First off I'd just like to say thank you too everyone who reviewed. You didn't quite get 20, but I still decided to update a few days early. This way I can still post another chapter Thursday or Friday!
But on another note, for fun I have two questions. One is do any of you snapchat? Second I'm curious as to my reader's time zones. So if you would all be so kind as to review and tell me your time zone and if you snapchat that would be awesome. Thanks all.
On another note. I have found an artist on tumblr who is willing to do a picture for Percy, Jason, Nico, Annabeth, Piper, Reyna, and Thalia as they would look with their tattoo's and such. So I hope you guys are as excited as I am. I will probably post these either on my tumblr or something when finished, somewhere so you all can see them. Other than that enjoy reading.
Until the next chapter.
Chapter 36
Percy was getting tired of waking up caged in some random place. It was starting to bother him.
He'd woken up in a cell in a darkened room with one large window allowing sunlight to bask the floor. There was no water, or any sort of drink near him. All he found was a roll of bread, which he'd carefully looked for poison and decided he was hungry and didn't care at the moment.
His best guess was he was somewhere in the Atlantic near the Strait of Gibraltar. Assuming this because he could smell the sea on the wind that blew through the open window, and the saltiness of it convinced him it was the Atlantic, and because he could feel the tug of his ancient homeland he knew he must be near Greece. It was some sort of island, with a massive palace at the top.
Percy was too far away to control the water all around him, but he could feel it calling out to him, just a few feet down and he'd be able to get water to him. Whoever was keeping him here was well informed of his abilities.
He waited for most of the morning until finally someone came to his cell. He was a portly man, bald and well on the other side of well fed. He wobbled in baring a plate with more bread, though this bread seemed to be soaked in wine. "Morning my young prince. Here is you meal. I'm sorry but no water or other liquids aside from wine soaked bread, can't have you escaping know can we?" The portly man jovially said as he pushed the plate under the gate of the cell smiling as if for all the world nothing was out of place.
"You call my young Prince yet you keep me chained? Is wisdom lacking in this place?" Percy questioned, biting into the bread watching the man carefully.
"Well, as I'm not allowed to tell you much, I'm sorry but you'll have to forgive me. Such a shame too. Your father is one of my favorites." The man spoke leaving the room. But as he did so Percy caught sight of a large golden sun emblazoned upon the back of the man's orange robes.
"So, I'm with the eunuchs of Delphi with the Oracle hhmm. Why would they keep me here though is the question. I'm sure Uncle Apollo would go this far for a joke. Well… there was that one time I suppose. Ruined any appetite I have of apples though." Percy said to no one in particular as he finished off the bread and decided to take another look around the room.
"Looks to be around thirty feet by twenty, with my cell being ten by ten. I've got a mat and blanket, and a bucket. Not a good list for escaping is it?" Percy thought aloud to himself.
"No. Not really." Came the response he wasn't waiting for.
"Whoa! Not that I don't mind company…. But might I ask who are you?" Percy questioned after jumping about and coming face to face with a beautiful red headed girl dressed in white flowing robes.
"You may call me Rachel… But many know me as the Oracle of Delphi, servant of Apollo, blah, blah, blah. You get it right? Percy isn't it? Tell me. How is the open sea out there?" Rachel questioned to the window, wistfully staring out to the water.
"Not that I don't mind answering your question. But do you think you could answer mine first? I mean considering I'm the one locked up in a cell and all." Percy sassed going to sit on his bed facing the opposite wall.
"I suppose I could answer some of your questions. But no need to ask as I already know what you're going to say. Yes you are at Delphi, which you already knew, yes these eunuchs serve Apollo, or at least I think they still do. They have been acting a little weird lately, they haven't let as many people in to see me and receive prophecies. No I don't have a key, and as of right now I won't let you out. Yes Annabeth loves you, I know you weren't going to ask but you were most definitely wondering it. And yes she is alive and well, just currently pissed off at you for taking so long to return. Oh! And it's been approximately fifteen days since the Andromeda was destroyed. Sorry you didn't get my warning, I'd asked the Eunuchs to send one too you, so it just must not have arrived in time. And finally I have no idea why they have caged you." Rachel speed spoke, seemingly saying it all in two breaths as Percy tried comprehending everything she'd said.
