Malec Halloween part 2. Sorry it's late, but I had class all day Halloween and then I took my little sister out trick or treating and dressed up like Isabelle (yeah I'm a dork, get over it :P)

So, don't get mad, but there is no smut in this chapter. This is because the Heronstairs chapter is ridiculously blush worthy and I didn't want to have too much of it getting in the way of that little thing I like to call the plot. Anyway, I am going to get back to writing the next chapter and hopefully have it up real quick.

I got some really amazing and touching reviews this past chapter and I just want to say thank you all SOOOOOOOO much! I really appreciate the kind words and it's so awesome to me that you guys have read this much of my writing and you like it :D

Chapter 36, How to Compromise:

Magnus POV:

I leaned forward and caught Alec's lips with mine. He tasted like limes and alcohol and his kiss was unexpectedly eager. Long, delicate fingers traced the lines of my hips, untucking my dress shirt and finding their way to my bare skin. I moaned into his wanting mouth and let my hands explore his back under his tee shirt.

I'd been dying to do this all night, but playing host meant I couldn't spend all my time with one person; even if that one person was the only one I really wanted to be around.

I'd hoped to show off my incredibly sexy boyfriend to all of my friends but he kept running off and hiding, only spending time with people he knew and who weren't me. I tried to spend time with him, but I couldn't sit in a corner all night.

I hadn't realized he'd been having such a bad time. He seemed to be enjoying himself so much with Will and Jem.

"Mags, wait. Your house is full of people."

It took me a second to realize why he was chastising me and then I noticed that my hands had absentmindedly moved to the front of his pants and were in the middle of unbuttoning them.

My autopilot was apparently horny.

So was my buzzed brain.

"So? The door's locked." I nipped at the spot when his neck meets his jaw and was rewarded with a whimper. Why not finish what my hands had started, since they were already there and all…

"But..." I flicked my tongue over his Adam's apple and the protests stopped. Boozed up Alec was extremely easy to distract. Which was good, because I had a feeling he would not be enjoying tomorrow one bit once Isabelle got ahold to him.

But for now, he was mine.

"I really hope that music is still as deafeningly loud as it was early." Alec groaned some time later, hands over his flushed face.

"I'm sure no one heard anything. And if they did, I'm positive they don't care." I told him, looking under the bed for my underwear. "Aaahhhhh." I yelled, jumping back.

"What's wrong?" Alec looked over at me concerned.

"I forgot he was in here." I picked up the kitten who'd been hiding under the bed and had just swatted at my face and tossed him on the mattress. The Chairman landed gracefully on his feet and immediately headed for the pillows to make himself comfy.

"I'm surprised he stayed under there, what with all the people who have been on top of this bed tonight." I commented, giving up on finding my boxer briefs and thus grabbing a new pair from the dresser. I put them on and buttoned a couple buttons on my shirt, leaving most of the top undone.

"God I'm going to have to deal with Izzy tomorrow. You should just kill me now. Please?" Alec bemoaned while he put his boots back on.

"Now, now there's no need to be dramatic; that's my thing. I'm sure she'll forgive and forget."

"You obviously don't understand the Lightwood way. We can do neither of those things. It's just not in our genetics." He picked my pants up off the floor and held them out to me.

"You can just leave those on the bed." I instructed, heading for the door.

"What?! You can't go out there like that. Magnus you have no pants on!"

"Really? That must be why my legs are so cool then..." He threw a pillow at me. "It's no big deal. I'm still wearing more clothes than half the people out there." Halloween is really just an excuse for people to walk around in their underwear without getting arrested for indecent exposure. It is the only reason people have to continue to go to the gym after Labor Day.

"That's not the point. What will people think if they see us coming out of here with you half naked?"

"The same thing they're going to think if I came out of here fully dressed. Trust me, no amount of clothing is going to make any of their minds not go straight to the gutter." He did not look happy about that answer but it was the truth. My friends do not jump to innocent conclusions when there is a dirty thought to be had; no matter what the scenario. "Come on, let's go enjoy the rest of this party. The night is still young!"

Alec sat back down on the bed and started petting the cat.

"You can go ahead, I think I'm gonna hang out in here for a little while. He needs some company."

