DISCLAIMER: Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi and Barakamon belongs to Satsuki Yoshino. Two highly respected mangaka! I do not own the characters in any way nor the story plot. Only the idea of this fanfiction!
Note: Dimensional Lovers updates every 10 reviews! Due to my other stories taking time as well, if these one-shots become popular, I do make time for them! Because you all deserve to get some fluff/romance/action whatever pairings with Kagome!
MizukixTsukiyomi's Notes: This is a gift for BUNNY-WK! Masquerabe (Beautiful Phantom) had a secret Santa exchange within the Kagomexover community in Tumblr so here we are! I got Bunny-WK, and from her list, I chose to do this pairing. I do hope you like it, Bunny! I hope to continue out of this story because Shiro and Kagome have great personalities that compliment each other, but Kagome also is fun to write with the whole other Voltron cast. Enjoy, Bunny!

Chapter 36: Caged by Darkness, Saved by Darkness
What was this? Were the Galra beginning to kidnap humans? Escaping the Galra ship was high priority, but the plan all but seemed to rewrite itself in his head. Lowering his weapon, the black paladin took a few steps towards the pink human-sized crystal in the middle of the room. The amount of guards outside the room he had to defeat had given him curiosity on what was it that they were trying so hard to protect.
A human.
A human?
A woman, nonetheless.
Inside the pink crystal was a black-haired woman in deep slumber in traditional Asian attire he recognized from his classes as a young boy. It was clothing he knew it was no longer worn on Earth. Taking another cautious step forward, his eyes narrowed wanting answers to the frozen woman. What was Zarkon doing with a human?
"Shiro! We gotta go-!" Blue eyes widened slowly the moment Lance walked into the blush illuminated room holding the girl inside the crystal along what looked like talismans plastered on the walls, and some of the chains holding the crystal up. "Woah…" He whispered, awed by the sight. "What is this room?" His attention landed on their silent captain staring at the frozen woman. "Woah!" He ran towards the crystal, "who is the pretty lady?"
"Don't know…" Shiro replied, eyes still glued on her features. "This is the way I found her."
An explosion down the hall caught their attention; a curse blew out of Lance's lips. "Well let's get the girl out, and go! We don't have much time until the Galra's backup arrives!"
Watching Lance run to the crystal, Shiro reached out to stop him. "Lance! Wait! We don't know what it could do to us!"
"What? The pretty girl? We are having a sleeping beauty moment here! We gotta be heroes, Shiro!" Looking side-to-side for anyway to free the girl, Lance was out of ideas. How on earth were you supposed to take down a crystal like this? Knuckles knocking on the crystal, Lance pouted. "Do we have a hammer in handy?"
"Lance! I told you to bring Shiro!"
"Keith!" Lance shouted back. "We got a bigger problem now!"
Sending the blue paladin a glare, Keith took a step into the room. "What is it that is more important than getting our butts out of here?!"
Stretching out his arms to present the frozen woman, Lance gave him 'duh' expression. "I need to save this beautiful woman's life and become her knight!"
Keith fell silent at the sight of the crystal, and the room covered in talismans. What was Zarkon up to, to be using talismans and a woman? Another explosion made them look to the origin of the smoke. An army of footsteps were coming their way, and they knew time was running out. Pidge and Hunk were ready at the exit fighting off the enemies trying to cage them in the Galra ship. "We gotta go!" He shouted, turning his head to the other two paladins. "Whatever that woman is, she could be danger. There has to be a reason she is caged with talismans like this."
"Her beauty is dangerous, that's why!" Lance huffed before turning to the girl. "We will get you out! Keith is just a boy who will never get a girl because of his selfishness."
With his brow twitching at Lance's comment, Keith's upcoming comment was stopped the moment he heard one of the chains being cut off. Both Keith and Lance blinked seeing Shiro having cut off the chain with his sword.
"H-Hold on a second!" Lance's hands shook in front of him. "S-Shiro! You might make the thing explode!"
Straightening himself out, Shiro's head turned towards the crystal. "I heard talismans keep people in; cutting them off may free her."
