5YL the Adventure Begins

Part 36

After changing out of his suit, Blaine paused for a moment to decide on what he was going to wear as he'd be getting right to work upon landing. With that knowledge along with the fact he was going to see Sebastian, he put on a pair of midnight blue pants, grey V-neck t-shirt, plus grabbed a black blazer out of the closet to put over it. Now that he knew what he was wearing, Blaine went into the bathroom and tousled his hair a bit as he preferred his curls looser than he'd worn them that morning. Once that was done, it didn't take him long to get ready.

When he came walking out of the bedroom, bag over his shoulder Scott smiled at him. "What's with the look?" Blaine asked as Scott got up from the couch.

"You're more dressed up than I expected you to be." Scott told him as he reached for Blaine's electric that was leaning against the couch as he didn't want it traveling without him. "Any particular reason?"

"Vincent told me I needed to be ready to go when we landed." Blaine replied as they headed for the door. "So, I'm ready."

"This has nothing to do with the fact that we're going to see Sebastian." When a smile crept to Blaine's face, Scott laughed. "I figured as much. You look good."

"Thank you."

After they got Blaine's bags into the car and were on their way, Blaine sent Sebastian a text letting him know if his impending arrival. When he got a response back, Blaine smiled as Sebastian told him he'd meet him in the lobby and would have a drink waiting for him. Even with his sunglasses on, Scott could tell that more of earlier tension was leaving Blaine. Once they pulled up in front, Scott told the driver they wouldn't be long before making his way out followed by Blaine. With the sleeves on his blazer pushed up, Blaine headed for the doors as Scott stayed far enough back. The moment he walked inside, Blaine placed his sunglasses on top of his head and instantly spotted Sebastian who was standing off to the side.

"No fair looking so sexy when I'm unable to enjoy it for an extended period of time." Sebastian said to him before handing him his iced tea and giving him a kiss. "I'm serious B, you look great." While he spoke, they headed for two seats out of the way. "Do I even want to know how things went?"

"They went as expect." Blaine replied before taking a sip. "And thank you for the compliment."

"You are quite welcome. Know that if you weren't leaving, I wouldn't be able to behave myself once I got home."

"Who says you'd need to, we could have a fun Skype session tonight?"

"I like the sound of that, get to see more of that sun-kissed skin of yours." Sebastian then reached out and took ahold of Blaine's hand. "Since you didn't originally plan on coming by, what happened B?"

"He was an ass, and I lost my cool."

"Considering how well you've kept it together, it was bound to happen at some point."

"True, my parents didn't seem as shocked as Burt did."

"His Dad was there?" Sebastian questioned before taking a sip of his coffee as Blaine nodded in response. "How did he react to what you said?"

"He was shocked, but I feel he was more shocked by Kurt's behavior as I mainly lost it after the Judge left."

"Not the best way to make an impression."

"The Judge wasn't happy in the slightest, as he already wasn't happy to see us again."

"Who'd you go before?"

"Judge Cartwright, he's the same man that over saw our divorce and was clearly happy when he no longer had to deal with us."

"I've heard about him, he's certainly a no nonsense sort of Judge." Sebastian said. "And B, I bet he was more relieved to no longer deal with Hummel given what you told me."

"I can attest to that, about him being no nonsense. After what happened, I needed to see you before I left as I didn't want to leave in a bad mood."

"Not that I'm happy he upset you, but I'm glad you came." When Blaine snickered, Sebastian shook his head, yet Blaine got to see the smile reserved solely for him. "Okay, I brought that on myself."

"You did. I think just for that I'm going to play it tonight, in your honor."

"I'm touched; I wish I was able to be there to hear it."

"Me too." Blaine replied as he gave Sebastian's hand a squeeze. "How much longer till you have to head back up?"

"A few minutes. Do you have enough time to come up with me, there are a few people that I'd like you to meet and they'd love to meet you?" Blaine then glanced at Scott who nodded. "Well then, let's head on up then." Once the two were standing, Sebastian looked at Scott. "Aren't you coming?"

"No, as I'm pretty sure he'll be safe up there. Just don't take too long Blaine as we need to get going as well."

"I won't."

When they stepped out of the elevator, Sebastian guided him towards his desk and once they reached it Blaine smiled as Sebastian not only had a picture of the two of them on it, but one of only him. After setting his coffee down, he nudged Blaine in the side and brought him over to Angela and Tiffany who were working in Angela's cube. "Ladies, do you have a minute?"

"Sure, what do you…Oh my God!" Angela responded as the two turned to see not only Sebastian standing in the opening, but Blaine as well. "You're…you're Blaine Anderson."

"That I am, at least last time I checked." Blaine replied with a smile as he extended his hand.

