Okay so I have a good reason why I haven't updated. No. 1 my computer is ancient and is slowly dying. No.2 I'm leaving to study abroad on Sunday and I am freaking out and have been freaking out for the last month. So I honestly don't know when I'll update with all this going on but if you could leave a review at the end you may possibly cheer me up in the process.
Bryce had carefully explained that they couldn't tell anyone that he was alive. And Amy very specifically told him that she was telling Jake and he better get over it.
She eventually called him Sunday morning and told him to come over.
"Hey Amy." Jake said brightly as he walked through her door even though it was eight on a Sunday and she most certainly woke him up with her call.
"Hey Jake." She said and ushered him to the couch where he tried to pull her into his arms.
"Wait, I need to tell you something."
He pulled her to him anyway. "What?"
She went for blunt honesty. "Bryce is alive."
"What? How? What?"
"He's working undercover so he staged his death."
"How do you know this? Did he get in touch with you?"
Amy wriggled out of his lap and sat beside him. "Yes."
"When?"
"Last night."
"How?"
"He showed up."
"Here."
"Yes." Amy answered timidly. She knew Jake always felt a bit jealous of her relationship with Bryce.
"Oh. I thought you said your brothers were over."
"They were."
"So you told your brothers before me?"
"No – Chris came over at the same time as Bryce."
"And Tomas?"
"Well we needed him for the plan."
"There's a plan?"
"To uncover a ring of corrupt cops who worked with Lawall's gang."
"We took down that gang."
"Yeah but we never got leads on the bad cops. That's what Bryce was working on."
"So why does he need your help?"
"Our help." Amy corrected. "He narrowed down the precincts. One of them is the 99."
"No way." Jake scoffed. "There is no way anyone in our unit is corrupt."
"Jake I've seen the evidence Bryce has collected so far. I think we need to accept the fact."
"And how do your brothers fit into this?"
"Tomas' precinct also got flagged and Chris is being transferred to the third precinct. Between the three of us we should hopefully be able to take these guys down."
"Okay – have you briefed Holt?"
"No. Bryce wants to keep this as small as possible. He can't risk any of the bad cops finding out."
"You seriously think Holt – Raymond Holt – would possibly work for a criminal organisation?"
"No – but I do think we need to keep this between the four of us. For now anyway. It gets more complicated with the more people we get onboard."
"Fine – so what are we going to do exactly?"
"We're gonna start digging. Any member of staff that works at the 99 – regular staff, administration, part time, weekend crew, cleaners, anyone who would have the opportunity to access sensitive information."
Jake let out a deep sigh and thought back to the last time Bryce had been here. It was odd that the gang knew they were monitoring them. Maybe it was possible that they had a leak in their precinct.
Amy looked up at him sympathetically. "Look, think of it this way. If we investigate we have a chance to clear our friend's names." Jake nodded but his expression mustn't have fooled Amy well enough.
Leaning into his side she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed a kiss to his lips. "It'll be okay Jake – we'll figure it out together."
