Chapter 36: Vampire

(Demetri's POV)

The second I bit Scarlett Alec appeared and his black mist surrounded Scarlett. I quickly released Scarlett and handed her to Alec.

"Go Demetri," Alec said in a warning tone, "you need to hunt before she wakes; I won't leave her." I nodded and quickly jumped off the balcony and dove into the ocean to wash off Scarlett's blood scent so I wouldn't do something I would regret. After I hunted in the nearest town I returned to the island and found Alec and Scarlett in the bedroom. Alec sat in a chair by the bed as he held Scarlett's hand while using his gift on her.

"Thanks for your help." I muttered and he simply nodded not looking up from his book. I sighed and laid next to Scarlett listening to her heart beat.

"You're nicer than you appear." I teased Alec and he glared at me.

"Don't push your luck Demetri." He growled and I smirked.

"Don't be like that kid." I replied and he glared

"I will let that pass." He muttered and looked back down at his book.

"Ok," I smiled and sat up a little, "then tell me about what's been going on in your life recently."

"I don't like small talk Demetri." Alec replied and I shrugged.

"I'm not making small talk; I'm just talking like we used to when I was your mentor."

"That was a long time ago." He muttered and I sighed.

"You're still such a pain in the ass." I muttered, "you'll never grow up." Alec didn't respond and I smirked.

"Do you think she'll have a gift?" Alec asked after we sat in silence for a while.

"Not sure." I replied, "I feel like she may be like Didyme."

"How so?"

"Well Didyme has a gift of making people around her happy," I said, "I don't know I think Scarlett will be similar."

"Hmm." Was all he said before looking back at his book.

(Scarlett's POV)

"Scarlett." My eyes snapped open at the sound of my name being called. When my eyes opened I was looking into Demetri's red eyes. He smiled looking relieved, yet cautious for some reason.

"Hay." I said and tried to sit up, but he was holding me down and I looked at him in confusion, "why are you holding me down?" I asked and he looked at me in confusion. He slowly moved his hands from me and I sat up.

"You're too calm." Demetri muttered and I looked at him.

"Huh?"

"Well," he said, "most newborns would've attacked me by now."

"New-OH." I said remembering what had happened; "but I didn't feel any pain."

"That was Alec's doing." Demetri smiled and I looked around.

"He left a while ago," Demetri continued as I looked back at him.

"How do you feel?" he asked and I thought.

"Um, I guess different." Demetri laughed.

"You guess," he chuckled and pointed to the bathroom, "go and see for yourself." I stood up way to quickly for a human and then felt Demetri place a hand on my shoulder.

"Maybe try to go a little slower." He said in amusement.

"R-Right." I stuttered and looked down at me feet. He laughed and let me go.

"One step at a time." He said and I focused on my feet as I walked towards the bathroom. The whole time Demetri was laughing at the look on my face. When I stepped into the bathroom I took a deep breath and looking into the mirror.

"Wow." I muttered as I looked at the person in the mirror. I touched my face as I looked back at the red eyes that were staring at me. I jumped when Demetri wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Even when you're senses are heightened you still jump when I appear." He chuckled.

"Hay I'm still getting used to this." I muttered and he smiled then frowned.

"Your throat." He muttered and I looked at him.

"Huh?"

"How does your throat feel?" he asked and I touch my throat.

"Oh," I replied, "now that you mention it; it does burn." His arm around me tightened and I suddenly realized why he asked.

"Come on." He said pulling me back to the room. He handed me a glass of blood that escaped my notice earlier.

"Um." I said looking at the glass and he sighed.

"I told you it would take some getting used to," Demetri said while taking the glass from me. He sat on the edge of the bed and pulled me onto his lap then grabbed the glass of blood.

"Pretend like it's fruit punch." He said and I frowned.

"But I didn't like fruit punch." I said and he rolled his eyes.

"Come on Scarlett." He scolded and I took the glass.

"Ok." I muttered and closed my eyes then held my breath. I drank without even tasking anything and was thankful.

"You look like a child taking medicine." Demetri chuckled as he took the now empty glass away from me.

"That was so weird." I said in a girly tone and he rolled his eyes.

"You'll get used to it." He said and I turned to snap at him but froze when his face was right next to mine.

"You have some on your mouth." He said with a smirk and I tried to touch my mouth with my hand but he stopped me. He leaned forward and licked the edge of my mouth.

"Got it." He smiled and pulled away making me pout.

"Th-That's not fair Demetri." I stuttered and he chuckled.

"What was?" he asked in an innocent tone and I pouted. Before I could respond, his lips were on mine and I instantly moved my hands to his hair. Before I could react he parted my lips and explored my mouth. I was shocked when a groan escaped his lips.

That was really hot.

"I wanted to take you somewhere," he said breaking the kiss, "but that's going to have to wait."

"W-Why?" I stuttered and he smirked while pushing me onto the bed and hovered over me. He didn't answer; instead he kissed me deeply and moved his hands under my shirt. His lips moved down to my neck and he finally spoke.

"Because tonight you're all mine," he murmured against my neck. Before I could respond his lips were back on mine and a small moan escaped my lips as we kissed.

"I love you Scarlett." Demetri said and I smiled before bringing his lips back to mine.

Demetri and I laid under the covers in a comfortable silence. He continued to lay on top of me, but managed to keep his weight off of me as he hugged me close. He nuzzled my neck where his new mark was and purred.

"D-Demetri that tickles." I giggled as he nibbled along my neck. He chuckled and nuzzled my neck again.

"I can die happy now." He finally said.

"I'd prefer to have you around a little longer."

"Only a little?" He pouted looking up at me and I laughed.

"So you had a place you wanted to take me." I said and he smiled.

"You're going to love it Scarlett," he replied, "I know it."
