Author's Note: It's been one year, seven months and two days since I last updated this story. A lot has happened in that time (please see my profile for more details!) but I hope you guys know that I've never forgotten about you or this story. I still read your reviews sometimes when I feel shitty about myself and need a confidence boost. My mental health crap has gotten the best of me more times than I care to admit, especially these last few years and I haven't been able to cope the way I used to (by writing fanfiction) because of the meds I'm on - but unfortunately I have a job and a life I gotta keep up with so I have no choice but to keep taking the meds cos they help me in that respect - they just numb me and make it hard to focus my emotions into my writing like I always have before.

BUT! I randomly went on my old email account and after scrolling through hundreds of spam emails, I found a message on here from sharphxxters that made me realise that I'm an idiot and I should have finished this story so long ago but I kept getting stuck and scared and finding excuses not to write just cos it was hard and I was tired. First and foremost, I am a writer. It's who I am, it's what I love and I owe it to all you awesome people out there to finish telling this story - because, sharphxxters, you're right. It means the world to not just me, but I know it means a lot to you guys too. So thank you for messaging me. Thank you for sticking by me. Thank you to all you awesome readers and writers alike out there. Keep on doing what you love and I will try my best too.

Much love,

Maxx

Chapter Thirty Six

What You Did To Me - Part 2

Rachel skipped to Glee Club that afternoon, encouraged by the sound of Santana's laugh that followed close behind.

"Hey, Mr. Schue!"

The man returned her smile as the girls took their seats amongst the other kids.

"As you guys know, Nationals is not far away. But Prom is even closer than that! And Principal Figgins has asked the Glee Club to be the entertainment."

The kids whooped. Will help up a hand to silence them.

"Now, I know it's been an intense rollercoaster the last couple of weeks, for all of us! And I know it's only going to get more so in the run up to Nationals but think of Prom as a chance to get your vocal chords warmed up, to figure out what we want and how we're going to get it."

Will looked out at the kids – his kids – watching him expectantly, excitedly, fire in their eyes. He felt his heart swell for them – he wanted them to win at Nationals, not just for the glory and recognition they deserved but so that once and for all they would know what he had known all along – that they could do anything, that they were more than just jocks, geeks, cheerleaders and everything in between. They were a team and it was what made them different that made them great.

"I know you don't all see eye to eye at the moment, more than usual. And maybe it's something that can't be fixed but you need to try. You've all been through so much together and no matter the odds you've always come through, better and stronger." He took a breath. When no one seemed to be stepping forward to help him out he continued. "I believe in you guys. More than I've ever believed in anything before. Now, I don't know the whole story, but I know enough. Finn, Santana, could you come up here please?" The room almost visibly tensed before Will's eyes as the two kids hesitantly came to stand next to him. "A lot has happened between you two, a lot has been said and done and since you're both stubborn, I'm going to help you take the first step. I want you both to shake hands," he stepped back, gesturing for the scowling boy and sceptical girl to take over.

The two faced each other and, after a very long moment of silence, Santana stuck her left hand out. Finn's eyes flickered down to it. His jaw set.

"For what it's worth, Finn…" the girl faltered, heaved in a breath and forced the words out. "I'm sorry."

Surprise flickered in his eyes.

"I didn't mean to hurt you. I just wanted to disappear. I was so… so sick of everythin' being so fucked up all the fuckin' time!" she lowered her outstretched hand, her eyes fixed on it as she pulled at a loose thread on the bandages. "I-I know you don't wanna hear it. I know you hate me. I don't fuckin' blame you. I hate me. Yeah, things coulda been handled better - on both our sides – but they weren't so here we are… I'm tryin' to learn from my mistakes, tryin' to change. For her…"

Finn's eyes flickered to Rachel, the muscles in his jaw flexing as he ground his teeth. Santana saw and let out a sigh.

"Whether you believe me or not is your choice. But I know you're too big a person to let your problems with me ruin things for everyone else. You love this club as much as I do, Finn. So can we put this behind us? At least until we kick some ass in New York?" she offered her hand again.

The boy forced a smile onto his face and took the hand, dropping it barely more than a second later as if it had burnt him. "Sure."

"Excellent!" Will clapped them both on the shoulder, propelling them back to their seats. "Now, who wants to suggest some songs for Prom?"