Feeling a glow from behind, Lance slowly turned around to see the crystal glowing. Slow steps were taken back as the glow's brightness increased. Silence blanketed the room despite the steps from behind coming closer. Eyes squinted to protect themselves from the blinding light until they noticed the pink crystal once holding the girl captive having broken into tiny pieces. Gravity slowly pushed the unconscious girl forward; Shiro reached out, catching her in his arms.
"It worked…" Lance blinked, surprised one broken talisman was all that was needed.
"The intruders are in the priestess's room! Get them before they get close!"
"That's our warning!" Keith shouted, having heard the Galra guards coming closer. "Let's get out of here!"
Adjusting the girl in bridal style, Shiro nodded. "Let's go." Before they could a take step forward to the exit, their path was blocked by a few of the Galra men who had come in time. "Crap…"
"This isn't good…" Lance whispered, preparing his weapon.
As Lance and Keith came to stand on either side of the black paladin, they quickly realized they were becoming outnumbered. They had to find the quickest way to deal with them, or time would be running out.
"That's what they want." Keith whispered. "They are buying time. We need to find a way to deliver a blow to most of these guards, so we can make an escape."
Eyes narrowed as they watched the Galra guards slowly make their way towards them until they charged. Preparing their stances, the three knew they were going to have a hard time making an opening. A second ticked, and as soon as some of the guards prepared the aim of their laser guns, a blinding pink light swirled out before sparks of the glow hit the guards down to the floor.
Blink after blink, Shiro, Keith, and Lance slowly looked to the origin of the light as it was pulled back into the girl's chest. At that very moment they witnessed her first breath, one they had not taken note of until now.
She had not been breathing even after they got her out of the crystal?
Shiro's eyes narrowed having caught the color of skin slowly returning. She had looked pale, almost like ice, inside the crystal. Now seeing her breathing even out and the color bringing her back to life, he wondered if the crystal had been trying to contain the glow that erupted.
"Did…," Lance's eyes went back and forth from the girl to the fallen guards, "she do that?"
Increasing his guard, Keith took another glance at the girl. "Something tells me Zarkon won't be so happy about this."
"Where are they?" Hunk huffed, tapping his foot. The anxiety was killing him, and the trio of their group were taking too long to reach the exit they had cleared for them. All they needed to do now is jump into their lions and get the heck out of Galra territory! "Hey! Pidge! Are you listening?"
Keeping her eyes on the empty hall, Pidge pouted. "They know the plan, and they wouldn't change it unless something happened."
"Yeah!" Hunk pointed at his helmet, "but they can't forget we can communicate!"
The alarms vibrated with bright colors as the repeated messages of their intrusion echoed. She trusted them, but it was beginning to worry her. Why were they taking so long? Focus squinting, Pidge began to worry for her fellow paladins. They had not been caught, right? "Oh," Pidge blinked, hearing a few foot steps coming closer to their location, "I think that might be them."
"Let's hope." Hunk huffed as he repeatedly tapped his foot on the floor.
As lights continued to flash and bounce off the walls, Pidge and Hunk prayed their escape would come soon. There was no telling when the other Galra ships would come for backup. Their mission was to obtain information from the center, and hopefully transfer it over to their systems. Hopefully they would get closer knowing who and what the Galra were keeping communication with.
Hunk's eyes brightened with relief as he saw the shadows of three men coming their way. "They're here! Lance! Keith! Shiro-oh…is that…"
Pidge blinked again upon seeing the unconscious girl in Shiro's arms.
"Hey guys!" Lance exclaimed. "Let's get going!"
Being the first to meet up with Pidge and Hunk, Keith looked at the door leading them to their waiting lions. "We need to go! Now!"
"Wait a minute!" Hunk pointed at the female. "Who is this?!"
"We will talk about it later." Shiro replied. Looking over his shoulder, he had a feeling taking the girl had become an urgent matter for the Galra. The number of men moving to them had doubled, and from the sound of their quickened pace, he had a feeling they had taken something of value. His head turned back to his partners, "let's go to Princess Allura."
