Sound of Drums- Part 2
"Alright?" The Doctor asked everyone.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Jack answered.
"Startled, my shoulder hurts, but fine." I said.
"Martha?" The Doctor asked. I looked around to see Martha had taken out her cell phone and was calling someone. "What are you doing?" As The Doctor turned around to see martha calling.
"He knows about me, what about my family?"
"Don't tell them anything!" The Doctor shouted.
"I'll do what I like!" Martha yelled back. "Mum! Oh my God, you're there!...I'm fine, Mum, has there been anyone asking for me?...I can't, not now!...Don't be so daft, since when?...You'd never get back with him in a million years...Dad? What are you doing there?"
The Doctor was coming closer to Martha as she talked.
"Dad, just say yes, or no. Is there someone else there?...Dad!" Martha closed her phone and ran to her car. "I've got to help them!"
"You can't! That's exactly what they want you to do!" The Doctor yelled.
"I don't care!" Martha said. We got into Martha's car and drove off to Martha's Mom's house.
"Come on Tish, pick up!" Martha said as her cell called on speaker. The Doctor was in the passenger seat and I was next to Jack in the back of the car.
"Martha, I can't we just made first contact, did you see? What are you doing!? Get off! Leave me alone!"
"What's happening! Tish!" Martha called into the phone. "This is your fault. This is all you fault! And it's your's too, Susan! Don't think you're off the hook!"
We rounded the corner to see Mr. and Miss. Jones being loaded into a police cage. "Martha!" We heard her mother's voice call. "Get out of here!"
"Target identified!" A woman yelled as soldiers ran up and got in a line before pointing their guns at us.
"Martha reverse!" The Doctor said.
"Take aim!"
"Martha get out of here!" The Doctor shouted. Martha pulled the car back and turned around.
"Fire!"
The soldiers opened fire on the car and broke the back window of the car as we speed away.
"The only place he can go is planet Earth!" Martha said, angrily.
"Careful!" The Doctor said.
"Martha, listen to me. We've got to ditch this car. Pull over. Right now!" Jack said.
We parked the car under a bridge and got out of it. "Martha, come on!" The Doctor said as Martha made yet another phone call.
"Leo! Thank God! Leo, you've got to listen to me. Where are you?...Leo, just listen to me. Don't go home. Don't phone Mum, or Dad or Tish. You've got to hide...On my life, you've got to trust me on this! Go to Boxer! Stay with him. Don't tell anyone! Just hide!...Let them go, Saxon! Do you hear me! Let them go!" Martha shouted into the phone.
The Doctor ran over to Martha and took her phone and said "I'm here." Then The Doctor wondered off, talking to The Master.
Martha looked at me, her face filled with anger. "You knew about this! All the time, you knew!"
"How could she have known?" Jack asked Martha. "Leave her alone.
"She comes from a Parallel Universe, except with one thing that's different from here. Our lives are a T.V. show in her world. She knew this was going to happen! She let it happen!" Martha yelled the last line before bringing her hand up to hit me.
Jack grabbed Martha's hand before it could strike me. "No she didn't." Jack said softly. I walked away from them and sat on a bench, my face blank. But I could still hear them talk.
"How do you know?" Martha asked him, angrily.
"Because I overheard her conversation with The Doctor when you were helping people into the ship back in the year 100 trillion. She wanted change what was going to happen. She got to the point where she was sobbing." Jack told Martha.
"Where did The Doctor go?" Martha asked, avoiding talking about what Jack said.
"Over there." Jack said. "We should go to him." Martha hurried over The Doctor. I got up and Jack followed, next to me. "Giver her time." Jack said to me. I nodded, still progressing what happened.
We headed over to The Doctor to see him looking in a store that had a T.V. on. As I looked closely I saw a woman speaking and four photos of Jack, The Doctor, Martha and me. I looked at Jack and asked "What about the me in this universe. Do they know the difference?" I asked, panicked.
"I don't know." Jack told me and put an arm around me. It was then that I wondered who I was to Jack in the future, well my future, his past, obviously.
"He can see us!" The Doctor said, taking out his sonic and pointing it at the security camera, causing it to stop working. "He's got control of everything."
"What do we do?" Martha asked.
"We've got nowhere to go." Jack said.
"Doctor, what do we do?" Martha asked sternly.
"We run." The Doctor replied. And we ran.
We were sitting in a wide abandoned alleyway, around a fire. Martha had gone for supplies. The Doctor was thinking, while looking on a laptop and Jack and I were sitting on a bench that we took from a park.
Jack put his arm around me when I started to shiver. "How's your shoulder?" He asked gently.
I eyed him and said "It hurts."
"Martha should be back soon with painkillers and other supplies." Jack said. As if on cue, Martha came back, walking fast with a plastic bag filled with supplies.
We broke apart fast. Jack stood up and said "Did anyone see you?"
"I don't think anyone saw me. Anything new?" Martha replied. She put her hand into the bag and pulled out Advil and a bottle of water. She handed them to me.
"Thanks." I told her.
"Sorry about earlier." Martha said.
"It's okay." I told her. I took two Advil out and swallowed them with the water.
"I've got this," Jack pointed to his Vortex Manipulator. "Tuned into the government so we can follow what Saxon's doing."
"Yeah, I meant about my family." Martha said, walking over to The Doctor.
"It still says 'The Jones family taken in for questioning.' Tell you what though," The Doctor said as Martha handed him a sandwich. "They mentioned no Leo." Martha handed me a sandwich also, then Jack one. I finished it in under a minute.
"I guess he's not as daft as he looks." Martha said, smiling. "I'm talking about my brother on the run... how did this happen?"
"Nice chips." Jack said to The Doctor, sitting back down on the bench, next to me. Martha pointed her head towards The Doctor and Jack sighed and asked. "So, Doctor, who is he? How come the ancient society of Time Lords created a psychopath?"
"I mean, what is he to you? A colleague?" Martha asked.
"Friend or first?" The Doctor asked back.
"I thought you were going to say he was your secret brother or something." Martha said.
Silence.
Then, "You've been watching too much T.V." The Doctor said.
"But all the legends of Gallifrey made it sound so perfect." Jack said.
"Well, perfect to look at maybe." The Doctor said. "And it was, it was beautiful. Used to call it the shining world of the seven systems. And on the continent of wild endeavor, in the mountains of solitude, there stood the citadel of the Time Lords. The oldest, most mightiest race in the universe. Looking out on the galaxy's below, sworn never to interfere, only to watch. Children of Gallifrey went to the academy. Some say that's where it all began. When he was a child. That's when The Master saw eternity. As a novice, he was taken for initiation. He stood in front of the untempered Schism itself. A gap, in the fabric of reality. Which can be seen the whole vortex. He stood there, eight years old, staring at the whole power of time and space, just a child. Some would be inspired. And run away. And some would go mad."
"What about you?" Martha asked.
"Oh, the ones that ran away, never stopped." The Doctor responded.