Quinn stepped down from the back, Puck close on her heels, guitar in hand. The boy handed music sheets to the band and plugged his axe into the amp. His fingers flew across the fret board as Quinn took the wireless mic from the bewildered Will, the band seamlessly joining in.

"You're too loud, I'm so hyper
On paper we're a disaster
And I'm driving you crazy
It's my little game."

Her voice came out strong, her eyes meeting Santana's. This was the only way she could figure out how to tell her idiot of a best friend how she felt, how she made her feel…

"I push you, and you push back
Two opposites so alike that
Every day's a rollercoaster
But I'm a bump you'll never get over!"

Puck joined in for the chorus, earning a smile from Quinn. He had been the one to convince her to do this. If he hadn't they would have literally spent the rest of their lives not talking or avoiding the subject… he knew the two girls better than he knew himself - they needed a kick or they would never get past it.

"It's a love (love), hate (hate) relationship
You say you (you) can't (can't) handle it.
But there's no way to stop this now
So shut up and kiss me.
Kick (kick), scream (scream) and call it quits.
But your just (just) so (so) full of it
Cause it's too late to close your mouth
So shut up and kiss me."

Puck went to town on his guitar as the Glee kids cheered them on.

"So shut up!" Brittany called out from beside Santana.

"So shut up!" Tina yelled from next to Rachel.

The smile on Quinn's face had the two girls on their feet to join her, Brittany twirling Quinn as she launched into the song again.

"I call you and you pick up
I tell you how much I'm in love,
I'm laughing and you get mad,
It's my little game.
Go ahead now, admit it
You like your world with me in it!
Like a record, it's broken,
Yeah, I'm a bump you'll never get over!"

She sent a shrug Santana's way, making her friend laugh, before striding right up to her and planting a kiss square on her forehead.

"You'll miss my lips, my kiss, my laugh
The riffs from my guitar
The way we fight, we make up fast.
Ohh yeah!"

She stepped back with a wink at Santana as Puck took centre stage, shredding up his axe like he never had before, his fingers a blur. He had all their friends clapping along, whooping and whistling at the concentration on his face.

"So shut up!" The whole Glee club chimed in making Puck smile.

"Love!" Quinn sang out.

"Love!" The entire roomed echoed back to her.

"Hate!"

"Hate!"

"Cause it's a love (love), hate (hate) relationship
You say you (you) can't (can't) handle it.
But there's no way to stop this now,
So shut up and kiss me.
Kick (kick), scream (scream) and call it quits
But you're just so freakin' full of it!
Cause it's too late, to close your mouth
Shut up and kiss me."

"So shut up!"

"Shut up and kiss me!" Quinn sang out the last line, leaving herself stood in front of Santana as the music faded and the Glee Club's cheers and applause filled the room. Santana couldn't stop her grin as she used her right forearm to clap.

The cheering only intensified as the two best friends met in the middle, wrapping their arms around each other. Brittany practically sprinting across the choir room to join them, a huge smile on her own face.

"I'm sorry, Q," was all Santana could think to say, mumbling the words into her friend's shoulder.

"Me too."

Quinn drew in a shaky breath, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes. She couldn't do this shit anymore. She couldn't keep almost losing her best friend all the time – her heart was still being pieced back together from the last couple of months, she needed her friends if she was going to make it through Nationals, never mind the rest of High School and beyond! She buried her face in Santana's neck.

Brittany's warmth and strength was greatly appreciated as the girl wrapped herself around the two of them. This is how it was supposed to be. The Unholy Trinity. The smile that curved her mouth was felt by Santana, but she could never have guessed the reason for it as Quinn remembered, all those years back, when they had come up with the name.

"Well!" Will clapped his hands together, starting to get to his feet. "That was a great choice, Quinn, does anyone else-"

Rachel cut him off, hopping to her feet and striding across to take the offered mic from Quinn before Will could finish. "When do you ever need to ask, Mr. Schue?"

The man chuckled and swept an arm towards the band as Rachel gave them their cue.

"Let's go!"

Puck and the lead guitarist led the band in, drums pounding out the rhythm, the keyboard and guitars dominating as the Unholy Trinity made way for the diva to do her thing.