Hesitant, Pidge's eyes scanned back down to the black-haired female whose breathing was beginning to even out. She looked back up; she would ask questions later. Pushing the button to their escape, Pidge and the others set leap to their lions.
Staring at the girl in Shiro's arms, the Altean princess was at a loss for words. The peaceful sleeping woman had been held captive inside a crystal in one of the Galra ships? Zarkon capturing humans was nothing new, but a woman being crystalized was. The minute her paladins walked into the main control room, she and Coran took notice of the girl.
"Hm," Coran placed his fingers under his chin, "this is definitely a first. A woman in a room full of talismans, you say?"
"A bunch." Lance replied, crossing his arms. "It almost felt creepy. Almost as if the beauty here was a curse of somehow."
"She could be." Pidge cut in. "I read about talismans a few years ago when I picked up an eastern religion book. They are used to ward off evil."
Pidge's explanation made Lance's eyes land back on what looked to be a harmless girl. His brow rose, unsure if he should really believe Pidge. She looked angelic! But after witnessing that light eruption, he was beginning to have doubts.
"The question should be why the talismans were put…" Hunk spoke.
"And why Zarkon thought it was important to keep her there." Keith spoke, placing his hands over his hips. "In Shiro's case, when he went missing they were used like entertainment, but it almost seemed like this girl was held like a treasure of sorts. The amount of security to get through those doors was insane! More than the ones in the control room."
Allura listened to Keith's words while keeping her attention on the girl.
"That's not the only matter here."
Eyes rose to meet Shiro's serious gaze.
"This girl released some sort of glow that was able to knock out the Galra guards coming towards us – all at once." Shiro's brows furrowed, "I'm not saying she is dangerous, but…"
Nodding, Allura came to understand Shiro's and the rest of the group's worries. Although she was human, there had to be a reason why Zarkon saw it important to prison her the way he did. "Very well. Shiro, take her to one of the empty rooms. We will have to wait until she awakens to get some answers." Her eyes dropped down to the sleeping female, "all we can do is wait."
Cold.
Dark.
An eternity.
The feeling never ended, and there was no escape. No escape whatsoever. How many days had gone by? Weeks? Months?
Years?
Thinking of time only deepened her pain, and the more she stared at the darkness in front of her, the lonelier she became. It was laughable to think they had won the war. If this is what winning was, she did not want any part of it. Naraku's end had come, and it was a moment they had all been praying for, and it came.
At a price.
Naraku cursed the jewel with his eternal hate; the cycle would continue. There was only one thing to do. Before the Shikon no Tama was fully consumed, the priestess of the future immediately ran to the jewel before making a wish. Inuyasha and the others rushed to save her from doing something so reckless, but she could not see their pain prolong anymore. Fingertips had touched the smooth sphere and it quickly engulfed her into the darkness she saw now. Even when she closed her eyes, she felt a comfort compared to knowing she had her eyes open and still unable to see an end to her misery.
But her wish came true: protect those she loved from the jewel's continuous curses.
She did not know what had come of her outside of the jewel, at least…that is where she was. Her soul trapped in the jewel – trapped forever.
Opening her eyes, her thoughts froze; a breakage of light was seen from afar. The miko's heart beat with hope. 'Is that…light?' She asked herself. Taking a step forward, she immediately stopped. Was the jewel playing with her? Getting her hopes up in a game Naraku's hatred participated in? Fingers curled into her palms as she continued to stare at the glimmering and waiting light.
She missed the warmth.
Before she could take a step forward, the light immediately exploded into an illuminous pink.
She felt the warmth once again.
Cerulean eyes snapped open; chest heaved heavily as beads of sweat clung on her forehead. Her lungs felt like rocks had been stacked inside of her to keep her from breathing. Not moving a muscle, the miko's eyes went side-to-side and blinked at the sight of the black ceiling with a low blue light giving her vision of the room.
A room?
Slowly, the miko sat up. A bed sheet slid off to her waist; her eyes roamed around the empty, yet welcoming room. A simple dresser and full-body mirror occupied the wall opposite to the twin bed she rested on. Strands of hair gracefully fell to the either side of her face making her look down at her lap. 'This is…,' she raised her arm noticing the miko robes she recognized Kikyo once wore, '…when did I get this?'
