Hey everyone it occurred to me that I wrote "See you all in two weeks" on the last chapter despite this being posted a week later, sorry if that confused anyone.
Anyway here's chapter 36, enjoy!
Death of Snipers: Not sure what you mean by Hades, I assume that you're referring to Umiko's choker with the H but it doesn't stand for Hades it stands for (Insert spoiler here). I agree with you that she didn't utilize her element correctly but there is a reason for that, Umiko hasn't really mastered her element and how to use it in combat. I tried to convey that with the somewhat reckless way she fought, she is very confident in her own ability and doesn't think Zancrow could possibly match her. Umiko is a very straightforward person, she doesn't like hiding in the shadows and waiting for the perfect moment to strike which is why she doesn't like planning strategies and using stealth.

"I would never tell a spineless magic mimicking freak like you anything about my master!" Umiko yelled as she stood up to glare at Zancrow. Said God slayer just groaned in annoyance before he took a step forward shortening the distance between himself and Umiko.
"Look ya little brat, all I want to know is why this master is out to kill me." Zancrow said but Umiko just growled at him and began to mutter a spell under her breath. She was about to unleash the attack until she felt something clamp around her neck, she looked down to see a black and red collar around her neck.
"Don't bother trying to use your magic." Kagu-Tsuchi said appearing beside the two God slayers. "That collar nullifies magic and can only be opened by this key." The fire God said holding up a key with a skull at the handle before dropping it into Zancrow's hand.
"You damn flippant God! Take this thing off of me this instant!" Umiko yelled glaring at the fire God as Zancrow snickered. "What are you laughing at?!" Umiko yelled turning her glare to Zancrow.
"I'm just glad I'm not the only one who thinks Kagu-Tsuchi is a flippant asshole." Zancrow said laughing to himself until he felt a fist slam onto the top of his head.
"Oi,what was that for?!" Zancrow yelled rubbing his head.
"For being a dumbass."
"It's not my fault you're a good for nothing God!" Zancrow retorted as he and the fire God glared at each other.
"You're supposed to be interrogating her not talking trash about someone who could make you a stain on the grass with the flick of a finger."
"As if, you couldn't kill me even if you went all out. I'm the strongest God slayer there is, no one can beat me." Zancrow said smirking as Kagu-Tsuchi rolled his eyes but before he could make a retort Umiko spoke up.
"Strongest God slayer? In your dreams maybe but my master is twice the God slayer you'll ever be." Umiko boasted subconsciously as she imagined her master coming to her aid and slaughtering Zancrow where he stood.
"So your masters a God slayer huh?" Zancrow asked smirking as he noticed the realization dawn on Umiko that she just gave away information about her beloved master.
"You sure are easy to interrogate, I figured I was gonna have to start making scars before you talked." Zancrow said making Umiko scream in protest.
"Don't belittle me you freak! I'm not some child you can talk down to!" Umiko yelled making Zancrow laugh, he walked over to where Shizuka had been sitting quietly and held a hand out to help her stand. He walked with her over to Umiko and then smirked down at the water God slayer.
"You sure you aren't a child, cause I know a twelve year old with bigger tits than you." Zancrow quipped laughing as Umiko's face turned bright red.
"My chest size has nothing to do with my age you pervert!" Umiko yelled but Zancrow just continued to smirk as he stepped behind Shizuka and reached around to squeeze her breasts much to her surprise.
"Not true, I know Shizuka is a sexy mature adult from how big and squeezable her breasts are." Zancrow replied groping the neko yokai in front of Umiko.
"Z-Zancrow~" Shizuka moaned out trying, although not very hard, to break free from his embrace "t-this isn't the t-time." Shizuka gasped as Zancrow leaned into her ear.
"Come on sensei don't you want find whoever it is that wants to kill me? This is all for the sake of interrogating that flat chested God slayer over there." Zancrow whispered into Shizuka's ear but before he could continue with his ministrations he felt a bony fist hit him on the top of the head again.
"Stop messing around." Kagu-Tsuchi said as Zancrow frowned.
"You're no fun." Zancrow muttered letting Shizuka go, she collapsed to her knees with a huge blush on her cheeks holding her arms over her chest somewhat disappointed the ministrations had stopped. Zancrow stepped toward Umiko and noticed that she stepped back holding her arms over her chest.
