.
Sarah blushed and smiled, "Yeah, trying out a new look,"
"Is it your hair this time? I bet it's your hair!" said T.O.M.
Covertron shot out of the statue on his hoverchair and gasped at the giantess' appearance, "What…How…this is impossible! How are you even bigger? You were weakened! Neutralized! Powerless!" he said.
Sarah got right up close to him till her face was only a few inches away from him, "You're welcome!" she said, her voice blowing him back several feet.
She then held out her hands and offered her friends a lift off. Fang, T.O.M, Dr Sprocket, Sqooty, Bar'Hbi and Ravnivore all climbed out of the head and into her cupped hands that were large enough to hold them all. She was amazed how light they felt in her hands and also how small they were now, to her they only seemed about two and a half inches high.
Dr Sprocket looked at the damaged statue caused by Sarah with the minimalist of effort. Her strength had to be next to incalculable now.
She smiled at her friends as they stood in her palms, "I'm so glad you guys are okay! I didn't think I'd…"
A metal tablet hit her in the stomach, momentarily making her hop backwards, the statue had recovered and was on the warpath again.
"Excuse me a minute, guys," she said, placing them all on the ground, "Us Statuesques gotta sort things out!"
They all hid behind a turned over skip as the two giants sized each other up.
Sarah hunched down, ready to fight, "Bring it!" she said.
Lady Liberty shot lasers out of her eyes and they struck the giantess full force, she covered her face as lasers went in all directions after striking her body. Skyscrapers were perforated and roads were potholed, but Sarah was unaffected.
She opened her eyes and saw the lasers weren't causing her any harm at all.
"Right, my turn,"
She charged forward, hand in a tight fist and punched the statue square in the chest. The sonic boom caused every window in the area to shatter and also blew her friends ten feet back from behind the skip.
The statue stayed where it was, violently vibrating from such a blow. Then cracks began to show around where Sarahs fist was, the cracks spread all over the statue till finally it crumbled into dust.
The statue dissolved and in its place was a large floating ball of red energy, it blared and groaned at her. Sarah was unnerved for a moment but knew nothing could harm her now. She clapped her hands together, a boom that could rival thunder, the blast blew the energy away like smoke in the wind. It fizzled away and was gone.
Fang peered over the skip and saw Lady Liberty had turned into a heap of rubble, "She did it! She blew Libertas away!" he got up and cheered, followed by the others (except Covertron).
"Inconceivable! That metal was indestructible!" thought Dr Sprocket.
Sarah high above could hear her friends cheering her, she looked down at the little ants that were her fellow monsters and got down on her knees so she could see them better.
"That was awesome, Sarah!" called T.O.M, offering a bro-fist.
Sarah made a fist that was as big as him and lightly tapped his fist.
"I think I'm right in saying you're feeling better now, my dear?" asked Dr Sprocket.
"I feel much, much better now!" she smiled.
"So is this your new Titana form now or are stuck this size permanently?" asked Sqooty.
Sarah hadn't thought of that, what if she was stuck as a 150 foot woman for the rest of her life? She stood up and looked around at her surroundings; she could see for miles down each round and could feel the ocean wind blowing on her face. Was this her new life?
"Guys, I don't know if I'll be able to…Oh! Oh, wait! I feel something!"
Her outfit lit up once again and she began to shrink down, all the way down till she was fifty feet again.
"Wow," she gasped, a smile of relief on her face, "Hang on, maybe I can…"
She began to shrink again all the way down to normal size, she looked up from where she had come from and almost made herself dizzy. Fortunately T.O.M's surprise hug brought her out of it.
"Check it, I can alter between fifty and one fifty!" she said excitedly through her friends' vines.
"Remarkable, we'll have to run some tests back at base to see the full extent of this transformation," said Dr Sprocket.
"With all of this damage it's going to take an age before we see Area Fifty-Unknown again!" said Fang, kicking a piece of rubble.
"Yes, and once again, you've ruined another statue!" said Covertron, pinning the blame on Sarah.
Fang gulped, "Mayor Baloney's doing a fly over of the city in an hour! When he sees his beloved statue in pieces…"
"Maybe there is another way," said Sqooty, "We can tell the mayor and General Monger that this damage was caused by Gallaxus' original attack, say 'overlooked damage', and I'll get us a new Statue of Liberty!"
"You? You are going to get a brand new statue?" said Dr Sprocket with an amused look on his face.
"I have an account with the master carpenters of Glassion 4, they can make anything in record time. All I have to do is input the specifications and…" he tapped away on his compocketer, "…done! New Statue of Liberty will be delivered on Liberty Island within two hours!"
"That's all very well but the Mayor is gonna be here way before that! How are we going to get away with this?" frowned Covertron.
Sarah looked at the debris that Bar'Hbi and Ravnivore were smashing as payback, she saw the crown and the hand close by, "Guys, I have an idea!"
Mayor Baloney was in his private helicopter, overlooking the work being done to his beloved Big Apple. He saw most of the workforces were on the outskirts of the city or in the areas that had not been affected.
"Meh, probably on a tea-break," he thought.
As the helicopter hovered over New York's Empire State Building he looked over to Liberty Island and saw a sight for sore eyes. The Statue of Liberty standing tall and mighty once again, though it did seem a little taller than he remembered.
"Huh, those Frenchies, can't they get anything right?"
Shrugging it off, he gave the pilot the order to return to the helipad, he had seen enough of the repairs being done and was now satisfied.
Sarah stood as still as possible as she held up the statues hand holding the torch and carefully balanced the crown on her head, she held a giant slab of concrete in her other arm that Dr Sprocket had quickly whipped up in his super-cement mixer and she wore the tarpaulin that the previous statue had arrived in as a robe.
She couldn't see herself having a career as a full time statue but for the moment she was proud to be the icon of freedom.
