Kid eventually managed to wrestle everyone's phones away from them and deleted the picture from the phones, but he did struggle with Sammy's.
"You have a password on your texts?" Kid exclaimed as he punched in random numbers.
"Blame JJ." Sammy said with a smirk, enjoying that Kid was having problems with her phone.
"Let me try." Lance offered and held out his hand. Kid handed the phone over without a second thought.
"How come you trust him?" Paul asked, a little offended.
"He's not the one who plotted to sneak out, nor has he gone insane yet." Kid stated.
"Neither have I." Sheyla stated.
"Or I." Paul added.
"Yes, but you two would return Samantha's phone and I know Lance won't."
"Here." Lance returned the phone, messaging unlocked.
"How did you know my password?" Sammy asked.
"Lucky guess." Lance shrugged.
"Sance." Michelle whispered into Sammy's ear.
"Stop it." Sammy snapped. Michelle didn't respond back as she wondered off, seeing something that no one else noticed.
The group eventually reached the house and Kid threw open the door and had everyone walk in before he entered. He ordered everyone to sit down in the living room and asked Kilik, Black-Star and Tsubaki to leave. Kilik left without protest and Tsubaki had to bribe Black-Star with the promise of some food when they got home. Kyra and Hannah stood at the edge of the room, bags packed and refusing to look at their friends.
"What's with the bags?" Sammy asked.
"They're leaving." Kid answered.
"What!?"
"I have informed their parents on the situation and since they hadn't finished filling out the forms yet, they have demanded that their children be returned." Kid explained. "I have told all of your parents as well, but they had filled out forms stating that they will not get you guys back unless there is serious injury and with Samantha and Lance both being eighteen, they can not be forced back home."
"So...we're losing Kyra and Hannah?" Michelle asked.
"By the looks of it." There was a knock on the door. "There's your ride, I suggest you say good-bye now." Kid said.
"Bye guys." Kyra and Hannah hugged their friends and left, everyone watched in silence as the two girls got in the car and left Death City.
"What about Hannah? She went insane? Is she safe? Are other people safe?" Sheyla fired off questions towards Kid as the group returned to their seats.
"We had her examined and every trace of madness is out of her system and she'll be safer out of the city anyways." Kid said. "Now don't believe any of you are off the hook for sneaking out of the house."
"Well shit." Sammy muttered.
"All of you are to be locked in your rooms for the rest of the day, exceptions for bathroom and meals. Your phones will not be returned for several weeks and there will be no more leaving this house. I have underestimated you once, it will not happen again."
"But, dad." Sammy whined, holding out the word 'dad'.
"Go!" Kid snapped and the teens slowly stood up and sulked away to their rooms.
The day went by slowly. Haley spent the whole time reading, Sheyla read as well, JJ either slept or read, Michelle started playing music and sang loud enough for the whole house to hear, no one was complaining, Paul played with the several hand-held game systems he brought with him and Sammy tried to do a little of everything. She slept, read, danced, sang, drew, wrote, but eventually ended up sitting on her floor next to the door and pounding her head against it to the beat of the song she was listening to.
She flinched when she felt the door knock back. Sammy removed an earphone from her ear, the music still playing clearly with how loud it was. The doorknob turned and she had to move out of the way as the door opened and showed Lance standing in the hall.
"Lancey?" Sammy asked. "What are you doing out of your room?"
"Kid let me out to use the restroom." Lance explained.
"Then what are you doing here? Does this look like the shitter to you?" Sammy gestured to her messy room. "Um...never mind." She chuckled.
"I was just checking up on you." Lance stated.
"Have you checked on the others yet?"
"Of course."
"Are they okay? How's Haley?"
"You worry about your friends too much." Lance stated and stepped into the room, closing the door behind him.
"You just locked yourself in, idiot." Sammy scoffed.
"I did?" Lance turned the doorknob and it was indeed locked. "Oh well." He shrugged.
"So how's Haley?" Sammy asked again.
"She's fine, she's just reading a book."
"Yep, sounds like her." Sammy said with a smile and turned off her mp3 so she could hear clearly.
"You're like Justin with the music thing." Lance commented.
"If I could walk around with music blaring into my ears twenty-four seven, I would. But I can't read lips that well." Sammy said truthfully. "And I'm no copycat." She added with a wink.
"Obviously." Lance chuckled. "Did you draw that?" He asked, noticing a drawing on the wall.
"Yeah, I don't like it that much though, I could not get the nose right to save my life." Sammy said and grabbed a stack of papers off of her dresser. "This one's a lot better though." She stated, handing Lance a picture of the same person, but at a different angle.
"So, what are you doing drawing Black-Star?" Lance asked.
"I have other people too. I'm trying to work on realism." Sammy answered and handed the stack over to Lance.
"How come I'm not in here?" Lance asked after flipping through the pages.
"Because I'm not done with it yet." Sammy admitted and pointed to a sheet of paper on her bed that was sitting on a large book.
"My chin isn't that big." Lance said as he glanced over the picture.
"I'm not done yet." Sammy snatched the paper away and set it down on the dresser.
"You're a really good artist. I heard your singing earlier."
"Oh...you did? Sorry about that." Sammy shyly rubbed her arm. "I hope your ears aren't bleeding." She chuckled.
"You were doing a little duet with Michelle and it sounded amazing." Lance stepped closer to Sammy. "How come you don't sing more? I see you constantly rocking out to music and it's always playing in your room."
"I...I don't like my voice as much." Sammy admitted.
"I think it sounds amazing." Lance was only inches away from Sammy when her door flew open.
"May I ask what you're doing?" Kid asked, tapping his foot against the ground. Lance rolled his eyes and let out a huff of irritation before smiling at the shinigami.
"I was just checking on Sam and I accidentally closed the door behind me out of habit." Lance stated.
"Get back to your room. Now." Kid ordered.
"Yes, sir." Lance said with heavy sarcasm before walking out. Kid shut the door the moment Lance was out.
Sammy stood right where she was, her eyes wide open and face flushed.