"I'm not going to grope you…"
"You're even worse than your flippant God, you fucking pervert!" Umiko yelled charging at Zancrow with her fist pulled back, she threw a punch but Zancrow blocked it. Umiko growled and tried to throw another punch but Zancrow caught her fist.
"Fighting without your magic against someone who kicked your ass when you had your magic is not a very good idea." Zancrow said as Umiko tried to land a kick to his gut but he avoided it and landed his own kick for Umiko's back. "But by all means keep trying, it's pretty amusing." Zancrow mocked as she fell to the floor, she was about to get up and attack again until she saw Zancrow sit beside her with a flaming hand leaning close to her.
"Look shrimp, all I wanna know is why your master is trying to kill me." Zancrow said as Umiko stared into the flames just inches away.
Zancrow waited for a few minutes getting no reply from the water God slayer. "You are so annoying." Zancrow groaned as he collapsed onto his back with his hands behind his head. Umiko looked at him in confusion, he was lying a few inches away from her on his back eyes closed and completely defenseless.
"What are you doing?" Umiko asked suspicious of Zancrow's actions.
"Relaxing, since you won't talk I got no choice but to wait you out." Zancrow replied already starting to fall asleep.
"Relaxing? What happened to interrogating me…?" Umiko said as she sat up and squinted her eyes at the blonde.
"I'm not going to waste my energy making you talk, if this master of yours wants to kill me then he'll have to show up here at one point to get you. That's when I'll get my answers." Zancrow replied making Umiko stare at him in disbelief.
"That is the stupidest strategy I have ever heard, not only are you allowing your enemy to have the element of surprise but you're leaving your hostage unattended." Umiko said as Zancrow sighed in an annoyed fashion. "What's to stop me from attacking you while you're resting?"
"The fact that without your magic your just a scrawny little girl." Zancrow replied making a tick mark form on Umiko's head.
"What did you say?!" Umiko yelled glaring at the God slayer, she was about to pounce on him and try and strangle him until she realized just how hopeless her endeavor would be while she still had the magic nullifying collar. She settled for standing up and glaring down at him.
"Zancrow isn't it kind of dangerous to just wait for her master to find you?" Shizuka asked as she scooted over to Zancrow and sat beside him.
"Have a little faith Shizuka, I'll take out her master no problem." Zancrow answered with a smirk opening his eyes to look at Shizuka. "Besides, anyone who has to send some little girl to try and kill their target isn't a threat to me." Zancrow said cockily making Shizuka smile in relief.
"You're the one that isn't a threat…" Umiko said as she stood up "my master sent me to kill you because he doesn't consider you anything more than garbage." Umiko continued making Zancrow jolt up suddenly.
"Oi! Who are you calling lower than garbage?!" Zancrow yelled trying to attack Umiko but Shizuka held him back as he flailed his arms around. "I'm stronger than that weakling God slayer that has to hide behind others!" Zancrow yelled angrily which made Umiko laugh.
"My master is the God slayer that shall slay your flippant God, a fraud like you could never match his strength." Umiko laughed as Zancrow's expression turned serious.
"Slay the flippant God?" Zancrow asked as Umiko went slightly stiff from Zancrow's tone. Shizuka noticed the change in his tone as well and slowly let him go, he took a few steps toward Umiko to which she involuntarily took a few steps back in response.
"No one's gonna slay the flippant God but me." Zancrow said looking at Umiko in the eyes with a serious and yet non threatening stare before it turned into a cocky grin. "I'll take out anyone who even tries." Zancrow said much to Umiko's surprise.
"So you plan to become the new fire God?"
"The new fire God?" Zancrow questioned in confusion, Umiko stared at Zancrow for a few seconds before she burst out laughing.
"You don't know?! Hahahahahahahahahaha!" Umiko laughed clutching her stomach making tick marks form on Zancrow's head.
"What don't I know?"
"The reason that God slayer magic was created of course." Umiko replied receiving a confused look from Zancrow and Shizuka while Kagu-Tsuchi stared at her in shock.
"How do you know how God slayer magic was created?" Kagu-Tsuchi asked floating closer to the water God slayer.
Umiko looked up at him with a frown "my master told me, he is the one that will slay you and become the new fire God." she said confidently. "Although the fact that you don't know about the origin of your own magic is pretty sad." Umiko commented smirking at Zancrow who frowned in return. "But I guess it's not all that surprising, your flippant God would have no reason to tell you since you would never be strong enough to slay him anyway." Zancrow clenched his fist tighter and tighter as Umiko spoke, he hated when people kept secrets from him and Kagu-Tsuchi was no exception.
