Chapter 34; the Stoic Blue sky with the Vehement Navy Blue Horizon
Zane's POV
While my brothers play video games, I stand here in the game room pondering what I should get Emma. I wish I knew Emma's date of birth sooner or else I would have been prepared! She asked for iced tea but I probably should get her something else; Daffodils perhaps?
"Perhaps I will just meditate on this…" I say to myself sitting down in the corner of the game room, my brothers shrug and continue their video games.
"Something just occurred to me, what were you guys planning to get Emma for her birthday?" Jay asks Cole, Lloyd, and Kai.
"I almost forgot about that. We should all just pitch in for a present from all of us." Cole suggests and Kai, Jay, and Lloyd agree.
Sigh, my ninja training never taught me how to deal with matter of the heart. I do not even have a heart. Has love been given to an untrue being? I repeat inside my cranium time after time.
I close my optics and picture a vast blue sky with navy across the horizon. The deeper I go the more I feel the cold air envelope my senses. A fall breeze turning to winter blows away the last few leaves off a bare tree in the Birchwood forest. I look up into the stoic blue sky with the vehement navy blue horizon.
Sadly, daffodils are not in season.
I feel so hooped.
At least I can get her a six-pack of Snapples.
Yet I feel that I should get her something more than that. Something that will speak louder than something I can just say.
Emma deserves so much more than that.
How can I give a gift that could compare to what she gives me day after day?
Her visage is beautiful and amiable.
Her hair swerves with an opulent onyx.
Every time I see it I passionately want to touch its gentleness and feel the smooth strands between my fingers.
Oh, how I cannot resist gazing into her iridescent forget-me-not eyes.
So how can I give a gift that could compare to what she gives me day after day?
I must give her something beautiful and iridescent…
...I have the perfect idea!
It is time to call in a few favors…
Cece's POV
Relieved that Emma reluctantly agreed to celebrate her birthday, the rest of the Cosmic Legion and I head into our shared quarters to get ready for a girl's night out. Yet before that…
"We got the plan settled with the guys, right?" I ask Anne and Laura while Emma takes a shower.
"Yes, all we need is the approval of Sensei Wu." Anne replies.
"Good, and while I will keep Emma busy you two will monitor the progress while we are gone?"
"Affirmative." the kunoichi of light says.
"Glad we got that settled. Should we dress nicely to go out or go shopping for new outfits…?" I ask and Anne answers.
"We should surprise the guys when we come back if you know what I mean." Anne winks at me and I smile.
"Mw-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" I chuckle while Anne and Laura stare at me strangely, "Too far?" I ask.
"Too far" they both say. Emma leaves the bathroom in a plush navy blue robe.
"Oh, good" I say rubbing my hands together, "you're out! Now I can do my hair!" I say walking through the door into the bathroom.
I stare at myself though the fogged up mirror. I look at my green irises like trees in a misty forest. I stroke my fingers through my dirty blonde hair. What more can a girl want; pretty green eyes, dirty blonde hair, and a great figure if I say myself? 'Green is the new blue' is what my mom said when I was younger, yet every time I look inside the mirror I do not see anyone special. There are so many people in Ninjago, so many girls just like me. I don not feel original at all. Yet Kai, I have never seen anyone like him; his eyes, oh, I never seen so much vehement in one place. Some people may say otherwise, but Kai is so unique and fascinating to me. Even though you see so many hotheaded and spike-headed people in shows and in general, I just find him captivating. Yet I do not see anything captivating about me.
Nothing new is what I am, another blonde idiot. Yet am I an idiot?
The fog in the mirror clears and I see my face entirely.
I sigh and start on my hair. Perhaps I should do something different from my usual. My usual is typically straightening the front of my hair to create a frame with two small piggy-tails on the sides of my head. My long hair still flows out freely with the piggy-tails being very small. I grab the curling iron and curl my hair.
When I am finished with my hair, I walk out of the bathroom and look though my closet for something to wear. I grab a green shirt with a reasonable V neck and it goes down mid-thigh. I put on some dark-colored skinny jeans. Looking through my scarves, I pick a fluffy pink one and grab a black fedora. I finally grab a stylish black leather purse and a black belt. I turn around and look at the outfits of the rest of the Legion.
Emma wears a small black trench coat with a bright white scarf. Underneath she has on leggings and a long navy blue sweater. Where we are at in Ninjago gets cold easily in September. Emma puts on a hair-band and silver hoop earrings.
Laura has on a bright yellow blouse with a charcoal grey skirt. Her straight brown hair reaches just past her shoulders and Laura has on stud earrings.
I take one look at Anne and shake my head.
I cannot describe how awful her fashion sense is, if you want to look like a tomboy at least do it right!
I grab a silky silver top and demand for her to wear it instead with the jeans she already got on. I hand her a small jean jacket and hand it to her as well.
"Wow Cece, what would we do without you?" Laura asks.
"You would be struggling with fashion and that is why you have me!" I say skipping out of the room looking fabulous.
The rest of Cece-&-Co simply smiles and follows me out the door. Beyond the door, we walk on deck and look down the rails. We were at the coast but none of us were in the mood to go swimming.
"So, where to first?" looking at Emma, Laura, and Anne I ask.
"Oh look, there must be an end of summer carnival going on!" Laura points out at the board walk.
"Awesome!" I say and we jump off the bounty and on the sand. An ocean breeze blows through all of our hair.
"FERRIS WHEEL!" we all scream running to the carnival.
Zane's POV
I watch Emma and the Cosmic Legion jump off the rails to the carnival on the boardwalk. I wish I could have taken her there for her birthday. Nevertheless, I have a job to do. I jump off the rails to get Emma her present. I step on the dock and take a look at the white sand and calm waters. Breathing in the salty air, I walk on the dock to find a store where they will have it.
