Connie was shaking him.

"Armin? Armin! Wake up! Are you with me?"

"Wha-what's going on?" said Armin before he remembered what had happened. Eren was dead. He felt tears dripping down his cheeks. No… Eren couldn't be dead. Eren was the strong one. The one who had protected him from bullies all through his childhood and at the orphanage. Eren couldn't be gone. Armin should be dead instead. He felt sick.

"One of the aurors just came over and said we have to advance," said Ymir.

"We need to make sure Armin's OK first," said Connie. "Armin, what's wrong?"

Armin could only draw a shaky breath.

"I'm sure everything will be fine. We just need to stick together," said Krista, trying to comfort the others just as much as Armin.

"That's my girl, keeping everything together! After all this we should get married!" Ymir put her arm around Krista's shoulders.

Armin had to get away. He couldn't stand them being so happy and being together when his best friend was dead. Who could know how Mikasa was doing? He stepped to the edge of the roof and took off on his broom.

What could he do without Eren? They had planned to travel the world together. He could go with Mikasa, if she was alive, but that just wouldn't be the same. He landed on the ground in an alley slumped against a building. He couldn't go on. He should have been the one to die.

Across the alley, someone was kneeling on the ground. Armin got up and walked over to investigate. It was Hannah. Franz lay on the ground in front of her; she was pushing on his chest in a way that Armin recognized as CPR. She blew air into his mouth twice and went back to pumping on his chest.

"Don't worry Sweetie! You'll be fine! We can make it through this!"

"Hannah… You need to get on a building… It's not safe here," said Armin.

"But Franz needs me! He stopped breathing and I can't wake him up!"

"Hannah… Franz is dead… Just like… Just like Eren."