"Blaine, this is Angela and Tiffany." After Sebastian spoke, the two began to ramble a bit as they told Blaine who was who even though Sebastian had motioned to each when saying their name before shaking his hand. "They're normally way more composed than this B, it's as though they're meeting someone they admire."

"So I take it from what you've told me about them." Blaine replied. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you both."

"You've spoken about us?" Tiffany said as she looked at Sebastian who nodded. "I hope it was nothing too embarrassing."

"Nothing too embarrassing, as I told him you both actually met at one of his shows before the internship started. Oh, and I might've told him you both think he pulls off adorable and sexy quite well." When they started to blush, Blaine nudged Sebastian who smiled. "Since he was here to see me before he left, I thought you'd like to meet him."

"We do, thank you Sebastian." Angela replied with a smile. "Blaine, would you mind taking a picture with us before you go?" Blaine shook his head and soon Sebastian was handed a phone and each girl was soon on either side of Blaine. Once it was taken, Sebastian showed it to them to make sure they approved before Blaine had to get going.

Before walking Blaine to the elevators, they saw Caleb who was happy to finally meet Blaine and was more composed than the girls had been. They were waiting for the elevator when Mr. Davis came rounding the corner. "Sebastian, who do we have here?"

Sebastian swallowed before looking at his boss. "Mr. Davis, this is my boyfriend, Blaine Anderson."

"It's a pleasure to meet you sir." Blaine replied. "Thank you so much for allowing Sebastian to leave early to take in my performance yesterday."

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Blaine. As for allowing Sebastian to leave a bit early, it wasn't an issue since he works quite hard and I was aware you were only in town for a brief amount of time." With that last bit, he raised his eyebrow slightly as he looked at Sebastian.

"Blaine's actually on his way to the airport sir. He had a legal matter to take care of this morning, and stopped by before leaving." Just then the elevator doors opened and people began to exit. "I guess this means it's time for you to go." Sebastian said, his voice wavering slightly and Blaine nodded in response. "Text me when you land." Blaine nodded once more before giving Sebastian's hand a squeeze. Mr. Davis hastily excused himself to allow the two to say goodbye without an audience. "I love you."

"I love you too." Blaine then moved up on his toes and the two exchanged a brief kiss. "We'll talk tonight."

"Definitely." After Sebastian spoke, the two released their hands and Blaine backed his way into the elevator. With a small wave from Blaine, the doors closed and Sebastian headed back to his desk. During his walk back, Mr. Davis was waiting for him. "Is there something I can do for you sir?" He asked while maintaining his composure as saying goodbye once again sucked.

"If you needed a few more minutes, I would've understood."

"He really does have a plane to catch as he's performing this evening. He wasn't even going to be coming by after he dealt with the matter, but…"

"Something happened that caused him to need to see you?" Sebastian nodded. "Did everything go in his favor?"

"Yes sir, it's just…" Sebastian paused as he thought how to answer without saying too much. "The person he had to deal with is someone he'd prefer never having to encounter again."

"It's a tedious situation then."

"Yes sir."

"Very well." Mr. Davis said and was about to turn when he heard Sebastian's voice. "Yes Sebastian."

"It wasn't an issue that he stopped by, was it?"

"Why should it be as plenty of spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends have stopped by at one point or another."

"I was simply checking sir."

"Sebastian, I told you that your sexuality isn't an issue. Trust me when I tell you this, you have no reason to worry. Now get back to work as it'll be the best way to get your mind off the fact that he's leaving." When Sebastian raised an eyebrow, Mr. Davis smiled. "My wife used to travel for work all the time, so I know how it feels to watch them leave and wish you were going with or they weren't leaving."

"Does it ever get easier?"

"No, but that's a good thing as odd as it sounds. From what I saw in that brief amount of time, you're both feeling the same way which only demonstrates how much you both care for one another." With that said, Mr. Davis headed on his way and Sebastian headed back to his desk. Each time the two had said goodbye, it hurt but Mr. Davis helped put another perspective on things which Sebastian appreciated in that moment.

With Kurt telling his Dad he had to go to work, Burt took his time heading back to Kurt's apartment and was surprised when he saw Rachel and Thad out taking a walk. Once Rachel spotted him, she tightened her hold on Thad's hand as he was walking towards them. "It's been awhile Rachel." Burt said after they greeted one another. "How have you been?"

"Good, yourself?" Rachel replied and got a similar answer. "What brings you to town?"

"Uh..." Burt said as he ran his hand over the back of his neck. "Kurt called and asked if I'd come as he'd gotten himself in a bit of a bind." Before he could stop himself, Thad huffed softly. "That's a bit uncalled for, isn't it Thad?"

"From what I heard, he brought this all on himself as he knew better."

"I take it Blaine told you, or was it Sebastian?"

