-Shadow-

Kyouran woke beside her mate. Kakashi grumbled softly as he moved towards her to snuggle. She smiled softly. The last year had gone by so fast. In a few days Kakashi would step down and name Naruto the next Hokage. Something rippled across her senses. A frown marred her features. Something was wrong, but she couldn't place it. Then realization dawned on her. Sakura was due back from her mission today. Carefully, she untangled herself from Kakashi. He protested as he came half awake.

"Go back to sleep mate," she murmured.

"Something wrong?"

The concern in his voice made him start to sit up. She rested her hand on his shoulder and pushed him back down. Leaning down she kissed his lips softly.

"No just need to check something out."

He nodded his head before laying back down trusting her instincts on these things. She pulled back from him and changed into her ninja gear so she wouldn't be dressed in her pjs when she had to shift back from her fox form. Kyouran shifted into her fox form and vanished into the shadows. Her paws led her to the front gates. She sat there waiting. Her tail swishing back and forth and her ears twitched at every sound. Solitary footsteps caught her attention. A familiar head of pink hair tried to sneak into the village after signing in.

"You know you sneaking around isn't suspicious at all, Sakura."

A startled gasp escaped the medic nin. Sakura whipped around to face her, her hand over her wildly beating heart. A blush across her cheeks knowing she'd been caught.

"Kyouran I..." she started.

She got up and walked towards hers. Kyouran circled the girl quietly for a moment sizing her up.

"East kit I want you to come have breakfast with me."

"But I have to report to Kakashi..."

"He's still sleeping. Come with me," her voice soft but there was a command there.

She looked about ready to protest at the command but shut her mouth. The pink haired medic nin learned quickly not to dally or ignore a command from the Shadow Fox. The repercussions for ignoring her were never fun. "Get on."

Kyouran presented her back to the nin. Sakura sighed softly before nodding her head. Kyouran tensed when she took in the girls scent. She relaxed so fast that Sakura probably didn't see it. Something big had happened on her mission and Kyouran would find out what it was.

"Kyouran..."

"Were shadow jumping kit so hang on."

Her fingers buried in her fur as Kyouran jumped through shadows to land in front of a building Sakura didn't recognize. Sakura looked around in confusion. Even the town wasn't familiar to her. A woman with a black cat like tail was setting up a food stand up the road and other people were doing the same.

"Where?"

"We're in the Demon Hidden Leaf. A friend of mine owns the place."

Sakura slid off her back to allow Kyouran shift. They walked into the place. There were a couple of demons in there eating. The medic couldn't identify what the demons in the building were. They paused at their entrance but went back to their food. Sakura sagged a bit in relief to have their eyes off of her. Demon eyes still unnerved her sometimes even though she's only come across a few in her lifetime thus far. A man came out with reddish brown ears on top of his head and a fox tail swishing excitedly behind him. If she'd had to guess what he was she would've placed her money on the guy being a fox demon.

"Ah mistress welcome, welcome to you and your lovely guest."

"Thank you Daichi."

"Sit where ever Mistress, and I'll be with you in a moment."

They chose a seat at the bar away from the others in the restaurant. The other demons dipped their heads at Kyouran as they passed. Kyouran dipped her head back at their silent greetings. The demons acted as if she weren't even there which made her relax a bit until she remembered that Kyouran was a demon and probably had smelled things. Sakura became nervous as they sat down.

"Don't worry Sakura you're not in trouble nor will I allow anything to happen to you here."

Sakura wondered if Kyouran could read minds or something. She relaxed only a little bit. The menu seemed odd to Sakura on what some of the stuff was. Kyouran chuckled at her confusion.

"It's okay kit you'd have to be a demon to use that menu. Do you want me to order something for you?"

"Please," Sakura said.

Daichi came and sat down a teapot before looking expectantly for their orders. Sakura listened but couldn't make out the language that Kyouran was using. She just gave up trying to figure out what was being said. The man jotted something down on the pad before going back behind the counters. Kyouran poured each of them a cup of tea. The tension was getting on Sakura's nerves so she spoke up first.

"So..." Sakura began.

"Wanna tell me why you smell like Sasuke and one of your swords are missing?"