"I think you're going to make him cry Umiko." A voice broke through the silence as the owner of said voice stepped into the clearing.
"Master!" Umiko cheered in excitement as she rushed to his side. Umiko's master stopped approaching a few feet away from the group, he stood about half a foot taller than Zancrow with short orange hair. He looked to be in his mid twenties.
"Honou…" Kagu-Tsuchi muttered in a shaky voice that Zancrow had never heard the fire God use.
"It's been a long time father, how have you been?" Honou asked Kagu-Tsuchi much to Zancrow and Shizuka's shock.
"Father!" Zancrow yelled making Honou's expression turn from cocky to glowering.
"Shut up worm." Honou said making a tick mark form on Zancrow's head.
"The hell did you just call me?!" Zancrow yelled but Honou ignored him.
"I'm curious as to what you did after you locked me away in that prison." Honou said harshly saying the word prison as if it was poison in his mouth.
"That wasn't my fault Honou, after what you did I had no choice."
"Oh shut up, I'm done hearing your excuses." Honou replied glaring at the fire God.
"Watching you two interact sure is entertaining." A new presence said appearing from a puff of pink smoke that popped up beside Honou.
"Long time no see Kagu-Tsuchi, how's the whole redeeming a rotten soul thing going?" A woman with dark skin, teasingly seductive yellow eyes, and raven black hair that reached just under her shoulder blades. Her outfit consisted of a revealing egyptian style halter top that cut off just under her bust and a white and gold skirt.
"Qetesh." Kagu-Tsuchi spat clenching his bony fists tightly. Zancrow's eyes scanned over the buxom woman before him greedily, he couldn't help but stare lecherously at the dark skinned woman.
"What a mean tone you're using Kagu-Tsuchi. I'm the Goddess of fertility and sexual pleasure, you should be more respectful." Qetesh said in a mock hurt voice. She frowned slightly when Kagu-Tsuchi didn't react before her eyes drifted to Zancrow who hadn't stopped staring at her chest since she appeared.
"See, your little God slayer knows how to pay respect to a Goddess." Qetesh said pointing a finger toward Zancrow who was snapped from his ogling. "Bathing my holy body with praising and lecherous stares despite the fact that they will never receive any blessings from me. Just like a little puppy staring up at their master." Qetesh said with a smirk which made Umiko laugh and Zancrow growl.
"Why are you here?" Kagu-Tsuchi said seriously glaring at the Goddess.
"So rude, fine I'll tell you but only because it will bring me such joy to see the 'mighty' God of fire hear the big news." Qetesh said putting air quotes around mighty. "You see, the other Gods and I have noticed your occasional bending of the rules set by the big three. You know as well as I do they don't like when people break their rules." Qetesh said exuberantly as she smirked at the fire God.
"From you removing the seal placed on that vampire girl to you turning your body into pure flame in order to heal your puppet over there, we just couldn't ignore your blatant disregard of the rules."
"Pay close attention now because this is my favorite part." Qetesh said excitedly. "A few years ago this God slayer of yours broke out of the prison we built for him, we let him roam around for a while out of boredom and he eventually picked up a little God slayer of his own. He got pretty boring after a few years so we were about to just lock him back up in prison until an idea popped into our minds. Why not use him to punish his disobedient father, after all he already hates you." Qetesh said smirking as Kagu-Tsuchi began to seethe black flames.
"So we thought about for a bit and came up with the perfect way for you to redeem yourself Kagu-Tsuchi. We're going to pit your old God slayer against your new one to see if all your tampering has been worth anything or if you're merely wasting time."
"So in short, if Zancrow loses to Honou in our friendly little game then we'll be forced to revoke your status as the God of fire!" Qetesh said ecstatically as Kagu-Tsuchi glared at her.
"We sent the flat girl in first just as a test but now the real fun starts!" Qetesh squealed as Umiko collapsed from being called flat.
"Now that you're all caught up father why don't you just give in now. We both know that pathetic little vermin over there can't beat me. Why even make him try." Honou said smirking at his father as Zancrow clenched his fists in anger, he was about to scream his protest to the insult until Kagu-Tsuchi spoke up.