Laura's POV
Waiting in line for the Ferris wheel, I stay quiet while all the girls chat away. Emma turns around to me.
"You haven't said much, Laura. Is there something troubling you?" She asks.
"Nope, just being my quiet self." I say and Emma hesitantly nods. I look over at the venders and all the games. There is a lot of candy here. I bet Lloyd would have liked to go on all these rides. I feel my face flush thinking about him. Yet I know I lack audacity and strength tremendously.
I-I am terrified.
Emma speaks to me of things so full of hope. It seems like I am the only one she freely speaks to.
She describes to me how vivid my future is. 'Why not speak for yourself, Emma?'
I feel my heart is a rose enveloped in a bush of thorns, thorns that may have been apart of a weed or just the rose itself.
A deep crimson rose filled with love withered in time.
Yet if I am this long gone should I still feel this way? Is this insanity just an illusion or is there no wall at all? My heart is a note in a bottle that has sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Did I make this complicated? Perhaps I am just not ready. I just need to heal my heart shot with an arrow.
A blood thirsty arrow
"Laura, you coming?" the warrior of life reaches out her hand. I snap out of my daze and pensive thoughts. I sit by the girls in the Ferris wheel.
"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Cece yells while the cage goes dramatically slow. I shake my head when Emma joins her.
"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" Soon, Anne and I give in and join them.
"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE—" Soon we are hushed by the guy controlling all the levers. Cece and Emma sit back down and pout.
Emma's POV
Leaving the Carnival for a bit, we go to the mall right by the board walk.
"What should we get for lunch?" Cece asks walking backwards to face the rest of the girls.
"Perhaps Emma should decide because she is the birthday girl." Laura suggests before she tells Cece to turn back around before she bumps into a random stranger.
"I am in the mood for sushi." I say with a smile.
"Great choice," Anne says content. Walking though the mall, we eventually find a good restaurant that serves sushi. 'Kokoro that's aninteresting name. We are escorted to a booth and I happen to notice the conveyor belt stretching through all the tables in the restaurant, the sushi ride on the belt. (I know a place like this exists, go with it!) I grab some tuna rolls and begin eating. I look to my left and see Anne struggling with the chop sticks and I laugh a bit at her frustration. I try to help her but she is no expert.
Skillfully, I pick up the sushi and place it in my mouth.
It does not take long for us to stuff ourselves with sushi and the plates seem to stack over our heads. Soon it is time to pay. The handsome waiter, do not judge me because he is, brings us our check with a smile.
Though, his obsolete looks do not compare to Zane's handsome features and eagle-eyed irises.
Or Zane's platinum blonde hair that defies gravity and Zane's six pack of… Snapples he will get me for my birthday.
I feel my mouth water thinking about the perfect mix of lemonade and tea. If Zane ever made me mad, all he needs to get me are Snapples because I am easily bribed. I am snapped out of my fantasy of tea when I unconsciously pick up the check and look at it.
"Let me look at it." Cece says noticing my shocked face. Looking at the check she whistles. "Well Emma, this is your birthday present from me…" She says bringing out her purse.
"Oh, Cece no, you shouldn't pay for that all…" I say.
"Yeah, Emma is right. Laura and I should help pay and it could be a three-way split. It is present from all of us." Anne suggests and she, Cece and Laura end up paying. Feeling guilty yet spoiled, I leave the restaurant with the rest of the girls. The mall is not very busy today yet I still happen to bump into people. Painstakingly, we walk past an Orange Julius store walking towards the jewelry store at the corner. However I am shocked when I see a figure in white turning the corner.
"Whoa, was that Zane?" Cece asks when the white figure notices us. Quickly, he turns on his heel in the other direction.
"Hmmm, should we give chase?" Anne asks stroking an imaginary beard.
"Nah, let him be, he may be picking up Emma's birthday present." Cece nudges me in the arm. "Wonder why he was heading towards a jewelry store Emma…" She says suggestively.
"That is a good question… Do you think he was going to go inside the store?" Anne asks and I feel myself blush at the thought.
"That would be a good explanation why he ran away, or maybe he was just afraid of you Cece." Laura wittily says.
"Emma is eighteen…" Cece says even more suggestively.
"Zane wasn't going to buy a wedding ring, Cece!" Anne glares at her, knowing exactly what she was thinking of.
"The world may never know..." Cece says probably thinking about what size of wedding dress I would wear. "Emma, you have been awfully quiet. If Zane did propose, would you say yes?" Cece asks. My eyes widen at the thought of that simple question. I suddenly feel as if I am in a small box with no doors. Cece looks at me more when I take a long time to answer.
"I-I never thought of that… I never thought he would ask any time soon or anything… I guess why not but… Y-yes…?" I say shaking. I know it would not be possible. Not because who he is but because what I am. I feel a few tears stroll down my cheeks. 'Can a heart beat without embodiment…?'
"Emma, are you ok? I did not mean to ask something…" Cece asks when I feel everyone gather around me. I let out a deep breath. I knew this day would come eventually. She wanted me ready.
"I am fine," I say, 'for now…' I think to myself. Cece looks at me with concern but after a moment gives me a warm smile full of life.
"Ok then! I know how to cheer you up! SHOPPING!" the Warrior of Life says.
"That's what cheers you up, Cece." Anne says while we past the Jewelry store.
Ok, first things first… HAPPY NEW YEARS! Yup… did normally what I normally do that day… watched anime… I have been doing that a lot lately…
Moving on… guess what?