"How... right demon. It just happened Kyouran. I…"

The scent of salt was in the air which made Kyouran uneasy. Her kit was hurting and her motherly instincts were kicking in to make the hurt go away. She should've known by now that Kyouran didn't really condemn couples for being in love. They couldn't help it after all.

"Easy kit. You should know I'm not going to condemn you for being in love nor sleeping with your mate."

Sakura in mid sip of her drink choked. Kyouran patted her back softly.

"What I..."

"You're scents are mingled Sakura. You've always had a bit of Sasuke's sent apart of yours but now that you're mates it's stronger."

Her face was beet red. "Not to mention the life inside of you growing, makes Sasuke's scent even stronger on you."

Sakura was getting redder and just as quickly she fainted. Kyouran caught her easily. Daichi came out and froze. He said the food down and went to look over the pink haired nin. Clearly concerned for the pink haired human.

"She's okay. Just pregnant."

The man smiled hugely and nodded in understanding. His tail swishing excitedly.

"Yukiko fainted some when she was first pregnant with our kits," he said reverently.

Kyouran smiled softly. She tried not to let her thoughts linger on her kit that she lost, but it reared its head in her mind but she shook it off Sakura needed all of her attention right at that moment. Then she turned her attention to Sakura again, and lightly she patted Sakura's face.

"Wake up kit."

It took a couple minutes for Sakura to stir. Then Kyouran noticed the dark circles under her eyes and realized something was up with Sakura other than pregnancy.

"Wha..." she said weakly.

"When's the last time you ate or slept?"

"Yesterday I think," Sakura said hesitantly.

"Sakura..."

"I know, but I was confused and stressed out. I didn't know what to do."

Tears were sliding down the girl's pale cheeks.

"I can tell Sakura, and it'll be alright. You should have faith in your family. There are shades of gray Sakura and I firmly believe that and so does Kakashi."

"I think my team especially Naruto will be mad."

"I think you underestimating their compassion Sakura. You are family to them so if your happy they'll come around and be happy for you."

Sakura seemed so unsure by the demoness's words.

"But what about my baby? What am I going to say to Sasuke?"

"Easy kit, easy. Well figure it out one issue at a time. Now eat first."

Sakura nodded her head. She took a few bites of the food and then looked at Kyouran. "I think you should keep it under wraps that Sasuke's a dad."

"But..."

"Let me finish my thought," Kyouran snapped.

Sakura calmed down, and realized Kyouran wouldn't say that without reason and Sakura kind was afraid of what that answer might be. She had an inkling of why the demoness might say that. "I'm just saying the fewer people that know he's going to be a father the better. Now if you see him then you can tell him, but we'll only tell a few people."

"People will question who the father is when I start showing."

"Maybe Naruto can devise a mission for you to go on when you start showing."

"But..."

"Sakura this baby, Chiharu and Sasuke are the last of their kind. You have to protect them."

Sakura nodded her head as tears fell. Kyouran gathered her in her arms and rocked her back and forth. Sakura started rambling and Kyouran reached up and grabbed the pressure point in her neck to knock her out. She couldn't help but flinch doing this to her because Sasuke had done it to her so long ago, but it was necessary for her and the baby's health. Shaking her head she looked down at the normally strong girl that was reduced to this worrying mess of a creature.

"Poor kit," Daichi said softly. "So many worries for happy news. If they were true mates not so many."

Kyouran shot him a glare that made him dip his head in apologies.

"There mates in everything but human standards," she said in a biting tone.

"Poor kit," he finally said after he got the message in her glare and biting words.

"Bag up out breakfast. I'm going to take her home."

He nodded his head and busied himself bagging the food up. Kyouran reached for her money wallet but Daichi waved her off. Kyouran hated when he did that but right now Sakura was her biggest concern. She'd tell her brother to give the man some money later for the food and a generous tip and she'd pay him back later. She took the sword that was strapped to her back off Sakura and put it on her own back.

"For the kit and her new baby."

