Chapter 35: Starz in the Eyes
"I still don't get why they want to come," Michael said.
Emily sighed.
"We'll find out as soon as their here," she said. "Until then, we need to get them a room."
"Only one?" Eddy asked.
"That's right," Judy said. "Max said that they all wanted one large room."
"How are we going to get four teams into one bedroom?" Steve asked.
"We'll just have to improvise."
…..
Judy sighed. They managed to find a room that no one used and were busy getting extra beds into the room. Michael, Eddy, Steve and a few other boys on the program were doing this.
"Um, Judy?"
Judy turned to face the one that spoke. She was about fourteen years of age. She was pale and had short black hair and silver eyes. She wore a white shirt with angel wings printed on the front and had a pair of black shorts with black ankle-boots. Judy knew that she was shy and timid, but that she was a powerful beyblader.
"Is something wrong, Kendra?" Judy asked.
"W-well. You see, Dea's been acting strange lately."
Judy frowned thoughtfully. Dea was Kendra's Bitbeast.
"What do you mean she's acting strange?" Judy asked.
Unlike the other All Starz, Kendra was very in tune with her Bitbeast. When Judy realised that, she began taking everything Kendra said when it came to her Bitbeast seriously. After all, the girl hasn't been wrong yet.
"I don't know how to describe it," Kendra said. "It's like she's having… moodswings. And I keep feeling something between anticipation, annoyance and apprehension."
"That's a lot of a's," Michael said, coming up behind her.
Kendra yelped and hopped away, looking at Michael with wide eyes.
"Sorry," Michael chuckled. "But it's always fun to see how jumpy you can get."
"Michael," Judy scolded.
"Sorry Coach. By the way, Kendra. You're in tune with Bitbeasts, right?"
"I'm i-in t-tune w-with Dea," Kendra stuttered. "B-but I'm s-sensitive to others."
"'Kay, so you'd probably have an idea as to why Trigle keeps vibrating."
Judy looked over to Kendra and saw that the girl had a frown on her face.
"That's strange," she whispered. "That shouldn't be happening."
It was Judy's turn to frown as Kendra turned to face her.
"Judy, do you mind if I take over one of the training rooms?"
Judy nodded her head, knowing that the girl would try to connect with her Bitbeast to try to find answers.
"Go ahead," Judy said. "And good luck."
…..
It was easy for her to find a room. It was thankfully empty, just as she preferred it.
She wasn't very comfortable around people. When she was little, she was always left out of the games the other children were playing. As she grew older, she was always shunned, making her used to the solitude and uncomfortable with other people around.
Before her mother passed away, she had given her Bitbeast to her. She was only seven at the time. The Bitbeast was her only friend growing up. Because of that, she was able to pick up on certain things regarding the Bitbeast.
Kendra withdrew her beyblade, a beautiful silver beyblade. She attached it to her launcher, which resembled a bow and pulled back the bowstring, as though she was about to shoot an arrow. Since the private school she attended had archery, she opted to do that as her required sport.
Breathing deeply, Kendra launched her beyblade, watching it settle in the very centre of the dish. Soon enough, her Bitbeast, Dea, made her appearance.
She had an angelic appearance with her long hair and large wings. She was surrounded in a silver aura.
Kendra sat cross-legged at the very edge of the dish and closed her eyes. Meditation proved to be the best way she could communicate with the angel in front of her.
'What's wrong?' she asked in her mind.
There was silence for a while, as she was enveloped by the warmth of her Bitbeast.
'Something is stirring. And it's on its way here.'
She frowned.
'What do you mean?'
'I sense something menacing coming. I don't know what it is, but it's making me feel restless. Also, I sense that an old friend has finally returned to her normal self.'
'Old… friend?'
'I have the feeling that you would be meeting her soon. She can be quite a trickster, but she knows when to be serious. If she becomes attached to you, then she regards you as her kit, and she will protect you no matter what.'
'How would I know her?'
'You will be able to tell just by looking at her. She's strong.' Dea suddenly stiffened. 'There is something in this building that does not belong here.'
Her eyes snapped open. She could feel it now. A presence that seemed menacing, but none of it was directed to anyone in this building.
"Surveying the area," she whispered.
She called back her blade and cautiously made her way towards where this feeling was coming from.
…..
Emily was calmly making her way through the hallways when she felt the temperature drop. She was on her way to see Kendra, knowing that the girl had psychic abilities when it came to Bitbeasts and wanted to ask her why Trigator was acting strange.
At first she thought the change in temperature was just her imagination, but when her breaths became visible to her, she knew that this was not the case. She walked cautiously, her senses sharpening.
She felt a vibration in her pocket, and knew that it was Trigator once again. She started to feel apprehensive, and knew that there was something with her.
And just as suddenly as it came, it left, and she breathed freely. She closed her eyes, listening to her heartbeat that somehow accelerated.
She opened her eyes to see the very person she was looking for approaching. Kendra. When the girl saw her, she lowered her head, her usual unease taking over.
"Uh, Kendra," Emily said, noticing that her voice came out somewhat shaky. Kendra noticed it too and looked up, but not making eye contact. She never does. "I was looking for you."
"R-really?" Kendra stuttered.
"Yeah. I wanted to know what's up with Trigator."
The girl's eyes shifted, fixed on Emily's mouth now.
"I talked to Dea, and she said that something's coming. Something bad."
Emily nodded her head, and asked another question.
"Kendra, you're really sensitive to certain things, right?" The girl nodded. "Well, do you sense anything now, or did you sense something?"
The girl frowned, and her eyes shifted higher, but still not eye level.
"I did feel something, but…" the girl stopped, her eyes fixed on something behind Emily.
Emily turned around, but saw nothing. She turned back to Kendra, who was trembling slightly. She saw something. Something that Emily could not see.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked.
Kendra's eyes wandered to Emily, making eye contact for the first time.
"Let's go," she whispered, turning around.
Emily frowned, but followed.
…..
Phantom Driger watched as the two girls left. He didn't like being too far away from his pet, but with Kitsune around, he couldn't really do anything.
He decided to scout ahead, knowing that the children were on their way there. What he hadn't anticipated was running into a psychic.
'The girl might be a problem. Especially with that Bitbeast. But I need to see what exactly her senses involve. After that, I'll see just how far away from my pet I need to keep her. But, Lucia will be thrilled to hear this. After all, how often do you see a true psychic, especially one with an old enemy as an ally?'
…..
The next morning, the four teams were in a jet arranged by Robert. They didn't feel comfortable being in a small space with little escape, but Kitsune kept reminding them that she wouldn't let anything happen to them while they were flying.
"I still hate technology," Kitsune said. "People lose faith in the true magic. I mean, when was the last time you truly feared the dark?"
Many of the group gave her odd looks, and she rolled her eyes.
"Fine. First of all, I was speaking rhetorically. Second, I was speaking in a general sense. And third, if you want to answer, then think back to before all this began."
"The Dark Bladers," the Bladebreakers said in unison.
"Speaking of which," Robert said, "shouldn't we let them know that Oliver is safe?"
"Oh, they know," Kitsune said, narrowing her eyes.
Okay, so Kendra's habit of avoiding eye contact is the same thing I do. I didn't exactly have a lot of friends while growing up, and none of them close. So my social skills are somewhat lacking. I can't really make eye contact with anyone, preferring to look at the mouth when people are speaking to me. And sometimes I look away completely. My friends know that just because I'm not looking doesn't mean I'm not listening. That's more or less what Kendra does.