"Fine, I'll accept whatever punishment you have come up with." Kagu-Tsuchi said much to Zancrow and Shizuka's shock.
"The hell are you talking about ya flippant God?!" Zancrow yelled expecting to get an insult back from the fire God but he didn't say a word, he just slowly began to float toward Honou, Umiko, and Qetesh.
"Glad to see you've made the best decision Kagu-Tsuchi." Qetesh said
"What are you doing Kagu-Tsuchi?" Zancrow asked his anger now gone replaced instead by confusion.
"He's right Zancrow, you can't beat him. If you fight in this game you will die, it's better this way." Kagu-Tsuchi said not turning around to face Zancrow.
"As if I would lose to that g-" Zancrow said but he was interrupted by the fire God.
"Stop being an idiot! Think logically for just a minute, I trained Honou since the day he was born and you haven't even trained for a year! You WILL die if you fight him!" Kagu-Tsuchi yelled still not turning to look at Zancrow. Zancrow's hung low as he stared at the ground, Shizuka tried to place a hand on his shoulder only to feel it smoldering.
Kagu-Tsuchi was about to reach the Goddess and God slayers until he felt a ball of fire hit him on the back of the head. "You're the one that's being an idiot, I already told ya that I'm gonna be the one to slay you so I ain't gonna let you get yourself killed before I get the chance to beat you myself." Zancrow said with a smirk as Kagu-Tsuchi turned his head to see the smirking boy.
"I need you to put your faith in me." Zancrow said much to Kagu-Tsuchi's surprise, he stared at Zancrow who was still smirking before he smirked back.
"Putting my faith in a half baked God slayer like you, I must be losing my mind." Kagu-Tsuchi said vanishing from the God slayers side and returning to Zancrow's.
"Master, please be careful. He isn't as weak as you had first anticipated." Umiko said looking up to her master. Honou turned his gaze down to Umiko, his eyes held a half glare and half annoyed expression something that Umiko had never seen him use on her.
"M-Master…" Umiko stuttered but before he could say a word Zancrow spoke up.
"So are we gonna fight or what?" Zancrow asked making Honou sigh in an annoyed fashion.
"You are so irritating, how my father can put up with you is beyond me." Honou said walking closer to the group until he stood in the center of the clearing.
"Zancrow are you sure you should do this? Kagu-Tsuchi trained him since he was little, are you sure you can beat him?" Shizuka asked worriedly, she watched Zancrow chuckle slightly before he turned his head to look at her.
"Not even a little," Zancrow replied "but I can't just let that flippant God throw away his life...or at least not until I've kicked his ass myself." Zancrow continued with a smirk, the look he held reassured Shizuka of Zancrow's decision, it was confident and reassuring at the same time.
"Alright Zancrow, I trust you." Shizuka said as she and Kagu-Tsuchi walked toward the edge of the clearing. Qetesh and Umiko also walked toward the edge leaving Zancrow and Honou face to face with a thick tension between them. Zancrow sucked in a breath and blew it out to calm his nerves, he wasn't mentally scared of Honou but for some reason his body was shaking from just feeling his magic energy.
"Come on worm, I don't have all day. Rush in blindly like you always do and let me finish this already." Honou said making Zancrow growl.
"Don't get cocky ya bastard!" Zancrow yelled rushing in and throwing a flaming punch at Honou but he caught it without activating his magic.
"So pathetic..." Honou said forcing Zancrow closer and slamming a flaming punch into his stomach, Zancrow staggered back clutching his stomach in pain. He recovered and jumped up to drop kick Honou but he blocked that as well and pushed Zancrow back. Zancrow flipped in the air and landed on his feet but he didn't let up, he charged back in and began to throw flaming kicks and punches only for them to be blocked.
"Fire God's Destructive Fist!" Zancrow yelled pulling his fist back allowing it to explode with more flames than his previous attacks, he threw his fist straight for Honou's face but before it could hit he moved his head to the side and pulled his arm over his shoulder.
"Fire God's Feint." Honou said swinging his hand and hitting Zancrow square in the side. Zancrow felt pain shoot through his side until it spread to the rest of his body forcing a small amount of blood from his mouth. Zancrow tumbled back clutching his side from the agonizing pain he felt, he glared at Honou who maintained a stoic expression.
"He's losing…" Shizuka muttered but Kagu-Tsuchi quickly corrected her.