Kyouran nodded her head as she grabbed the bag. With ease she lifted the unconscious girl as if she weighed nothing. The girl hadn't gained any weight which wasn't good if she was going to be able to carry this baby inside of her. But considering who the parents were this kid would be a fighter. She wondered if the kid would gain the Uchiha genes like so many others. She hoped that some form of change in the pool would give the kid some of Sakura's looks too. Hopefully Sakura's viridian eyes were passed on.

"Come back sometime Mistress."

"I only come here to eat Daichi you know that."

It was left unsaid that people still didn't think much of her in the long run, but her place was with her family in the Human Leaf Village and that was all that mattered to her. He nodded and waved. Kyouran left and shadow jumped to Kyo's house. Both were home. They were upstairs. Thankfully she caught them at the right moment and they weren't mating. It seemed that they were just waking up.

"Mom?" Kyo called from upstairs there was concern in his voice and still a bit sleepy.

"I need Kaho to come down and look at Sakura."

There was some fumbling around to get dressed sounds coming from upstairs. Kaho and Kyo came down the steps. Kaho rushed to Sakura's side and pulled the girl towards her from her mother-in-laws arms and began checking her over quickly. Kaho paused in mid examination and frowned softly. Kyo stood beside his mother and watched his mate work over Sakura. He took a deep breath making Kyouran look at him.

"Mom she's…" Kyo started.

"I know."

"With Sasuke's…"

"Kyo," Kyouran reprimanded her son softly. "We aren't going to broadcast the pregnancy or who the father is. He has too many enemies right now for that. When we were eating I didn't even throw out a last name."

"Man I didn't think he'd do it," Kyo finally said with a hint of wonder in his voice. "Well I knew it was his goal in life and all that but wow. I never thought he'd actually with Sakura after what happened."

"Kyo stop being an ass," Kaho growled at her mate. "So how many people are allowed to know she's pregnant?"

"Kakashi and Naruto for sure as their positions as Hokage demands for this kind of situation. Tsunade because if you can't do checkups on her Tsunade can. We need this kid to grow strong and healthy inside of her."

They nodded their heads in understanding. A soft groan escaped Sakura as she came too finally with a gentle prod from Kaho's healing chakra. Her hand came up and held her forehead. Her eyes blinked sleepily. Kyouran would demand she rest after she went to Kakashi.

"Wha…"

"Easy Sakura," Kaho said as she helped the other med nin sit up.

Sakura closed her eyes quickly and leaned against Kaho. Kyouran could see her fighting off a dizzy spell.

"Why did you..." Sakura started.

"You were stressing out too much Sakura, and I felt it was necessary."

Sakura leaned heavily against Kaho. She didn't need to be told that would've happened if she got too stressed out. Tears gathered in her viridian colored eyes. Kyouran groaned softly on the inside. The mood swings were starting early.

"What if Sasuke doesn't…"

"Sakura," Kyouran snapped sharply enough to stop the babbling. "Sasuke wants children, a family and you're that to him whether he actually acknowledges it to himself out loud or not is a different story. In his own stunted way Sasuke loves you."

A soft giggle escaped the med nin at that last part. Sakura placed a hand on her stomach and got a far off look in her eyes. Kyouran didn't want her to over think this thing. If Sasuke didn't want anything to do with the child, or Sakura she'd be there for the pink haired girl. Though, Kyouran didn't think it would be like that.

"She's good now Mom," Kaho finally said. "And the baby is fine."

"Come on Sakura I'll take you to Kakashi."

Kyouran rose and offered her arm to the pink haired medic ninja. She gestured to the food on the floor in the bags with a tilt of her head.

"Kyo take the food to Sakura's place."

The fox kit nodded and vanished with it in a cloud of silver leaves. Sakura reached out to catch one of the leaves but it crumbed in her hands. Kyouran smiled softly at the small smile on the girls face.

"Come on kit," Kyouran murmured softly.

Sakura draped her arm over Kyouran's shoulder. The medic nin took a deep breath before Kyouran shadow jumped into the Hokage's office. Kakashi looked up in confusion. Kyouran moved forward and sat Sakura down in a chair to steady her.

"Kyouran?" Kakashi asked in a worried and confused tone.

Sakura smiled weakly at her sensei.

