Sunlight and Ambrosia
Chapter 36 – Season 3 – How To Kill A Vampire
"… Anne…"
Anne turned her head fighting against the darkness that held her.
"Anne… wake up… Anne!"
But before she could reach the light she was pulled back by a pair of too-warm hands, ripping at her hair, throat and arms. It pulled her all the way back down until she was standing in a place she hadn't been in a very long time. It was a place that was oddly familiar but was too dark to be the place that she had once called home.
Underhill.
"Andromeda,"
Anne shivered, turning around to face her brother.
"What do you want, brother? I am busy,"
"I could see that," he smiled, walking around the edge of the woods, his hand trailing over the leaves of the bushes as he passed them.
"What? Are you watching me now?" Anne challenged, crossing her arms over her chest.
"You are my little sister," he laughed, as if it were obvious. "I must take care of my only family,"
"If you care to remember, you are the reason I am your only family. If you had it your way I would be dead as well,"
He sighed. "Now, that's isn't fair,"
"Fuck off, brother," Anne snapped, watching him as he arched his circle closer. "You lost the right to call me family when you killed ours,"
He ignored that. As he came closer to her, his black eyes moved over her, taking in her deflated light as he moved around her. "You are weak, little sister. Let me help you,"
Anne couldn't help but laugh at him bitterly. "The first time I have seen you since you betray our family, you try to kill me. Then you appear to me again to try to sway me to your cause. And now you want to help me?"
"I want to make up for what I have done,"
Anne glared. "Then kill yourself,"
"Ah, ah, ah," he sighed, clicking his tongue. "None of that,"
He moved towards her, a hand outstretched as if to touch her. Anne couldn't have that. Her brother had become a creature that she could no longer understand. If, in some twisted way, he meant her well, he'd be feeding her energy… but it would be Dark energy. And if he was only playing with her like a cat plays with a mouse, she would die. She couldn't die when Eric still needed her.
"Get away from me!" Anne yelled, jerking away from him when his cold fingers brushed against her cheek.
Her brother frowned at her, as if disappointed. "Andromeda, if you were to wake up you would be weaker than a newborn Pixie. Do you really think that your charge will save your vampire for you? The vampire that she believes has haunted her and her own vampire since they've met?"
Anne glared. "Send me back, brother,"
But he wasn't done. He smiled at her, circling her so closely that she could feel his hand ghosting over her waist. "Your ward's vampire will not let you or her go to your vampire. He wishes to end the lives of all that know of the Fairy secret,"
Anne went to contradict him but stopped herself. She knew without a doubt that Bill would do anything for Sookie… was it so far off that Bill would try to end Eric to try to keep the secret of Sookie's fairy blood a secret? But it was an insane plan. Bill would have to end Eric, Pam, Queen Sophie-Anne, Russell… and maybe even Anne herself.
But he wouldn't be so stupid…
"You know it is true," he whispered into her ear, sending a shiver down her spine. "End him before he ends you. Feed from him,"
Anne turned slowly until she met him eye to eye. "I will never,"
"Then how do you expect to save your vampire?"
"I will find something,"
Her brother laughed at her. They both knew that it was silly for her to believe that she'd be able to do anything for anyone when she awoke. She would be weak from blood loss and would only be able to watch Eric as he died. If what her brother was saying was true at all, even if Sookie was willing to help her, Bill wouldn't allow it. If anything was going to be done, Anne would at least need some of the energy that he was offering to be able to pull Eric inside.
"Take from me, sister," he offered again, bringing her attention to him again. "You know it is the only way,"
Anne hated him. She'd hated him for what he'd become, for who he'd become, what he'd down to their family, for the suspicious he turned on her, for all the pain he'd caused her. But now she hated that he was right. She needed energy to return to her body and to save Eric. No one else would do it so it would need to be her.
Anne glared at him as she grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him toward her.
Their mouths open to each other the same time a chalky black energy surged out of his mouth, entering hers. Normally, an Elf glows with her inner light when she feeds, sating her hunger. But this time was different. Anne's body radiated the darkness she was swallowing, her body coming alive with the new energy she was feeling. Vampire energy. She shook with the power of it, how it ended her hunger completely instead of only sating it.
It was a rush.
And then it ended.
Anne found herself on the ground, her butt aching from being shoved. She looked up at her brother in annoyance, who was holding his breath, breathing hard. But once he'd gotten ahold of himself, he looked down at her with the biggest smile she'd ever seen.
"Now you are like me,"
Anne was instantly on her feet, her eyes glaring into his. "I will never be like you,"
He laughed. "You are more than halfway there,"
That hurt Anne more than any insult could have and her brother new it.
"Now… go on back to your precious vampires… be careful not to eat one,"
"… Anne… you've got… come on… WAKE UP!"
Anne shot up, eyes wide. She was back in Fangtasia, the black and red décor a stark difference to the beauty of Underhill. She looked around and found Sookie and Pam standing beside her while Bill was brooding in the corner.
"You've got to save him!" Pam shrieked in her ear, red tears falling down her face. "Eric's still outside. He's burning!"
Anne looked towards the monitor behind the bar to find two figures laying on the asphalt in the sun, bond together by a pair of silver handcuffs. The smaller of the two was charred beyond recognition though Anne knew that it was Russell Edgington. The other was Eric, who seemed resigned to his fate as his skin bubbled and burned.
Anne was instantly off the table and running towards the door.
"Anne! Wait!"
But she didn't stop until she was out in the sun, the two burning vampires lying at her feet. Anne fell to her knees above their heads, the dizziness of blood loss making it hard to focus.
"Eric,"
He was beyond answering her, delusional as he was. So Anne was on her own, looking between the two vampires and the silver handcuffs that kept them together. There was no way she would drag Russell in with Eric, even if she had the energy to do so. She had to think of something quick before the energy her brother had bought her faded to nothing.
"Sweetie, use you gifts,"
Anne looked over at Russell and glared.
"I cannot," she told him. "Not for this,"
"Of course you can. Your little half breed did it,"
Anne rolled her eyes, poking her hand into Eric's pockets even though she knew it was pointless… he wouldn't keep the keys with him.
"I will not surrender to the true death," Russell bit at her as she tried to think of something to do, ignoring her growing dizziness. "I will find a way to come back and kill your precious Viking, his unbearable progeny, the half breed, her brooding Mr. Compton and anyone you ever cared about. And all because you didn't use your fucking Fairy powers!"
A rage Anne hadn't felt before rose up in her as she turned to look down at him. But her typical blue eyes didn't meet Russell's, instead her eyes grew black as she smiled darkly at him. Russell gave her a shocked look, one that held a hint of fear that excited Anne in a way it shouldn't have.
"That is the thing, Edgington,"she grinned. "I am no Fairy,"
With the grace of a cat, she crawled over him, straddling his chest and grabbing his chin harshly to make him look up at her.
"I am an Elf,"
She leaned down and opened her mouth, drawing his energy from him. The look of fear and shock was the only thing that Russell showed as he died, his body slowly becoming dangerously emaciated until he was literally nothing by skin and bones. He gasped and gagged, trying to fight against the Elf unsuccessfully.
And then it was over.
Russell melted into a pile of ash beneath Anne, leaving nothing but her dark eyes to show for what she'd done.