"He'll survive for a few more hours on his own. Come on." I grabbed his hands and tried to pull him off the bed. He sat up but wouldn't budge any further.

"I don't want to go out there with those people." The way he spoke made it sound like I was asking him to go hang out in a den of murderers or lawyers or something.

"Those people are my friends."

"No, they're a bunch of people you've slept with who think our relationship is a joke and have no qualms saying it to my face. I don't want to spend any more time listening to people about me like I'm your plaything and not a human being." He spat.

"Who was talking about you like that?"

"Well for starters, you. And Ragnor. You acted like you were presenting some shiny new toy to him." He was starting to gesture as he spoke.

"I didn't." I sat down next to him on the edge of the bed.

He crossed his arms over his chest and raised his eyebrows meaningfully.

"Ok, so maybe I did, but I didn't mean to. Honest. It's just how we talk, there's nothing to it. I didn't know you were offended."

"What kind of a person wouldn't be offended by that?"

I looked down and didn't respond. The answer was the kinds of people whose names you don't remember and you don't call back.

"You should have said something."

"When? I saw you for a total of ten minutes tonight before you found me in here." He didn't sound angry per se, but he definitely wasn't happy about it. I hadn't meant to not be spending time with him, I just kept getting pulled in different directions.

"I'm sorry. You know I don't think of you like that and I would never intentionally trivialize our relationship. Don't you?"

"I guess." He shrugged.

"No, no guessing. You should know by now that I love- being with you." That was close. It was getting harder not to slip up. For a phrase I've never used on anyone romantically, it sure did want slide off my tongue often enough. I moved on quickly. "I just wanted you to meet my friends and have a good time. I expected them to be idiots, but not jerks. I can tell everyone to leave if you want."

Alec scooted closer to me, uncrossing his arms.

"I'm not mad at you, I just don't want to go back out there. You should go finish your party though, I'll be here when you're done." He flashed me a smile that was more transparent than cellophane.

"I won't be able to enjoy myself knowing you're in here upset. I'll go kick them out and we can spend the rest of the night doing whatever you want." I made to get up, but he took ahold of my hands.

"Don't; it'll just make things worse."

"How?" He really could be confusing sometimes.

"They'll think even less of me than they already do."

"I don't care what they think, I care about you." When was he going to get that through his head?

"You really consider those people your friends?" That sounded like a loaded question.

"Most of them, yes." I answered cautiously, wondering where he could possibly be taking this.

"Then I'll just suck it up and go back out there with you. They're a part of your life and I'm going to have to get used to them and they're going to have to get used to me." He said firmly. I was not expecting that. "Just promise you won't leave me alone so much." He added, a little more insecurely.

"I promise not to leave you at all. You've got me for the rest of the night." His smile was a bit more genuine this time and I hugged him gratefully. "Ready to go have some fun?"

"No. But we can go out there anyway." There was a smile in his voice when he said it.

I kissed him on the cheek and took his hand.

"Do you see Will anywhere?" I asked once we'd made our way into the living room. I didn't and I wanted to check and see if he was ok.

"Jem says they called it a night and went back to our place." Alec told me, looking down at his cell phone.

It was funny how they'd disliked each other so much and yet were so alike; always running away from their problems instead of facing them head on.

"There you are!" I was practically crashed into by Ragnor who wrapped his arms around my shoulders in a bear hug.

"Your flawless leader has returned." I announced, pushing his arms off.

"From no-pants land?"

"Something like that." I glanced at Alec, but his facial expression was giving nothing away.

"Lucky. Still averse to sharing? I promise I'll be gentle with him." He flashed a serial killer smile while raking his eyes over my boyfriend's physique. Before I could tell him off though, Alec spoke up.

"Sorry, gentle's not really my thing. Neither is sharing." His arm snaked around my waist possessively. Ragnor's flirting didn't bother me, it's just how he is, but I'm not gonna lie and say that Alec's complete lack of interest didn't make me happy. He may have been joking earlier about there being a line forming for if we ever broke up, but just because it was a joke didn't make it untrue. There were plenty of people here who would kill for a night with brooding, dazzlingly fit, nineteen year old boyfriend.

"Such a shame. Still, the offer stands if you change your mind. Now come on, we're about to start a game of Kings." Ragnor said, pointing to where the makeshift coffee table was and a group of people sitting around it.