Her attention was pulled back to the dark room. Where was she? What had happened in the feudal era?
Wanting answers, the miko quickly got her feet to the ground only to place her palm on the wall to keep her up. Her head hazed with flashes of her past and with the darkness she had become familiar with. Looking at the door, she hesitated to continue. Whatever could be waiting her outside of those doors, it was better than the darkness she had been swallowed by.
Anything but the dark.
Cautious steps were taken to the door. Seeing no handle, she searched for a way to open it. Her eyes came down to the green light on the right side of the door with a button below it and what looked to be a speaker of sorts. It was worth a shot. Her hand glossed over the green light. The second it did, the door in front of her slid open to the left. She blinked, taken back by technology.
There was no way the feudal era had these types of mechanics.
The miko took a step outside of her room and was greeted with an empty hall. The only way was forward. She continued to take cautious steps, and quiet ones. Her bare feet unfamiliar with the texture of the flooring. The architect was nothing like Japan's, if that was were she still was. The further she walked down the hall, she began to see different halls leading to more confusion, but she was focused to go forward. It would lead to something. It took about ten minutes to reach the end, and her world immediately stopped.
Eyes slowly widened at the sight before her. The huge windows displaying the scenery of never ending starry sky. Each step that was taken only dropped her into an abyss of confusion. The huge windows did nothing to ease her. Turning her head left and right gave her same sight: stars, and close. Her body numbed, and her mind overflowed with silence. This could not be space.
Could it?
She continued forward, ignoring the computer systems in the middle of the room, and the other command centers around the room. Her focus was glued on the asteroids floating beside the ship. She had to be dreaming. There was no way she was in space. Did the jewel bring her here for a moment of peace?
Her hand came up to her chest; no, the jewel had no heart to give peace.
Standing before the command center, the miko noticed the black screens. As soon as her hand hovered over, it lit up blue with character she did not recognize and charts she was unable to read.
"She isn't there?! Lance, you were supposed to keep an eye on her!"
"Keith! I need my beauty sleep! Besides, she was sound asleep!"
"Well not anymore, is she?!"
The echoed voices down the hall alarmed the miko, making her turn around to see shadows coming closer. The heavy boot steps of the people were heard; her heart raced in worry she was in enemy territory. Instinct made her pink barrier appear before her all the way up to the ceiling as soon as she saw the mysterious people running in the room.
Shock could be read from both sides; silence took over.
The miko's shoulder's tensed, and as she took a step back, she felt the rise in their auras. They were on guard and confused. "Who are you…?"
Recognizing the pink glow of her barrier, Shiro's eyes followed it all the way to the top. So it was her powers? His eyes dropped back to the frightened girl. Holding his palms in front of him, he assured her he meant no harm. "It's okay…," his tone softened, "it's okay. You're safe here."
"Psst," Lance whispered, "we don't know if we can trust her."
"I thought her 'beauty' was enough to convince you?" Keith eyed Lance with a glare.
"We rescued you from one of Zarkon's ships." Shiro continued, taking a step forward. "Are you hurt?"
"Z-Zarkon?" She repeated, eyes narrowing. "What is that? You still haven't answered my question."
Taking a step forward, Allura's facial expression relaxed. "You must have a lot of questions, but we do as well." If there was someone who knew the feeling of waking up from a deep slumber, it was her, and the confusion that was running in her head only clouded reality further. Placing her hand over her chest, Allura offered a gentle smile. "My name is Allura, princesses to the Altean race."
The miko's brows furrowed. Altean race?
"These people here," Allura moved to the side, showing the miko the people standing behind her, "are the pilots of the lions. They rescued you from Zarkon's prison."
A low cough was heard from the side, making eyes glide to the orange haired male with a mustache. "You are forgetting me, princess."
"Oh, right," Allura's sweat drop loomed over her head, "um, this is Coran, my advisor, and an Altean."