"Actually, I heard from Santana as her girlfriend is friends with one of the reporters Kurt opened his mouth in front of." Thad replied. "Blaine and Sebastian didn't say a word to us about what happened. You see, they tend to not tell us stuff like this knowing how we'd all react. You see Mr. Hummel, when Kurt…strongly encouraged, persuaded Blaine to push his Dalton friends from his life, it hurt. Then to find out years later the hell our friend went through and we weren't there for him, stung. We all vowed that we would do whatever we could to see to it Blaine wasn't hurt again." Rachel looked up at him, and smiled as she was pleased with how he was handling himself knowing how easy it would be for him to snap. "Since we've reunited, your son still seems to be the cause of problems Blaine has to deal with. So, you should be able to understand why these things are kept from us if possible."

When Burt looked at Thad, Rachel stepped forward slightly. "They wouldn't physically hurt him Burt, but they would voice their opinions and feelings on the manner rather strongly. Something which I'm sure you could understand as you stand up for those you care for."

"I do understand, yet I don't know why they feel it necessary to fight Blaine's battles for him."

"Blaine has a legal team to do that Mr. Hummel, something you're well aware of." Thad told him. "Us getting involved entails telling your son how we feel about his behavior towards not only Blaine, but Sebastian as well."

"Something you've all done numerous times already."

"True, we have. Yet each time, it was necessary as he can't seem to control himself around them." When Burt sighed, Rachel gave Thad's hand a squeeze hoping he wouldn't say anything else.

"Were you able to help him?" Rachel asked as she could see a look of concern on Burt's face.

"It was more about support." Burt told her. "Everything that is happening with Blaine isn't easy for him." Those words had Thad shift on his feet as he refrained from speaking once more. "I know that isn't an excuse for his behavior, yet it is part of the reasoning behind it. Rachel, you out of everyone should know he has problems adapting to certain things."

"I do, but as you said it's not an excuse." Rachel replied. "Kurt's an adult and is responsible for his behavior. Simply because he's having problems accepting it, doesn't give him the right to say or do whatever he pleases without consequences."

"Agreed. He and I are going to speak again this evening once he's done with work, but I can only do so much as he is an adult now." Burt said to them. "Hopefully today opened his eyes more as to the seriousness of the situation he's gotten himself into." While Burt was speaking, Thad excused himself as his phone had gone off and it was his sister. Once he walked away, Burt tilted his head. "Do you and Kurt even talk anymore Rachel?"

"No. Ever since I found out what he did to Blaine, it's hard to look at him in the same manner given what he said about Blaine while they were divorcing. He's become someone I no longer recognize Burt." Rachel told him. "For all the hell he gave Blaine in high school when he cheated and it was only once, Kurt turned around and did the same thing on a grander scale while they were married. Plus…he hit Blaine on more than one occasion as well." Burt looked towards the ground as the last bit came out. "You are aware of all that aren't you?"

"Unfortunately, I am." Burt said in response. "I don't say unfortunate in that I know, but that it happened. No matter how bad things got, Kurt never should've done those things. The thing about all that Rachel is that since it happened, I don't understand why he fought Blaine so fiercely on the divorce when he clearly wasn't happy."

"Santana and I have had the same conversation more times than I can possibly keep track of." Rachel told him. "So much of it didn't make sense to us, and once they were divorced he'd always ask the two of us about Blaine."

"Did Blaine ever ask about him?"

"No. Honestly, after Blaine moved out and they separated, Kurt's name was rarely ever brought up as Blaine tried to not involve the rest of us in their issues."

"Yet Kurt put you all in a position to choose sides."

"He did, and would get upset when we refused. After they divorced, Kurt told me he still loved Blaine, yet after hearing what I did I don't know how that's possible." When Burt sighed again, Rachel placed her hand on his forearm. "I didn't tell you this to upset you Burt."

"I know Rachel." Burt said in response. "More and more I realize that I don't know who Kurt has become with the way I've personally witnessed him behaving. Everything you and even Thad have said, only reinforce those things. Much as I would like to believe he's the same person he was when he moved to New York, I know he's not. I simply wish I knew what caused him to change so much."

"I wish I could help you Burt, but I don't know. The only one that can give you that answer is Kurt." Rachel was speaking when Thad returned with a smile on his face. "What has you so happy?"

"For one of the first times since we all went to college, my parents are going to have all their kids home and it's not one of the major holidays."

"Does that mean Emerson is going to be joining you in Ohio?"

"That she is, and she made me promise to re-introduce her to one of her favorite Warblers." When Rachel giggled, Thad slipped his arm around her. "What can I say, she's always had a soft spot for Blaine."

"I can understand that." Rachel said to him before stretching to kiss Thad on the cheek.

"You're going to be in Ohio?" Burt asked as he looked at the two.

"Yes, a bunch of us are going home over Labor Day since Blaine's performing in Columbus that weekend. We get to support him once again as a group, plus also spend time with our families."

