Have some Corney today!
Today it was just Corey and Laney in the garage. They sat on the stage strumming their instruments, Corey had a sheet of paper and a pencil next to him and seemed to be in deep thought. "What about a song about chicken wings?" he asked the red head across from him. She rolled her eyes at him, he saw this and knew she thought it wasn't any good.
The blue haired guitarist sighed and fell back on his back "Man, why is it so hard to write lyrics?" he asked out loud. Laney heard what he said and gave him a sympathetic look "Don't worry, you'll get it one day." she reassured him. Corey gave a sigh and said "Well when I have the diary its super easy. But without it...it just feels like something's missing." he sat back up and stared out at nothing, he couldn't figure out what he was missing.
Laney walked over and sat beside him, she put her hand on his shoulder and met his gaze "You just need some inspiration." she suggested. "Well, where do I get some?" he followed up "Everyone gets their inspiration differently. Some use their feelings or people they know. Others use experiences they went through. Just think about what you feel strongly about." Laney explained.
Corey took her words in and took a breathe, he searched his mind for things he felt strongly about. He loved music, but he couldn't write a song about music, could he? Would that be too redundant? What else? Well his friends meant a lot to him, but how exactly could he make that into a song. Laney could tell that he was having trouble and gently touched his hand, he snapped from his thoughts at her touch "Just feel it, let it come to you." she advised him. A lightbulb went off in Corey's head 'That's it!' he realized.
He grabbed his guitar and began to strum some notes, it was a soft melody that came out of the instrument. Laney smiled and listened to the song "When I was down and out for the count," her eyes widened as she heard words "But you were always by my side to bring me round." Corey was singing lyrics! His voice was calm and soothing as it matched the rhythm of his guitar "I felt lost and couldn't find my way, then I found your smile shining bright as the day." Laney grabbed her bass and matched his melody. Their sounds melded together and sounded beautiful.
"I don't know where I would be without you by my side. Bringing me back to earth and telling me everything's alright." Corey sang out with a stronger voice, but somehow it still sounded sweet. Laney leaned against his back and just let herself melt into his song. The song began to enter a chorus verse "Your the flame burning through the black, your the friend who always will have my back, your the song that keeps me playing along. You lift me up when I'm feeling blue, I can truly be myself when I'm with you, your the song that keeps me playing all night long."
His song picked up speed a bit and Laney sang along with him as their song became stronger "Your the yin that completes my yang, if I fell from a cliff then you'd never let me hang, your the song that I keep hearing in my head. when your trapped in a horrible nightmare, I will fight any evil just to make it there, your the song that wont stop playing in my head." the song slowed down again and they sang the last line "Your the song lives within my heart." and Corey gave one last strum on his guitar before silence returned to the room.
Laney smiled happily at him "Core! You did it! You wrote a song!" she cheered and wrapped her arms around his neck "You were right Lanes, I did just need some inspiration." he told her. "So what was your inspiration?" Laney asked, Corey gave her a heart melting smile and simply said "You." Laney let it sink in and her face erupted into a giant smile and her eyes shined with love, that song was about her. She pulled him in for a quick kiss then hugged him tighter "That was so incredibly sweet!" she squealed with utter joy. Corey rested his head on top of hers "Wanna play it at our next gig?" he asked and she nodded "Sure, just write it down so we can rehearse it."
Corey's eyes widened in shock "uh...did you happen to memorize like every word?" he asked hesitantly. Laney stared at him in disbelief "You don't remember the words!?" she yelled at him. He gave her a nervous smile and chuckle "I was in the moment." Laney face palmed, her boyfriend finally wrote a song, about her even!, and he didn't remember the words after it. "Note to self, get tape recorder and always keep it on." Laney made a note to herself.
there we go.