Silent, the miko continued to observe the group before her while keeping her barrier up. Altean? Zarkon? Pilots? What was going on? Where was Inuyasha? Her friends? The well? Before she could question their introductions, she blinked the moment she saw the brunette male come forward with a confident smirk.
"The name is Lance! The blue paladin! And the coolest one of the group!" His eyes narrowed to match his grin, which reminded the miko of a certain wolf who had approached here a similar way. "I am the knight that rescued you-"
"I believe it was Shiro." Keith interrupted the one-sided romance. "You were going back and forth if you could trust her or not."
"Shut it, Keith!" Lance pointed an accusing finger to the red paladin.
"Woah," Pidge came in, fearless to the barrier before them, "this is amazing. She made it appear in a second! How did you do it?"
She blinked.
"Can we touch it?" Hunk spoke. "It looks harmless."
"But Shiro did say she was able to knock out some of the Galra guards with something like this, right?" Pidge looked at their leader over her shoulder.
Eyes glued on cerulean, Shiro remained silent. She was frightened. Shoulders dropping, the black paladin took a few more steps forward. "I'll introduce the rest of the team."
She blinked again.
"The curious one here is Pidge, she is our green paladin. The one on my left is Hunk, the yellow paladin. Behind me," he looked over his shoulder, "is Keith, he is our red paladin. You have already met Lance-"
A smile entered the introduction once more.
"…I'm Shiro, the black paladin and the leader to our group."
Giving her time to let everything sink in – and hoping for the barrier to disappear – the others simply stared at the confused girl. Her eyes said it all as she looked at all of them before coming to stare at her feet. The moment her head rose, they were taken back by the question.
"What year is it?"
Shiro turned his head over his shoulder to see the others just as confused. Turning his attention back to the miko, Shiro replied. "It's 2117…"
Slowly, the miko's eyes widened. '2…117?' She looked around her surroundings once again, half understanding why she could in space. A logic that remained in fantasy in her – what used to be – modern era. The future? Was this the future of the earth she knew? A sudden pang in her head made her wince; quickly raising her hand to her forehead, the miko let out a low groan.
Shiro and Pidge were quick to react to her pain by running forward the moment her barrier came down. Coming to either side of her, Shiro and Pidge noticed her tears brimming with tears.
"Um," Pidge gulped, "are you alright?"
"It has to be a dream…" she whispered. It had to be. Her eyes slowly rose to meet the concerned expression of the black paladin. "Please tell me I am dreaming…"
Speechless, Shiro was unsure what to say or think. Dreaming? Had waking up become a nightmare? Noticing her knees becoming weak, Shiro's hands gently grasped her elbows. "Careful!"
"I lost it all…" the miko whispered. "I lost all that time." She sniffed her sorrow as her head hung down; fingers curled into her palm, nails digging into her skin. "T-This can't be happening…" Eyes slowly closed as her slumber began to eat her up again. "Five…hundred years have passed…"
Shiro quickly caught her again in his arms; Pidge blinked as her body went limp.
"Did she say…five hundred years?" Pidge whispered.
"Hold it!" Lance cut in, feeling safe to come forward. "She said five hundred years have passed!"
The group was in a stretched silence. It what she said was true, then they had only dug a deeper hole in their minds. Five hundred years ago? When was that in their timeline? As Lance and Hunk began counting with their fingers, Allura could not help but come forward.
"Princess?" Coran whispered, noticing the Altean princess's expression having softened for the girl.
Allura remained quiet even as Shiro adjusted the mysterious girl in his arms. The shock she felt was soon as she heard the year she was in, and with her words, they could assume she was from five hundred years ago, if not more. Shiro and the others had said she was imprisoned in a crystal; the girl reflected the same confusion and thoughts she had when she first came to meet the pilots. "Shiro." She spoke, catching him off guard. "Take her back to her room. We can ask questions when she is well."
Nodding, Shiro slowly got up on his feet before looking at the unconscious girl in his arms.
Five hundred years had passed.