"You don't have to tell him kit if you don't want to right now."

"It's okay. You took me in when my family died so that makes you family. If family can't know then I don't know who else should. We're family after all."

"Sakura?" Kakashi looked on expectantly.

"A week into my mission I ran into trouble with some Rain nins Out of nowhere a ninja clad in black helped me."

Sakura noticed that Kakashi tensed right away at that.

"Continue," Kakashi finally said.

"When I was about ready to punch him in the teeth sharingan eyes were staring back at me. Sasuke caught my fist, but thankfully I pulled my chakra before he caught my fist. Though considering what happened that one time he might've deserved it."

Both chuckled at that.

"Bet that was a shock," Kakashi said.

"He was lucky I could pull my chakra that quick because I might've been a little malicious if I broke his wrist or arm."

They shook their heads at the pink medic nin. Even under the anger at that episode between them the girl still held onto the love she had for the last Uchiha male and Kyouran knew that would serve her well during the pregnancy.

"Go on Sakura."

"So he bailed me out with the Rain nins and vanished."

Sakura took a deep breath and couldn't help the blush that crept up on her cheeks. "The next night he found my room and things happened. I woke up alone and one of my swords were gone and now I'm pregnant."

The room was silent. A pin drop would've echoed in the room at the silence. Kyouran watched her mate's eyes seeing the wheels turning in his head.

"Kakashi-sensei?" Sakura asked nervously.

The older man got up and went around his desk and gathered his student into his arms.

"It's okay Sakura. Sasuke would be proud and so are we as your family."

Sakura burst into tears. Kakashi rubbed her back slowly. Kyouran also moved to hug her. Sakura was sandwiched between the pair. It was like a heavy burden had lightened on Sakura by letting the tears flow.

"I told Sakura only a few people should know about this as possible. You, Naruto and possibly Tsunade as family. Kyo and Kaho know."

Kakashi nodded his head at his mate's words in agreement. "Sasuke should be told only by Sakura if she sees him again. Whether we want to acknowledge or not that brat has made a lot of enemies, and there is still one out there that we need to be concerned about if this child's heritage ever gets out."

Kyouran didn't have to say it out loud about Madara for Kakashi to understand the cryptic message.

"I agree."

"Also when she starts showing a bit more I think she should either go on a mission or assign her a guard, or both."

"You're that concerned Kyouran?" Sakura asked softly.

"Yes I am. Chiharu and this baby are the hope of the clan."

They let that settle on her for a few minutes. A soft smile graced the younger girls face.

"I should start thinking of names," Sakura said.

The two watched her with smiles on their faces. Kakashi kissed Kyouran softly over Sakura's head.

"We'll get through this together as a family."

Sakura nodded her head and took in everything around her and smiled knowing these people would help her and Sasuke's baby for as long as they lived. Though she was a bit concerned about Naruto finding out.

"He'll understand Sakura," Kyouran said. "Naruto always does."

Sakura looked up at the older woman.

"You can read minds can't you?"

"Not really I just know you so well."

Sakura blushed at the words. "It'll be fine Sakura I promise. Naruto is probably going to want to be the god father or something to the baby."

"He will be the best uncle ever so long as he doesn't teach the baby any of his bad habits."

"He won't I'll make sure of that," Kyouran growled softly.

Sakura smiled and hugged the fox tightly. "Let's get you home kit you need to sleep for awhile."

Sakura nodded her head and allowed Kakashi to let her go. Kyouran gathered her up and shadow jumped to the girl's home. She ushered the sleepy girl to her bed. Once Sakura got changed she got into bed and as her head hit the pillow she was asleep. Kyouran looked at her weapons pouch and frowned. Dumping out the contents there was a small bag with an Uchiha Clan symbol on it. She opened it and dumped the contents in her hand. It was a necklace bearing the Clan symbol of Sasuke's clan and a shuriken also stamped with the symbol. Kyouran wracked her brain and then remembered that these were gifts from a male to his chosen female. A huge grin spread across her features as she put the items away. Sasuke had chosen Sakura as his mate and if things worked out they would marry. Shifting she hopped up on the window seat to keep vigil on the girl while she slept deeply.
