Remus Lupin's Sorting
Ahhh, I've heard all about you, Mr. Lupin.
Do you know that I'm a werewolf? Because Dumbledore said -
Mmhmm. I know what Dumbledore said.
And – and you're not going to tell?
Now why would I pass up the opportunity to Sort one of the bravest boys I've ever met? I may be old but I'm not senile.
I'm not brave.
Of course you're brave. Going through horrible once-a-month transformations is not easy. And you're only eleven! If that's not brave then I'm not the Sorting Hat.
Thank you… but I still don't believe you.
Are you always this cynical?
Not always. I take a break around Christmas.
Har-har. What house would you like to be in?
It doesn't matter, really. I'm becoming partial to Slytherin, though… I hear that's where all the dark wizards go? I'm a werewolf so I s'pose it's the place for me.
Tsk, tsk, Mr. Lupin. That's no way to think. A vampire attended Hogwarts once, you know.
A vampire?
Uh-huh. The Loyalist 'Puff I ever Sorted, she was.
She was in Hufflepuff? But I thought you said she was a vampire?
Now, just because they drink blood does not mean they do not have any qualities, young man! I can see one of your qualities is cleverness. But you are also chivalrous, strong and courageous. And since these qualities overpower your Ravenclaw ones I see no other place to put you but in the lion's den. Now, as much as I like to continue our chat, we're holding up a line. Goodbye!
"Welcome to Gryffindor!"
Remus smiled at the girl whose name he remembered to be Lily Evans. She was the girl that shared the boat with him and Peter. "I thought you said you were going to be in Slytherin?"
Lily's face fell, and her eyes searched through the small crowd of first years waiting to be Sorted for her gloomy-looking friend. Remus mentally face palmed. Way to go, Lupin. Five words in and you're already making girls upset.
"I thought so, too." She turned away dejectedly from the crowd but fixed Remus with her familiar pleasant smile. "But it's alright. I mean, Sev and I can still be best friends. Who cares if we're in different houses?"
"I like that. More people should have the same mindset." They paused their conversation to cheer as a girl was Sorted to Gryffindor. They noticed each Sorting was starting to get shorter as the time went.
"How come the Hat took long with you?" asked Lily.
Remus shrugged languidly. It's because I'm the first werewolf the Sorting Hat has ever met, he wanted to say, but restrained himself. It would probably start a riot, complete with pitchforks and flaming sticks. He thought Lily was alright, of course, but he had just met her. She could've been an aspiring gossip columnist for all he knew. "…Did you know that a vampire was here once?"
Lily's eyes lit up as Remus, glad to divert her attention, began to tell the tale the Hat had told him. As he recounted about the vampire's Sorting to Hufflepuff, Remus was happy to see Lily didn't seem disgusted that a dark creature was allowed to attend Hogwarts.
Perhaps Remus would never be able to get rid of the prejudice from the Wizarding World, but that didn't mean he couldn't get some peoples' views to change.
People who wanted to change.
Because, in all honesty, Remus was starting to get tired of running away from angry, pitchfork-bearing mobs.
Didn't they know that running with sharp objects was dangerous?
A/N: Thanks to all who reviewed last chapter!
What house are you guys in? I'm, unsurprisingly (mwhaha), in Slytherin. Yeeppp. If you see any news about a new dark witch gaining power - that's just me. It's cool.