"No, he's being destroyed. Honou hasn't even moved from the spot he started in." Kagu-Tsuchi said as they watched Zancrow rush in to attack repeatedly only to be sent flying each and everytime.
"Damn it, I can't even hit him." Zancrow muttered as Honou sighed boredly.
"Of course not worm, you're just an insect staring up at a giant." Honou said making Zancrow chuckle.
"You sure do have a pretty high opinion of yourself." Zancrow said as he began charging in heading straight for Honou. Honou saw Zancrow duck low to try and swing for an uppercut, he readied himself for the attack but just as Zancrow was about to reach him he vanished. "That's good, it'll make it all the more fun to knock you off your high horse!" Zancrow yelled with a smirk as he appeared behind Honou and spun around to slam a kick into the first generation God slayers head. Honou felt the attack hit him sending a wave of flames over his head and forcing him to the ground.
"I see you activated God Drive." Honou said as he picked himself up. He turned his head toward Zancrow just as he was about to kick him again but this time a burst of flames covered Honou as he activated God Drive as well blocking the attack with his arm.
"I suppose even vermin can achieve something with their miserable lives." Honou said as he vanished and slammed a punch into Zancrow's back. He continuously vanished and reappeared slamming hit after hit into Zancrow's body. Honou dodged Zancrow's attempts at attacking him and continued to pummel him with flaming punches. "But in the end you're still just vermin." He said elbowing Zancrow in the back of the head and sending him to his knees. Zancrow wobbled on his knees for a few seconds spitting up some blood before he fell forward.
"This is why you need to remember your place Zancrow. Your place is under my foot." Honou said pressing his foot against the side of Zancrow's head, he pressed down hard as Zancrow tried to get back up.
"Down dog!" Honou yelled stomping down in Zancrow's head creating a crater where his head was located as he tried to pick himself back up. Zancrow groaned in pain as he felt Honou's foot pushing against his skull, he could almost hear the bones in his skull begging to give in under the amount of force being slammed into them. Zancrow felt his God drive vanish as he gripped the grass and dirt with a shaky hand.
"Just lay there and die already you filthy mutt." Honou said lifting his foot from Zancrow's head and turning around to walk away. Zancrow watched Honou walk away as he lay on the ground in pain.
"Die? Sorry to break it to ya Honou, but I got some friends waiting for me to come back to them." Zancrow said getting back onto his hands and knees. "If I died here they would be really sad, and I hate when they're sad." Zancrow said as he forced himself back onto his feet and stood with a smirk.
"Don't you ever learn? No matter how many times you get back up I'll just keep crushing you." Honou said as Zancrow began to stumble toward him his smirk unwavering.
"And every time you do I'll just keep getting back up, no matter how many times I lose I won't give up." Zancrow said finally reaching Honou, he pulled his fist back and tried to punch him only to be hit by a punch from Honou instead.
"I see, than I'll just have to kill you." Honou said slamming another punch into Zancrow's torso. Zancrow slid across the floor roughly but he got back up anyway trying to charge at Honou only to be shot down again. "And I suppose the easiest way to do that is with this." Honou said as he spread his arms out and focused his flames to his hands.
"Fire God's Banquet." Honou said as he slammed his two hands together and in the process he also slammed two flaming skulls around Zancrow trapping him in their vice like grip.
"Ah!" Zancrow yelled in pain as he felt the magic begin to drain from his body.
"As I'm sure you know, holy flames enjoy devouring pathetic fire mages especially when those fire mages are copying their divine magic." Honou said as the flames around Zancrow became darker and darker and in turn hotter and hotter.
"Zancrow!" Shizuka yelled as she watched Zancrow disappear into a sea of black flames. Despite being unable to see him, Shizuka could still hear his screams of pain.
"You're hanging on much longer than I would have thought you would-oh, looks like I spoke too soon." Honou said as he felt Zancrow's magic energy disappear with his screams dying down.
"My master did it!" Umiko cheered also sensing the disappearance of Zancrow's magic.
Honou was about to dispel his attack until something burst from the black flames. "Think again asshole!" Zancrow yelled as he the flames burst in every direction, he landed on the floor panting slightly as his hair covered his face.
"What the hell...your magic is completely gone, how are you alive?" Honou asked as Zancrow stood back up laughing as he did.
"Actually, I'm already technically dead…" He said as his hair returned to it's spot behind him revealing two golden orbs and a smirk staring back at Honou "since I'm a ghoul."