"…. Thank you…. I think." Percy said rubbing his eyes as he sorted through everything she'd said.
"And my last thing before I must leave as within the next five minutes or so the head eunuch will be down to talk to you, is this. Your mother and father love you, and they know you're alive, but they don't know where you are. You're being shielded by someone, whether it's Apollo or a Titan or some other god I don't know. Have a good day! See you!" Rachel said excitedly skipping out of the room before Percy could get a word in edgewise.
"What… just happened?" Percy asked the air.
Just as Rachel had predicted, a few moments later in walked an older looking Eunuch flanked by two newly appointed eunuchs, obvious by their still baby face and innocent look.
"Good morning Percy. You arrived just as the Oracle foretold. So nice of you to join us." The head Eunuch spoke, his oily voice sending chills up Percy's spine. "I hope you don't mind your room accommodations, it's all we currently have." He said smiling un-genuinely towards Percy.
"Riiiiiiight…. Anyways. When are you letting me out of here? Or perhaps just bringing me a glass of water?" Percy questioned studying the man who stood before him.
"As for water, never my friend. Can't have you escaping before our esteemed guest arrives. He's coming many leagues to meet you, and I'd hate to disappoint. After that. Well we'll see. Now I must be leaving, if you need anything within reason, the man you met this morning, Gilbert, is waiting outside your door to assist you." The Eunuch spoke walking towards the door where his two apprentice's waited.
"Just for further notice. Your name is?" Percy spoke voicing his final question.
"You may call me Ephialt. Goodbye son of Poseidon." Ephialt finished walking out followed closely by the novices.
Two more days passed before Rachel visited again. "Hello Percy? How's life. Well other than being locked up. How is it?" She asked good-naturedly walking in and tossing him an orange.
Deftly catching the Orange he began peeling it, "Oh you know, bored as all get out. And pretty much fed up with everyone here. Especially that Ephialt. He really irks me. Don't really know why. Just does." Percy began sitting on his cot as he enjoyed the fruit.
"So will you tell me?" Rachel quietly asked.
"…. Tell you what? You haven't really asked a question yet. Aside from how I'm doing." Percy dryly responded, smirking at the glare he received from her.
"The sea. How is it out there? Being free?" Rachel wistfully remarked looking back to the window, her annoyance with Percy forgotten.
Dreamily closing his eyes, Percy imagined himself back on the Andromeda, the wind flowing through the sails. Annabeth beside him as Jason steered and Nico kept lookout in the crow's nest. "It's pure freedom. Nothing can hold you done or stop you. The wind blowing through your hair, dolphins swimming beside the ship calling up to you. It just… it's everything one could hope for. It's my life…."
"It sounds wonderful… Oh how I wish I could be out there." Rachel responded as her gaze was held by the water. Suddenly standing up straight she looked to Percy excitement growing in her eyes as she stared at him. "I'LL DO IT!" She shouted running up to the cage as Percy stood, thoroughly perplexed.
"…..do what?" Percy responded.
"You know… Do it. I'll help you…. You know…" Rachel excitedly got out, jumping now as energy coursed through her.
"Rachel. I'm sorry but I still have no idea what you're talking about." Percy exasperatedly said confused as to what she was implying.
"I'll help you escape! Under one condition." Rachel said finally standing still for a moment as she looked into Percy's eyes, searching them for the answer before it became apparent.
"And what is your…. One condition?" Percy finally responded after contemplating what she'd said.
"You must take me with you. No matter what. I want to join your crew, I want to sail the seas. Please Percy. Please! It's all I've ever wanted. To be free…" Rachel whispered her voice dropping with each word as her face fell, dreaming even then of freedom from her imprisonment.
"What about Apollo? I'm sure he won't appreciate me taking his Oracle." Percy smirked as she glared at him.