Opening the door to the girl's room, Shiro quietly went in. Dim lights turned on their own to illuminate the path to her bed. Gently as possible, Shiro placed the miko on the soft mattress. He had a lot of questions he had hoped to get answers to as soon as she awoke, but the way she had taken the news had proven something.
She was not well.
His eyes landed on her closed eyes and the wrinkles between her brows as she winced. He could understand; being on Zarkon's ships was anything but pleasant. Perhaps she was traumatized? Sighing under his breath, Shiro turned around to leave her.
Fingers gently captured his right hand.
Head turned towards the miko; his eyes widened slightly.
"Is it…," the miko whispered, voice hoarse, "really 2117?"
Eyebrows furrowing, Shiro nodded. "I am afraid so, ma'am."
Releasing a tired scoff, the miko's eyes landed on the ceiling. "Fate has a sense of humor."
He listened.
"I…wake up to a future I was not expecting. A future where nothing is longer relevant." Her blue eyes slowly closed as the grip on his hand tightened slightly. "Everything of my past…is gone."
"Gone?" He repeated. "Do you not have family on earth?"
"I did."
Shiro's chin tilted down having heard her past-tense.
"You said your name is Shiro, right?" Meeting his gaze, she sent him a small smile. "White, huh? Kagome." She introduced herself. "Higurashi Kagome."
So she was Japanese. She had even translated his name.
"Thank you for saving me." Kagome continued. "I am not sure who the enemy is at this point, but something tells me…," his aura glowed, "I can trust you."
Returning her smile with one of his own gentle ones, Shiro nodded. "No need to thank me, Kagome. I'm just glad we were able to save you when we could. Get some rest, you need it."
The sleep was heavy, and although she wanted more answers, she was going to listen to the drowsiness in her head. Five hundred years in the jewel's own imprisonment had sucked all of her reiki to keep it strong, and to ensure no one would disrupt her slumber, she had wished for the talismans to keep her safe.
But it was all to keep the jewel away from the wrong hands.
Feeling her fingers slowly slip away from his hand, Shiro waited until her breathing evened out in her sleep. She was lost, traumatized, and alone.
A broken soul, like his.
"Take the left ones, Lance!"
"What?! I told you I can handle this myself, Keith!"
"We are supposed to work on our teamwork, remember!?" Keith shouted as his forehead met Lance's. Eyes narrowing, he growled under his breath. "Take the left!"
"Bossing me around is not teamwork, Keith!" Lance shouted back.
"Stop it you two!" Shiro slashed two of the robots coming his way. Looking over his shoulder, the black paladin sighed as Keith and Lance continued in their war of glares. "Concentrate! We need to start reading each other's minds if this situation happened again. We can be outnumbered by the Galra at any time." The last thing he wanted was to repeat what had happened when they rescued Kagome. If it were not for Kagome's sudden ability, he was sure they would have been doomed. Easily outnumbered. His grip on his weapon tightened; they were alive now because of Kagome. As the leader, he could not let that happen again. He was the protector, and he allowed an unconscious woman to rescue him.
He would protect them all.
"So Shiro told me your name is Kagome, is that correct?"
Watching the Altean princess set a cup of tea down in front of her, Kagome looked up to see her walking to the seat across from hers. "Y-Yeah…" She nodded.
"Are you feeling well?" Allura asked, noticing her eyes fully awake and with energy. "You had been resting in your room for the last five days since Shiro and the others brought you here."
Kagome scratched her cheek, embarrassed for them to know she had been falling in and out of sleep for the last five days. The moment she was up and about, it had been Coran who had come to check on her and see her on her feet. That was when Coran came back and told her the princess would wait for her in the kitchen to talk. If they were in the future, over five hundred years from the feudal era, she needed to know more.
And hopefully finding a way to take her back to her time.
"I am glad to hear that." Allura's lips curved into a smile. "We have been worried about you since you collapsed in the control room."
"Well," Kagome chuckled nervously, "anyone would be in a state of shock hearing they had woken up five hundred years into the future."
Allura laughed with her, "oh, I understand that feeling." The miko's laugh dropped, making the princess notice her eyes having fallen to the ripples of her tea. "Do you…remember anything?"