"Don't want'cha for the weekend, don't want'cha for a night
I'm only interested if I can have you for life,
yeah!"

Rachel shot a wink at her girlfriend, making the Glee kids wolf whistle.

"I know I sound serious; and baby, I am!
You're a fine piece of real estate,
and I'm gonna get me some land!"

Santana couldn't help the laugh that jumped out of her. She mock fanned herself with her good hand as Brittany and Quinn yelled their agreement.

"Oh, yeah!
So, don't try to run, honey;
love can be fun!
There's no need to be alone
when you find that someone!"

Rachel reached forward and pulled Quinn out to the front to sing the chorus with her, Tina and the rest of the Glee girls joining in too – only Santana remained seated.

"I'm gonna getcha while I gotcha in sight,
I'm gonna getcha if it takes all night!
You can betcha by the time I say "go",
you'll never say "no"!
I'm gonna getcha; it's a matter of fact
I'm gonna getcha, don'tcha worry 'bout that
You can bet your bottom dollar, in time you're gonna be mine
Just like I should - I'll getcha good!"

The diva went and sat in Santana's lap, draping her free arm around her shoulder.

"Yeah, I've already planned it.
Here's how it's gonna be:
I'm gonna love you,
and you're gonna fall in love with me!
Yeah!"

She planted a kiss on the girl's cheek before hopping off her. Santana aww'd in disappointment. Rachel re-joined the other Glee girls, letting them help her up onto the piano to stand between Britt and Tina. Her eyes closed in concentration as she put her all into the song.

"Yeah, I'm gonna getcha, baby.
I'm gonna knock on wood!
I'm gonna getcha somehow, honey.
Yeah, I'm gonna make it good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!
So, don't try to run, honey;
love can be fun!
There's no need to be alone
when you find that someone."

The whole Glee club joined her for the chorus this time. A smile lit her face as her eyes fell on a rather red Santana sat watching her from the front row – a look in her eyes that Rachel couldn't quite place…

"I'm gonna getcha; it's a matter of fact.
I'm gonna getcha, don'tcha worry 'bout that.
You can bet'cha bottom dollar in time
you're gonna be mine!
Oh I'm gonna getcha!
I'm gonna getcha real good.
But you can betcha,
Oh I'm gonna getcha."

Taking Tina's offered hand, Rachel dropped down to sit between her and Brittany. The girl's voice softening as the room disappeared until only Santana and her intense, dark eyes remained.

"Just like I should
I'll getcha good.
Ohh I'm gonna getcha good."

The song ended but neither girl noticed. It took Mr. Schue ushering the girls off the piano and Tina nudging Rachel when she didn't move right away to get her to snap out of it. A blush coloured her cheeks, she finally managed to escape from her girlfriend's hold on her long enough to register Tina's knowing wink.

Mr. Schue informed them that they would hear more Prom ideas and songs tomorrow, his words following them out the door as the bell rang and they headed home. "I want you all to be thinking about songs for Nationals as well! Since our original songs went so well at Regionals I think we should consider writing some more. So get those creative juices flowing, guys!"

Lauren and Puck sniggered as they passed him.

The man rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean! See you all tomorrow."

Santana offered Rachel her bag, earning herself a shy smile. "Rach-"

"San! Rachel! Come on, there's a man waiting outside that looks just like you, Rach. He's even the same size as you!" Brittany had come skipping back into the now empty choir room and wrapped an arm around each of the girls. "He says we're all invited for dinner! …If that's okay with you and San?" Her smile faltered a little as she looked between them, sensing she might have interrupted something.

Rachel shook herself, turning to the blonde with a brilliant smile. "Of course it's okay, Brittany. It sounds like fun to me." She slung her bag over her shoulder, her hand finding Santana's as Brittany ushered them excitedly towards the exit.

"Yay! Quinn said she'd come, Puck and Tina too. The others were still deciding when I left…" The girl kept chattering away, oblivious to the strange tension that had settled over the couple after their missed moment.

AN: This was what I had typed up already on my laptop, I promise to find my notebook with the next few chapters I've written in it and type them up asap! I hope this will tide you over for now =)

P.S. The songs are 'Shut Up & Kiss Me' by Orianthi and 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good!' by Shania Twain, respectively.