"Everyone knows you're his favorite Nephew. So don't even give me that crap! Plus he'll find someone else soon enough. So what do you say?" Rachel gruffly said looking to the door, fearing someone would catch them.
"Fine. When will you get me out?" Percy questioned.
"Tomorrow morning Ephialt will come to visit you. That's when it will happen. I also know a ship is coming, and that can be our escape route." Rachel said, excitement once again growing in her eyes.
"We'll only take a row boat. I'm not going to take a Greek's ship." Percy deadpanned crossing his arms as he looked to Rachel.
"Why not?! Come on. How are we going to get anywhere in a row boat?" She exasperated angry with Percy's stubborn attitude.
"Trust me. That row boat will be all we need." Percy explained smiling as she finally relented leaving as she knew it was almost feeding time for Percy.
"Tomorrow then." She finished closing the door.
Tomorrow came sooner than Percy expected. He was greeted by the sound of the door opening, and just as Rachel expected in walked the ever proud Ephialt. "Good morning Percy. How is your stay here at Delphi?"
"A wonderful experience I must say. The food is a little so-so but other than that, the bed is clean, I'm getting some nice sunlight. Could use a better workout area but what's a few days short of a run right?" Percy sassed smirking as annoyance flashed across Ephialt's face.
It was then Rachel decided to make her appearance, walking in with a cup in her hands. "Morning Ephialt! How are you this morning?" Rachel innocently asked walking right in and past Ephialt, whose mouth was agape in shock at her entrance, then fear as he saw what was in her hands.
"GET OUT! You can't have that in here. That's…. just get out, the prisoner can't be around it!" Ephialt yelled trying to push Rachel out.
"Why?" Rachel asked innocently again stopping dead in her tracks and causing Ephialt to stumble past her.
"Rachel! NOW!" Ephialt shouted at her, as she pretended to be scared jumping spilling the contents of her glass towards Percy's cell as water flowed freely to him.
With little more than a wave of his hand the liquid flowed straight to him before shooting out and pulling Ephialt tight against the bars. "Hello my good friend. You wouldn't happen to have the keys to my cell would you?" Percy gloated grabbing the keys off a rope under the folds of the prophet's robes.
Lifting his hand to try and stop Percy he stopped midair as Rachel gasped in fear looking to Ephialt's arm. "P-P-P-Percy look!" Rachel stuttered out pointing to Ephialt's forearm.
Opening the cell and grabbing Ephialt's hand, Percy pushed back the sleeve to reveal the mark of Kronos upon his arm. "Looks like the Prophet's of Apollo are slipping. Come now, into the cage you go. Pig!" Percy growled out, throwing Ephialt into the cell roughly as he fell to the ground crying out in pain as he hit. "Let's hope our friend serves lunch on time today." Percy darkly said following Rachel out of the room at a run.
Running to a store room nearby, Rachel opened the door revealing all of Percy's gear he'd had on him when he'd been picked up, that being Riptide, which Percy grabbed with a look of relief as they ran from the room, heading towards the exit.
As they exited the building they found themselves at the top of a huge staircase, but at the bottom they could see the ship Rachel had mentioned. "Steps… This is going to suck." Rachel said before taking off after Percy who had hardly stopped once exiting.
It took them thirty minutes to finally reach the bottom, sneaking aboard the ship to grab a row boat. But once the boat touched the sea, it came to life, as Rachel sat down Percy just stood commanding the ship forward as fast as it would go. Plans for what needed to be done on Calypso's island already playing through his mind as he searched for his target.
"Do you mind if we make a stop before getting to the crew?" Percy asked eyes closed as he searched the sea.
"Not at all." Rachel smiled already knowing what Percy wished.
A day later they floated up next to a passing merchant ship waving as if they'd been stranded. "Watch this. It's a trick Aunt Athena taught me. Well… more like a code phrase." Percy whispered to Rachel before standing and shouting across the water to the approaching ship. "Time may take a while to pass, but it always comes!" Percy mysteriously shouted as the captain looked questioningly to Percy before ordering the ship to pull up to them.