"I remember too much, and almost nothing." Kagome scoffed with a soft smile. Keeping her gaze on her drink, the miko's eyes scrunched as she tried to piece everything together. There was a lot to say, but most of it could be labeled as a lie. "Do you think it is possible to time travel, Allura-hime?"
'Hime?' Allura blinked. "Well, of course. With the right equipment and science, it can be possible. It can dangerous, though. Time travel could mess with different factors of the time you land in."
Kagome nodded, understanding her logic. Seeing as she was in 2117, then maybe humans had made it possible. The miko's eyes rose to see Allura taking a sip of her tea. She had not learned much about where she was exactly, who she was with, and if earth still even existed. A low sigh passed her lips; her fingers carefully wrapped around the tea cup. "Allura-hime…?"
"Yes?"
"Can you tell me what happened or what Shiro-san and the others found when they rescued me?"
The look in the miko's eyes told the princess she was lost, and she wanted something kind of closure. She was accepting the years that had gone by, but just like her, she was worried about the situation they could be in. Setting her cup down, Allura nodded. "As Shiro and the others explained it, they found you frozen within a human-sized crystal kept up with chains and talismans around. The Galra were keeping you, well I am not sure if protected is the word, but away from everyone's knowledge. Do you know why Zarkon was keeping you?"
"Zarkon? I don't know even know who that is."
Allura nodded, "so five hundred years ago, what was time like? Was this on earth?"
"Well, very different from what I am seeing now." Kagome smiled as she looked around the high-tech kitchen. To see machines now washing the dishes for you made her wish he time had the luxury for that. "But it was a much simpler time." If she were talking about the time of her day one of slumber, then times were different. She only hoped Inuyasha and the others lived safe lives, and none of the chaos spread. "Zarkon…who is that?"
Exhaling, Allura's lips formed a weak smile. "Well…"
"You should have taken the left."
"Keith, don't give me that right now! It's only your fault for not keeping your side secure!" Lance huffed as he pointed an accusing finger to the red paladin beside him. "You better drop that boss tone, too!"
Shaking his head as he heard the two children behind him, Shiro sighed. Practice had received a thumb down, and progress was not being made. He only hoped the next one would be better, but that would mean all of them had to be on the same page. Looking ahead, Shiro muted the argument behind him and had his eyes on the doors leading to the kitchen.
"Oh! Shiro! Lance! Keith!"
The three looked to their right to see both Pidge and Hunk walking towards them with Coran behind.
"Pidge, what's up?" Shiro asked.
"How was practice?"
The only reply was the grunts from the red and blue pilots; Shiro shrugged.
"Could have been better, huh?" Pidge chuckled.
Clicking his tongue, Coran moved his index finger side-to-side. "We have said it many times, young men. Teamwork is what will prevail in any battle. If you all continue to bicker, you won't get anywhere. For example, when you rescued Lady Kagome, all three of you made it out safe because you worked together, right?"
"Uh," Shiro looked away, "not exactly."
"Huh?" Coran blinked.
Keith's eyes narrowed, "the girl saved us. Remember that barrier that appeared when we all saw her? She did that, but all the Galra guards collapsed."
"Keith is just annoyed a girl saved his butt."
Sending Lance a glare, Keith crossed his arms. "That is not the issue here."
"Have you guys seen Kagome anywhere?" Hunk questioned, realizing none of them had the girl.
"Oh, she went to speak with the princess."
"Talk?" Shiro repeated, turning his head towards the direction of the kitchen. Five days Kagome had been in and out of sleep, and although they were able to gather a bit of information when she was awake, like confirmation she was from earth, she was twenty, and the life she knew no longer existed. Nothing else was known about her, but that was fair. His eyes narrowed with concern remembering the one question she had asked on her third day of sleep.
"Is…there peace?"
Hearing sliding doors open, both Allura and Kagome turned their heads to see the pilots and Coran coming in. A small smile graced Allura's lips as she stood from her seat. "Oh, has training ended? Did we make progress?" She put her hands in prayer.