"I don't think-" I began.

"You mean people still play that after freshmen year?" Alec questioned. I don't know when or how his 'sassy' switch got turned on, but I hoped it stayed that way for a while. It was really adorable.

"We play it satirically." Ragnor explained.

"Oh, how deep of you." Alec retorted.

"So should I grab you two some beers?" Ragnor asked Alec. He looked highly amused that my decisions were being dictated by someone other than myself, and, if I had been an outsider looking in, I would have been too. It's so unlike me.

But for Alec, I would gladly take a step back. He had after all agreed to come back out here against his will. All other activities for the night were in his hands.

Compromises.

"Sure?" Alec replied, looking at me for confirmation.

"Sure. But none of that horse piss for me, I'll take a pomegranate Mike's."

Ragnor rolled his eyes at my preferences.

"And for you?"

"Blue moon is fine if there's any left. If not, a Sam Adams."

"Alright, beers for the men and a bitch beer for the host, coming right up. Save me a seat." Ragnor called over his shoulder, winking at Alec, who blushed furiously.

"He's not sitting next to you." I mumbled, grabbing Alec's hand and pulling him over to the table. I surveyed the group and made Tessa move to sit next to Alec so he wouldn't be near Woolsey, Camille, or Ragnor.

Hours, half a dozen drinking games, and gods only know how many beers later, the sun was coming up and cabs were being called. I left a much-more-drunk-than-I Alec sitting on the couch to grab some waters for us to drink before bed, even though I was confident I could drink a bathtub full of water at this point and I would still be waking up with a hellacious hangover.

When I came back he and Ragnor were hugging and I heard him saying: "You're really not as much of a dick as I thought you were."

To which my friend replied: "I get that a lot more often than you'd think. You're not so bad yourself."

I cut in when they started talking phone numbers.

"Good night Ragnor, I think I heard your cab arrive; yes of course I'll give him your number, we should definitely all do this again, I agree." I ushered him out the door and turned around to see Alec caught in another hug, this time his partner was Woolsey, who had much less trustworthy appendages.

"Hey, whoa!" Alec squealed as Woolsey's hand dipped into his back pocket. "You promised to keep your hands to yourself."

"How can I give you a proper goodbye hug if I'm keeping them at my sides?" The pretend sailor asked innocently while my boyfriend forcibly removed the mischievous hands from his person.

"Goodbye Woolsey." I said, coming up behind him and placing a firm hand on his shoulder.

He pouted, but let me lead him to the front door anyway.

"You." I pointed at Alec who looked up at me with his big innocent blue eyes. "In my room, now. No more hugs."

He looked down sheepishly and stumbled his way down the hall to my room. I finished seeing the guests out, making sure everyone was safe before locking up.

I glanced around the destroyed living room.

Why did I do this?

I was not even going to think about cleaning up right now. I'd get around to that by the time Will got home from work tomorrow, but that gave me at least eighteen hours and I was planning on sleeping for a good chunk of them.

The image that greeted me when I opened my bedroom door had me laughing out loud. Which woke up the cat who bolted for the door, but not the passed out, pant-less man spread out diagonally over my yellow bedspread. He had a pillow covering half of his head, laying straight on the mattress, and his arms were spread out wide. He was also snoring lightly.

I will admit that I am a cruel boyfriend and took numerous photographs from several angles before striping my shirt and jacket off and setting to work making a space for myself in my bed.

"Alexander, darling, I need you to move just a little this way." I nudged him towards the right and he moved about a fraction of an inch. "At least get under the covers, it's going to get cold." Luckily for me the bed had not been remade earlier and the bulk of the comforter was not under his passed out body. Still, it took more than a little effort to pull it free.

I finally managed to find space to lay comfortably with the blanket pulled up to my waist. As soon as I got situated around his sprawled limbs he opened his heavy lids, smiled at me, and snuggled up, wrapping his arm around my torso and his legs over my legs and placing his head in the crook of my shoulder. In less than five seconds he was snoring softly again.

His body was so warm and the alcohol in my system was clouding my thoughts, tucking them in in a blanket of fog. I closed my eyes and let myself slip away into unconsciousness thinking about bright blue

eyes and shy smiles and a happy Halloween.