"Good day friends of Kronos! Might we be of service? You seem to be in quite the predicament? Might I ask where you ship has gone off too?" the captain spoke as they pulled closer, not quite ready to let them aboard yet.
"We were in pursuit of a Greek vessel when those damned Hunters came out of nowhere and attacked us. Killed everyone else aboard. We were the only two to escape, and that's only because of the good titan Oceanus's blessing." Percy lied, smirking as he watch the Captain gobble it down, hook, line, and sinker.
"Those Hunters are a damned pest. Someone needs to sink them soon. But I feel as if our new leader will be doing so for us." The captain grumbled as his sailors pulled Percy and Rachel aboard, many looking longingly at Rachel.
"Well boys. It was fun but… we need a ship and some treasure, and you seem to have that. And though I'd hate to rob a Greek ship, desperate times call for desperate measures. But coincidently, you aren't Greek." Percy said smiling as Fear crossed the crews face, as Percy had slowly begun unbuttoning his shirt and throwing it too the wind, revealing his tanned and chiseled body, followed soon after by his now glowing marks and blessings. "Now, do you want the easy way? Or the hard way?" Percy questioned drawing Riptide.
And hour later their entire crew was packed into the row boat as Percy and Annabeth sailed away on their ship. "I really hate the Greeks…" The captain grumbled watching his merchant vessel and gold sail away.
It had been almost a month since Percy had been set free into the ocean, and Annabeth was beginning to freak out, she knew it would take a while for Percy to heal, Calypso had told her as much. But it shouldn't have taken this long. Where was her?
"Ship Ahoy!" Connor shouted from up in a tree where he'd been hiding as everyone ran from Calypso's house and the little shack's they'd built out to the beach, seeing as sure enough a merchant ship sailed into the cove running aground on the beach.
"You all look a little lost! Perhaps I can help!" Percy shouted leaping from the deck of the ship into a crowd of demigods and blessed.
Smiling and waving as he received many hugs, and pats on the backs, the crew excited to see him at last.
But his nice welcome soon ended as he found himself upon the ground, Annabeth perched atop him hitting his chest and stomach, anger evident on her face.
"You! Stupid…. Good for nothing…. Sea Weed brained… insignificant…. Little… worm!" She said, punctuating each word with a blow to the body.
Smiling Percy just sat up kissing her full upon the mouth as she gave in, hugging him tight till they were broken apart by an awkward cough.
Looking up they found Nico and Jason waiting with their girlfriends, smiling at Percy who immediately leapt up, hugging his two brother's as they did the same.
"Soooo. Is this our new ship?" Jason said doubtfully, kicking the front of the boat.
"Not a chance. But don't worry, we'll get to that. But first, I'd like to introduce our newest member, ex-Oracle of Delphi, and newest private prophetess of the crew. Rachel Dare!" Percy extravagantly shouted pointing up as Rachel shyly came into view looking down at everyone.
The crew began clapping, all excited to have a new member, and needing something exciting for once since the attack. But to a certain son of Hephaestus it was as if time stopped for a moment, as he stared up at the red haired beauty who stood atop the ship, looking down upon them, as some flaming angel.
"Leo!" Percy shouted snapping him out of his reverie. "You able to save any blueprints?" Percy asked.
"I was able to save all of them, and currently their stored in this new belt Calypso enchanted for me!" Leo said excitedly as he pulled the blueprints out of a pouch on his belt.
"Good. Aboard this ship is all the tools, metal, and supplies we'll need. It's time we make that special blueprint. Beckendorf, you and Leo will be in charge of it. I want groups made up, and this to be made within the next four months. I've even brought celestial bronze, Imperial Gold, and some Stygian Iron to restock our armory." Percy said proudly as Leo showed everyone a special blueprint of a ship with a dragon on the bow, it looked huge, larger than any ship they'd previously seen, except maybe Luke's ship.
"It's time to build our new ship." Percy began. "The ship that will carry out our revenge on Luke and the Watch! Let preparations for the Argo begin!" Percy shouted as a cheer rose from the crew of the Andromeda.