"Not exactly." Shiro smiled sheepishly.
She observed; she sat quietly. Kagome blinked as she saw the way the group laughed, smiled, and argued. Despite their differences, they got along, and they enjoyed it. It was something she could read even without reading their glowing auras. She missed the feeling of being part of a family. She missed both her bloodline and the family that was brought together in the feudal era. Dropping her gaze down to the cup before her, she saw the reflection of her eyes.
For now she would accept the time she was in.
For now.
"Kagome?"
Looking up, Kagome's eyes slowly rose to see the worried expression in Shiro's eyes. "Yeah…?"
"How are you feeling today?" He smiled.
"Better." She nodded. "Way better. Not as sleepy anymore, he-he!"
He chuckled back, welcoming her personality. He had been afraid she was going to be consumed by the trauma. The last five days, all he could read was emptiness. Even if she was trying to accept reality, there was hesitation, but seeing her now, it seemed she was doing better.
He hoped.
"That's good to hear."
"Oh! Now you can come and watch me train!" Lance exclaimed as he slid to hold the miko's hand. "And while we are it, we can have romantic dinners together afterwards. I promise never to make you feel lonely!"
Dropping the side of his hand on the back of Lance's head, Keith scoffed. "Stop it. The last thing you want to do is scare her off."
"Seriously, Lance," Pidge placed her hands on her hips, "she is new, and probably still scared! You are going to make her run away!"
"Please~." Lance scoffed, "everyone trusts me."
Another round of laughs and opposite thoughts were released, and Kagome could not help but chuckle under her breath. It did not go unnoticed; Shiro turned his head to the miko still sitting on her seat. "Everything okay?" He asked.
"Yeah…" She nodded slowly, watching Lance's cheek being pinched by Pidge. Looking at Shiro, Kagome slowly stood up before giving him a deep bow. Shiro blinked, taken back by the deep gratitude he was receiving. The others turned, noticing the position Kagome gave. Before anyone could question her, Kagome spoke first. "I want to give my sincere gratitude…to all of you. You saved me, and although I do not know if saving me was the right thing to do, you all rescued me. Thank you so much."
Speechless, Shiro's shoulders relaxed as his eyes remained glued on the miko's bow. "No need to thank us, Kagome. Really." Watching her straighten herself, he graced her with a gentle smile. "We are glad to see you are doing better, and that you are safe."
"You are also welcome to stay here as long as you need to, Kagome." Allura spoke from behind. "I know it's tough to put the puzzle pieces together, but we can help you."
Slowly, Kagome gave her a nod, but remained speechless. Even as Lance and Hunk went on to tell her about the situation they were in against Zarkon, she could not help but steal a glance at the man beside her.
He had no idea what kind of hell he had rescued her from. The darkness she was in for what seemed like an eternity, was far worse than the danger of being imprisoned by the Galra.
Loneliness was a true enemy she wanted to avoid at all costs.
"Kagome?"
Hearing her name, the said miko looked up to Shiro's eyes.
"You can take your time telling us things, but I wanted to let you know, if you need to talk about something that is bothering you, you can confide in me." He knew the horrors of trauma, and dealing with them alone was a nightmare. "I'm here for you; you are no longer alone, Kagome." The bottled feelings inside began to show; tears clung at the edges of her eyes. One tear escaped down the curve of her cheek, taking Shiro by surprise. Had he said something wrong? "I-I…I didn't mean to-"
"Thank you." She whispered, his eyes widening at her wide and genuine smile. "Thank you…"
They were total strangers, but strangers could easily turn into friends.
That is how her life turned around when she first met Inuyasha and the others.
The reality? She had to accept this time, but she did not have to do it alone.
MizukixTsukiyomi's Notes: I hope you enjoyed it! I had a tough time trying to figure out the dialogue between Kagome and Shiro. I do hope to continue from this and dive more into Kagome becoming part of the Voltron crew, and then dealing with the Galra.
Bunny, and everyone, I hope you all had wonderful holidays, and I hope all of you are treated well by 2018! You are all in my thoughts!
Ja~ne!
