Authors Note: Thanks for all your patience folks. I have been really ill lately and had multiple surgeries. I had this update ready to go days ago, but recently I just suffered a massive loss in my life... someone I cared about a lot who made a real difference to me, and I just haven't felt like posting or doing anything, but that isn't fair to all of you, I had the chapter written so I knew I needed to post it and then get to work on getting the next chapter in standby... i am sure this story will wrap soon or maybe not...

Chapter 35

Jess opened her eyes with a groan, unsure of what had happened after she had attempted to make her connections inside the warehouse. Her head was killing her and she could hear the beeps all around her, the beeps that told her she was hooked up to machines in the hospital, which was all new to her. Jess wanted to believe that everything had turned out in their favor, and she really did hope it did, but she just couldn't remember anything about what had happened in that place after Nicole had arrived and allowed Jess to make an attempt to save the other women, to make them see that they could make the right choices and their own choices in life. Jess had started thinking about new ideas of what could happen and what the FBI could benefit from them. She had thought about a new FBI unit, one that Nicole could be a part of where they had mostly psychic people trying to use their abilities to make connections to victims or suspects or even witnesses and try and solve crimes based on what they could find out.

Jess looked over and saw that Colin was sitting in the chair in an uncomfortable position. She wasn't sure if he was supposed to be there or in his own room, but it was clear that he had made it clear he wasn't leaving her side, and Jess had to smile at that. Colin was the love of her life and the only man she could see herself with. Colin had been making her so happy and he was the one who tried to help her cope with some of the things she had to see with her 'gift' as he called it but there were times where she referred to it as her 'curse'. Jess could see that he was still hurting over his injuries and all, but he was not taking care of himself, not with her in that bed. She could tell he had to be exhausted, so she didn't bother to attempt to wake him up, and when she heard the door open, she looked towards the door to her room and saw Nicole walking in with some balloons and flowers in one hand and what looked to be some type of throw blanket in the other one, that made Jessica smile.

"Hey partner." Nicole said softly after a quick glance at Colin.

"Hey, what happened after you got there?" Jessica asked after she thanked her partner for everything and then waited for her to answer her questions.

"A lot of things happened, but the worst of it is that there was a massive ambush, we lost several agents." Nicole told her softly.

"The others?" Jessica asked, knowing that Nicole would know who she was talking about.

"They tried to help, they are all being debriefed and will be here soon enough. They are going to be in protective custody but they wanted to be close to you, in case you needed your mind protected." Nicole said softly, letting her know that the women appeared to be wanting to the good things that Jessica was telling them that they could do.

"Maybe we could get them jobs within the FBI, work on that unit I was telling you about." Jessica said and then she winced in pain as she realized she needed some medication, but the problem was that narcotics affected people with psychic abilities differently than they did an average person.

"You're awake!" Colin said as he moved too quickly for his own injuries and he groaned.

"You should be in your own bed or at least lying next to me. This looks like a bigger bed than usual." Jessica said as she looked at the bed she was lying in.

"It is, it's one of those husband and wife beds they usually have in the maternity ward, they figured since you were both wounded and would need to be here and would want to be together, they might as well move it down here." Nicole said as she nodded towards the bed and then at the two of them.

"So why aren't you lying in it?" Jessica asked Colin.

"I have been, I just liked to give you space during the day so that I don't accidentally hit something that would hurt you worse." Colin said softly, pointing at his pillow on the empty side of the bed. Colin then moved and climbed back in next to her and took her gently back into his arms. He kissed her temple and then held her as tightly as he could without hurting her. "It looks like you might have saved those women, they might actually help the cops get ahead of the bad guys from now on."

Jessica knew she should be happy, but something inside of her told her that something was off with this whole thing. Jess wasn't sure what was bothering her, but something was. She looked closely at her friend and then at Colin and then she knew what it was. Whoever was doing this, putting the image and scenario in her mind was doing a good job but they had made a mistake, a small one but it was one that Jessica caught as she looked between the image of her friend and partner and the image of the man she loved. Jessica concentrated and soon everything disappeared and her eyes popped open as she gasped around her.

He slammed his fist into the wall as he watched her wake up. He had hoped that by letting her think she had escaped them, that she had gotten away and wasn't his prisoner any longer and that she had done some good things and saved the other women, just like he knew she would want to do, that he would finally be able to do what he needed to do when it came to her and her abilities. He had been wanting to enhance her, to really get inside her mind and see what she could do and then take over and get her to see that his way was the best way. He was going to break her down and he was going to do what he needed to do, he was going to make sure that his plan came into action. The amount of money that he was being offered to make an army, a deadly force of assassins with specialized abilities made it so that they would be unstoppable and he would be rich. He was developing a way to make sure whoever he sold everything to, would have complete control of those he was given, and he needed to make sure he managed to overrule free will inside the psychics.

"Sir, it's the fifth time she has managed to spot the glamor." One of his type researchers informed him with a sigh.

"There has to be a way to get her to be on our side. Go through everything she managed to say and make sure you talk to the other women and see if they will let anything slip to you. I know that they are all closing ranks and wanting to protect each other, but there is going to be something we can use to get them on our side, to get what we want out of them." He stated simply. "Double the doses on all the drugs we are giving them, I don't care who gets hurt or who it might kill, I want them to know, I am in control of them, and I am the one who decides who lives and who dies." He added as his grin turned to an evil smirk, he was going to make sure that he took over everything he needed to, because he was ready to be rich and he was ready to make sure that anyone who crossed him, no matter who they were, were going to learn a very hard lesson.

Jessica was aware of what was going to happen if this guy succeeded with all his plans. She got flashes over and over of a future where there was lots of pain and blood, and she could see a future full of chaos and mass casualties. Jessica was aware that this was one of the worst criminals she had come across, because his greed and his lack of a conscience could cause lots of death and destruction, and that meant she needed to find a way out of this and she needed to find a way to contact her team, she needed them to find her and she needed them to find a way to take this guy down. She needed to think like a cop, she needed to find the evidence she would need to end this guy and she needed to find a way to prevent anything he had already built with those drugs from being released or sold to anyone. She knew if that drug were to be sold, even now in its testing phase, it could cause massive damage as it was. She was currently in a hurry up and take him down, and she just might have to do it in a way that ended any chance of a happy future for her. Jessica bowed her head as she felt the pain of the knowledge, that to save so many lives, she might have to sacrifice her own.
