Sonic and Tails were in Los Angeles for business, but at the time they were at a night art gallery looking at up-and-coming new artist's works. Tails happen to know the owner so when he ran into him, it was a small highschool reunion for the two.
"Miles! Miles Reid! Dude! Look at you! You look just the same," the friend said giving Tails a friendly hug. "Ha ha! Look at you, dude. Nothing's changed. Miles was the only 12-year-old in our graduating class. Just the same."
"Thanks," was the only thing Tails could say at the comment. "This is Special Agent Sonic Rossi. This is Parker Dunley. We went to high school together, as you can probably gather."
"How are you?" Sonic asked Parker shaking his hand.
"Hey," Parker said shaking back.
"It's a beautiful gallery."
"Thank you."
"Sonic's a big contemporary art enthusiast," Tails told Parker.
"Well, we're exhibiting in this show. Everything's for sale, and I can definitely swing a nice discount for a friend," Parker said, then he saw two girls walk in the room. "Abby. Hey. Guys, come on."
Parker walked over to the girls to introduce them to the agents, but the agents stayed behind for a quick second.
"Do I look twelve years old to you?" Tails asked concerned.
"Fourteen?" Sonic suggested but it didn't help so two decided to meet the two ladies.
"Miles, I'd like you to meet a real movie star," Parker told Tails referring to the blue jay.
"Movie star? Please," the other girl, a pink fox, said. "She has a supporting role on a television series about beach volleyball. Totally blue-collar."
"I'm Abby," the blue jay said introducing herself.
"Hi," Tails said, he was flattered at her appearance and was stumbling for words. "I'm, uh, I'm Doctor Miles Reid. Uh- I'm Miles. You don't have to call me Doctor.
"I won't," Abby said smiling at his stuttering. Then a cheetah paparazzo started taking photos of Abby and the others, this caught Parker's attention.
"Excuse me," Parker said to the two as he went to get rid of the photographer. "Hey! I told you! No photos in the gallery! Out!"
Meanwhile, Sonic had left to look at some art when the girl that Abby had come with walked up to him.
"And who are you?" The fox asked seductively.
"I'm Sonic Rossi. I'm a friend of-" he started to say but was interrupted, he wasn't interested in the girl.
"Have you seen my work?"
"No," Sonic found himself being dragged by the arm by this pick fox as he saw Tails and Abby still talking.
"So, you're not from around here, are you?" Abby asked Tails.
"Me? No. No," the timid fox replied. "I'm, uh, we're running a training service about profiling for the Los Angeles Police Department."
"Profiling?"
"Yeah, I'm with the Behavioural Analysis Unit of the FBI. We psychoanalyze crime scenes in order to gain a better understanding of the criminal who might have committed the crime."
"Psychoanalyze, huh? Are you doing that to me right now?"
"What? No. I'm not psychoanalyzing you. I'm just..."
"Miles, I'm kidding."
Meanwhile, the fox had taken Sonic to view one of her works.
"One of my earliest works," the girl told him. "Totally boring."
"Oh, I don't think so," Sonic said being nice. "Nothing's just a picture. If viewed correctly, whatever that means, one can see world views, obsessions, in manifestations of the subconscious."
"If I weren't a lesbian, I'd jump your bones!" She got in his face, the blue hedgehog remained calm and collective. "I've always had this thing for blue guys. You have these piercing, discerning eyes which remind me of my father who was a shrink. And I'm like 'I am so hot.'"
"Pinky, some guy from artnews wants to talk to you," a guy shouted to the pink fox.
"Don't go away," Pinky told Sonic. Sonic then made his move: he searched for Tails who was looking at a picture with Abby.
"We're leaving," Sonic ordered Tails, he was in a hurry to leave.
"We're still looking at the exhibit," Tails said smiling.
"Now," Sonic said firmly as he started to leave.
"Yeah, I guess we're leaving," Tails said to Abby.
"Tails, now."
"Nice to meet you," Tails shook Abby's hand and followed the hurrying Sonic. He almost bumped into a server but managed to not hit them, then they left the gallery.
The next morning, Sonic and Tails were at the police station giving the training service to the detectives and other cops there.
"Today, we thought we'd focus on what is probably the most important component of profiling, or for that matter, any investigative technique: victimology," Tails started off. "The word victim stems from the Latin word victima which means 'sacrifice.' Victims of violent crimes are brutalized by a subject who takes upon him or herself to decide life and death over a fellow human being.
"There are around sixteen million people in the Los Angeles metropolitan area," Sonic continued. "Every time a person is killed, robbed, or raped, the most important question you will ask yourself is why? Why did your Unsub choose this victim at this time? Is there anything done which provoked the criminal to act? Or was the target available or weak, a causality of circumstance?"
Meanwhile a boyfriend of a famous girl, Natalie, had gotten to her bungalow.
"Natalie? Natalie," he called to her but there was no response.
Then he walked over to the living room where he found the girl shot in the head execution style. He started to freak out when the Unsub, wearing a black outfit and a black motorcycle helmet came in the room.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