"Now, I understand why Will asked if I knew if any of the New Directions were going to be in town then." Burt said to them.

"Most of them are going to be in town." Rachel told him. "I wish I was able to, but I have other commitments."

"Do you mind me asking who is going to be there?"

"Santana, Quinn, Tina, Brittany, Artie, Puck, Mike, and of course Sam." Rachel replied. "And Mercedes is still seeing if she can work the trip into her schedule. As for the members that came after I left, I'm not sure but I remember Tina mentioning something about them coming as well."

"I see."

"Burt, you've got to know if they were planning a gathering around anything else, Kurt would've been included."

"One would hope, but it's not as though Kurt could attend if he wanted to considering the restraining order Blaine has against him."

"You do know that was a last resort for Blaine, don't you?"

"I do. I should let you both go as I'm sure you have things to do beside talk with me." Burt said and Rachel nodded. "Good luck tonight Rachel, it was good seeing you. Thad."

"Mr. Hummel." After Burt walked away, Thad wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. "That couldn't have been easy for you."

"It wasn't. Burt's a really good Dad and it's got to be killing him to see the mess Kurt's gotten himself into." Rachel told him before feeling a kiss pressed to the top of her head. "Nothing he does when it comes to Blaine makes sense."

"Tell me something I don't know." Thad replied as they began to walk, earning him a nudge in the side. "Hey, it's true, but you're right, his behavior doesn't make sense. I only wish he'd get whatever it is out of his system, so Blaine doesn't have to worry about what he'll do next."

"I wish he would as well, as it's not healthy." Rachel said. "For his part, Blaine's put that part of his life behind him; I only wish Kurt would do the same."

When Blaine finally touched down in Indianapolis he was more than ready to get to work. With everything that he had on his mind, Scott got treated to him playing his guitar almost the entire flight. After they had everything loaded into a waiting car, Blaine finally turned his phone back on and was greeted by a barrage of messages. Considering the time his band left, they were already settled and waiting for his arrival. He was also happy to see a message from Vincent saying he got permission for Blaine to play the numbers he wanted to do in Columbus.

The moment Scott saw a small fist pump from Blaine; he couldn't help but ask what it was in regards to. Blaine went on to explain and in that moment he saw even more life come back to him, yet nothing like when he was with Sebastian. Having to get right to work, the car pulled up towards the stage and they were going to drop Blaine's things off once they were done. Blaine had turned from getting his guitar when he heard a familiar voice. "If it isn't Blaine Anderson himself."

"Puck, what are you doing here?"

"Crazy as this sounds, I work security here." Puck told him as Scott looked between them. "When I saw the performer list I had to do a double-take." Puck continued as they headed towards the stage. "The first time Santana told me what was going on with you, I was shocked."

"Were you now?" Blaine said to him and Puck nodded. "Don't worry, it's a bit much to take in at times for even me."

"Yet you deserve it." Blaine cocked his head after Puck spoke. "While what you play isn't necessarily my type of music, I went and got your CD. Damn, you're good!"

"Thank you."

"I'm serious; Santana and the others weren't kidding." Puck was still speaking when Tess came walking to them. Knowing who that was, Puck refrained from saying anything else as they set Blaine's guitar case on a shelf so he could open it. Before grabbing is guitar Blaine removed his blazer so as not to get sweaty during sound check. "Are my eyes deceiving me, or does your guitar resemble your Dalton days?"

"You're not, as it does." Blaine replied as he slipped his strap over his shoulder. "If you'll excuse me." Puck nodded as Blaine headed on stage where his band was waiting for him.

"I take it you went to school with Blaine." Scott said as he crossed his arms over his chest while glancing at Puck. While Puck wasn't a small person, he felt small next to Scott.

"I did. I take it you're his body guard."

"I am, along with the head of security for him and his band." Scott told him. "I'm assuming Marcus has spoken with either you or your supervisor."

"He did. Normally my boss would've greeted Blaine, but since I went to school with him, he let me do it." Puck told him. "I was expecting him to arrive with his band earlier."

"Blaine had a matter he needed to attend to this morning, which is why he didn't travel with them."

"Got it, as I didn't think he'd gotten some out of control ego."

"He didn't, he was actually pretty upset that he wasn't traveling with them." While Scott spoke, Blaine began to play and Puck's eyes went wide. Scott refrained from laughing at the shock on Puck's face when he heard Blaine and his band play. "Just think, hasn't completely warmed up yet." In that moment, Marcus came walking over as he'd been on the other side of the stage. "Duty calls." When the two walked away, Puck moved closer to the stage as he was honestly shocked with what he was seeing and hearing. Everything Santana and Sam had told him seemed over-blown, yet every bit of it was true. Blaine was every bit the musician and performer he was in high school, but now it was taken to an entirely new level.
