Mikami and I became what you call 'friends' after that. It's tough pretending to be friends with a person who's downfall you are plotting in secret.
But I'm managing. Honestly, not to seem sappy or anything, Mikami is a serious guy who believes in justice, and has good intentions, but at the same time, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Anyway, Mello and I are getting along better. Matt and I tried to throw him a surprise party for his birthday this year, but he found out. But we still celebrated it, in spite of Mello's threat to shoot us.
It was New Year's Eve, and I was sure this was going to be the year we'd catch Kira. I don't know when, but seriously, we had to catch that bastard and Mikami.
Matt and I watched New Year's special, where Takada was hosting. "Something about her make me want to shoot her in the face," I growled, "She seems like a complete moron. Her sophistication seems so fake," I scoffed.
"Come on Layne give that woman a break, so what she seems overly fake? Some people can't help it," said Matt, lighting his cigarette. I laughed. "So what's your New Year's resolution?" I asked Matt. "Mine should be to stop smoking... But it isn't, I guess mine is to catch Kira and get the hell out of here," he sighed.
"Mine, is to kick Light's dead body and rub it in the Task Force's face on how right I was and how wrong they were, then get the hell out of here," I said evilly. "That's very detailed," he said as Mello came into the room.
"What did I miss?" he asked, "Misa's gone missing. She and Mogi are being held in custody by Near," I said, "How do you know?" asked Mello, surprised that I knew that. "It just seems like Near-like thing to do. If it were you, you'd probably take her after her performance," I said. "That's another thing that makes you better than Near. You have emotions." I said, trying to make him feel better.
He has been moping around too much lately, and a moping Mello is a bad Mello.
"Hmph," he said, as we all watched the New Year's count down. I zoned out and thought about what everybody I knew (that is technically alive) was doing right about now.
Near and the SPK were investigating Mikami right now (and had Misa and Mogi in their custody), who was at the gym. Hal was with Takada, Light was probably gloating about how 'awesome' he is. I assumed Aizawa and Ide were with their families, I had no idea where Matsuda might be, I imagined he would be with his parents or something.
"Happy New Year," said Matt. I looked at the clock. Both hands were on the twelve. It was 2013.
This New Year of 2013, I wanted the Kira case to be finally over so I can carry out L's wishes.
