CHAPTER 36
Kate opened her eyes. She felt weak and dizzy. Forcing herself to ignore the pain, she pulled herself up off the ground and took a moment to take in her surroundings.
Nicky had heard the incident and was now rushing to their aid, with Kylee, Zoe and Heather following close behind her.
Running as fast as she could to reach her friend, she knew she hadn't much time. Using her unmatched hearing, she jumped over potholes, dodged fallen limbs, dodged trees, jumped over rocks, and avoiding every obstacle in her path to get to them.
Kate looked around. She felt something warm and sticky on her paws. Lifting up her paws to examine the substance, she found it was blood. She looked down and saw the blood running down from the top of a hill like a river or a stream. She followed the blood trail to the top of the hill.
Nicky could both here and smell Kate now. They were getting closer, giving herself a boost of speed, Nicky was determined to aid her friend. But Zoe began to falter, as did Heather. Kylee herself was struggling to keep up.
Zoe and Heather stopped dead in their tracks, gasping for breath that had been stolen from them.
Kylee's cardio beat everyone else's by a long shot, only, she wasn't as fast as Nicky.
Finally, after about five long minutes of running, they finally reached them.
Nicky was shocked to find Kate in the condition she was in. deep, gaping wounds running down the side of her body, a large wound on her head which was bleeding, and most of all, a confused look on her face.
"Kate, are you okay?" Kylee asked.
Kate tilted her head in confusion.
"Who's Kate?"
